have really enjoyed my motorcycles this spring. I have ridden some of them and worked on some of the others. Somehow working on motorcycles seems to be closely aligned with riding them. Both are more enjoyable when the weather is nice. I have had several little projects that I was having trouble getting started (or finished) but lately, with the nicer weather, I seem to have more vision and energy. There is just something about blue sky and sunshine that is good for your soul. Add wind and you are definitely on the right road. Reality demands that I work if just to pay for beer, parts, and gas, but this issue has extracted the proverbial pound of flesh from all of us. We delivered the May issue on May 2-4 and we will begin delivery again on May 31st. Take out time for Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Week, other events, and Memorial Day and we are faced with a short, tight production schedule. I know that we were not the only ones feeling it because many of our advertisers and contributors were in the same boat and were slow getting their stuff to us. In spite of it all, we are proud to present you with this issue (#215) of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. It represents the best collection of events, advertisers, and stories under one cover and if you are reading this, I would consider you fortunate. 11th Annual Hogs & Rags Rally By Wendy Rogers The 11th Annual Hogs & Rags Rally ride went from Fayetteville, NC to Myrtle Beach South Carolina’s Barefoot Landing to Wild Wing Café on April 23rd this year, which was escorted the whole way by Cumberland County, Bladen County, Columbus County, and Horry County law enforcement, whom did an outstanding fabulous job! This event is part of the Dogwood Festival of Fayetteville and has been growing every year to become the biggest motorcycle day rally in the Carolinas. The Hogs & Rags Rally is the premier community charity event that combines convertibles and motorcycles, great food, good causes, and a good time. All makes and models of bikes, trikes, street rods, and muscle cars are welcome. Even though the name of the event is Hogs and Rags and Hogs usually represents Harley-Davidsons and rags usually means convertibles (that is how the event started) we invited all motorcycles and cars to participate. There were door prizes and raffle tickets for a chance to win $2500 cash and raffle for some guns. This is a wonderful event, which supports wonderful causes and we want everyone to know how much we appreciated all the support from all our sponsors and from all of our participates. Without you all, there would be no event like this. We had about 38 cars and 270 motorcycles. WOW what a great turnout! Also, again Fayetteville Mayor Nat Robertson and his wife Kim, who are also motorcycle enthusiasts, led this year’s event. They were leading us along with the Sheriff Deputy’s escort, all the way to Myrtle Beach, SC. Knowing that the ride will benefit others just makes the day that much better. This year’s Bulldog Heroes event was held on May 7th, at Cox’s H-D in Asheboro, NC. By: Caroline For the past 19 years, the first Sunday in May is reserved to honor the memory of our fellow motorcycle friends at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. Their names are engraved along all the others who have passed on. Typically, the service is held outside, but this year, a heavy rain pushed everything indoors. The WinstonSalem HOG Chapter was not a bit discouraged and was able to set everything up and move it along without hesitation. The program starts at 10 am with breakfast, gospel music, and worship/praise service. Since the ride was cancelled due to the weather, folks just continued to fellowship, eat, and listen to some great music. By noon, a barbeque lunch was served and at 1 pm the Dedication began. This year, Mark Leonard was recognized and honored with

a plaque for all the work he has put into the event and the Freedom Memorial Wall over the years. He also took the opportunity to give some history behind the Freedom Memorial Wall. It began in 1996 by Curly and Laura Williams at the dealership off of Old Greensboro Road. It has continued to this day at its current location with Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. The Freedom Memorial Wall is the first and only memorial of its kind in the nation. One does not have to belong to any organization to be included. The names are all of folks who either rode motorcycles as a rider, passenger, or who supported those who did. Ray Perry, General Manager of Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, read the proclamation that was declared by the Mayor of Winston-Salem, dedicating the first Sunday in May as Freedom Memorial Wall Sunday. After that, the names were read starting with those from 1996 and ending with the names added the past year. Fortunately, the rain stopped and the balloon release went on as planned. If you have never visited Smokin’ Harley-Davidson and seen the area for the Freedom Memorial Wall, I encourage you to do so. They are open 7 days a week at 3441 Myer Lee Drive in Winston-Salem, NC.

Thunder In The Smokies Motorcycle Rally By:WildThing If any of you reading this report have not been to the Thunder In The Smokies Motorcycle Rally, you have missed the best rally Maggie Valley has ever seen. This spring was the 14th Annual Spring Rally and I have been to them all! Check out the photos at www.FullThrottleMagazine. com, the Festival Grounds in Maggie is a spectacular place – a little piece of heaven surrounded by mountains. The town of Maggie Valley is biker friendly, with lots of choices for food and accommodations. The plus factor is the great mountain riding that surrounds Maggie. On Saturday of the rally, there is a tour ride leaving the Festival Grounds that goes up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, just a few miles out of town. Chris and Lori, the promoters, have all the bases covered, even down to the ATM at the gate. They had thirty-five vendors ranging from leather, jewelry, and sunglasses, to BBQ and pinstriping. They had a good line-up of bands, all sponsored by Smoky Mountain Steel Horses of Waynesville, NC. Friday evening after Grand Theft Audio and Josh Phillips bands finished a new feature was on the agenda – the Swimsuit USA International Competition. Folks from the crowd of attendees were asked to judge the five lovely young women that had entered the competition. The ladies were first introduced in evening attire then came back on stage in swimsuits. Each was asked about themselves then the judges rendered their opinion. Anna was named Miss Thunder In The Smokies and would have the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic to compete in the final international competition. Saturday morning, the ride in bike show sponsored by Tom McGrath Motorcycle Law Group was on the agenda. It was free to enter and had $1000 in cash prizes to the top three peoples’ choice bikes. There were 45 bikes in the show, all lined up in front of the stage. As visitors entered the gate that morning they were given a red ticket and voted on their favorite bike by placing the ticket in the upturned helmet at

the front wheel of each show bike. Third place, with a prize of $200 was awarded to Tony and Susan of Lexington KY for their POW/MIA themed bike. Second place and $300 went to a Confederate themed bike owned by Tony and Cheryl of Lebanon TN. First place was a beautiful 2015 Indian decked out with hand crafted inlaid wood saddle bags and foot boards, tan leather seat with matching leather grips and lever covers, all complementing the pale green and white paint. Glen and Debbie from Augusta GA were justifiably proud of their ride and were excited to receive the $500 grand prize. The bike games were next on the schedule and by that time, it had warmed up to about 70º with a blue sky and puffy clouds kissing the mountaintops. There was a good crowd of participants and spectators to cheer them on. They played the slow race, wienie bite, hopped down the field on large purple balls in a tag team race, did the T.P. and plunger race, and the ever favorite can in the haystack version of musical chairs. Way too much fun! Hometown Hawgs from Conover, NC sponsored the cash prizes for the bike games. Everyone had a great time. The weather remained clear, although cool, for the evening’s line-up of music. First up was Jody Medford and the Boys, a rising country band with their song, “Moonshine”. Next up at 7:30 was DB Bryant Band a crowd favorite, belting out all your Southern Rock favorites. The country, Americana southern rock stars from Charlotte NC, Preacher Stone hit the stage at 9:30 and wowed the crowd for the next hour and a half. Considering the chill of the evening air, a decent group rode back to the festival grounds after dinner to enjoy the variety of performers. Sunday morning, the event capped off with a free pancake breakfast and 10 am church service and the vendors were open for that last must have. All in all, it was a great weekend with lovely weather and I am looking forward to September 9-11, 2016 for the fall version of Thunder in the Smokies. See you there!

Beginning Of Summer Bash 2016 By: Uwharrie Charlie This year’s Beginning Of Summer Bash at Stars And Bars Tavern (723 Klumac Road, Salisbury, NC) went off without a hitch as usual! I love going to these because they are so much fun with great bands and a lot of nice people and usually there is food! This one started out Friday night with the 9-Day Trip band entertaining folks into the night. Then on Saturday Rock-U Charlotte opened the afternoon with some great tunes and a great bunch of guys and girls playing and singing their hearts out. Y’all really gotta get out here sometime and see this band. It’s like no other band around. The Brent Brown & Company Band took over Saturday night and rocked the house down! They seem to be a favorite in this area as they have played many venues. And believe it or not, Rock-U-Charlotte was slated to return Sunday to rock the crowd! That’s a busy group right there! All in all it was another great way to say hello to summer! Some folks were camping out there for the weekend. usually electricity, so camping there is a great way to spend a weekend! There was a very special person there that I had no recollection of ever speaking to in the past. It’s always a pleasure getting out there to say hi to the many people I know and always an opportunity to meet new “special” people. I’m just itching to see what happens with that. Home Town Hawgs & Team Jonas In JDRF One Walk Story and photo by Alan Dockery The last Saturday in April was almost wet, just not enough to keep folks from riding. Some of us gathered at Home Town Hawgs at 910 Conover Boulevard in Conover, NC, for the Team Jonas Johnson Ride supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk in Hickory. The One Walk is a major annual fundraiser for the JDRF. Their goal is eliminating Type 1 Diabetes where the body does not produce insulin. The sprinkling rain shortened our ride to Lenoir-Rhyne University where the JDRF One Walk was underway. After riding back to the shop, folks were treated to freshly grilled hotdogs and fixings. The staff at Home Town Hawgs, plus friends and riders, helped Team Jonas raise about $2,000 this year. Next year’s plans include motorcycles leading the start of the walk.

