ell, the kids are back in school, our weather has cooled off, and we are staring fall in the face. Don’t get me wrong, I am not finished with summer riding but, according to the calendar, it is winding down. It has been an eventful summer with vacations, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, and all the other usual items that we encounter on a daily basis. I am assuming that it has been the same for everyone else, too. What ever happened to those “lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer”? Life just seems to be moving too fast. Which brings me to my point. Never pass up an opportunity, no matter what it is. Make the most of every day so that, in the end, you will not regret having missed out on the fun. I think this is really important as I have looked back and realized that I wished that I had done this or gone there. Carpe Diem – seize the day! There are many more opportunities ahead to enjoy riding your motorcycle and the camaraderie that accompanies it, or are there? Think about who you used to hang out with 10 years ago. If you are like me, many are absent today. Life is but a vapor, and as bikers we are all aware of how suddenly someone may disappear from our ranks. Sometimes it is an accident, but it could just as easily be a job change or moving away. Cherish every opportunity and remember to tell people that you love them. Give them a hug or a big ole biker slap on the back. Take a look at The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar in this issue. Find somewhere new and different to ride this month. Treat yourself to a new adventure, whether it is with old friends or by yourself. But whatever you decide to do, do it safely and rejoice at the end of every day. Every beautiful sunset is the celebration of a great day. Hopefully, the following sunrise will mark the beginning of a new adventure. Robert Earl Keen says, “The road goes on forever and the party never ends” but does it? Even in the song there are consequences. Choose wisely.

Quotable Quote “No compact among men ... can be pronounced everlasting and inviolable, and if I may so express myself, that no wall of words, that no mound of parchment can be so formed as to stand against the sweeping torrent of boundless ambition on the one side, aided by the sapping current of corrupted morals on the other.”

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

Rommel H-D Durham 2nd Anniversary Party By: Kathy Johnson Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, or should I say any bigger, in give aways, Rommel H-D in Durham gave 200 people the opportunity to win a 2015 Road Glide valued at $29,445! Once again the price for a chance to win something from Rommel was FREE! All you had to do was be one of the quickest to get there at 10 am when those doors unlocked and register. Remember, the first 200 that signed up got a chance to roll the dice and spell Harley, so there was a good size line waiting for them to unlock the dealership doors that morning. Leigh Sawtelle was number one on the list. Time went quickly getting your number for your position in line for your turn. You can ask Bobby Jones about that. He was number 201, so he was out of luck and couldn’t roll the dice, but he still hung out hoping someone would roll that Road Glide out the door that day. Bottom line - it was just fun. People really got in to it. I talked with a gal named Becky Anderson and she let me know

she had been practicing rolling dice the night before. Poor thing! She didn’t even get one letter! Only one side of the dice had a letter on it, the other sides had numbers. I had a bad roll myself but the crowd was having a good time anticipating someone winning. In the end, out of 200 people getting to roll, 8 people rolled 3 of the letters and they received $20 gift cards. Four people rolled 4 letters and won $50 gift cards. There was a massive crowd and I heard the bell ring a few times that day. I guess a few people that couldn’t win bought a bike. An acquaintance of ours bought his 6th bike from Rommel H-D this year! The crowd held all day, even when one of our infamous rainstorms hit hard. When the rain was over, Rommel H-D was still not done. They started calling out names for door prizes. I began to wonder if there is anything they are not going to try and let you take home today. It was a definite “all the bells and whistles” event. If you didn’t have a great time that day, you must not have been at Rommel H-D.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Virtual Bike Show Photo Shoot By: Kickstart & Donut The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine pulled off their first virtual bike show photo shoot last month at south lake saloon in Lexington, SC. It was hot as a son of a gun, but we had fun meeting and seeing everyone that came out. We had a good game plan and it was a blast. It took a lot of people planning for us to make this day a memorable one. We took over 30 bike entries photos to be entered in the contest. We would like to start off by giving a special thanks to all of our supporters and vendors and want to mention their names as a special token of our appreciation South Lake Saloon, Chalkline, Chance, CWC Abate, McGraths Law Firm, 4 Wheelin Power Sports, Southern Breeze Entertainment, Back-

yard BBQ, Southern Leather & Lace, & Melinda Martin LMT. So as the event went on, we wanted to give a little something extra to the friends that came out. We gathered up 3 trophies to give away as small thank you for those that participated, so this is how it went. We decided we did not want to be the judge for the onsite giveaway prizes so we got a little friend off ours, 8-year-old Xander Sansbury. We took him around to show him all the bikes and he gave away the first place to Bobby Jeffcoat (custom trike) and the second place went to Gator. Xander liked the tall ape hangers, and Kickstart and Donut choose the mini chopper as the third place. We all had a blast and can’t wait for The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine to come back and put on another fabulous event in South Carolina. Until then ride safe and tell everyone to go to www.FullThrottleMagazine.com and vote on your bike. They will be entered in the order in which they were received, so they might take a while to show up. MLL&R

Nazareth Children’s Home 3rd Quarter Birthday Party By: Darby Dillard Hello Everyone! I’m so grateful for all of our regular attendees! Without your dedication this event wouldn’t happen and that would be a shame. We had a good turnout, but we sure could use some more support. We had five bikes show up at Speedway H-D, along with two cages that followed. There were five other bikes that showed up from the Rockwell area. All and all there was a total of about twenty five supporters that came to help us put some much needed joy in the lives of these young people. We had a first time visitor, Belinda Bee from 2 Million Bikers 2 DC, which was our pleasure for her to be with us and participate. With her involvement in 2 Million Bikers 2 DC we’ll be able to spread the word even farther. I’d be remised if I didn’t thank Speedway H-D for their continued support. Speedway H-D has been faithful since before we

Triumph is honored to be able to help get more veterans involved in motorsports,” said Matt Sheahan, COO of Triumph Motorcycles America. “The ThankA-Hero program is also another way we’re extending our gratitude to our veterans.” The Triumph ‘Thank-A-Hero’ program recognizes active duty military, retired or honorably discharged former military service members, police officers, and firefighters by offering a $500 voucher with the purchase of any new Triumph motorcycle. Vouchers can be used in-store or online towards the purchase of Triumph parts, accessories, clothing, or merchandise. This program runs through September 30, 2015, and can be combined with any other offers.

