ADDRESS BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen All protocols Observed. I am delighted to welcome all of you to this great event of UdiEzeagu USA 2013 Summit in Los Angeles, California, the first of its kind in the history of our noble association. In our continued quest to give back to our communities and Enugu State in general. It may seem that when we gather all we do is convention and fundraising with no clear cut achievements following the conventions . It is worthy to note that just one year after our convention in Los Angeles, we are gathered again in this same city where I was elected as the Chief Pilot of our great Community Association- Udi Ezeagu USA Today we gather again in the same city where I was elected to celebrate achievements, and to chart a path for continued progress in our Udi-Ezeagu communities and Enugu Sate in general. Towards the end of the previous administration in Enugu State, we asked questions regarding the needs of our people. In the course of brainstorming, Udi-Ezeagu USA was formed. Two years later, my immediate predecessor Chief Festus (Tallest) Okonkwo inaugurated a committee chaired by Ozo Ethelbert Odo to form our flagship project: The Udi-Ezeagu USA Free Health Education and Screening Center at 9th Mile Corner, Ngwo, Enugu State. The Center was launched on May 8th, 2013. To date, the Center has served more than 10,000 patients, and it continues to provide free screening and health education to our people. The Center is the first of its kind opened by a Diaspora community association. We are happy to announce that the Chairmen of Udi and Ezeagu LGAs are partnering with us to ensure that the Center continues to provide diagnostic services to our people in such areas as blood test, cancer, high blood pressure, hypertension, and diabetes. Thank you all for being a part of the noble cause and please donate generously today to keep this dream alive. All donations you make today are tax deductible On behalf of Udi-Ezeagu USA, I express immense gratitude to our beloved brother, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barrister Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, for standing by the LGA Chairmen Udi and Ezeagu, Barrister Chinedu Iloeje and Barrister Emeka Ozoagu respectively. With increased patronage of the Center, it is in a dire need for expansion. We need a permanent site to accommodate all the facilities and equipment needed to serve our people better. This need is a part of our discussion at this summit. Since UdiEzeagu USA is the premier organization of all associations and persons of Udi and Ezeagu descent living in the United States of America, our goal is to build bridges and leverage our resources in order to play a vital role in the socioeconomic development of our people. We hope to make positive impacts

on health, education, rural development, and economic empowerment of our brothers and sisters in Nigeria. During this summit, emphasis will be on these and on charting a path towards more rural-development project. We are particularly proud of the good work Governor Sullivan Chime has done for Enugu State, as evidenced by the ongoing physical metamorphosis of Enugu City and Nsukka Township. On security, it is also heartwarming good news that Enugu is the safest state in Nigeria, according to the Inspector General of Police. In spite of these positive developments, the challenges of rural development persist. We will continue to support the Governor, but we ask that he redeploys resources to the development of our rural communities. While we expect the near-magical transformation of Enugu urban to come up the hills of Agbaja before the end of his tenure, we cannot leave all the challenges for the state and local governments. Therefore, with this vision in mind, we the Udi-Ezeagu people resident in the United States have both a social responsibility and a pivotal role to play in the socioeconomic development of our communities by partnering with the State Government in the delivery of the dividends of democracy. As we deliberate on the above, I thank you all for coming from all over these United States and honoring us with your presence. On behalf of the good people of Udi-Ezeagu, I ask for your support and donations. We need to keep our dream project alive and well. We must partner with our government to provide healthcare services and wellbeing education. This address will be incomplete without giving kudos to UdiEzeagu, Los Angeles chapter, led by Chief Greg Amalu, for accepting the challenges of hosting a national association backto-back. Thanks to the Board of Directors, the Executives, and the Planning Committee. To my wife and children, thanks you for your wonderful support and for making sure the home front is well-looked-after when I am not there. To my mother, you have made your grandchildren very comfortable throughout the planning of this summit. God bless us and journey mercies as you return to your beloved ones. Goodwill message to Udi-Ezeagu Association USA on the occasion of the 2013 Udi-Ezeagu USA Summit in Los Angeles by
Dr. Amaka Oduh (Pharm.D) Senior Special Assistant to Enugu State Governor (International Resources & Special Projects)
It is my honor and pleasure to express my deep appreciation to the leadership and members of the UdiEzeagu Association USA for organizing this very important summit to celebrate our achievements and chart a path towards continued progress. I am truly delighted to celebrate with you all the way from Enugu State where landmark developments have opened up the State, making it easier for people to move around as they explore investment opportunities being created. His Excellency Sullivan I Chime, Governor Enugu State is supporting Investors with massive infrastructural developments, building road networks that are lighted, making access to new parts of the City easier. Our International Airport has opened new opportunities for South East Nigeria, and Enugu State govt. is building facilities to meet up with the challenges and its attendant economic impact. The State government is aggressively completing the Diagnostic Center so that our doctors will know exactly what ailments afflicts our people. The new Enugu Centenary City and Enugu State workers village by private investors is breathtaking to behold and work is progressing effectively. Our new Secretariat with its attendant requirement for excellent civil service delivery is almost near completion. The plan to re- develop our parks in Enugu metropolis and Udi tourism and resort is in progress to be completed during the life of this administration. Our mechanics will soon move to their own village currently under construction. The Oghe cashew industry and sun-flour mills has been revived. There is no village in our local govts. without electricity.

