PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

dinner, Jeff will be putting together a curated tasting menu featuring exceptional meals and premium pairing wines from Australia. I am pleased to note that many of our existing Members have introduced their friends to the Club. You are the best ambassadors for your Club and there is no better reason to use the Club than to relax with your friends. As a thank you, Members whose friends sign up for Club membership from now till end of May will receive a catering package worth up to $550 for each successful referral. This month, there are magazine articles contributed by Members of the Tennis, Squash and Football sections. If you have an interest and would like to understand more, or like to join the various sports sections, do not hesitate to contact the respective convenors or the sports team and they will be happy to assist. You can find the contact details in the magazine. Finally, I want to thank the staff of the British Club for their amazing support in these difficult times and of course thanks to you, our loyal Members for supporting the Club and helping to make it a safe haven for us all. STEPHEN WALKER President Dear Members, I am sure you will agree that these are unprecedented times in Singapore and the world, given the situation with COVID-19 and the Club has been working hard to keep its Members and staff as safe as possible. Following the heightened risk posture of DORSCON Orange, the Club is following the various advices by the Ministry of Health (MOH), including temperature screening and online registration for all guests when they come to the Club in support of incident tracing. The online registration can be completed via the iPads provided at the Reception and Scores Sports Bar & Restaurant; or through scanning of the QR code on notices around the Club. Due to the closure of the Malaysian borders and a reduction in our workforce, we have taken the very unusual steps of closing two of our smaller outlets in order to provide the best overall service for our customers. Travel restrictions in Singapore have also meant that unfortunately, a number of our events have been cancelled across March and April and I would urge all Members to keep a close eye for the EDMs and announcements over the coming weeks. To keep our community safe, please be reminded that Members should not come to the Club if they have a fever or are otherwise unwell. As a precautionary measure, we strongly encourage Club Members and their guests who have recently travelled within the last 14 days to refrain from coming to the Club. The Lunar New Year has just passed, and we are already into the second quarter of the year. I hope the year is going well for all and the New Year’s resolutions have been attained or are at least in progress. March was a particularly busy month around the Club as we celebrated International Women’s Day, Shrove Tuesday, St. Patrick’s Day and Mothering Sunday. These events were well received, and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves despite the situation. This month, expect nothing less as we bring you Easter Sunday. Apart from that, we also have our regular Wine & Gourmet dinner. Clinton Ang, third generation owner of the oldest wine and spirits merchant in South East Asia will grace the event on Friday, 25 April. Our chefs will be putting together a special pairing menu, and Clinton will be showcasing various varietals of the Siglo wines. In May, we welcome Jeff Baker to the British Club. Jeff is a Michelinstarred Chef who has cooked for the Queen and worked alongside some of the world’s top chefs. He was recognized for his culinary talents in 1995 with a Michelin Star, and he held on to this prestigious award for over a decade. Jeff will be our Chef in Residence at the Mountbatten Bar and Grill here in the British Club for four nights. For our ever-popular Wine & Gourmet