By: Uwharrie Charlie Welcome to May Fest 2016 at the Carriage Room located at 2141 Statesville Boulevard in Salisbury, NC at the corner of Highway 70 and Jake Alexander Boulevard. There was quite the crowd attending this event and a really great performance by the Mt. Woodland Band! The chicken dinner plates were awesome! That was for a separate benefit but worked out well with the band and food being outside concert style! There’s a lot of buzz going on about this place lately. It is the oldest operating bar in Salisbury and a great place to be no matter what the occasion and it has a warm cozy atmosphere. Valerie and her staff of fine employees do a great job of keeping the customers satisfied. The full bar menu of food or beverages, not to mention the events and charities are plentiful there with a great group of folk to keep most anyone entertained! Just being here for May Fest is a party in the parking lot and inside! The roomy pool table area is a good way to cool off in the summer heat and chill your belly with a cold one. Here we are again, meeting long time friends and new ones! It seems I’ve bumped into a special friend here, too.

Wow, is this getting strange or what? Anyway just like everybody else I’m having a blast! There’s no shortage of fun and funny here! With this mixture of bikes and cages comes variety and that’s what makes this a special place! If you haven’t been here then it’s time to get here! We’ll wait on ya, get it? 8th Annual CVMA Benefit Ride

By: John Vidas On May 7th a thousand riders got together at Crossroads HD with one thing in mind, giving back! This was the 8th Annual Combat Vets Motorcycle Association 15-5 Benefit Ride where every penny raised goes directly to help change the life of a Veteran in need. CVMA15-5 and Mike Lipford at Crossroads HD hosted the event where at their count they had 1,104 motorcycles show up to ride the event. A special thanks to the Iredell Sheriff’s Department along with North Wilkesboro Police Department who made the 70-mile ride an outstanding experience for everyone. A 70-mile ride where your feet do not touch the ground, that’s a great ride. The ride finished up at Iron Thunder in Mooresville and was highlighted by guest speaker and true American hero Dale Wilson, a Marine triple amputee Vietnam

Veteran. Followed by a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps and remembering those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. While everyone enjoyed the ride people also left with a good feeling knowing that they were able to “pay it back” to a Veteran in need. And say a simple but meaningful “Thank you for your service” to the active and retired military. At the end of the day $30,000 was raised to help Veterans in need. In addition to the money raised on the 7th, Crossroads HD donated a 2015 Harley-Davidson to CVMA 15-5. The funds that we raise will go directly to a Veteran in need.

Alamance County C.B.A. Motorcycle Safety And Awareness Ride

Dave “Bikerdave” Blum, Alamance County C.B.A. President Saturday, May 7th, 2016 was the latest installment of the Alamance County CBA Chapter’s rides, the Annual Motorcycle Safety And Awareness Ride. We have been doing this May ride for many years now, since May is National Motorcycle Awareness Month. Each year, we are given an official proclamation to declare May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in Alamance County. We thank the Alamance County Commissioner’s for their care for the motorcycle community and for declaring the month of May as Motorcycle Safety Month. We also appreciate the Burlington, Elon, Graham, Mebane, and Haw River Police Departments for putting our Look Twice – Save A Life signs up in their yards to help us spread motorcycle safety and awareness. We had a great day for the ride; the weather was warm and sunny all day. We met at Down Home Harley-Davidson in Burlington NC. The crew at Down Home is always great to us and, as always, Butch Armstrong had fresh donuts and hot coffee waiting for us to enjoy while we registered the riders who were joining us. We had a special guest come and speak to the group before we got ready to roll out. Officer Elliott from the Burlington Police Department, who is an instructor for the N.C. Bike Safe motorcycle skills class, was there to talk to our riders about the class and how to get signed up for it. I have taken this class myself and it’s a great addition to any rider’s bag of tricks to help them ride safer on the open roads these days. I gathered up all our riders for our mandatory pre ride safety meeting and after that was done we had a prayer for the ride done by our own Gene “Bones” Boswell. Puryear, who always lays out some of the most scenic routes, led out the group of 15 bikes. The ride took us through Snow Camp and into Siler City, across Staley and into Liberty. We stopped for lunch and after we all had a full belly, we rolled on down the road to more scenic views as we rode through Julian following Hwy 61 over to Gibsonville and then on out to Hwy 87. The pack of bikes finally pulled into the Old Ski Lodge for a cold drink and some good times. The riders all seemed to have had a good time and really enjoyed the ride and the day of brotherhood / sisterhood in the wind. I feel like this ride is a good way to get out into the public eye and make sure that all of the folks on the road see us when we ride. This ride is always a free ride and open to all riders and it seems to be one of the favorite events among riders that we do here in Alamance County. I would like to thank all the riders who joined us and I would also like to thank Down Home Harley-Davidson, and the Old Ski Lodge for all their hospitality. I will end this with “If you missed the ride this year you missed a good one, so make sure you join us next year”. This is a ride to try and help spread awareness to keep us safer on the roads and the more bikes we have the more they see us. Ride safe and ride long.

2nd Annual Gathering Of The Tribes By: Wally Wersching I had been planning to go to the Gathering Of The Tribes at Spartanburg Harley-Davidson on Saturday, April 16th, for quite some time. All riders were invited to this get together of many different motorcycle ministries. There were blessings of the bikes, prayers for the souls, live bands with mostly original music, free food, vendors, and a blood drive. I awoke at about 6:30AM, and looked out the window to see frost on the roofs in the neighborhood. I checked the temperature, and it was around 35º. I waited until 9:30AM before I left. I bundled up, and rode “Miss Vickie”. Spartanburg HarleyDavidson is only about a half hour from home. I knew that I wouldn’t get too cold in a half hour even though it was still in the low 40’s. I followed a small group of bikers as we all rode into the dealership. I was instructed to park on the side of the building. I asked to make sure that I wouldn’t

get blocked in and was assured that wouldn’t happen. I wasn’t going to stay very long, and really hate to be blocked in. I’m a little paranoid about that. I had been to the Gathering Of The Tribes last year, and was impressed by the number of different ministries present. I knew some of my friends from the local biker ministries would be there. When I walked around to the front of the building, I saw a long line of tents, each of which represented a specific biker ministry or vendor. The ministries were telling anyone who walked up about the benefits of their ministry, and their church. It was very crowded. I stopped at a few tents to talk with some friends, and meet some of the vendors. In one tent, they were giving away bright yellow signs that said, “Look Twice - Save A Life – Motorcycles Are Everywhere”. I have one in my front lawn. It’s really eye-catching. Hopefully it will save a motorcyclist’s life. Another tent had all kinds of stickers and patches. There probably was every patch or sticker ever made on their table. There must have been thousands! Right before I was ready to leave, a few friends rode in from the local CMA, including Mongoose. I hadn’t seen him since the CMA Day Of Prayer in early March. I gave him an April copy of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine because the article about the Day of Prayer was in it. He really enjoyed seeing it, and he found himself in the picture, too. I left around 11:15 because I had other places to go, so I backtracked and made it home about noon. It was a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning. I’ll do it again next year.

Nam Knights Tarheel Chapter Spring Party By: Trisha Beasley The Nam Knights Motorcycle Club, Tarheel Chapter, celebrated their annual Spring Party on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The club was full of Nam Knights members, supporters, and other MC’s. Everyone was there to show their support for the chapter and, as always, to take time to honor, respect, and support our veterans of war. The Spring Party hosted several raffles, door prizes, and an evening packed with celebration and brotherhood. There were so many winners! There were too many prizes to name but they ranged from cash to Smart TV, to gift certificates, and, of course, motorcycle gear. The entire crowd was winners at this party; it was loaded and locked on fun. The clubhouse was filled with good vibrations and camaraderie. The Nam Knights President hosted the raffle and door prizes portion of the party. With mic in hand, the laughter and raffles began. The party all standing in wait for either the next drawing or the next joke! The Nam Knights had a story, a quote or joke for each drawing. Everyone seemed to be laughing while another might have dropped their head discussing a facial gift certificate; certainly one of the lady’s favorites! There was a vast array of items for everyone. Yet, the most memorable part of the event was the harmony and unity of the group. So, as you can imagine, it was such a phenomenal day! The air was filled with honor, respect, pride, and celebration, and all perfectly paired with lots of laughter and a lot of prizes. The Spring Party was very symbolic of the Nam Knights mission and vision: The ideals of brotherhood, community, reflection, caring, and generosity as well as their hard work and efforts all in honor of veterans from all service areas. Their motto is: good deeds, good times, and to help whenever they can. The evening was a complete success! Spring was definitely welcomed as was everyone at this open house event. The Nam Knights Motorcycle Club was authorized on October 2, 2007 around Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They are comprised of both active and non-active veterans as well as brothers in the law enforcement community. The founders started The Nam Knights Motorcycle Club the summer of 1989. It was the formation and beginning of the Nam Knights