With the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar confirming Enugu as the safest State in Nigeria, Enugu State has now been transformed from a civil service City to a prime Investor's hub. The State govt. is also enacting a new Public Private Partnership law to boost confidence of Investors in the State. His Excellency has also reactivated the Enugu State Community resource Center and international resource office to provide basic services to communities in Enugu State at grass root level. At the Resource center students and job seekers can access various resources such as scholarships, job opportunities, career counseling and other services for free. We also train our unemployed graduates and artisans in various skills as well as assisting them with start up funds so they can become entrepreneurs and employers of labour. Our state of the art e- library sponsored by DFID at this center is almost completed. We also have a Braille and ICT center for communities in Enugu at the center. His Excellency has also stepped up other poverty alleviation programs like the conditional cash transfer program which provides direct funding or sustenance allowance to indigent families. The program also provides skill training for trainable adults in those families. In New York this year during MDG performance review meeting for Africa, Enugu State was mentioned as the leading State in revolutionizing healthcare in Nigeria. The Enugu State of our dreams has become a reality, thanks to good governance from present administration, we have cause to celebrate numerous achievements. His Excellency Sullivan Chime has taken the State to the point where future governments are expected to follow the blue print of development in place that will benefit and serve our people. I also celebrate with Udi-Ezeagu Association USA, the success and continued sustenance of our flagship program, the Udi-Ezeagu USA Health Education & Screening Center @ 9th Mile corner Enugu. I thank all of you who volunteer your time and resources to help our communities. I am even more thrilled that the proceeds of this summit will go towards further supporting this wonderful project. As our goodwill ambassadors your outstanding support adds value to overall economic health of the State, which will be less without Udi-Ezeagu Health Education & Screening

Center. I also applaud the current leadership of UdiEzeagu USA renewed partnership with our Local Government Chairmen from Udi and Ezeagu to support this project. Very few organizations can claim to have such an impressive spectrum of personalities serving their cause. You have not only excelled in your own fields in USA, but shared your time and passion to better the lives of our people in health and greater opportunities. As an organization, you have given hope to so many residents of Enugu State. Udi-Ezeagu has the best crop of professionals of Enugu people in USA and our United Energy (UE-USA) is the powerful force we have for greater goods.Please do not allow this powerful force to dissipate or disintegrate," Umunna bu Ike" Our expectations are high on this summit and its outcome will add substantial value to Enugu State development reform initiatives in various sectors. I am convinced that the array of resource persons put together to organize this Summit with their repository of knowledge and experiences will do justice to the theme of this Summit to the satisfaction of all. At the State and Local Government level, we look forward to a blue print of initiatives to chart a path towards continued progress in Enugu State. As you deliberate on the needs of our people in areas of health, education and economic development during the summit, I invite Udi-Ezeagu USA to step up the Ladder, support the State govt. in its bid to provide quality education for our people. Most of our community colleges need equipped libraries, vocational college extension,basic school supplies and support for handicapped schools. Enugu State community resource center is willing to partner with the association to solicit funding from international donor agencies or prominent individuals in our community to build lasting support for these schools, the bedrock of our future developments. Enugu State is one of the few States with the lowest Federal allocation in Nigeria. Our State government has been managing its resources prudently to execute a lot of projects. His Excellency ensures the State operates within its allocated resources, while aggressively improving our internally generated revenue and resisting borrowing for any project in the State.

Our State development is work in progress with its roadmap clearly defined for years to come. Our Governor is constructing a well balanced more inclusive State where no one is left out. In the spirit of what UdiEzeagu personalities are known for, it makes me proud to note that he is our own brother and a true Hero for ALL. It is the same selfless spirit that prompted Udi-Ezeagu USA to site its FREE flagship program at 9th Mile where people from East,North,West and South of Nigeria live and converge for commercial activities can all benefit from the project, and not in our respected villages in Udi or Ezeagu. It is also not surprising Udi-Ezeagu USA took the giant step to organize this historic timely and relevant summit, for Enugu State. I recall with pride the indomitable courage of our people and rush of collective indignation expressed when our unity as Udi-Ezeagu people in USA was threatened. I want to thank everyone who worked hard and made sacrifices to ensure the ship of Udi-Ezeagu USA stayed intact. This was a heroic display of will and unbowed strength in Unity. We must learn to continue to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools ( Martin Luther King jr.) for in union there is strength. We also cannot relent at this stage and I am confident that we can sustain the Enugu of our dream if we persevere to support the "Enugu State roadmap to development . As a people Udi Ezeagu has shown time and time again that its commitment to total State building is unwavering no matter the odds. Finally I end with a quote from Our Governor..."our people cannot hold jobs if they are sick, our children cannot study if they are not healthy, join me as I make a commitment to chart a new and irreversible course for an effective healthcare delivery system in the State that is accessible, acceptable, affordable and sustainable...Sullivan I Chime Ladies and gentlemen, let us join hands with our Governor and Udi-Ezeagu people to chart an irreversible path for sustained development in Enugu State.