Treat Yourself To A

By: Garrett Carter Triumph Motorcycles America has been racing in support of our nation’s heroes throughout the 2015 season, as well as saluting them with the relaunch of the ‘Thank-A-Hero’ program. Triumph has partnered with VETMotorsports, a non-clinical outreach program that honors and empowers disabled combat veterans by encouraging active participation in motorsports. Through Castrol’s VETMotorsports Performance Match Fund, the on-track success of the Triumph factory-backed teams in both AMA Pro Flat Track and MotoAmerica has earned VETMotorsports $7,750 thus far this racing season, which wraps up at the end of September. VETMotorsports has been embedding veterans as crewmembers with the Latus Motors Racing MotoAmerica and Bonneville Performance Flat Track teams throughout the season. Adding to the suc-

1st Annual For The Wounded Ride

By: Caroline This ride was for the benefit of 27-year-old Jessie Fletcher, AKA Superman, an extraordinary young Marine Veteran. While serving in Afghanistan, he was wounded, losing several fingers and had both legs amputated above the knees. Jessie told me when he enlisted in the military as infantry, he understood that there was a possibility of being wounded or even losing his life, but that he was willing to make the sacrifice in order to serve. He also announced just before the ride, that in spite of his injuries being there was painless for him and his wife to be able to fellowship with so many people. The folks at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson were gracious hosts of this event where the riders began and ended their ride. The WinstonSalem HOG Chapter was also there to help out. The ride was good, with Forsyth County Sheriffs leading us to the Field Of Honor Park and back to the dealership for food and drawings for lots of great stuff. Red tape and the lack of support from some non-profit organizations that did not fulfill their promises and others who would not work together over the past 4 years have delayed

Jessie and his wife Emily from moving into the handicap accessible home they need. We hope that the great turn out for this ride will help them get closer to that goal. If you would like to know more about this amazing young man, or would like to help out go to www.ForeverTwoWheels6223.com.

HiToms Benefit For Randale Fulbright By: Rose and Lloyd Randale Fulbright is a young lady that has been suffering for over a year from Chiari Malformation Type 1 and Pseudotumor Cerebri. Her doctor refused to do needed surgery without money down. It became an emergency situation, and an angel donated the down payment. Surgery was done, but the doctor will not continue without further payments. Sunday, August 2nd, The HiToms Baseball Team held a benefit to raise much needed money in her honor. All ticket sales, and a 50/50 was held to raise money to help pay these medical expenses. Several motorcycles rode in to escort her to the opening ceremony. There are so many to thank for their help; The HiToms for opening their heart and donating the ticket sales, To all the fans that participated in the 50/50, and a special Thank you to Billy and Cathy Camshatt, who won the 50/50 and donated their winnings back to the cause, and to all bikers that escorted Randale onto field.

10th Annual Antique Bikes On Main By: WildThing Downtown Chesnee, SC had it going on the hot weekend of July 25 and 26. The city kicked off its annual farm festival with free concerts, a tractor and engine show, festival rides, and fun for the whole family. There was also a prayer ride on Saturday, a motorcycle and bicycle stunt show, Kamikaze Japanese Bike Show, and fireworks in the evening. The real draw to this off the beaten path little country town (Pop. 868) in the upstate was “Antique Bikes On Main Street” on Sunday. The place was really hoppin! There were bikes of all ages parked along ‘the Main drag’ where it was motorcycles only parking. There was a section just for 30 year and older motorcycles that had old Harleys, Triumphs, three Servi-Cycles, and I saw nice old Hondas and a Norton in pretty good shape. A lot of times the owners were standing close by and you could engage them in conversation about their machines. These collectors like showing off their old bikes are usually pretty happy to tell you all about them. The

show is free, just ride in, park, and enjoy the festival. As soon as someone pulled out of his parking spot, someone else rolled it, so the scene was constantly changing. The side streets had vendors set up along either side and in front of Chesnee Classic Cycles, there was the bandstand, and ‘Zebra’ kept everyone toe-tapping all afternoon. All along the backside were open areas where the swap meet was going on. This was free also, so there were sellers from all over with a huge variety of motorcycle parts, old and new, even whole motorcycles in various conditions. There was also an array of motorcycle gear, apparel, and jewelry vendors with anything you could possibly want, including American, military, and rebel flags! The whole time, there was a slow parade of motorcycles and cars riding up and down Main, taking in all beautiful motorcycles and people watching was in full swing. The festival rides were going on all day, the local eateries were packed out, and the food vendors were busy satisfying the rather large crowds. Dennis Harris of Chesnee Classic Cycles, with support from the City of Chesnee has worked hard to build up this show and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine was glad to be a part of it again this year. “Always the last weekend in July” says Dennis. If you missed it this year, we hope see you there in 2016.

Don Tilley In Sturgis Hall Of Fame By: Alan Dockery ...This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Sturgis Bike Rally with a million bikers converging on the small South Dakota town to celebrate our twowheel lifestyle. Of the many events, one was special to us Carolina riders. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame inducted Don Tilley to the list of honored motorcyclists. Don was a hero to many of us. Don was a hero to many of us for many reasons. As the Harley-Davidson dealer in Statesville, NC, while many of us were getting into motorcycling he was the man who sold and serviced and modified our bikes. Don also made us race fans proud as he built some of the most competitive race bikes of the time. Sadly, we lost this great man in a motorcycle accident about a year ago. This year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held August 5th at The Lodge in Deadwood. Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame Chairman Craig Bailey said the induction ceremony was an emotional event and that he is honored to have been a part of it. Don’s daughter, Donna Tilley accepted the honor. We are honored that she shared her acceptance speech with us. “First I want to say what an honor it is to be here to accept this award for my Daddy! I am the oldest of 3 children. I have a sister, Denise, and a brother, Derek. Unfortunately we all could not be here as we are taking turns taking care of my mother. I want to thank everyone that had anything to do with getting my Daddy inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall Of Fame. I would also like to thank everyone who has showed up here today in honor of my Daddy. He would be proud. I could stand up here all day and talk about my Daddy, but I’m going to try and hit the highlights. My Daddy loved to ride his motorcycle. He put more miles on a motorcycle than anyone I know. My Daddy was a very giving man, he would give you the shirt off his back and he always gave advice on his racing secrets. I said, “Daddy why would you want to do that?” and he always said, “I’m going to beat them anyway.” And he did just that. My Daddy had many great loves; his family, my mama, 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and a great grand daughter he never got to meet who was born Oct 17th. He would have loved her. He would have already had her on the back of his motorcycle.

