The benefit helped and the generosity of incredibly loyal friends and readers has enabled us to publish this edition. Advertisers, we hope you see how popular The Bizz GC is with local residents – it’s their support that has kept us going, but we need you. Our readers are all potential customers of yours and we provide a quality and extremely costeffective way for you to reach them. Check the Social pages for some high-lights of the evening. That said, we hope you take a little time-out and enjoy this issue of The Bizz GC and get along to some of the great events over the next few weeks. Have FUN!

THE INVISIBLE WOMAN
Written by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, The Hour) and developed by BBC Films, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN is an adaptation of awardwinning biographer Claire Tomalin’s superbly researched account of the relationship between Nelly Ternan and Charles Dickens. The true story tells of the secret love affair between Dickens (Fiennes) and the young theatre actress Nelly Ternan (Jones). Dickens was 45 when he met Ternan, then 18, in 1857. Their relationship remained secret from the public, even after Dickens's separation from his wife the following year. Ternan travelled with the author for the rest of his life. After his death, she continued the Dickensian love of deception: she married a man 12 years her junior, having disguised her own age as 23, rather than 37; and hid her past relationship with the most famous writer of the day. As a result, Ternan’s story is one of someone who almost wasn’t there; who vanished into thin air. Her name, dates, family and experiences very nearly disappeared from the record for good.

Bold in its vision and deeply evocative, Lisa Wilson’s Lake literally floods the entire performance area to grapple with our fascination and our fear of water. Serene. Calm. Haunting. Menacing. This work reflects on the journey of a relationship, evoking its path from sparkling reflection to murky depths; from intense beauty to chilling isolation, to utter wilderness and our deepest sense of our selves within the world. Lake beautifully plays with the light and depth of water, its innate movement and total stillness, to explore the primal undercurrents in human relationships in this visually stunning work. Set on a stage in flood, Lake merges contemporary dance, video and sound to create an immersive experience with startling visual impact. Bruce McKinven’s stark and broody design and Wilson’s skilful and intimate choreography draw attention to the inherent qualities and contradictions of water. Lisa’s widely acclaimed independent production Lake delivers stark captivating theatricality in what is acknowledged as a major new Australian dance theatre work. Exhilarating and evocative, the latest creation from renowned choreographer Lisa Wilson reminds us what it is to be human. The Ultimate Vegas Show mixes world class magic and illusions with one of Las Vegas’ top jugglers and performance artists, and pays tribute to Dean Martin and other legendary greats through Australia’s best impersonators, all framed by a bevy of gorgeous Vegas Showgirls and boys and supported by a live band! Show producer and co-star Michael Boyd, the magical mind behind recent show blockbusters Cabaret De Paris and Mystique, as well as one of the star finalists on Australia’s Got Talent in 2013, said The Ultimate Vegas Show would be a fantastic, sequinstudded journey direct from the Strip in Las Vegas. “Las Vegas is famous for the Showgirls who first graced the stages of the clubs in the 1950s; they became the unofficial icon of Las Vegas and remain so to this day. There is nothing quite like seeing a Vegas Showgirl on stage, in all her glory…nothing like it until we open on April 11!” he said. “In The Ultimate Vegas Show we pay homage to the showgirl and all of her feathers, sequins, high kicks and heels; mixed with breathtaking magic and illusions and incredible juggling by Vegas sensation Romano Frediani who is flying in from Nevada for the season. Through the critically acclaimed stage talents of impersonators David Cotter and Dean Vegas we will pay tribute to some of the greatest ever Vegas performers.” The show is choreographed by Todd Patrick, one of Australia’s dance leaders who began his formidable career with Disney and then Versace, Dior, Issey Miyaki, Gucci and Chanel across Europe and Asia. As a dancer he worked internationally, one of the highlights being as the principal in The Lido in Paris. He has worked with Australian music’s best including Guy Sebastian, Vanessa Amorosi, Zoe Badwi, Hi-5, Kate Ceberano and Dannii Minogue as well as international DJ’s and pop artists including Inaya Day (New York), Barbara Tucker (New York), Peyton (London), DJ Frankie Knuckles (New York) and Tune in Tokyo (Melbourne). His performing arts school Patrick Studios Australia is one of the biggest and most successful in Australia. In keeping with the Vegas Show experience, Jupiters Hotel & Casino has announced limited VIP cabaret seating, to enjoy the show up close and personal, with exclusive pre-show table service, just as it happens in Vegas! The 90 minute show which has sold out twice in Melbourne, will open in Jupiters Theatre on April 11 and will run through the Easter holiday period. With a repertoire covering Salsa to Showgirl, Ballroom to Ballet, Rock and Roll to Rio, The Ultimate Vegas Show promises to be just that… and a little more. Page 12

The region with its cool climate [it is marginally warmer than Burgundy but cooler than Bordeaux] and well-structured soils is ideal for viticulture. This is where winemaker Steve Webber, Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine’s Winemaker of the Year 2007, and his team craft the Yarra Valley Reserve Release, Estate Grown, La Boheme, Melba and Gulf Station wines from classic varieties - notably Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The De Bortoli Estate is one of the largest in the Yarra Valley, with more than 240 hectares under vine. Recently, we have been very excited about the launch of our new look Yarra ranges. It has been a fantastic opportunity to align and leverage these remarkable wines - a regional wine sourced from villages throughout the Yarra, the heartland of the Yarra, our Estate Grown Ranges and of course bring focus to our two delicious premium wines, the Section A8 and A5. They now tell a beautiful story of region, estate and single sections within the Estate. From my perspective the branding is quite classic with a distinctive and energetic boost through the green.