in New Jersey by now retired, Undersheriff of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Jack Quigley. Jack served as Platoon Sergeant with the 11th Motor Transport Battalion, First Marie Division. And today, the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club has grown to 58 chapters within twelve states as well as two Canadian provinces. There are hundreds of members ranging from veterans of all eras, all branches of service, law enforcement and supporters. The Nam Knights Tarheel Chapter works diligently to compensate for the lack of funding for veterans. One of the prestigious efforts, “Veteran Bingo”, is held every second Saturday of the month. Each dollar that is raised goes towards veteran’s housing needs; expenses that would otherwise have to be billed to veterans or their family members. The goodwill of the Nam Knights helps to offset some of these costs. They also devote themselves to many worthy causes that support community, law enforcement, and veterans. Their annual “Officer Down Run” and Emergency Service Luncheons are held during September each year. They also ride to support the “Shop With The Sheriff’s” ride each year as well as their annual trek to “Rolling Thunder” in Washington DC every May. This ride makes its way to the Vietnam Memorial and National Law Enforcement Memorial; where the club pays their respects to honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. May “We the People” never forget! “The Nam Knights Motorcycle Club” continues to grow and thrive due to the dedication, honor, and hard work of their extraordinary members, their families, and the benevolence of their supporters. It was an honor to spend this day in celebration with the Nam Knights, Tar Heel Chapter. We wish them many more “Spring Parties.” So now that you know a little more about the Nam Knights, when you see a Nam Knights post, ride, or party, come on out and show your support for our veterans. CMA Spring Diaper Run For The Foothills Pregnancy Care Center By: Bill Gallaway Sunday, April 24, 2016 was the date for the Spring Diaper Run. We were on a mission for GOD. There were 23 bikes and 3 cages with around 37 people participating in the run. Riders came from Clemson, Seneca, Central, Greenville, Easley, and Pickens, SC and there were members of the Sons Of Thunder and Freedom Biker Church Foothills in attendance. We had folks ranging from 8 to 70 years of age on the ride. The ride began at 3 pm on a beautiful sunny Sunday at the Crosspoint Church at 1016 Tiger Blvd., Hwy 123 in Clemson. The temperature was in the 80’s, perfect for a 55-mile ride thru the upstate of South Carolina. Upon arrival at the Pregnancy Care Center located in Seneca, SC, two representatives met the riders as they arrived with saddlebags loaded with diapers and cash donations that go towards purchasing the diaper sizes they need and may not have. They currently give out between 30 and 45 packages of diapers and wipes to clients each week. Foothills Pregnancy Center serves the surrounding counties, of Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee with free pregnancy testing, free limited ultrasound, and abstinence training as well as post abortion counseling to anyone who comes to the center seeking help, regardless of financial ability. This will be the last ride to this location as we were told that the facility is expanding and moving to a larger facility in downtown Seneca with over 5,000 sq. feet of space. Do you like to paint? NC Concerned Bikers Association Lobby Day 2016

By: Rick Nail On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, members of the NC Concerned Bikers Association gathered in Raleigh for their annual Lobby Day. Even though this year is a ‘short’ session, we need to keep our contacts with the Legislators fresh and real. We met at the top floor of the downtown Holiday Inn to gather information and instructions. Some of us had done this in the past and some were newcomers. We were all instructed on what to do and what not to do. We were instructed about the issues we are concerned about during this session and how to

relay these issues to our Legislators. We are concerned about ‘distracted’ driving; not just texting, but other types of distracted driving are causing dangers for us all on the road. We would like to see some stronger penalties if there are injuries caused by distracted driving. We are also concerned about motorcycles having access to public places, expressly public parking decks, which our tax dollars helped to build, but motorcycles are prohibited from some of these facilities. We were also armed with a copy of our North Carolina “May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month Proclamation”, which was issued for us and signed by our Governor. As an extra bonus, some of us stayed for the House Session that afternoon. We sat in the gallery and observed the proceedings. There were many acknowledgements made from the floor. One of the acknowledgements specifically named a few of our CBA members, but the entire CBA group was acknowledged and we all stood for a round of applause. Over all, it was a good day in Raleigh. It was a day to meet with our respective Legislators and let them know that we are here, that we do vote, and that we care about our state and our issues. You, as a citizen, do not have to wait for a CBA Lobby Day to visit Raleigh and your Legislators, but you do need to prepare yourself before you go. Know what you want and how to go about asking for it. If you need help, go to www.cbaabatenc.org and make contact with Charlie Boone (fbird54@ bellsouth.net), our State Legislative Coordinator, or contact your local CBA Chapter to talk with their Legislative Coordinator. If you have never visited Raleigh to see government in action, you should plan a day to go and see and learn. Our system is not a perfect system, but it is our system and we must be a part of it all. PGR Mission For Scott Craig By: Wally Wersching Melvin Scott Craig was a Sargent in the US Marines. He was a great family man; married to his wife Gail for 29 years, had three children – two sons, and a daughter, and thirteen grandchildren. He was only 55 years old when he passed away. I was told that he died as a result of being paralyzed from getting a flu shot. I was invited to be part of the Patriot Guard Honor Guard for him on May 2nd. I couldn’t make it to the Clay-Barnett Funeral Home in Kings Mountain but I was able to be at the gravesite at the Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. I arrived at about 11AM, and was able to talk with the man from Hairfield Vault Company who was setting up the site for the service. He really took pride in his job. He wanted everything to be perfect for the service. Later the Honor Guard from Rutherford County came in uniform with their rifles. They would fire them three times for the traditional military burial. While we waited, the honor guard sat under the tent until the hearse arrived. It was hot in the sun. It was a little after noon when we heard the roar of motorcycles. There were seven motorcycles leading the hearse into the cemetery. Some had their large flags flying. It’s always an inspiring site. We got our flags, and set up a flag line near the tent. When the casket was removed from the hearse, we all saluted. We were all close enough to hear the service. Then, the honor guard fired the three volleys, and played

Taps on a trumpet. Whenever I hear Taps, I get a little emotional. The finality of the service sets in - that there is the body of a good man inside the casket – a Marine. The next order of business was the ceremony of folding the flag, then presenting it to a relative along with the three spent shells from the volley. This is where the service was unusual. They went through the ceremony of folding six flags (one at a time), and then presented each one to a different family member. This was the first time I had ever been to a military service where there was more than one flag over the coffin. After the service was over, we were directed to turn in our flags. We chatted for a minute or two before heading home. It was an honor to be there for Scott.

3rd Annual Aidan’s Ride - North Carolina By: Kathy Johnson It was a 2-day event for Aidan’s posse this year. On Friday 100 people converged on the Southland Ball Room in Raleigh for a kick off party. It was over the top talent of Automag and Tuesday’s Gone to get you ready for the Saturday event. I am sure quite a few had little or no sleep at all, but 110 bikes rolled in to Rommel H-D in Durham the next morning. I can say I have seen a consistency in the riders for this event in the last three years. The importance of this ride is known to most, but if you are not aware, it is for Adrenoleukdystrophy (ALD), a disease that destroys the protective sheath that surrounds the brain’s neurons. Unless newborn screening is in place, it goes undetected until it is too late, primarily in young boys. By the time it is detected and diagnosed it progresses so rapidly that the outcome is loss of life, which, with proper screening, could have been prevented. That is why this is so important. I am sure in the time it took you to read this you could take 1 extra minute out of your life to sign the new born screening petition. You just might have saved a child’s life by helping getting this bill passed. I will have some info at the end to help you help save, as they say, the boys. Bob and Elisa Seeger of Indian Larry Motorcycles of NYC are the founders of the Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation (AidanHasAPosse.org). They lost their son Aidan to ALD. Currently there are rides in NC, NY, PA, WV, and SD. There is room for 1 ride yearly in every state. Currently Elisa is working on the national level to try and get the screening mandatory in all 50 states. Jason Jones is the organizer of the North Carolina Ride. year all the money from the event went to Jacob Cory. Jacob Passed away and his mother has a petition out for North Carolina new born screening for ALD. If you were unfamiliar with what this cause is all about, I hope that clarifies it for you. When registration wrapped up at Rommel H-D, there was a nice ride to Crazy Shots in Hillsborough. Then it is music food a lots of incredible prizes. The donors are so generous for this event every year. The Joe Fessman original artwork donated was breath taking. I had to have it! I had a good feeling that I would be taking it home. Well I still remember looking at my number 49 and who ever had number 50 took it home. I know she was thrilled and lucky, very lucky! At the end of the day you always know this event was a huge success because success is bringing attention to something people might not know is lingering in their child, ready to strike at anytime. 48th Annual Boozy Creek Field Meet And Dirt Drags