He had his H-D motorcycle family, his NASCAR family, and he had another family that a lot of people never knew about, his AA family. My Daddy was a very competitive man. We were a racing family. He raced cars back in the 50’s and 60’s and many races and championships. I won his very first championship flat tracking motorcycles when I was 14. Then there were many championships to come: Gene Church, Scott Zampack, Shawn Higbee, Tripp Nobles, and then his racing came full circle back to racing cars. His last championships came with his 2 grandsons, Kyle and Chandler. He could find horsepower that nobody else could find. He loved to go fast on anything - motorcycles, cars, and snowmobiles, anything that had a motor. In 1972 my parents opened up Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville, then in 1999 we opened up a 2nd dealership in Salisbury and both are still going strong. My Daddy was all about charities. In 1995 he co-founded the Kyle Petty Charity Ride (KPCR) with Kyle Petty. He mapped out and led every Kyle Petty Charity Ride for the last 21 years. Kyle Petty called him their own Rand McNally. He was all about helping the kids with the Victory Junction Gang Camp. All Daddy’s memorials went to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. 6000 people attended his memorial. He touched a lot of lives. The last family would be a family he always said saved his life. He mentored so many people through his 45 years in AA. They would call and ask him to speak at meetings, churches, schools, etc. all over. He gave a very good talk. He had a lot to tell. I am so grateful that he did because we now listen to those inspiring tapes. One last thing I would like everyone to know, my Daddy loved to dance with my mama. He was a very good dancer. He turned a lot of heads. Most people just thought he knew how to tune motorcycles, racecars, etc. and go fast. My mama said she does not regret being on the back of that motorcycle because that’s what they did and she loved every minute of it. My mama and Daddy did everything together. So on behalf of my family, Thank You!” “I want to thank the folks who made this happen,” Donna said. “A big thanks to Mike Helton and the NASCAR family for putting me up and taking care of me while in Sturgis. They were really supportive and went to the ceremony, too. Special thanks to Doug and Darla Crown for their support and help.”

By: Kick Start & Donut The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine covered this successful event on 8-8-15 for this young child who is only 10 months old and is fighting a rare skin cancer disease. The parents, Eric and Ashley Brown, contacted Chance Crusaders back in June to help raise money for medical bills. Wyatt at the time was 7 months old. He was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma when he was only 3 months old. The original tumor was on his nose and they found one lymph mode involved under his chin a couple weeks later. He received chemo at Palmetto Children’s Hospital and it was determined the tumor was not responding. His doctor sent him to Huston Hospital for proton radiation and a different chemo treatment. Wyatt is the youngest person to be diagnosed with this rare skin disease. The most recent CAT scan showed no activity anywhere so this was nothing short of a miracle. He will continue all treatment as originally planned. All sponsors donated money to participate in the event. The sponsors were, Blanchard Cat, ARS Towing, Elite Fencing, Kenneth Shulers, Tommy Campbell’s Heating and Air, Irmo Grading and Clearing, and Absolute Towing. The participating businesses on the run were Belles, Mari’s Lake House, Ventures, Hide-A-Ways, Bar of Lexington, Linda Lu’s, Animals, The Shack, Lucky’s, and Southlake Saloon. KSU at noon and LBI at 5 pm. The run started and ended at Southlake Saloon. James Hartsoe played for this event. To help raise money there was a bake sale, jell-o shots and oyster shots were sold, and there was also a 50/50 raffle. All money was donated back to the cause. Shakespeare was the biggest donating supporter for the raffle items. Almost $5000 was raised to help this family. Since the event Wyatt is back at Palmetto Children’s Hospital going through treatment. He has his good days and bad days, but always has a smile on his face. A big “thank you” to everyone who came out to help this awesome little boy!

BidHarley.com Customer Appreciation & Swap Meet By: Chris Smiley The weather couldn’t have been better that Saturday, August 8th and things were really hopping in Statesville, NC, home of the “BidHarley.com” pre-owned motorcycle supercenter, located right on I-40 3 miles west of I-77. As many of you know, BidHarley.com hosts a Customer Appreciation/ Swap Meet type of event at their dealership the 1st part of every month. It’s always a good time with vendors, live music, food, lots of motorcycle enthusiasts, customers, and just folks out for a ride. Everybody is welcome. This is the 3rd one I’ve attended and I always have had a good time, BUT This Saturday was different. The whole gang at BidHarley was on a mission that day and all of the familiar faces were on hand, including some new ones that have been added to complete this great organization and continue with there pursuit of selling bikes and making friends. Susan Nelson and Matt Hilton have joined the team and their efforts could clearly be felt, as this event, special attention was made to try to take care of one of own - Joe Keller.