Yarra is an extremely vibrant region of deliciously premium wines - we now reflect that through the way the brand looks. Some notes below from our head winemarker, Steve Webber from when they were first launched. De Bortoli Yarra Valley 'Village' Chardonnay 2011 The idea of a lesser quality label of Chardonnay is often degrading to the standard of many wines. Some of my favourite wines of the world have some declassified wine in them. Bougogne Blanc from Laflaive, Roulot or Coche are classic examples. We all wonder how much of the Meursault, Chevallier, Batard or Puligny cru vineyards are included in these inexpensive gems. As our vineyards have matured, many beautiful sites now 20 years and older are producing delightful wine and simply don't fit into our estate or single vineyard releases. We also have some lovely 'left overs' from our single vineyard and estate grown cuvee's. Some barrels are being culled for having a little too much new oak character or being a little too funky or clunky and not showing the single sites as clearly as others, hardly a crime. All of these things contribute to the texture and feel of a village wine. Vine Age : Average Age of 21 years
Entertaining, whatever the occasion. From wines under $20 to high-end international winners, we have something for every taste. Since 1928 our mantra has always been the same –“wine is to be enjoyed with good food, good friends and family”. To discover more of our wines, go to: www.debortoli.com.au

Vineyard Sourcing : 70% Dixons Creek, 20% Lusatia Park and 10% Viggers Vineyard De Bortoli Yarra Valley 'Estate' Pinot Noir 2012 The De Bortoli family estate at Dixons Creek was first planted in 1971 and since then the vineyard has expanded to be one of the finest estate plantings in the Yarra Valley. It is an undulating hilly estate with many different aspects and soil types and produces over 50 individual parcels of fruit. The 2012 'Estate' Pinot Noir is a blend of 5 small plots, all easterly facing aspects. Each vineyard is hand picked, hand sorted, fermented and matured separately before final assemblage. Cool season, calm autumn vintage. Plump, dense, dark sweet fruits, aromatic and textural. De Bortoli Section A8 Syrah 2012 The A8 Syrah vineyard was planted in 1971 and is one of the finest single vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Perched on an elevated site, it produces quite fine boned elegant red with terrific power and structure. De Bortoli Section A5 Chardonnay 2012 The A5 Chardonnay vineyard was planted in 1976 and is one of the finest single vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Positioned on quite an exposed mid slope, it produces fine minerally elegant white with charm and terrific aging potential.

