LEGACY

Thoughtful Planning with Far-Reaching Impact Planned gifts offer a wide array of benefits for devoted supporters who want to make the most of their resources. With wise planning, advantages abound for all who care deeply about Barnard. By including Barnard in your long-term financial arrangements you create a legacy that directly impacts the bright, hard-working young women who will be tomorrow’s leaders, and you join many others who have made the same commitment to the College’s future. Planned gifts—including contributions through wills, trusts, retirement plans, and charitable gift annuities—have been a significant source of support for the College throughout its history. Carrying on and expanding this tradition of remembrance strengthens Barnard’s financial future and sustains its hallmark academic excellence.

Many alumnae and friends choose to take advantage of the tax benefits and flexible support opportunities, matching their gifts to their financial and philanthropic goals. Planned gifts can support Barnard’s world-class faculty, outstanding students, or vibrant programs. The opportunity to provide funding where Barnard needs it most is, of course, always available. Barnard’s Planned Giving team can help you find the right area of focus for your generosity. Enhancing the College’s future strength is at the heart of The Bold Standard / A Campaign for Barnard. And that is what planned giving is all about.

The Athena Society

The Athena Society celebrates those who have included the College in their estate plans or who have made another type of planned gift to benefit Barnard. Every Athena Society member helps to ensure a bright, bold future for Barnard and inspires others to take advantage of these special—and strategic—ways of supporting the College. We invite you to become a member.

Alumna Donor Judith Daynard Boies ’59 I never knew how important Barnard was to my life until years after graduation, when I sensed myself becoming the person my professors had seemed to believe in. They inspired me then, and now I can truly value the role they played in my education and my life. I spent my career as a trusts and estates attorney advising and guiding my clients to create plans that carry out their goals—the financial ones, of course, but also the ones that address other important priorities, like having an impact on the causes they care about. When it was my turn, I decided to include Barnard in my estate plan because I believe strongly in the

College, and because doing so enables me to make a far more significant gift than I could comfortably make now. I continue to give as generously as I can each year, but I also take great pride in the role my gift will play in the future, helping to sustain the standard of excellence that a Barnard education exemplifies. Those of us who choose to include Barnard in our estate plans have an important role to play in The Bold Standard—we show others how it can be done and encourage them to join us. We send a powerful message to the world about Barnard’s strength, and this is a source of great delight and satisfaction to me today.

Create Your Legacy Your planned gift will help Barnard affirm its standing as the preeminent liberal arts college for women and reinforce the link between generations in a powerful and poignant way. Barnard’s Planned Giving team is pleased to talk to you, your family, and any of your trusted advisers to help you create a lasting impact on the College. With your gift, you have the opportunity to honor a person who has played an important role in your life—a family member, professor, or friend—and also know that you will touch the lives of future Barnard students. Many planned gifts are eligible to be counted in reunion giving totals as well as in the Campaign total. To start the conversation or request additional information, please contact Audra Lewton, Director of Gift and Estate Planning, at alewton@barnard.edu or (212) 870-2534.

Help Barnard reinforce the link between generations in a powerful and poignant way.