BIKINI BIKE WASH

Call 704-202-3262 For Vendor & General Information 1426 Northside Dr. Statesville, NC - I-40 Exit 150

Joe has been with Bidharley for a couple of years now and a few months ago wasn’t feeling well. After several trips to the doctor it was decided that Joe needed a somewhat routine procedure to dissolve plaque around his heart. Just as the procedure was to start, doctors discovered something much more serious and Joe was whisked away to Winston-Salem for triple bypass heart surgery. The operation went well, Joe’s feeling much better and recovery is just a long, long process. In an effort to help Joe with his bills, the gang switched up the swap meet a little bit and turned it into a “Dough For Joe” fundraiser! It was awesome! They had a bikini bike wash that was VERY tastefully done to that raise money. They had hamburger or hotdog lunch plates with beans, coleslaw, chips, and drinks, which also raised money. Susan Nelson’s efforts at the event were awesome! She doubled the amount of vendors in attendance and also hustled up a bunch of great gift cards and prizes from vendors and restaurants that were raffled in a 50/50 drawing. Again, that helped raise money. The band Legal Limits with “Bongo” and the boys at the helm were awesome. They cranked out the tunes all afternoon and set the tone for an incredible day. All said and done at the end of the day they raised over $1000 for Joe! It was an amazing day of amazing efforts by amazing people. If you’ve never been to a BidHarley event in the past, you must experience it 1st hand. You’ll love these folks. Their next event is Saturday, September 12th and YES the BidHarley Bikini Girls WILL be there for all of their upcoming events! I know I will be going again!

11th Annual Sunday Bash At Tilley Harley-Davidson Of Statesville

By: Alan Dockery The third Sunday in July was a beautiful day for a party. Hundreds of us rode to Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville, NC, for the 11th Annual Sunday Bash organized by Tilley H-D employee Ronnie Carver. Like most of this summer it was hot and muggy, so a ride to Tilley’s was just the thing to cool us off. Once at the dealership you could get some BBQ and a cold beer or soda for lunch and sit in the shade of the big tent. It is always good to catch up with old friends and make new ones over lunch. Inside the dealership it was cool and there were great deals on bikes, accessories and clothes. Robinette Tilley was at the front desk for a while. It sure is nice to see her at the dealership for events. Lots of people stopped to talk with her and share a smile. Back outside, folks were singing and dancing to the Part Time Blues Band. Sitting quietly on the side was a special guest, World War II veteran Gilbert E. Wessel, from Carmi, Illinois. Now 91 years old, he served in the pacific from 1943 to 1946 Ronnie’s Bike Show featured some cool machines. This year’s winners were: 1st Place - Sherri Holden, from Newton; 2nd Place - David Broome, Charlotte; 3rd Place - Krystal Kipka, Mooresville. Kyle Settlemyer, Taylorsville, took Best of Show. One of the many reasons to visit Tilley H-D for The Sunday Bash was the drawing for the Don Tilley Raffle Bike. Scott Wallace was the lucky man taking home a sweet black 2015 FLHXS Street Glide. Other winners in the raffle included Kurt Delp, $500 Tilley H-D Gift Card; David Mayberry, a Richard and Kyle Petty signed helmet; Corky Carson, Harley-Davidson watch. A big thanks goes out to everyone who bought a ticket in the bike raffle. The proceeds from the Sunday Bash

go to a fantastic cause at Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Tilley H-D staff said, “We thank Ronnie Carver for putting on his 11th Annual Sunday Bash! Thanks to the Statesville H.O.G. Chapter and Rolling Thunder volunteers for all their hard work, for all our vendors, Lancaster’s BBQ for the food and beer, Anna’s Sweet Treats making funnel cakes and icy drinks, The Karney Law Firm, Forty Eight Customs for pinstriping and artwork, The Hooters Girls washing bikes get a special thank you, The Part Time Blues Band always draws a crowd to hear their wonderful music on such a hot day, Thank you for the special song in memory of Don Tilley, The employees at Tilley Harley-Davidson that worked hard the whole day, and thanks to our friends and customers who came out for the 11th Annual Sunday Bash.”

By: Diane Boggs Buck lives in a small town called Marshville, NC where the deer roam, the roosters crow, and horses gallop! He is a good old country boy that loves to ride his Harley every chance he gets! He works hard and plays hard. He loves beer and his wife. Buck goes to all the rallies and loves hanging out with fellow bikers. He rides in a lot of benefit rides, too. Buck is just a good old country boy with a big heart! Buck Morgan’s only birthday wish was to have his biker friends get together and spend the day riding their bikes. About 12 bikes met at 11 am and went to Sweetwater at Lake Wiley and from there to Joker’s in Rock Hill, South Carolina. They enjoyed some great food and cold beverages. What a way to celebrate a birthday, doing what he loves best!

Live To Ride - Ride To Live By: Rose and Lloyd Sunday, August 9th some great friends invited us to ride to Blue Ridge Parkway with them. We had known several of the riders for years, but had never had the chance to ride with them. It was a birthday ride for a friend of theirs that lives in Virginia. We left here early in the morning with 7 bikes, enjoying every minute of the ride in the cool morning air. We met the birthday boy at the Top Of Fancy Gap Restaurant, and then the journey was on. Six couples on 8 bikes headed to Freebourne’s and Stations Inn, stopping along the way for some great pictures. The ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway was a ride every biker dreams of, the curves, the scenery, and great friends. All the bikes were awesome. There were Harleys, Victorys, an Indian, and even a Yamaha. We made it to our destination enjoying some fun with the birthday man. It was a time when a group of adults felt great from the wind therapy and didn’t have a care in the world. We saw a lot of everything, just having silly fun. The ride brought with it a feeling of total peace The best was yet to come. The band playing was Epic Remains. One of the guys asked the band to play “Faithfully”. As they played, he got up in the crowd and took the hand of the

woman he loves, got down on one knee and in front of friends and strangers he ask her to marry him. They danced in celebration of her positive response. These are the days bikers treasure. It was a great ride with great friends and even a little rain, but we all knew that we all “Live To Ride and Ride To Live”.