Book Reviews THE BREAST IS HISTORY Bronwyn Hope Self-help memoir ‘The Breast is History’ is written by independent author, Bronwyn Hope, taking the reader on an intimate 18-month journey of what transpired in her life after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2011. Hope, a happily married mother of two boys, was diagnosed with a Stage 2 invasive lobular breast cancer shortly after her 48th birthday. A journalist by training, she was inspired by a friend to maintain an online journal about her experiences. It is on this journal that this book is based. “Initially, all I wanted was to curl up in a ball and disappear. As it turns out this was not to be the case,” Hope writes. Instead, after commencing her blog, Hope found herself compelled to continue as her daily writings became a regular installation drawing hundreds of readers from around the world. As a result, ‘The Breast is History’ is a uniquely organic story of one woman’s journey through breast cancer, comprising an immediate account of Hope’s daily experiences as she endures a series of lumpectomies, mastectomies, chemotherapy transfusions and shots of radiation. The result is a story that I found both informative, uplifting and entertaining, by turns funny, heart breaking and inspiring. Hope writes in an accessible, engaging style, often gently mocking her situation while at the same time sharing very personal stories of her life and family in easily digestible chapters. Along the way we are introduced to Hope’s medical team, her family and friends, a cast of people who are intimately portrayed as she describes their role in assisting her through her ordeal. We learn how Hope managed to cope with each part of her often brutal treatment, with exercise, her extensive support network and her sense of humour playing a huge part. Most compelling is Hope’s unique blend of autobiography and philosophy, with stories about her unique upbringing interspersed with life lessons and wise revelations that result from her circumstances. I really enjoyed reading about Hope’s life but I especially enjoyed the refreshing perspective she was able to bring to a situation that most of us would find devastating. Written with warmth and wit, Hope is able to convey a unique positivism that will help anyone dealing with any difficult situation. In the end ‘The Breast is History’ is an intimate portrayal of a breast cancer diagnosis that will leave the reader feeling a range of emotions that will resonate long after the last chapter.
It is a book full of humour – and of course, hope!
Bronwyn Hope will be speaking at the Gold Coat Women’s Health & Wellbeing Expo.

Anzac Fury
Peter Thompson Anzac Fury commemorates the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe when 8900 Anzac prisoners of war captured in Greece and Crete were released from captivity. In 2010 it was exactly 70 years since the 2nd AIF arrived in the Middle East to begin the fight against the German and Italian armies in North Africa, mainland Greece and Crete prior to the outbreak of the Pacific War. The Australian Corp HQ was moved to Greece in April 1941 and as they also had command of the NZ 2nd Division it was renamed the ANZAC Corps (there were also some British and Greek units under this command) The first engagement with the Germans was the Battle of Greece which was over in a matter of weeks with the Germans victorious. The majority of the Corp was then redeployed to Crete to reinforce the garrisons there against an anticipated air and sea invasion, again by the Germans. Anzac Fury tells in detail the riveting story of how the legendary Anzac Corps was reformed in the heat of battle during World War II to fight the seemingly unstoppable German army. Dramatically combining personal memories with combat action, it gives voice to the experiences of young Australians and New Zealanders who were sent from the victorious battlefields of Libya on a disastrous mission to Greece and Crete. And through those voices this book celebrates the Anzac spirit of sacrifice, mateship, courage and endurance. In my view this is a much better book than Pacific Fury (see previous edition’s review). It’s more emotionally engaging, I think because it deals with a specific campaign and this allows Thompson to include a lot more detail from a lot more of the participants from both sides. As a consequence the story flows better and I had a better grasp of the issues.
Fifties Up and want 2 work We were sent this Facebook page from a former colleague and thought it was a great idea. The GC has a lot of 50+ residents who want to work (thank goodness) though struggle in a market place that favours the youth for whatever reason. If you’re 50+ then you may be interested in the Facebook page and connecting with local small business owner and author, Dee McCarthy. Here’s what Dee McCarthy wrote to us: “I have had long conversations with friends and have come to the conclusion that when you hit the age of 50, the rest of the world thinks that you are not fit to work; worst of all they disregard all your knowledge and it’s like you have become an unskilled worker. It’s like no-one wants a worker with experience, as they might have to “pay” for that! The best (or worst story) was the other day when a friend told me how she had applied for a cleaning position, then got asked for her
Cleaning Certificate IV to clean a house? She could not even get a part time position to clean houses. She’s 55 and has run a big household most of her life. Her house is one of the cleanest houses I’ve even been in. This made me think, what is your ideal job? And, are you doing it or planning on changing career to do it? I’ve called the page “Fifties up and want 2 work”, and would love to see your comments and posts on your ideal position and if/how you think you can get it. Let’s discuss it! The ‘Let’s Celebrate’ event, held from Wednesday 16 April through to Monday 21 April, will see Capri on Via Roma come to life with an array