Story and Photo by Alan Dockery Y’all know any place named Boozy Creek has to be lots of fun. For 48 years the Peacemakers MC of Kingsport holds a party in the East Tennessee hills, the Boozy Creek Field Meet and Dirt Drags. The meets are held around Mothers’ Day and Fourth of July. The first weekend of May the weather was beautiful for a weekend at Boozy Creek. The Peacemakers have a great place for an Old Fashioned Biker Party. There are lots of shaded campsites. The layout makes for short walks from your camp to the party. Cold beer, slushies, and great food are available. Servings are biker sized. Ralph’s burgers will fill you up for supper and his big breakfast fuels you for the day. Vendors line one side of the field with all kinds of cool biker stuff. Leon stays busy all weekend at his knife-sharpening booth. The party started Friday night with Haven playing until after midnight. Saturday afternoon Below 7 started rockin’ Boozy Creek. I liked them since they played some new rock. By midafternoon it was time for Biker Games. Y’all know how I feel about helmet laws, so tossing helmets in a trash can full of water seems like a good idea to me. Diesel from the Iron Riders MC won the Helmet Toss. A new game was Honey I’m Home. Picture being caught at your girlfriend’s house and having to get dressed, climb out the

window and ride off. John and Laura Atkins won Honey I’m Home. Other game winners were: Keg Push – Kevin Walker, Slow Race – Cody Bowlin, Plank Ride – Mr. Clean, Water Haul – Mitch and April Whitehead, Wiennie Bite - Josh and Tiffany Atkins. Several guys got on the burnout trailer, but Mitch Whitehead put on a smoky tire popping show for the win. Then it was time for People Games. Some of these games involve beer. Start means you have to down a beer before you go. There might be pit stops where you have to chug another one. Boozy Creek and free beer when you play, what can I say. Winners were: Tater Dig – Laura Barnett, Men’s Keg Toss – Josh Atkins, Women’s Keg Toss – Heather, Plunger race – Dillon Harmon & Mary Hammitt. Cody’s team won the Ski Race. The funniest game is the Bouncy Ball. Heather was the fastest at chugging beer and bouncing across the field. A bunch of folks won the Tug of War. Saturday night a couple bands played from dark until late. The popular Benny Wilson Band took the stage first. Was good to see those guys one more time. Railway Express kept folks dancing into the night. Sunday even more folks ride in for the bike show and dirt drags. Bike Show Winners were: Rat Bike – Big Bill Dorton, Stock – Brian Duncan, Dresser – Demon, Three-Wheeler – April Whitehead, Shovelhead – H. Price, Softail – Don Herndon, Custom – Mark Wampler, Sportster – David Broughton, Foreign – Mr. Clean, Indian – Todd Little, Panhead – Mitch Whitehead, V-Rod Lenny Leonard, Best of Show – Jeremy Hutchins. Before the races they got in one more Burnout Contest. Cody Bowlin smoked his old Kaw 900 for the win. Finally it was time to sling some dirt. After a couple rounds of qualifying and getting the feel of the strip, bikes lined up to race. The street tire and dirt bike classes were a little thin, but a full eight-bike field of the big quick bikes was ready to race for the money. Tattoo from Tri-Cities MC was quick on his black Sportster taking the Harley Street Tire and Overall Street Tire classes. Brandon Luttrell won the Money Class putting on a great show for us. Y’all need to come watch this and join in. Bring your street bike, the kids’ dirt bike or something serious and sling some dirt. For the July Dirt Drags they are running four-wheelers too. The party ends with the Miss Boozy Creek contest. The crowd favorite, Bridget, took home the big trophy and cash. The Peacemakers MC hosts a cool, old-fashioned biker party at their beautiful place in the Tennessee hills. Bring your race bike, field event partner, a good attitude, and y’all come join us. Josh Pardue Memorial Birthday Bash Poker Run By: Gary Steelman Josh Pardue Memorial Birthday Bash Poker Run was held April 30th with sign up at Tilley Harley-Davidson of Statesville, North Carolina. There were over a hundred riders signed up and rolling out across central North Carolina. Groups of riders headed out Old Mountain Road to the first stop at Quality Mart and then to Sherrills Ford to Horsefeathers for another card and some cold refreshments! The next stop was Rivals Grill and Tavern in Troutman, NC where the drinks are still cold, and the cards were hot. STE Powersports ended up being the last stop. The music was live, the party started as bikers from all over NC gathered a great cause. Josh Pardue was killed in a bike accident in December of 2015, leaving a wife and kids with no husband or dad. The monies gathered from the poker run and bike raffle and various auctions go to help the family. The bike raffle ended up being won by Charles Carter of Olin, NC. Congrats to Charles. STE Powersports sponsored the event providing door prizes food and drinks. The family sat and stood around Josh’s repaired bike and cranked the throttle as green and black balloons were released filling the air with Harley and the sight of wafting balloons.

Everyone had a great day, riding in the beautiful Carolina weather and meeting up with John, Jessie, and the crew at STE Powersports. The riders left out one after another as the chill of evening started to set in, knowing the day was spent helping out a brother’s family where over ten thousand dollars was collected. Thanks to all those who donated time, money and sweat to make this a great event.

Stand Up For Soldiers Benefit

By: Rose and Lloyd Stand Up For Soldiers is an all-volunteer group providing renovations, recreation, a stable home life, and self-confidence to recently disabled Veterans. They receive no government assistance, or grants. They get help from charity organizations and donations. Their main goal is to help disabled Soldiers have a stable life and get readjusted back into society. On Saturday, April 23rd Double D Burnout Saloon at 1408 E. Mountain Street in Kernersville, NC had their first annual Spring Into Summer Cook Off Bash. There was great cooking all through the night, several venders, and of course, bands, Watt Combo, Maggie O’Malley, and Mad House. It was $10 per person to get plates and try the wonderful food. All proceeds were donated to Stand Up For Soldiers. The winners of the cook off, judged by Forgotten Son’s Motorcycle Club, were Shoney Boy for barbecue, for chicken was Marsh Pit, and sauce was Mike Jones. When David and Missi Thomason decided to open Double D they made a promise to give all they could back to the community. They have done that and more. They sponsor a charity event almost every month.

A huge thanks go out to all that worked so hard to make this day a success, and always a thanks to all the bikers that come out and support. Stand Up For Soldiers is always in need of volunteers to help build a ramp or change a house around to make it more convenient. Bill Restricts Availability Of Unsafe Fuel

AmericanMotorcyclist.com U.S. Representatives Bill Flores (R-TX), Peter Welch (DVT), Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), Jim Costa (D-CA),Steve Womack (R-AR) and Cedric Richmond (D-LA) have introduced H.R. 5180, the “Food and Fuel Consumer Protection Act of 2016”. The American Motorcyclist Association supports this bill. The bipartisan legislation would cap mandated ethanol content in the nation’s fuel supply at 9.7 percent and institute a provision that automatically reverts the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s annual Renewable Volume Obligations to the previous year’s percentage if the EPA misses its Nov. 30 deadline. And, finally, the bill would ensure commercially available cellulosic and advanced ethanol has a place under the 9.7 percent cap. In other words, the bill would stop the federal government from forcing E15 fuel (15 percent ethanol by volume) into the market. Capping the ethanol mandate helps ensure the availability of safe fuels like E10 and a continuing place in the market for ethanol-free gasoline (E0) for older motorcycles. This is important, because the last RVO rule issued by the EPA decreased the E0 supply to just 130 million gallons from 9.2 billion gallons in 2016, despite the fact that the demand for E0 doubled. The current ethanol mandate is already having a deleterious effect on consumers. On May 8, the South Carolina

Department of Agriculture’s Consumer Protection Division announced the state will no longer sell premium ethanol-free gasoline due to a “supply issue.” None of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in use in the United States is certified by the EPA to operate on fuel containing more than 10 percent ethanol. Inadvertent use of E15 in vehicles not designed for its use can damage fuel system and engine components and void manufacturer’s warranties. Tell your representative to support H.R. 5180. Easy Ride For Rough Men

By: Star Munsey “People sleep peaceably in their bed at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” – George Orwell This quote is one of my favorites. In this day and age, it seems like the overly-politically correct public loves to have the protection afforded by our brave men and women of our military, but often they can’t deal with what it really takes to make that protection a reality. They love sleeping peaceably night after night, without thinking about the rough side, the gruff side, and the reality of war. This quote acknowledges this reality, and the benefit to all of us of having those brave, tough, selfless individuals there ready and willing to do what is necessary when honor and duty calls. Another quote I ran across recently also stood out, “It does not matter whether you are young or old, rich or poor, Republican or Democrat; it is our duty and responsibility to support those who sacrificed so much for our freedom.” This was found on the website for Military Missions In Action (MMIA), the local 501(c)3 Veteran’s charity we supported with a ride on Saturday, April 23rd. I agree with the quote, and the more I read about this charity, the more enthusiastic I became in my support of them though this ride, and otherwise. MMIA is a local, charitable organization that supports wounded and homeless veterans with home modification/ construction services, homeless veteran housing, toy drives for veterans’ children, and other veteran services. This is a charity that makes it possible for us all to give back to our veterans,

those “rough men” who give us our peace, safety and freedom. This really stood out as a charity I wanted to support, because I believe it is only right that we give back to veterans. They freely gave so much to us. As a biker, often times, the way we give back is through participating in an organized ride. This weekend was no exception. This ride for MMIA was so well organized. It was hosted by Veteran Enforcers Motorcycle Association (VEMA), and contained so much of what I enjoy in such events. The bikers all left at the same time for a nice easy ride from Ray Price Harley-Davidson in Raleigh, down to the destination of the American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay-Varina. At the destination, there were vendors, a lively band, all-American food, including dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings, raffles, and a silent auction. It was fun from start to finish. I walked away with some of my favorite items, including pins, t-shirts, a new shotgun, and a sense of joy and fulfillment that I was able to be a part of this greater good. This is an event I will really fondly remember for years to come. All this was put together to raise funds for MMIA to do what they do: help veterans. VEMA and the biker community came through for them and raised over $1500 with the day’s event. It was a successful day, where we made good memories while supporting a charity with a cause and purpose I believe in. Next time you are scanning events to participate in, I hope you seek out ones like this. Support our veterans, and in turn you are supporting the United States of America, and our way of life. Remember, not only do rough men stand ready to do violence on your behalf, but many have, and must continue to do so. Those men and women have served bravely and selflessly for their country and us. Sometimes the government doesn’t provide everything they need when they return to their daily lives, not even when what they need is related to wounds from serving bravely. The least we can do is seek out opportunities to help them a little in return. If we can do it on two wheels while making good memories and enjoying the ultimate freedom as a rider, that is even better.

