BRANDYWINE CONSERVANCY & MUSEUM OF ART

Dear Friends, Since the founding of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art we have benefited from a profound culture of philanthropy that has enabled our organization to grow and flourish. This support has created incredible opportunities for the Brandywine to fulfill its mission and has sustained some important projects and initiatives that have been decades in the making. A highlight of the past fiscal year was the Conservancy’s acquisition of Birmingham Hill, a key piece of land that was at the epicenter of the Battle of Brandywine. This major achievement capped our 25-year effort to preserve and protect over 500 contiguous acres where the fiercest fighting occurred during this pivotal American Revolutionary War battle. The significance of conserving this land cannot be overstated. We were able to purchase the final 13-acre parcel thanks to new funders and the decades-long support of donors who were committed to our long-term vision and mission. With this historic site now protected forever, we are hard at work on a master plan to make this preserve publicly accessible as a keystone in our ongoing efforts to honor the legacy of the Battle of Brandywine. We’ve also begun laying the groundwork for long-term strategies that will enable us to meet our ambitious goals. In order to create more sustainable sources of revenue for new projects and art exhibitions, we unveiled two fundraising efforts this past fiscal year. One of these initiatives was the launch of an Exhibitions Fund, which will ensure that the Museum’s dynamic exhibitions program remains fully funded. The Fund will be drawn down annually and used to support each fiscal year’s full slate of exhibitions, allowing us to continue presenting the world-class projects our community has come to expect. Ten donors gave generously to provide a great start to this new endeavor. We also began a campaign for our Laurels Preserve to ensure this beautiful place has the appropriate funding needed not only for its day-to-day maintenance, but also for critical capital improvement projects. As the stewards of such a unique and beloved landscape, we understand the delicate balance between preservation and recreation. With the creation of the Laurels Campaign, we will be able to support much-needed upgrades at the Preserve and implement long-term goals that will protect and sustain this magnificent landscape now and in the future. We are grateful to the 33 donors who gave in the past fiscal year and look forward to providing an increased level of environmental stewardship thanks to this campaign.

None of these projects would be possible without the unwavering generosity of dedicated donors, members and friends like you. Your contributions to special projects—like the Exhibitions Fund and the Laurels Campaign—and equally importantly, your unrestricted gifts to Brandywine’s essential general operations—make our work possible. Our future remains bright with you by our side. Best regards,

BRANDYWINE CONSERVANCY & MUSEUM OF ART

Brandywine Heritage Society Founded in 1999, the Brandywine Heritage Society is dedicated to those very special individuals who have provided for the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art in their estate plans or planned a future gift. Such gifts include bequests, charitable gift annuities, life income and lead trusts, gifts of life insurance and retirement accounts, and donations of a personal residence or farm with the retention of a life estate. Through their foresight and generosity, Brandywine Heritage Society members help ensure that vital works of art and irreplaceable land, water and historic resources will be preserved and shared with generations to come.
