The Goose Step instead of a pass
Good players take opportunities, great players make them. Investec supports the entrepreneurial spirit. It’s the spirit that draws in the tackle and then changes momentum with a goose step instead of the pass. The one that delivers the unexpected. It’s the same spirit that doesn’t wait for opportunities, it goes out to make them.

HAVE A GO
say my name The Investec Super Rugby competition is one of the most international with teams from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Argentina and Japan. With that comes a significant number of players with challenging names to pronounce, so Super teams this week want fans to have a go at pronouncing the players in tonight’s game between the Blues and the Rebels. “It is important to pronounce a player’s name correctly which is something we have always recognized,” said Blues CEO Michael Redman. “We’ve recognized pronouncing names can be challenging and have
recently begun providing media and commentators with phonetic spelling of our team as a means of assisting them.” New Zealand Rugby Head of Professional Rugby Chris Lendrum said: “This week we’re taking a small step in celebrating how varied and different our back stories might be. “Players from each of the clubs have been sharing with us and their fans exactly how their names should be pronounced – and they’ve also shared some of the most common mistakes when people mispronounce. “Players, and many of their families have told us, that it’s okay
to get it wrong, and they applaud people for making a real effort to get it right,” he said. Replacement lock Matiaha Martin should know – his fulltime job is teaching Te Reo Maori at Tangaroa College. “Say My Name is an awesome initiative. I know myself that people have struggled with my name. Because it has happened so many times I have just brushed it off. But there’s mana to my name and it is nice if it is pronounced properly. People want to pronounce your English name properly so the same for Maori is nice.”
So here’s the phonetic spelling of tonight’s Blues line-up – have a go to Say My Name:

back Little Blues on Eden Park The Little Blues are back – with a helping hand from foundation Blues sponsor, Barfoot & Thompson. With our special family theme to this Investec Super game, it was the ideal time to bring back a Little Blues Rugby tournament prior to the Blues kick-off against the Rebels. Four teams from the Under 9 years (35kg) will take part from Takapuna, East Coast Bays, Papatoetoe and Waitakere. “We are delighted to get behind the Barfoot & Thompson Little Blues Rugby Tournament,” said Barfoot & Thompson Managing Director, Peter Thompson.
“We’ve been behind the Blues since the start of Super Rugby and have seen young players come through the system all the way to our Super team. We want to help promote this event and I am sure we will see some of these Little Blues back on Eden Park in 10 or 15 years.” The Barfoot & Thompson Little Blues tournament starts at 3.30pm with a series of three rounds before playoffs and the final at 4.10pm ahead of the Super teams the Blues and the Rebels beginning their warm-ups.