Demo Days At Smokin’ Harley-Davidson By: Caroline This year Demo Days was held on the beautiful spring weekend of April 16-17. I have to tell you though, in order to test ride one of their new models, you had to get there and get signed up early! In order to get to ride the choicest new models, folks signed up in advance for more than one ride. As soon as they got back they were ready to hop on the next bike. They really kept the road captains from the Winston-Salem HOG Chapter busy with no lag time. The new Ultra and Road Glide touring bikes seem to be very popular models to try out as well as the new Softail Slim. For those who were not ready to take to the streets the Jumpstart stationary motorcycle was available to try out the riding experience. So if you were there, and had to wait there were plenty of things to do. Local vendors took the opportunity to set up outside the dealership and the Winston-Salem HOG Chapter had a hotdog fundraiser, not to mention all the great deals on pre-owned bikes, parts and motor clothes.

International Female Ride Day

By: WildThing The concept of International Female Ride Day© (IFRD) was rooted in a much earlier idea by its founder but finally came to reality with its introduction in Canada on that first Friday in May 2007. It is the sole brainchild of motorcyclist Vicki Gray, owner and founder of MOTORESS® an avid, globally known motorcycling advocate. It was promoted initially as a national event with the intent of eventually becoming an International campaign. But in its initial year, the “JUST RIDE!©” idea caught fire and went global. After the first few years, the first Friday date was pushed to the first Saturday in May to accommodate the women who were unable to ride due to work schedules. It was wonderful to watch the event grow each year as women around the world posted their photos to the Motoress web page and this year Facebook exploded with pictures of groups of varying numbers joyfully posting details of their rides. I personally saw posts from Hungary, Austria,

Australia, of course Canada, Ireland, the UK, Italy, Sicily, South Wales, Germany, and India. Stateside posts came in from Quad Cities, Illinois, Ogden, Utah, N. Dakota, El Paso, Bryan, Laredo, Luckenbach, McAllen, and College Station, TX, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, N. Utah, NW Montana, Homosassa, FL, Central NY, Wheat Ridge, CO, Concord, NH, and Dover, Ohio. It was a beautiful day on May 7, as twenty-five female riders gathered at Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, with clear skies and warm sun. There was excitement in the air as we introduced ourselves to unfamiliar faces and generally passed the time by sharing riding experiences and browsing the showroom, waiting for the start time. The dealership had made arrangements for us to be escorted and the Guilford County Sheriffs’ Department Motor Patrol did an excellent job of controlling traffic on the on ramps and intersections. It was a lovely ride out through the country and small communities of Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Brown Summit, Climax, as well as farmlands, and rural areas of Guilford County. I believe we surprised a few farmers and golfers as we passed by! Upon our return to Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, Kelsey and crew had prepared a delightful luncheon for the riders and Sheriff’s Deputies. There were croissants with chicken salad, small ham and cheese roll-ups, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and cookies. Kelsey had even had given out free tickets for door prizes drawings. Carmella won some Harley sunglasses, Candi won a Harley watch, and BJ won a white summer weight riding jacket. They were thrilled. Many of the lady riders that day were members of the riding group, Triad Bad Lasses, that is sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Greensboro. One Year Later

By: Rick Gammons Peggy and I went over to see Rusty and Jana at Trax Tavern in Thomasville on April 15th. They wanted us to come by and help them celebrate one year of business. I was amazed that a year has passed already. Trax is simply a goodtime tavern with a large local following. If you go by there with any regularity, you will always find familiar faces. Most patrons come by there on a steady basis. It has a bit of a “Cheers” atmosphere without being cheesy. You will often see veterans, bikers, blue and whitecollar workers. Be prepared to have a good time. If you don’t, it’s your own fault! Anyway, we came in early Friday afternoon. Several people had already beaten us there! Trax is not a wide tavern, but it is a long one. Almost half of one side was lined with pizza boxes, complements of Randy and Jana. It was their way of saying thanks to all the customers they had served over the past year. Quite a few motorcycle riders began to show up. The next thing you know, the room was full of leather-clad bikers. Several I knew, others I have seen around at other events. Needless to say the pizza disappeared! But the drinks and fun did not. And it continued deep into the night. Tommy Rock kept the music cranking throughout the evening with different styles that seemed to please all. Everyone had a large time even though the place was packed...again! BFBF 3rd Annual Motorcycle Awareness Day By: Jeanie Hood Carter After assisting many injured motorcyclists, from holding benefits to simply paying electric bills, car notes, and house notes, Bikers For Bikers Foundation has been holding an annual short ride for Motorcycle Awareness for the past 3 years. The funds from the annual ride have been put aside for some type of motorcycle awareness for the Fayetteville area of North Carolina. In January arrangements were made to hold the 3rd Annual Motorcycle Awareness Day at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson, in Fayetteville. Their only date available in May, which is perfect for Motorcycle Awareness Month, was the first Saturday, May 7th. The local HOG Chapter was cooking on the grills that date so food was free with a “donation jar” to raise funds for the chapter cooking. A couple of hundred came and went through the day. Some supported, some checking things out. Mayor of Fayetteville, Nat Robertson, delivered a signed Proclamation proclaiming May as Motorcycle Awareness Month in Fayetteville. North Carolina is the 6th highest in the USA for motorcycle accidents and fatalities with Fayetteville holding the 2nd highest numbers in the state. The NW portion of the state is the highest due to the high quantity of tourists there. Mayor Robertson rides, so he is up to date on the problems. Regardless, we made a statement for more awareness and had a good time. The weather was fabulous. Crossroads Entertainment DJ/ Scott James provided the music, and Shoogers Donuts was the best dessert I’ve had all year! You have to try the Strawberry Shortcake. Also, thank you to Michael Skarja and Wayne Kennedy, local musicians, for supporting! Trophies were awarded to: Vince Sittnick for the Man with the Most Miles on His Bike at 81K miles. Bobby Loftin was awarded Most Miles Traveled To The Event coming 80 miles to attend and the Oldest attending was awarded to a lady with the HOG Chapter, whose name I failed to write down. Horsefeathers Roadhouse Spring Jam Story and photo by Alan Dockery While some of y’all were getting ready to head for the beach, hundreds of bikers gathered at Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrills Ford, NC, for the Spring Jam. I rode in about noon, just as Manager Donna was making sure the beer tubs were full and everything was ready for a party. Quickly the parking lots filled with bikes as I greeted old friends and made new ones. Parties at Horsefeathers are fun since you can walk around the place and join several mini-parties. There’s the group out front watching folks come and go, hangin’ out round the beer tub or playing Giant Jenga. Inside the bar was hopping and great food was being served. Love them Hawg Wings and brisket. I like the Big Deck out back. Darren and Justin were strumming guitars and singing oldies that had us singing along. At least singing the lyrics we can remember. New Horsefeathers T-shirts were available and a beer tub meant you didn’t have to leave the deck for refreshment.

First thing I wanted was my first plate of Smoked Oysters. Oh, man! Were they good! I know we were into a month without an R in it, but these were big, meaty Apalachicola Florida area oysters. Smoked just right to medium rare. The Horsefeathers Spring Jam was a laid back afternoon with friends. There were cornhole boards and horseshoes set up for folks who wanted to play some. As evening approached and the party moved inside DJ Brandon fired up the karaoke and had folks singing and dancing into the night. I met several Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine readers who told me it was their first time enjoying Horsefeathers. I hope the ride across the river was worth it and they liked one of my favorite places. “Thanks to everyone who came by today,” Donna said. “It was great to see our regular customers from all over the area. I love welcoming new folks and seeing new smiling faces. The Horsefeathers’ staff did an awesome job for the Spring Jam.” Horsefeathers is a unique place on a Lake Norman cove in the Southeast corner of Catawba County, about a mile North of Hwy 150. I think it’s the oldest, coolest place on the lake to get great food and cold beer. With 24 beer taps and large coolers they’ll have something you like. They have the largest smokehouse in the area too. It may look small from the front, but there is lots of room inside on two levels. Plus they have The Big Deck, 2,100 square feet of cool looking down on the lake and party below. Ride in for Biker Sundays. Rock What You Got