Michael Lee “ BIG MIKE” Godwin July 16, 1956 - August 13, 2015 By: Kathy Johnson People think their most valuable possessions are their cars or their house. If you’re lucky you know your most valuable possession is family and friends. This article is very painful. It just makes things seem more real. On the 13th of August, Mike was killed in a motorcycle accident. A person failed to yield and hit and killed him. Mike was a father. He had a son, Nick. He also had a mother that was 90 years old. He was a friend to all and a good friend to my husband and myself. He had so many brothers in the Hells Angels MC and was a proud member of the Durham Chapter. A few months ago he brought his mother to Durham. She resides at the coast. During that visit Mike told her he was a Durham Hells Angel and he was just beaming that he got to share that with Private Club With All ABC Permits her. There were so many different things that made Mike happy: his Rd 3 Thursday each month motorcycle, his club, telling stories, a good meal, and of course, all of you, his friends. Mike had so many stories because he had such a Open Daily at Noon full life. I have known him since I was in my 20’s 7304 Hwy 55 S. I don’t ever Fuquay-Varina, NC and remember hearBetween Fuquay & Angier ing him tell me something twice. A

few months ago, my husband Ron, Mike, and I rode to the Angier Bike Fest. I rode with Mike that day on his bike. It was a nice ride, but it took a while and seemed more like a tour. The reason for that was Mike was making sure he pointed things out to you on the way and told you what you were seeing. He would tell me the different buildings, what used to be there, and what was in them then and now. When we arrived all of his brothers from another chapter greeted him and he spent time with them and we spent time with some of our friends that day. We rode back to Durham got some food and then our good bye was, “See you tomorrow.” For Mike, kind was an understatement. If you were having a bad day, he would be there. Some people clear out if your having a bad time, but not Mike. He would show up. I remember when Ron was having the worst day ever and most people would have stayed clear of him that day. Even I wanted to. I was sitting in Ron’s office and there was a knock on the door. It was Mike. I said, “What are you doing here Mike?” His reply, “I know Ron is really having a bad time today and I just wanted to be here for him. A few weeks ago my husband was injured and laid up, but he wanted this bike in Florida badly. He couldn’t go get it. In 2 days time Mike was on his way by train and rode the bike back from Florida for him. When he pulled up in our front yard with the bike he had that great smile on his face. There were rainstorms along the way and of course many stories to tell! There were so many different facets to Mike’s life and all of you reading this are aware of it and will you will miss and be able to hold in your heart and keep a different part of him. My tears have not stopped and I am angry that he was taken from us. The person that hit him JUST FAILED TO YIELD! Of course, that is an understatement. In a matter of seconds that person hurt so many people and changed so many of our lives. You tend to understand when someone passes away but when someone is taken away from you because of another person’s negligence it is much different to cope with. A Memorial Service is planned for August 22nd. Well Mike as you know from your friends AFFA -MLHRmay God hold you in His hands till I see you again. Our love will be with you forever.

Summer Bash 2015 At Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro

By: WildThing In a time-honored tradition, Harley-Davidson of Greensboro’s owner, Mark Wheelihan throws a big mid-summer bash at the Motorcycle Park adjacent to the dealership. July 18th proved to be a great day after a few showers in the late morning skeered a few away! The park was a buzz with activity in the early part of the morning as the sound men, vendors, and dealership staff were setting up tents and cones for parking, and the food trucks were getting set up for service in their spots. Sharee, Marketing and Promotions Director, was bouncing around everywhere, making sure everything was going according to schedule. They were taking registrations for the escorted ride out of the dealership that was leaving at 11 am. It was later reported that it was a wonderful ride out through the Guilford County countryside escorted by five Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies mounted on Harleys with Mark Wheelihan leading thirty plus riders. The Painted Plate was on hand with their crew and the ‘Smokin Caddy’, a Cadillac Eldorado outfitted with Buck Stoves that afforded them grilling space from the trunk, through the body, to the engine compartment. They were smoking up several shoulders of the most delicious BBQ and fixins you ever had. It was a sight to see! Also, there was Taqueria El Azteca & Taco Truck on the lot serving up some tasty tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Over at the dealership, they had several specials going on. You could enter to win a helmet in MotorClothes, a cleaning kit at the Parts Department, and if you downloaded their app, you would be entered to win $1000 gift card. They also passed

out coupons for a free nitrogen conversion. The music line-up this year was an eclectic offering. First on stage was Gary, The One Man Band entertaining the early birds from 11 am till 12:30. Then Carrie Smithey Band came on at 1 and played some real popular tunes until 2:30pm. This year Full Throttle Magazine sponsored a bike show during the Summer Bash. We lined up the bikes on the grass opposite Chunk’s Hawg Haven and hung one of our bright yellow bags on the handlebars of each of the twenty-two bikes entered. Then we invited the people to vote for their favorite bike by putting a can tab in the bag. Renee and Robin at Chunk’s Hawg Haven were happy to sell the cans so folks could vote with the tabs! There was no entry fee and no separate classes, just bring your bike and show it off. We made several calls for folks to wander over and check out the bikes, giving plenty of time for them to drop a can tab or two into the voting bags. We even accepted water bottle caps – just vote. The little rain shower that came along slightly wetting the show bikes made the owners scurry over to dry them off when the sun came back out. At the 2:30 band break, Sharee was on stage conducting a Fitness Bikini Contest. Three lovely young ladies competed for the prize of $500. Tina Varner was the lucky girl to walk away with the crown, sash, and cash! Then it was The Carolinas’ Full Throttle’s turn to take the stage and announce the bike show winners. The Peoples’ Choice plaque was given to Heathen who garnered a tremendous amount of can tabs in the bag on his bright orange 2007 Harley. We asked him to ride it up on the stage and show it off for the entire crowd.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine also offered an Editor’s Choice award that included an Easyrider style photo shoot to be published in the magazine’s September issue. Be sure and check out the spread for Brent Bentley and his gorgeous 2009 Fatbagger. Brent gladly rode his bike up on stage and posed with it, received his plaque, and we asked the Fitness Bikini girls to liven up the pics! Afterthought took the stage and entertained everyone from 4 till 5:30, while the ‘Smokin Caddy’ was still going strong, enticing folks with the heady aroma of BBQ. Billy Leonard brought his nitro fuel Harley drag bike into the Motorcycle Park and proceeded to fire it up. A lot of folks gathered around and had not had the experience of a loud drag bike, or the smell of nitro fuel. They were not disappointed as they took pics with their phones and enjoyed the nitro! It was a really fun day; lots of people came out and enjoyed the camaraderie, music, and good food. Our bike show, the bikini contest, and the morning ride added interesting elements and we were all glad the weather was pretty good. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Cruisin’ Calendar for the next event at Greensboro Harley-Davidson’s Motorcycle Park. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