latest tenants to the centre. “We’ve been rolling out our amazing tenants at the centre in stages since first opening our doors in December – we are pleased to announce many new retailers with still a few surprises to come,” he said. “Our most recent tenancies to open include Yobrella Asian Desserts, Yummy Yum Cha, Shiro Sushi, Rice Haus, Funk Fitness 24/7, The Fish Emporium and Edgewater Dining and Lounge. “After more than two years designing, refining and constructing, we believe we’ve created a truly unique waterfront shopping and dining complex for the local community to enjoy and call their own,” he said. The Easter Bunny will be visiting the Centre on Saturday (April 19) and handing out chocolate eggs. Located on the Isle of Capri, the Capri On Via Roma shopping precinct offers more than 50 retailers including The Greener Grocer full-service supermarket open

A Sound Argument Is Campbell Newman’s Safe Night Out Strategy the answer to reducing Alcohol and drug-related violence? Recently the Queensland Government drafted an Action Plan on the heels of a February 2014 survey where 12,000 Queenslanders had their say on the issue of alcohol and drugrelated violence in Queensland’s nightspots. The “Safe Night Out Strategy” has been featured on the Premier’s website and highlights many proposed initiatives ranging from tougher penalties for offenders to increased community awareness and educations programs to curb the prolific incidences of drug and alcohol related violence, all of which are most certainly a step in the right direction. It is commendable that at this stage the Queensland government has resisted the trend of other states to reduce operating hours of licensed venues in an attempt to cure the statistics, which would be yet another nail in the coffin of many venue operators already struggling to turn a profit under the weight of excessive cost and regulatory burdens. Without doubt many of the initiatives regarding harsher consequences for violent offenders must be pursued and this subject above all has most galvanised public opinion according to the survey. Dealing with the offenders is one thing but preventing the incidences in the first place is undoubtedly the major aspiration of the community and government alike. The long term outcomes of creating education programs in schools will no doubt be positive steps toward a more harmonious society for future generations, but what do we do in the present to tackle the current issue highlighted every night on the six o’clock news? The Premier’s Office is asking for the public’s opinions on the Safe Night Out Strategy via an additional survey available on the Premier’s website. The strategy has some definite merits however I believe there are many more recommendations that could be made. ALERT plans to draft a list of recommendations and concerns regarding the government’s current draft strategy and how more support for enhancing the live music scene can be an integral part of this plan. We wish to represent the sentiment of the wider community and music industry in this process so we need your feedback. ALERT is encouraging everyone to make their opinions clear on how to curtail this crisis that will in one way or another effect us all. Do we need more live music? A ban on televised cage fighting in licensed premises? Do security personnel need more intensive training for their qualifications? We need your opinions and views on anything you feel can be a positive change toward ridding the current nightlife landscape of this violent behaviour. We feel that more positive entertainment options that promote some degree of public unity can be a great benefit and an important addition to the Government’s action plan.

One Way Street Party
Saturday 26th April – 12noon to 9pm
Presented by Helm Bar, Alison and Appel Streets, Neal Shannon Park (Rooftop of the transit centre, 10 Beach Road) The gold Coast’s funkiest cultural melting pot is turning five… and everyone’s invited! An annual showcase of the city’s emerging style-makers, One Way spotlights our hottest indie bands, visual artists, designers and street marketeers amid the laneways of Surfers Paradise. This year’s One Way is built around the theme Paradiso, and will feature the addition of a runway stage to platform fashion parades from local designers. Through Appel Street and into Neal Shannon Park, One Way plays out on a concrete canvas of sights, sounds and experiences – including licensed bars and tapas-style treats – set to a vibe of unearthed and undiscovered creativity. PARK STAGE: 6.00-7.00pm: Stonefield 5.00-5.40pm: The Vernons 4.00-4.40pm: Electrik Lemonade 3.00-3.40pm: CC the Cat 2.00-2.40pm: The High Grade 1.00-1.40pm: Jackson James Smith The Vernons : Gold Coast blues-rock four-piece The Vernons have opened for Wolfmother and last year copped widespread critical praise for their 2013 big day out debut. These new old-schoolers are likely sitting on plans to rock One Way up to 11. ACOUSTIC STREET STAGE: 1.30-2.15pm: Ella Fence 2.30-3.15pm: Jake Whittaker 3.30-4.15pm: Bree De Rome 4.30-5.15pm: Kenny Slide 5.30-6.15pm: Lyon Apprentice 6.30-7.30pm: Hussy Hicks UNDRESS GOLD COAST FASHION STAGE: DJ yahn – spinning House’n’Disco 3pm-6pm • Daywear show • Swimwear show • Evening wear show ONE WAY CREATIVE ARTS PROJECTS Across intriguing installations, one-off live art pieces and laneway studio spaces, One Way shakes and bakes the expressive output of the Gold Coast’s most active creative minds. Major exhibits include: PARK IT! This One Way standard stands up 10 street artists in front of 10 canvases and turns them loose with their weapons of choice – aerosol, chalk, ink, pencil, charcoal, you name it. Pieces take shape across the course of the festival, spellbinding crowds with a live creative spectacle. SH!FT GALLERY Opening Night, 3 April from 6.30pm This pop-up shopfront gallery platforms works from eight local artists around the 2014 One Way theme Paradiso. Whether you gaze through the shopwindow glass or see the works unfiltered, the SH!FT Gallery experience will delight and intrigue with lashings of the whimsical and surreal. Some of the artists featured include; Jake Dylan Burgess, Joy French, Tamara Armstrong and Beth Herbert. ONE WAY TEA PARTY Lewis Carroll’s non sequitur nation Wonderland comes to vivid life at One Way, with live performances throughout the day starring costumed characters from the beloved tales, including Alice herself, the Mad Hatter and the bossy-boots Red Queen. SKATE DECKSABITION 5 One Way’s Skate Descksabition pushes into its fifth year – with more local creatives turning humble skateboards blanks into works of eye-popping art. Finalist’s decks are hung in One Way’s outdoor gallery, with select entries available for purchase– the perfect addition to your home, halfpipe or handrail.