By: Star Munsey There are days where I go for a ride with the intent to show my support for a certain charity, a cause, or person and somehow through this process, this miraculous exchange occurs where as I support or assist them, I am the one who feels inspired, blessed, and better for the experience. Today was one of those days. On Saturday, May 14th, I took a ride over to Hawg Farm in Clayton where Tara Dunsmore, of Pink Ink Tattoo, organized a “Day of Hope”. This was a day where we celebrated and honored Breast Cancer survivors, while raising funds for the Jill’s Wish Foundation. We did that, of course (raise money), but it seemed there was so much more to the day than money. The location was ideal for the ride and event, with plenty of room for parking and quiet roads to ride on surrounding the property. I arrived early and registered, and took some time to meet some truly inspiring people. I met Tara, the event organizer, who is a four-year cancer survivor herself. When you talk with her, you can tell she is passionate about what she does, and life in general. She said, “The type of person I am, I know I am going to make a difference…” She shared a bit about “PinkInkTattoo.com” where she offers 3-D areola, nipple, and scar camouflage tattoos for that final touch as breast cancer survivors recover, and she gave thanks to God for giving her the tattooing gift so she could help others. Tara told me about when she met Jill, and how Jill’s strength and determination impacted her, ultimately leading to today’s event. While speaking with her, I asked what advice she has for women faced with breast cancer, and she said, “Be your own best advocate. It is your life, your health, ask questions and seek a second opinion”. When I asked what advice she has for friends and family of those battling breast cancer, she explained that the best thing they should do is be understanding and surround them with love. Another person who touched the attendees’ hearts and minds today was Bart, Jill’s husband. He and a few close friends rode all the way from Kentucky to be here for this event. He openly told stories about when he met Jill, and how she is the

love of his life. He shared how she was so devoted to “Jill’s Wish Foundation”, and making a positive difference in other survivors lives. Most of all, Bart said that Jill wanted to share a motivational message, and help others move on with life. He told us that Jill wanted women to know they are beautiful just how they are. She proved true beauty is defined by confidence and kindness, because it is what is on the inside that makes you beautiful. So, whether it is a physical change from a loss of breasts from cancer, or some other physical difference from society’s version of supposed perfection, Jill told women to be proud and be beautiful. She put her message out there to “Rock What You Got”, as the t-shirt says that I brought home from this event. Through Bart’s emotions and in telling her story, I could tell that Bart remains dedicated to Jill, her message, and this charity. Before the ride, in addition to having time to meet the organizers and other attendees, we also milled about through various vendors, and grabbed some cool refreshments. Immediately before the noon ride, Tara spoke to share with the crowd about the Jill’s Wish Foundation. She told us about how Jill’s Wish Foundation is different than other charities that are related to breast cancer. They give grants to breast cancer patients to help with regular everyday bills and expenses, so they can focus on getting better. This type of assistance is invaluable to the recipients, because as Tara reminded me, “… you are never dealing with just cancer.” You can learn more or give at JillsWish.org. Just before the KSU, we all moved over to an open field where doves were released in honor and memory of those that are no longer with us, including Jill. She passed away in February 2016, but her legacy continues on, as does her inspiration. Then it was time for the ride, and what a great ride it was. We received a police escort for the entire hour’s ride route. It was absolutely enjoyable as we benefited by not having to stop or worry about other motorists. The route itself was serene, with mostly two-lane roads lined with trees, fields, and North Carolina beauty. It was a time to cruise, relax, soak up the

sunshine with clear blue skies on this perfect day. After the ride, we returned to Hawg Farm where Barbeque Brothers had a delicious lunch for us all. As the announcer said, they “…know how to put the heat to the pig.” We ate, met fellow riders, listened to the Southern Grace Band, and at various intervals throughout the afternoon we checked our tickets to see if we won any raffle or 50/50 prizes. In the end, when it was time to go, I reflected on my experience of a great day of riding and a well-executed event, but I also felt inspired to take time to look around and take note of all things that make life worth living and not take it for granted. I went home ready to throw on my new t-shirt and share Jill’s message with others, telling women, “Rock What You Got”.

20th Annual Ride For The Child 2016 By: Bill Gallaway There were almost 100 people in attendance on Saturday, April 23, for the Annual Ride For The Child. This was a great turnout since there were many rides to choose from that day. The weather was perfect for the near 100-mile route around town. Riders left The Parenting Place in Easley SC, between 10:30 and 11:30 to start the 20th Annual Ride for the Child. Their stops included Spinx, Aunt Sue’s Country Corner, Spangler’s, and Foothills Motorsports. The riders ended at Bleu Voodoo Grill in downtown Easley where they were serenaded by the Reservoir Dogs.

The Christian Motorcyclists Association ran all of the stops this year. Sponsors included FOP Lodge #9, QT, Iron Horse Motorcycle Lawyers, Easley Fire Department, Woodmen Life, Sam and Jane Wyche, TTI, Bojangles, George Johnson Insurance, Gwinn’s Tire Pros, Greta and Troy Young, Seth Crow: State Farm, Behavioral Health Services and Motorcycle Law Group. The Parenting Place (tppupstate.org) provides home-visitation to at-risk families in Pickens, Anderson, Oconee, and Greenville counties. Through this parenting education, they aim to prevent all forms of child abuse and neglect. They also provide counseling services, as well as anger management classes and parenting education classes. They are hoping to have a much bigger event next year! The Parenting Place thanks everyone for their support!

At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. “You have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. “Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.” The American said, “The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.” “Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!” The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then, he quietly explained, ‘’Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single Frenchman to show a passport to.” You could have heard a pin drop.

The teacher asked if she could ask him some questions. The principal and Johnny agree. Teacher: “What does a cow have 4 of that I only have 2 of?” Johnny: “legs”. Teacher: “What do you have in your pants that I don’t have?” the principal gasps but before he can stop him from answering Johnny says, “pockets”. A husband and wife who work for the circus go to an adoption agency. Social workers there raise doubts about their suitability. The couple produces photos of their 50-foot motor home, which is clean and well maintained and equipped with a beautiful nursery. The social workers raise concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple’s care. “We’ve arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin, and computer skills.” Then the social workers express concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. “Our nanny is a certified expert in pediatric care, welfare, and diet.” The social workers are finally satisfied. They ask, “What age child are you hoping to adopt?” “It doesn’t really matter, as long the kid fits in the cannon.”

A first grade teacher was having trouble with one of her students. One day she asked Johnny what his problem was, he replied, “I’m too smart for the first grade, my sister is in the third grade and I’m smarter than her, too.” The teacher took him to the principal’s office and explained the situation to the principal. The principal told her that he would give Johnny a test, and if he failed to answer one question he would have to go back to the first grade and be quiet. The teacher and Johnny both agreed. Principal: “What is 3 X 3”, Johnny: “9”; Principal: “6 X 6”, Johnny: “36”. And so it went on like this, the principal asked him every question a third grader should know. Finally after about an hour he told the teacher, “I see no reason Johnny can’t go to the third grade, he answered all of my questions right.”

There were protesters at the grocery store handing out pamphlets on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one. There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman’s shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady said, “Lady, don’t you care about the children of Iraq?” The old woman looked up at her and said: “Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam. All three died so a bitch like you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country. If you touch me again, I’ll stick this umbrella up you’re a$$ and open it.” Biker Bob goes to the supermarket and notices a very attractive woman waving at him. He walks over to her and she greets him warmly. He’s rather taken aback because he can’t figure out from where he knows her. So he says, “Do you know me?” To which she replies, “I think you’re the father of one of my kids.” His mind races and he says, “Are you the stripper from the bachelor party that I had sex with on the pool table, with all my buddies watching, while your partner whipped my ass with wet celery?” She looks into his eyes and says calmly, “No, I’m your son’s teacher.”

When I heard Al Sharpton was a guest preacher at a black church in town, I decided to check him out in person and see what it was all about. I sat down and Sharpton came up to me. I don’t know why; maybe it was because I was the only white person in the Church. Roll him over.” The mortician rolled him over and Gomer said, “No, it ain’t Stanley” The mortician asked, “How can you tell?” Gomer said, “Well, Stanley had two assholes.” “What? He had two assholes?” asked the mortician. “Yup, we never seen ‘em, but everybody used to say: ‘There’s Stanley with them two assholes.’” Two nuns were shopping at a 7-Eleven store. As they passed by the beer cooler, one nun said to the other, “Wouldn’t a nice cold beer or two taste wonderful on a hot summer evening?” The second nun answered, “Indeed it would, sister, but I would not feel comfortable buying beer, since I am certain it would cause a scene at the checkout counter.” “I can handle that without a problem,” the other nun replied, and she picked up a six-pack and headed for the checkout. The cashier had a surprised look on his face when the two nuns arrived with a six-pack of beer. “We use beer for washing our hair,” the nun said. “Back at the convent, we call it ‘Catholic shampoo.’ ” Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter, pulled out a package of pretzel sticks, and placed them in the bag with the beer. He then looked the nun straight in the eye, smiled, and said: “The curlers are on the house.”

2nd Quarter Nazareth Birthday Party By: Darby & Betty Dillard On May 7, 2016 we had our 2nd Quarter Nazareth Birthday Party. I’m happy to say we had another very good day. When I say “another”, I’m talking about overall parties in these last eight plus years we’ve been involved. You see, sometimes things may not go quite as well as you would like, regardless of how much effort you put forth. During and after the 1st quarter party, I was a bit embarrassed and disappointed. There were some conflicting events for the children and some of the children were, let’s say, not in a very good mood. The timing couldn’t have been worse as we had some first time visitors. So, if you ever try something and find yourself disappointed, I hope you try at least one or two more times before you give up. At the end of my letter I’m going to share my wife’s thoughts about this. She is 100% more elegant than I am. The following is a letter for all who may take the actions of some of the children at Nazareth as the way it always is. It is not. Darby and I were really embarrassed about how badly the last party went. Cheri (who we deal with at the home) was as well. Cheri gave them all a good talking to. “What happened that day has never happened before. Normally the kids are all there and so excited to see us. But just our luck, the day we were so excited to have a group of first time visitors, the kids came late and it seemed as if they were not excited to be there. Cheri told us they had new cottage staff and they just weren’t on board with a lot of things, either. Cheri talked with the staff, too. I told Cheri if the staff and kids were not going to participate then maybe we should just do Christmas only. She asked that we don’t punish the kids who do love us coming for a few bad kids who don’t care about anything. Well, that got me to thinking: How would I feel as a 13 – 20 year old kid if I was taken out of my home? How would I react to people if my family abused me, physically or mentally? How would I react to people if I was taken out of my home due to my parents caring more about drugs or alcohol than me? Would I trust strangers? Would I be friendly to strangers? Would I even trust people - especially people I didn’t know bringing me gifts? Why would someone who doesn’t know me want to buy me anything, when my own family doesn’t even care, or had gifts for my birthday? How would I react to people bringing me gifts if my parents didn’t teach me how to be thankful or to appreciate kindness from others or how to be a responsible person? They only cared about their next drink or high. Would I be angry? - probably! Would I act like I

didn’t care or was excited? - probably. Would I trust anyone? probably not. I’m not sure of what happened that day. We are sorry it happened. I do understand this is not for everyone. I get it. However, Darby and I do it because we do care about the children. We do care about how they were treated at home. We don’t understand how a parent could treat their children the way some do. We don’t do this to make us feel good. It’s not about us or for us to get patted on the back. We want to bring a little happiness to children who have been dealt a bad hand in life. We have prayed about our involvement at Nazareth. I told God, if you want us to get out of this, then send someone who will take good care of them. He hasn’t done that yet, so we are in this until God removes us.” I R I DE