By: Kelly Wescott Thirteen is indeed a lucky number for Duke’s Children’s Hospital. The 13th Annual Christmas In July Toy Run was held July 18th, 2015. The run, leaving from M & M Leather and Custom Cycle in Fayetteville, is a 70-mile, fully escorted run to the hospital in Durham. With 5 miles of Corvette’s, trikes, bikes, and a trailer full of toys, it is truly a sight to behold! Christmas In July has become one of the premier runs in the area, attracting clubs and riders from all over the state and out of state as well. The event has grown and now includes several bike registrations and dinners (called “Leaderevents”) in the weeks leading up to the actual weekend. Texas Roadhouse hosted a bike and Corvette night, and a portion of the proceeds was donated to Christmas In July. Later that week a bike night was held at Cycle Gear of Fayetteville, pre-registration for the Cape Fear Team Corvette Club was held, with the club voting to donate $ 500 to Christmas In July! Fuller’s Old Fashion BBQ provided food at the 4th Annual “Bike Nite in the Broke” at the Pembroke Wal-Mart, with profits going to the hospital as well. Thanks to you all.

The weekend event begins on Friday night, this year the 17th of July, with a kickstart party at Legends Pub. The Gypsy Women always have a nice spread for dinner, and this year it was hot dogs and burgers, beans, coleslaw, assorted marinated veggies, and cake. Pre-registration for the event brought over 160 participants, all receiving their Heather Blue T-shirt, and 2015 event pin. Music and drinks accompanied the 2 ½ hour event. Saturday morning at 8 am, the event continues at M & M Leather with more registrations, a 50/50 raffle, (which the winner generously donated back to the kids!) and door prizes. Will Winford and Ponce Chavis run the event flawlessly. Everything is planned and well executed. Will is punctual, and shortly before 10, Sergeant J. Yergeau of the Cumberland Co. Sheriff’s Office and POII C. Harrell of Durham City Police Department held a safety briefing for the 274 bikes and 14 Corvettes registered. This year, Durham City PD and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol accompanied the run all the way! We loved that! Thank you gentlemen so much for your time, experience, and coordinating along the way. It was awesome. Along the route-of-travel, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Fayetteville City Police Department, Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, Lillington Police Department, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Fuquay Varina Police Department, Holly Springs Police Department, Apex Police Department, Cary Police Department, Durham County Sheriff’s Office, Durham City Police Department, and Duke Police Department all worked together to insure the safety of the participants. We are forever grateful to you all! Your levels of professionalism and kindness are overwhelming. After the Rider’s Prayer, it was kickstands up, start your engines! Thankfully, The run was uneventful with no incidents or accidents. As the over 470 participants arrived at the hospi-

tal parking garage, Texas Roadhouse (Fayetteville and Durham) was awaiting our arrival with a wonderful BBQ lunch. These wonderful people are always so organized and feed us very quickly. Year after year, they have everything hot and ready as soon as we arrive. Thanks again, it was delicious! As usual, it took quite awhile to unload the mountain of toys into the lobby. The hospital lobby is a colorful place with lots of different colored feathered circles on the ceiling and a large fish tank, all to make the children a bit more comfortable. Some of the staff at the hospital spoke, as well as a family whose child was being treated there. It is really humbling to know that hospitals and staff of this caliber exist. Every year we leave there in awe of what they do, not just for the child, but the family! To see all the bikers, in different club attire donating the many toys and money is wonderful. We welcomed some new clubs this year, The American Sisters from the Sandhills region, and Stunnas # 1, from Greensboro. We hope you had fun and return next year. Returning clubs give us a chance to catch up with each other, and that is fun. This year we had representatives from Boyz II Men from Raleigh, The Chrome Knights, The Submarine Vet’s Club, The Combat Vet’s club, The Borinqueneers, The Buffalo Soldiers, The Steele Angels, and the Freedom Cruisers from Gray’s Creek. It was great to see you all again. Thanks so much for supporting the kids at Duke Children’s Hospital. I personally look forward to seeing you all every year! With two new Corporate Partners this year, the event continues to grow. Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson of Fayetteville, NC and Fuller’s Old Fashion BBQ of Lumberton, NC have become part of the Christmas In July family. Welcome! We thank you. Returning sponsors are many, and very much appreciated, they include The Winford Foundation, Cargill, Parrot Bay Pools, TAIONEMEDIAdotcom, Cycle Works, Double D Productions, JEB Designs, Dan Heiman State Farm, Speed Demon Bar & Grill, Gregory Hunt Builders, M-25 Ministries, Cycle Gear,

Backwoods Customs, and BOB FM, along with those already mentioned, Legends, M & M Leather and Custom Cycles, and Texas Roadhouse. There are also lots of other donors, and we thank you for your donations of monies and/or raffle items. Most importantly, we thank the over 470 participants this year! Without you this ride would not be possible! As always, a huge “thank you” to Will and Ponce and their volunteers for putting this all together every year. The dream has come true! It is a very well organized ride, and event. No detail is left un-planned or un-executed. If you haven’t done this run, you are missing out! Unfortunately the rain did not hold off and many were soaked by the time they returned to Fayetteville. The rain did not dampen our enthusiasm or our spirits. And again…we ate! Delicious BBQ cooked for us by Mary Mathew’s son, Brian. Beans, slaw, and cake, along with soft drinks and ales accompanied the BBQ. The rain interfered with our music this year, but Python was there, ready if it did quit. We Sure wish we could have heard them play again. Our work done, and the rain finally gone, we now turned to the raffle part of the event. Lots, and I mean lots, of door prizes were handed out, ranging from motorcycle parts and accessories, a helmet, a leather vest, Harley-Davidson jewelry and purse, some metal work and other art, lots of gift certificates, t-shirts, hats, and other items. There were limited editions or one of kind items that were auctioned off. If you have not seen Will raffle items, it is a treat. He is very entertaining! Thanks to all, the grand total this year for Duke Children’s Hospital is a whopping $14,670 in donations and $14,175 in toys and gifts, bringing our total contribution to $28,845. In thirteen short years, our group, and supporters have contributed $133,603 in donations, $91,500 in toys and gifts, and $226,233 in total contributions. We are extremely grateful to all who participate in this event and those who make it happen. Put the third Saturday in July 2016 on your calendar right now for The 14th Annual Christmas In July Toy Run. I hope to see you there.

