BLUE & BOLD & YOU
BLUE Simply put, there is no other women’s college attached to an
&
Ivy League research university in the heart of the world’s greatest city. We revel in that uniqueness and celebrate its power. Young women select Barnard for the singular experience they know they will find here. And our alumnae carry that experience with them throughout their lifetimes.
BOLD
We never shy away from a challenge. Today, we are extending our boldness into the financial realm, presenting The Bold Standard / A Campaign for Barnard. The magnitude of this ambitious campaign will be felt in all corners of the campus. It will sustain—and propel—our fiercely intellectual community.
YOU
You—your time as a student and everything that you have done since emerging from our gates—are what we are all about. The Blue & Bold Society recognizes our most generous donors with a membership program designed to bring you closer to Barnard. We invite you to experience the power of your philanthropy at work.
From the Chair
Each one of us can testify to the powerful alchemy of a Barnard education. Like all of our students, I arrived in Morningside Heights hungry for learning and ambitious to excel. Barnard satisfied these urges, but it did far more. My classes, my professors, my friends, and every aspect of my experience here changed me profoundly. At graduation, I left prepared for the world—to meet its challenges, savor its joys, and contribute to its betterment. And, in a sense, I never left at all, as every day I feel Barnard’s presence like the wind at my back. This deep understanding of what Barnard has given me is why I have supported the College through the years, and why I am so honored to serve as chair of Barnard’s new initiative for leadership annual giving. Through The Blue & Bold Society, we aim to build an exciting new network of leadership donors. Annual giving plays a vital role in supporting Barnard’s mission and is also a priority of The Bold Standard / A Campaign for Barnard. Leadership gifts make a bold impact in two ways: they help the College meet its immediate needs, and they bring us closer to reaching the most ambitious fundraising initiative in Barnard’s history—a campaign that will help Barnard’s financial foundation match its academic excellence. With great enthusiasm, I ask you to join with me in becoming a member of The Blue & Bold Society. For what Barnard has given us, we can—and should—do no less. Daphne Philipson ’69 Chair The Blue & Bold Society

We are pleased to launch The Blue & Bold Society as part of The Bold Standard / A Campaign for Barnard, to recognize our most steadfast and generous donors. Your leadership provides essential support, drives our annual giving efforts, and sets an inspiring example of paying it forward.
Every annual gift you make contributes to the goal of The Bold Standard / A Campaign for Barnard.
“I recall the uniqueness and diversity of my own experience at Barnard— discussing Maxine Hong Kingston in an English class, studying Chinese, volunteering at a soup kitchen, and attending ballet performances at Lincoln Center. Not many institutions can offer students that range of opportunities. I give to help ensure that other young women have the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of Barnard.” Michelle Hsu ’85 Blue & Bold Society Member
“So much of what I gained at Barnard is because of the generosity of those who came before me. Now that I am in a position to give back, I do so to provide the next generation of young women—and leaders— with the fullness of what Barnard has to offer.” Sarah Andrews ’10 Blue & Bold Society Member