South Carolina State HOG Rally 2016

By: Bill Gallaway, Mark, Molly, and Lincoln Infield The South Carolina State Harley Owners Group Rally was held over the weekend of April 21st through Saturday April 23rd. once again the host dealership was Timms HarleyDavidson in Anderson, SC. The weather during the week leading up to the event was dry almost drought conditions. So wouldn’t you know it there would be some rain. It rained on Friday but it moved out as fast as it moved in. Registration was held Thursday at the host hotel, the Holiday Express. It was good to see many familiar faces from last year. As a righteous kickoff to the 2016 South Carolina H.O.G. Rally, rally goers met at Timms Harley-Davidson for a short ride to Darwin Wright Park on the shores of Lake Hartwell. We road around to the back of the park to Shelter # 2 that had an open deck attached to it. The Westside High School ROTC presented the colors as the National Anthem was sung. Ken Higginbotham, this year’s Rally Coordinator, welcomed all the participants and introduced the local Harley dealer, Rocky Timms. Rocky thanked Ken for all the time and work he had put in since the last rally, getting ready for this one. Rocky welcomed everyone from out of town and reminded us to all have fun and be safe, and mentioned that the dealership was there to help if anyone needed it. Then he invited us all back to the dealership for Bike Night and the Rally Party. The H.O.G. Regional Manager, Thor Robinson, was intro-

duced next and he also welcomed everyone and mentioned that H.O.G was always ready to listen to the suggestions of the riders because without riders there would not be a HarleyDavidson Motor Company. Ken then came back to the mic and introduced the Rally Committee members and assistants. Wow, it sure takes a lot of people and effort to put on a rally! Then they had two cash, “50/50” drawings, each worth $515. Most everyone rode back over to the dealership for an evening of camaraderie, listening to DB Bryant Band belt out some tunes, and visiting the vendors on hand.

Friday morning a dozen bikes staged at Timms HarleyDavidson to take a ride to some of the local businesses who sponsored the rally as Passport Stops. The more passport businesses that you got to stamp your passport, the more chances you earned for prizes! We rode out of Timms at 10am. First stop was Palmetto Medical Research Associates in Easley. They had a nice booth set up outside with awesome give away shirts, hats, cozies, pens, water and more! We hung out

for a bit and headed out towards The Tiki Hut Lakeside Grill in Seneca. This was a quick stop as the rain was moving in and we were trying to make a few stops before the bottom dropped out! After getting the passports stamped at the Tiki Hut, we

Friday afternoon was filled with fun and bike games at the host hotel. Later that evening, Timms H-D hosted a “members only” party and bike show. There were many items that were given away as door prizes and bargains galore. As part of the South Carolina H.O.G. Rally in Anderson, SC, representatives from Michelin Tire Company presented an informative, interactive, discussion about Michelin motorcycle tires at the Denver Downs venue on Saturday afternoon. The session focused on tire pressure and they passed out a colorful handbill that posed the relevant points of Why, How, and When Should I Check My Tires. Deborah, one of the techs, gave a demonstration of inflation levels with the help of some

rolled out and enjoyed the beautiful lake side scenery on the way to The Last Chance Saloon in Walhalla. By this time there was a light rain falling. After a short visit at The Last Chance Saloon, we saddled up again and headed out for our last stop, Skin’s Hotdogs in Easley. We took a break from the traffic and went in for some famous Skin’s hotdogs. Once our tanks were full we headed out for the last leg of the trip. As we got closer to the Holiday Inn we ran into the rain. When we arrived at the hotel parking lot we were soaked through! Despite the impromptu shower we had a great time and a great ride! On Friday morning there was also a guided ride to the The Georgia Guidestones. Electric City HOG guides led seventeen riders out of Timms H-D in Anderson, SC around 9:30 to see this interesting and mysterious destination. The Georgia Guidestones are located just over the Georgia state line at the highest point in Elbert County, which happens to be in a cow pasture in Elberton, Georgia. The Elberton Granite Finishing Company erected the monument in the late 70’s and early 1980 at the behest of a man known as R.C. Christian. The structure is sometimes referred to as an “American Stonehenge”. The monument is 19 feet 3 inches tall, made from six granite slabs. One slab stands in the center, with four, which are astronomically aligned arranged around it. A capstone lies on top of the five slabs. Inscribed on the slabs are 10 guidelines in 8 of the world’s most popular languages. Moving clockwise around the structure from due north, these languages are: English, Spanish, Swahili, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian. A few feet to the west of the monument, an additional granite ledger has been set level with the ground. This serves as an explanation of the meaning and physical attributes of the Guidestones under the central theme: Let these be guidestones to an Age of Reason.

The one with the correct inflation bounced just right. Think about it, correctly inflated motorcycle tires have optimal contact patch on the road, optimal grip, and the most comfortable ride. One thing I learned, and maybe you all already know this, but the air pressure on the sidewall of your tire is the MAXIMUM for that tire. You should check your Owners Manual for the CORRECT tire pressure for your motorcycle. Michelin ought to know – they’ve been manufacturing motorcycle tires since 1898! Then to punctuate their presentation, they gave out several Michelin branded goodies and a certificate for a brand new set of motorcycle tires! Bruce from Pendleton, SC was the lucky winner. Everyone loves Bingo, right? Here we are at the Denver Downs Farm in Anderson, SC, in the spacious, open air, Pavilion Barn and Luanne is calling out the numbers as HOGers anxiously

scanned their Bingo cards for the winning line. At lot was at stake, too, as the SC Harley-Davidson sponsoring dealerships, Thunder Tower, Low Country, Myrtle Beach, Black Jack, and Greenville, donated gift cards in various denominations. Even the rally goers standing in line for BBQ lunch, and cold beverages were holding their Bingo cards in hopes of winning a prize. The final Bingo game was “The Last Man Standing” and numbers were called and players had to sit when the number called was not on their card. Finally, there was only one, and he received the largest gift card worth $250 at Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson. After a full afternoon of Biker Bingo, cornhole games, various dart games, and delicious BBQ lunch, the rally was coming to a close. There were all kinds of prizes and awards to be given out. Cash prizes for the winners of the Pass Port Stops, Dealer Receipt Tour and volunteer prizes. To cap the weekend off Ronnie Alley and his jump team parachuted from a helicopter into Denver Downs with a huge American flag. It was truly a sight to behold. Cool aerial pho-

Ken Higginbotham thanked all the sponsors and began presenting rally banners and dozens of cool Harley stuff to raffle ticket holders. There were Harley cooler chairs, backpacks, handbags, luggage, tote bags, throws, car mats, clocks, a shop stool, a fire pit, and watches. They gave away 2 GoPro cameras, a NASCAR racing experience, travel vouchers, and eight certificates for a pair of Michelin or Dunlop motorcycle tires! They gave away two shipboard motorcycle trips for 2 and the very special, one-of-a-kind rally knife. A fella who had ridden his 2000 Sportster all the way from New York won the knife! Lastly, beautiful eagle head trophies were presented to the hard working Rally Committee for this 2016 SC H.O.G. Rally. Group pics were taken and final farewells were said and the rally goers drifted off to their various accommodations, and the SC H.O.G. Rally 2016 came to an end. Story and photo by Alan Dockery April gave us five Saturdays and I took a nice one near the end of the month to join the Iwo Jima Chapter of the Leathernecks MC International for their 3rd Annual Poker Run. After a ride around Catawba and Lincoln Counties, we ended at Ryan’s Sports Bar in Conover, NC, for food and fun. Friends, food, beer, old stories and music by Mitch Clark made a great way to wind down the day. I forgot who won what, but thank them for donating winnings back to the Leathernecks MC. “It was great to see the support we get from everyone with operating expenses for the year so we can concentrate on other events like our Veterans Surprise coming in November,” said James Glazebrooks, Treasurer. The Iwo Jima Chapter includes members who live around Hickory, NC. At the ride, The Leathernecks announced their Veteran Surprise project. “We are Leathernecks MC, a group of Marines and FMF Corpsmen, our Docs,” James said. “We do charity events to raise money to help local veterans. With Project Veteran Surprise, we will surprise veterans on Veterans Day at local grocery stores and pay for their groceries. “Every dollar donated will be spent on veterans in the Hickory area. What money isn’t spent on groceries will be used to help feed veterans along with other things. I would like to have the donations completed by Oct 10 so that we will have time to make sure all arrangements are completed before Nov 11. “We are Veterans working to help other veterans, so this is

By: Mike Allen The April 23rd Poker Run benefit for Mike Scott was the season’s first run for many of the 75 bikes that shared some good North Carolina road under a suspicious sky. There were a handful of bikes that started off clean at Mike’s Lakeview Hideaway and returned less than perfect after ending up on their sides at various points during the day due to wet roads and some slips in the mud. The poker run was set up to benefit Mike Scott after an outpatient procedure last January, turned into a very costly, six week, in-patient stay which included two surgeries and four times a week therapy sessions. Mr. Scott is now unable to work and has paralysis on his left side. Mr. Scott’s son, Tyler Scott, is a very talented musician and has been providing the lucky folks at “Mike’s Lakeview Hideaway” with many nights of music as a solo artist and/or with his band. The ride was a well thought out ride through the Carolina countryside to Runt’s in Roxboro, where the riders were treated to some pizza. Then we headed towards the Local Watering Hole on Guess Road. Bottoms Up on Juliam-Oakley Road in Rougemont was next up for a cold one. Bottoms Up is known by many as the former lair of our man, Beetlejuice. The new owners kicked it up a notch by adding a huge metal shelter, which will be a perfect refuge from the scorching July sun.