Highway Bill Passes The US Senate With Language De-Funding Motorcycle Only Checkpoints The United States Senate passed a six-year highway bill today (7-31-15) with strong bi-partisan support. The bill includes language that would end federal funding for motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. The bill also contains language defining three-wheeled automobiles, which are currently classified as motorcycles under federal law, as their own class of vehicle. These amendments were included in the final version of the bill due to the tireless efforts of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). Most motorcyclists have no objection with safety checkpoints as a whole. However, we should have an objection to the practice of stopping only motorcycles at roadside checkpoints. There is simply no justification for this practice, and motorcycle-only checkpoints tend not to be fruitful. We need only to look at the large checkpoint that was set up during Rolling Thunder a few years ago to see that. Those conducting the motorcycle-only checkpoint stopped 579 motorcycles over a period of seven hours and managed to write only 11 tickets; only four of which constituted a safety violation. The discriminatory nature of these checkpoints has led states such as California, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina,

and Virginia to prohibit these checkpoints within their borders. Both New Hampshire and Illinois have passed laws prohibiting federal funds from being used to conduct motorcycle-only checkpoints. However, being that motorcyclists travel across state lines on a regular basis, this legislation is important to all motorcyclists regardless of what their particular state does. From a personal standpoint, I support safety checkpoints for all vehicles. If I am on my bike and there is a safety checkpoint stopping all motorists, I will gladly cooperate and subject myself to the brief detention connected with such a stop. What I object to is being singled out from the motoring population as a whole due to the fact that I ride a motorcycle. The language defining three wheeled automobiles as their own class of vehicle is also of great importance to motorcyclists. The MRF worked to include this language in the final bill in order to prevent these vehicles, which are growing in popularity, from being included in motorcycle crash data. Including motor vehicles, which are not actually motorcycles, in the corresponding crash data unfairly skews the data. Some states have addressed this issue in their state code. However, until it is addressed on the federal level we will continue seeing these three-wheeled automobiles included in federal motorcycle crash data. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, which will take it up in the fall. The MRF will continue to work on this bill as it moves through the House. As always, if you have any questions or comments concerning what I have written please do not hesitate to contact me. By: Nicole Erickson, TopFuelHarley.com The NHRA Division 7 race in Sonoma, CA on the weekend of July 24th was not your typical race for Top Fuel Harleys. Rider Tony Ruggiero called it “the craziest weekend of competition ever.” Four bikes entered the race Friday, but on Sunday, only one was able to drive to the finish line. On Friday, Tommy Grimes and Ron Gledhill sped down the track in qualifying, Grimes even taking the number one spot going 6.480 E.T. at 224.36 mph. But after the finish line, Gledhill & Grimes both drifted towards the right wall. Gledhill’s bike ended up driving up the back of Grimes wheelie bar, taking out the parachutes, breaking the body, and actually hitting Grimes. Gledhill became separated from bike and it ended up going into the sand trap and into safety nets, tearing the front of the bike apart. Things did not go much better for rider Tony Ruggiero. On Friday, his bike blew an oil line out of his tank in the burnout box. Saturday, he spun the tires and at the 350 feet mark dropped a hole. At 1150 feet a rod broke, then the cylinders,

then pistons and pretty much everything else. Ruggiero said, the only thing left in all the carnage was a brand new head. Ruggiero’s new Nitro Syndicate teammate, Michael Beland, had a much better weekend. He ended up taking home not one – but two Wallys. He won the Top Fuel Harley category and also the Hot Street Harley category. The West Palm Beach native raced his ’08 Dyna to 12.000 E.T. defeating Denny Alves from El Cerrito, CA. This was also Beland’s first ever Top Fuel Harley competition. Now three teams are working to fix their bikes to run the final event of the season at the NHRA Division 7 race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on November 5th-8th. The Ray Price Motorsports team sends sincere thanks to all their sponsors for their support. Maples’ Ride

By: Joey Maples I’d like to introduce you to a family, whose real life story of multiple tragedies and ongoing difficulty, is met with an amazing grace and peace from the One who they call their Savior, Jesus Christ. Introducing: the Maples: Joey & Robin, and their children: Wesley, Emma, Olivia, and Jordan. “There’s actually three more children that God gave to us”, Joey commented. “Luke is in heaven after his two and a half year battle with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), which is a life-threatening disease without a cure. And we have two, which we were never privileged to know, who died in the womb.” In addition to the Maples loss of a child and two miscarriages, their two

at t h t l l to a to suppor came es at

p a v d ma

youngest children, Olivia Grace and Jordan Lynn, were also diagnosed with CF shortly following their births, and all this, within the first seven years of their marriage. But that’s not the entire story. In the summer of 2007, their home in Benson, built in 1945, caught fire. “Everyone was asleep”, said Joey, who had just gone to bed only an hour earlier. According to one of the firemen who examined the damage afterwards, the fire had to have been burning inside the walls for hours. “They told me that because the house was so old, the walls were made of plaster, and heavily sealed. The window casings were sealed. The windows themselves, many of them were painted shut. The Fire Marshall told Joey that a staple had been stuck in a wire inside the laundry room wall, and that chances are that the smoldering had begun at some point that afternoon. A Benson resident, who worked the late shift, was carpooling home when he accidentally took the wrong road to drop off his friend, when he spotted smoke billowing out of the peaks of The Maples home. Joey exclaimed, “You can call it what you want, but that was Jesus at work in our lives. We were all asleep down stairs only 15 feet away from the laundry room because there was no air conditioning upstairs. When he banged on our door and rang our doorbell ferociously to wake us up, smoke was beginning to seep into the kitchen from the laundry room. God used that guy to save our lives.” The house was halfway destroyed, but the family was safe. The next chapter of the Maples’ story would begin May 9th, 2015, Mother’s Day Weekend. I was scheduled to preach on Sunday morning, May 10th, at a church in Princeton, North Carolina, where I was filling in for the pastor, who had to be out of town. The plan was to travel to my mom’s home, spend Friday night and most of Saturday with her and my siblings, and their families, and then travel back Saturday afternoon so that everyone would be refreshed and ready to go the next morning for our ministry opportunity in Princeton.” Joey remembered telling his wife, Robin, that they needed to be getting everything together and to let the kids know that they would be leaving in about 30 minutes. “The kids were playing around the other side of the house and had been riding