SMOKING MARTHA “A BAND TO WATCH”…
Performing at Wallapalooza 2014, Brisbane-via-the-Gold Coast vintage rockers Smoking Martha have released their highly anticipated debut EP to a round of a attention from media including being cited as a ‘Band to watch’ by Triple M’s Ugly Phil, a debut on the 4ZZZ chart at No.8 and some great reviews. The first single from the EP “Sweet As Honey” has also had airplay on FBi, 2SER & 2RRR in Sydney, 4ZZZ & Triple M in Brisbane and other rock radio around Australia and overseas, and the video clip has clocked up over 4000 views on YouTube. After a massive turnout for their Brisbane launch, the band has announced some rockin’ live gigs around South East Queensland ahead of southern tour dates being announced later in the year. METAL HEART FESTIVAL – Mainstage at 12.00pm Saturday 26 April, The Tivoli, Brisbane. With 8 Foot Sativa, Frankenbok, Tria Mera and more… MIAMI SHARK BAR – Bands from 8pm. Friday 16th May. With Stellar Green & Black Diamond SMOKING MARTHA EP + ’SWEET AS HONEY’ "There is something to be said about GOOD female fronted Rock bands: they are few and far between!! With that in mind, it just makes me so much happier when i get to review one of those aforementioned bands, Lets look further. There are a couple of elements which are crucial when it comes to this style of music, you need a solid groove, this requires the rhythm section to lock in tight with each other, feed off one another and really keep the riff driving along. Check. Secondly, your frontwoman needs a strong set of pipes. If you were to listen to this without watching the film clip, you would probably assume that the singer is in her late 30's, just kicked a cocaine habit and is drawing her vocal strength and character from a life time of doing shit he hard way (read:fun way. it would then come as an immense shock to find out that she is actually a pretty, petite chick with a passing resemblance to Gwen Stefani (with different coloured hair). Perfect example of the packaging containing much more then you bargained for! To back up such a strong voice, you require a damn good band. They need to be very well versed when it comes to accentuating vocals, yet not dropping off the map entirely. The blues inspired riffs and unison bends definitely achieve what they set out to achieve. The bass rollicks along, laying down a wonderful tight groove with a gritty tone to match the adventurous fretwork on display. Certainly one of the more impressive bass performances we've seen here at IPHYB. Not necessarily due to the technicality, but more due to the great feel displayed. The drums also come to the party with verve. The ebb and flow of intensity is exceptionally well executed. He displays a keen awareness of when to back off too, which is another strong indicator of the overall dynamic awareness par excellence. So in summary, you have a very well executed piece of straight up rock. The chorus hook is catchy, the verses build up into the focal points very well and there really isn't much to fault." Erised, I PROBABLY HATE YOUR BAND - MARCH 2014
Wallapalooza 2014 Dollarosa "Their sound is unique and sincere, and they have such an appealing onstage presence; getting so wrapped up in the music, thrashing about the stage with such an infectiously furious energy" - Not Street Press "watch these guys closely!" - Kill Your Stereo With a newly refined sound and a record to match their high onstage energy, no matter where they play or how many people they play to, you can always expect to get a show, and they’re set to explode at Wallapalooza 2014. The 2012 release, "The Never Ending Unfamiliar" is a culmination of a year and a half of writing and recording. The band had the pleasure of working with 2 Grammy award winning engineers, JR Mcneely (Paramore, Underoath, Anberlin), who mixed the release, along with Tom Coyne (Michael Jackson, Adele, Jay-Z) who mastered. The release was recorded at one of the premier studios in Australia, Loose Stones Studios and the artwork was done by the legendary Dan Mumford, who has worked on the covers for A Day to Remember – Homesick & Parkway Drive – Deep Blue. 2013 saw Dan Marsala come on and feature in the debut film clip 'Create/Destroy,' which received over 15,000 views in one week and now sits at 65,000 views. Dollarosa opened for international heavy weights Funeral for a Friend, Senses Fail and Flyleaf within a matter of months of each other. They are currently in the middle of writing for their next release.