Matthew: 6:19 Don’t lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust do corrupt (20) but lay up treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust destroys. You know that feeling when you flip a switch or push a button and nothing happens? So out of desperation you keep pushing or flipping and nothing. The battery is good and so are the fuses. Time to troubleshoot the electrical system. Sometimes it’s a simple fix, other times not as easy. Sometimes you have to cut into the wiring harness to inspect each wire. Then test each wire one at a time. You see, just like the moth and rust that Matthew spoke of, that can corrupt our lives, corrosion and rust can cause a wire to break inside the harness. You can’t see it, but you see the results. Things stop working, first just a horn, then maybe a turn signal, then a radio. Before you know it nothing works. Life can be a lot like that. We have a problem that others cannot see, then another, then another. There comes a time in our life when nothing seems to be working. Like an owner of a motorcycle who needs a shop to replace a wiring harness, we need Jesus to replace the things in our heart that are corrupt. So when the buttons and switches of your life quit working, call out to Jesus. He is waiting. He wants to ride through this life with you. Hope to see you at an event or rally soon. 6th Annual Kids Path Of Hospice Bike Show

By: Scott Wicker On Saturday, April 23rd, Down Home Harley-Davidson hosted the 6th Annual Kids Path Of Hospice Bike Show and Down Home Harley-Davidson Open House. The show was blessed by beautiful weather that brought out a lot of show bikes and spectators as well. All departments in the store were jumping. MotorClothes® had all their new accessories for the spring riding season and the Genuine Motorparts® counter guys stayed busy answering questions and helping customers with new accessories. Motorcycle sales are great and with the new model Harley›s available, sales can only get better. Outside, folks were being entertained by Dixie Revival and some great food was being served up by the Grillin› and Chillin› folks of the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter. The main attraction of the day was the fact that the 6th Annual Kid›s Path Of Hospice of Alamance/ Caswell Counties Bike Show was taking place at the dealership. Sixty five motorcycles registered and almost every bike that registered received a custom made trophy. 50/50 tickets were sold and door prizes and great items that were donated for the benefit were too many to mention. Home made baked goods were available as well. In all, over $17,500 and counting was raised for Kids Path Of Hospice. A Special Thanks to Lucky›s Saloon and Down Home Harley-Davidson. A Special Thank You goes out to Robin for donating the blankets. Thanks to all the sponsors that continue to help make this bike show such a success year after year. Story and photo by Alan Dockery The National Hot Rod Association comes to zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC, a couple times a year. But their April visit is the most intense when fans pack the place for the Seventh Annual Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods. Yeah, they run four at the same time instead of two. Four 10,000 horsepower Top Fuel or Funny Cars launching at the same time really rattles your chest and head. I dig the cars, but Pro Stock Motorcycle is what really gets me to the strip. A bunch of bike racers were there. By the end of qualifying, 24 riders had made passes trying to get into the 16-bike field. Some big names didn’t make it and spent Sunday watching eliminations. Matt Smith of King, NC, had his Victory Gunner running great and qualified second. Shawn Gann, Stoneville, NC, qualified his Buell fourteenth. Angie Smith, King, missed the field on her Victory. As Sunday elimination rounds went down Matt was looking real good. He was first

across the finish line through the first two rounds and heading to the final. The Harley-Davidson teammates, Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec, were also quick and advancing. Chip Ellis is a favorite with us old Harley drag racing fans riding the Junior Pippin Buell and made it to the final round. Hines made an awesome pass, two thousandths of second reaction time, 6.844 elapsed time, at 195.42 mph to take the win. That makes three years in row he has left zMAX Dragway with the trophy. “I think the Four-Wide is the only event where you can lose a round and still win,” said Hines, the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. “We put a fresh motor in my V-Rod on Saturday, and I had a strong-running motorcycle today. The Screamin’ Eagle team won the first two races this year, so we are off to a great start. We are really happy with our performance and the way the bikes are responding to tuning.”

10th Annual Carolina Classic Motorcycle Show By Wally Wersching On Saturday May 7th, the place to be was the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. The 10th Annual Carolina Classic Motorcycle Show brings in classic bikes from all over the southeast and this year was no exception. The bikes were both classic and unusual. I arrived at about 10:30 and there was already a pretty good crowd. As I started to walk to see the rest of the bikes, I saw the trophy table. Someone is very talented in making all the trophies to be given away to the winners out of used motorcycle parts. Then a man rode in on a motorcycle that I had never seen before. I walked to the bike after it was parked to get a closer look, and still wondered what it was. Someone said that it was a “Panther”. After I got home, I did some research on the “Panther”. Phelon and Moore (P&M) manufactured motorcycles in England from 1904 to 1967. The most notable was the “Panther”. It was a single cylinder where the engine leaned forward, and was a stressed part of the frame. It was nicknamed the “Sloper”, and came as either 600cc or 650cc. It was an unusual engine because it had dual exhaust pipes coming out of the single cylinder. It was a relatively quiet engine as it rode in. There are many “Panther” clubs in the UK that have meetings, and annual meets. The P&M motorcycles were some of the best of their time with many new innovations. I walked back to the other bikes on display, and saw some old friends – bikes like I used to own. There was a new looking Honda 90 S. I had one when I was stationed on Grand Turk while in the Navy. There was a nice Honda CB450. I owned one while in college. Then there was a nice Honda CB750. I owned a ’69 (the first year) during college, too. One I’ll never forget was a Honda SL350. It was a very well balanced bike. When I’d pull a wheelie, it was always straight. There were some great bikes at the show, too – like a Vincent Rapide. I always liked the Vincents but cannot afford one. They bring close to $100,000 in good shape. The bike show winners were:

European: 1st Kevin Chapman - 1967 Ducati Monza 250, 2nd Donald Donadio - 1973 Benelli 650 Tornado, 3rd Conley Meyers - 1967 BMW R69S. British: 1st Dave Mims - 1954 Triumph Tiger, 2nd Jim Pickler - 1974 Triumph Daytona 500, 3rd Glenn Kellis - 1974 Norton Commando. American: 1st Dave Mims - 1929 Indian Scout, 2nd Lyle Hogan - 1982 Harley XR1000. Competition: 1st Robert Berry - 1982 Yamaha YZ 250, 2nd Lyle Hogan - 1989 Fantic 305 Trials. Custom: 1st Rick Stancil - 1983 Suzuki GS1100, 2nd Donavan King - 1976 Honda 750. Retro: 1st Peter Henkenjohann - 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer, 2nd Dan Whitfield - 1983 Harley FXRS. Rat Bike Award: Tom Duncan - 1980 Harley Chopper. Best in Show: Mike Montague - 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900. The oldest bike on display was a 1929 Indian Scout. Congratulations to all the winners. I walked back to the parking area. There were a lot of unusual bikes parked along the hedgerow from Harley Panheads to touring BMW’s and everything in between. They were not entered in the show but were just as rare, and unusual as the ones in the show. I backtracked to I-85, and when I got home a little after 2 PM, Cindy and I decided to stay home for lunch – another great way to spend a Saturday. 8th Annual Michael “Boz” Kerr Memorial Bikers Inside The Beltway

Motorcycle Riders Foundation MRF.org On Thursday, May 12th over 100 members of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) made the trip to Washington, DC to connect with elected officials from across the country in support of motorcyclists’ rights. Twenty-four states were represented this year and more than 300 meetings with members of Congress and their staff took place over the course of May 10th, 11th, and 12th. Members of the MRF brought their bikes, as well as their personal stories from back home, to Capitol Hill and discussed issues critical to the 2016 MRF’s legislative agenda. Among these included opposing the REFUEL Act; supporting the Motorsports Act, as well as recommendations of the charter for the newly re-established Motorcycle Advisory Council. In addition, legislators heard about updating the definition of a motorcycle, as well as concerns over the profiling of motorcyclists. Every meeting attended by MRF members marked another critical step forward in building and maintaining relationships with congressional offices. Each meeting provided the opportunity to communicate directly with a wide array of lawmakers who are currently considering legislation that would affect the rights of motorcyclists. The MRF staff in Washington, DC will begin the process of follow-up with many of the offices that were targeted. However, it is imperative that local groups and clubs continue to advocate in your home states to ensure that progress continues. As constituents, the visits in the home district are extremely impactful. The talking points used on Capitol Hill can be found on the MRF website.