Wrong.com updates! Parking Fine Hypocrisy In the last edition I had a bitch about the ‘moored’ boat on the street outside my home. To recap, this boat belongs to someone who doesn’t even live in the area and was parked permanently on the street for an entire month without a single fine. Most of us who actually live on the street have been stung with parking fines for being parked in front of our homes for more than 2 hours and we were annoyed at the hypocrisy. If you read the last column you know we lodged a complaint one month to the day of the initial ‘mooring’ and asked for our fines to be revoked due to setting a precedence by allowing a non-resident to take two parking spaces for 31 days without penalty. NB: Officers were issuing fines to cars during the entire month the boat was there, which has the neighbourhood convinced the boat owner was a friend of the parking officer (of course that’s neighbourhood gossip, though a reasonable explanation for the blatant unfairness). A couple days after lodging the written complaint we noticed the boat tyres getting chalked. The owner had
moved it up the street and ‘moored’ it there, foolishly not heeding my friendly advice (as explained in the last article). A couple days after that the boat must have sailed off into the sunset as it hasn’t returned. I received a formal letter on 31 March from the Supervisor City Parking advising that “after receiving the complaint, Council’s officers attended the area and addressed the issues in accordance with Council policies”. Thanks for that but we already knew! Of course there was no mention or explanation in the letter of the ‘real’ complaint which was of the hypocrisy and unfairness to the residents of the street, and there were certainly no revoked fines for us. I wonder if our complaint would stand up in court, as I’m currently fighting to retain my licence (needed to distribute this magazine) due to being suspended because I have to pay the fines for parking in front of my house!! Which leads me to the next update…
End of Bermuda Street We’ve had some great letters from readers who have experienced Bermuda Street after crossing Reedy Creek Road all the way to the M1. I did a wrong.com column about the roller coaster ride it was and the panic that sets in because you truly believe you have a flat tyre due the turbulent nature of that stretch of road. Karen Bethune wrote to us with what we think is a great suggestion, and hope one of the powers-thatbe reads this and even takes it on board. Karen says, “I drive this road every day and see so many people on the side of the road looking for a flat tyre. It is very dangerous and we just need a sign saying UNEVEN SURFACE.”
Dana Perica says, “I drove this road only twice and both times pulled over to check for a flat tyre. In over a decade I haven’t driven down this road and I never will again - it’s too nervewrecking.”
Courtroom Fashion According to an article (pictured) in The Gold Coast Bulletin on Friday 14 March, I had “courtroom regulars outraged” with my wrong. com column on Courtroom Fashion published in Issue 12. The column came from me having to sit in the courtroom for two hours (for the parking fine issues, yes the ones from outside my home) waiting to be heard as my lawyer was unable to make it on the day due to another case in Sydney. As almost every case was being adjourned my attention was drawn to the fashion sense of the lawyers in the room. I would have been drawn to it regardless of what was happening with the cases, because it wasn’t what you would ‘expect’ in a courtroom. Picnic dress, shiny silver pants, hair that needed brushing, wrinkled suits and my favourite was the black suit with the brown shoes
(cow-brown shoes) which was so noticeable because the pants were too short, showing ankles and making these (cow-brown) shoes stand out like.. well… a bull’s balls lol. I apologise to these ‘courtroom regulars’ for outraging you, my intention was not to insult you but to give a tonguein-cheek article about my experience, and frankly, it was true! Of course this is all my opinion only, as every column published in wrong.com is I was back in the courtroom earlier this week and noticed a much better dress standard – just saying lol. Although, the first ‘courtroom regular’ I saw happened to be Mr Black-suit-with-pantstoo-short-and-cow-brown-shoes! Oh how I chuckled to myself and would have loved to grab a photograph to show you! Maybe next time… ;-)