FullThrottleMagazine.com

www.

the four wheeler around the yard. What seemed like a few minutes went by, and then we saw a fire engine turn down the road next to the house.” The rest of the story was like out of a movie scene. Suddenly, we were running toward where the kids were supposed be. I finally reached the scene of what was obviously a four wheeler accident involving my Emma and Olivia.” “When I got to them, they were on the ground and neither of them was moving. They were positioned less than three feet from one another. I fell to my knees, grabbed one hand from each of them, and began praying. The only thing I could find to say was: “God, we need you”. It was awful. Oxygen masks, stretchers, hollering, screaming, ambulances, police, family upset. Just total disbelief that this was happening.” Joey and Robin would spend every day in the hospital, reading their bibles and calling out to God for answers. “It was a roller coaster, in every sense of the word. When you are living from one prayer request to the next, you know you’ve reached a place in your life where God has your undivided attention. It’s a place where you realize that your every breath, your every hope, your every dream, rests in the hands of God. We go through life thinking we’re in control of things. The only thing we’re in control of is the decision to trust Jesus Christ in whatever comes our way. Outside of that, we’re powerless.” Two months of hospitals and rehab centers, countless doctors and nurses, procedures, treatments, a seemingly endless number of medicines, and many answers to prayer have the Maples back at home. And yes, they are all still singing. “The first Sunday we were back at home in Benson, one of our music directors asked us if we could sing. And on June 28th, exactly seven weeks and one day since the accident, all six of the Maples, including Olivia Grace, stood on the platform of their church and sang a song, entitled: “He Knows My Name”. On the first Saturday morning of August, the Maples were the beneficiaries of a motorcycle ride fundraising event in Dunn, NC. “After an event like this, you expect some degree of medical bills”, said Joey. “The Ride fundraiser amazed me. People who we didn’t even know showed up to support our family. It was unbelievable.” And while the fundraiser didn’t come close to tackling all the medical expenses, the ride helped to almost completely take care of the cost of the two ambulances that assisted in transporting Emma and Olivia to the hospital. I was stunned when we got the final total of what had been raised. Just amazing. I can’t say enough how much it meant to us for people who love us, and even total strangers, saw it in their heart to help. Unbelievable.” What a true-life story of faith! The Maples can be followed at www.Facebook.com/MaplesMinistries. Their ministry website is at www.MaplesMinistries.com “The entire Maples family would like to thank everyone for their efforts in making the Maples’ Ride a tremendous success.” There were so many involved, there is no way to NOT leave someone out. In closing, keep riding because it matters more than you know!

DOC Bail Bonds Opening The Doors To Your Future

Story by Angie Bradley Some businesses you hope you never need, but when you do, you want someone folks trust to do the best job for you. DOC Bail Bonds in Statesville, NC, was established in August 2008 by Donny Bradley, AKA DOC. Donny Started DOC Bail Bonds with a vision to help people. We not only offer a bail bond service, but also have drug and alcohol counseling plus a job board. “We believe that just because someone was arrested does not necessarily mean they are bad people,” Donny said. “Everyone makes mistakes. We are not just getting people out of jail, but we also make sure they are present for court and try to help them find jobs or just better their lives. Our job starts when they’re released.” The job board is always updated with companies willing to give felons a second chance. Our staff knows how difficult the experience can be for family members and children. We have

an area with toys and coloring books to occupy the children during the process. All of our agents have the same vision and desire to help people. Plus we all ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles on our down time. It’s a great stress reliever. Donny is a veteran who served eight years in the US Army Special Forces. He has sat on the board of directors of the North Carolina Bail Agents Association for six years. He is very passionate about bail bonding and always keeps up with the changing laws. Bail Agents provide a valuable service, protecting citizens and saving governments millions of dollars a year in jailing costs. The fact that the bonded arrestee is not spending his or her pre-trial time is jail is a real saving for taxpayers. It cost up to $72 a day to house and feed every inmate sitting in a cell. “We do searches on several state and federal sites to see a person’s history in terms of jumping bail or failure to appear,” Donny said. “We are always working diligently to minimize the risk. If you jump bond one time, no one will bond you. We keep a close eye on our clients with weekly and monthly check in and they must contact us with any changes in phone numbers or address.” “There is a lot to consider when you decide to bail someone out, not just the percentage. Keep in mind that if you jump bail you are responsible for all expenses it cost us to re-arrest you. DOC Bail Bonding is here to help you. We offer financing for those who qualify.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

On the first day of school, the children brought gifts for their teacher. The supermarket manager’s daughter brought the teacher a basket of assorted fruit. The florist’s son brought the teacher a bouquet of flowers. The candy-store owner’s daughter gave the teacher a pretty box of candy. Then the liquor-store owner’s son brought up a big, heavy box. The teacher lifted it up and noticed that it was leaking a little bit. She touched a drop of the liquid with her finger and tasted it. “Is it wine she guessed “? “No,” the boy replied. She tasted another drop and asked, “Champagne?” “No,” said the little boy...”It’s a puppy!”

meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. Besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way.” So he continued on his way. However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition. Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the weatherman at once! Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of royal forecaster. The farmer said, “Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey’s ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain.” So the king hired the donkey. And so began the practice of hiring asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential positions.

A young Jewish man walks into the Lingerie Department of Macy’s in New York. He tells the saleslady, “I would like a Jewish bra for my wife size 34 B.” With a quizzical look the saleslady asked, “What kind of bra?” He repeated, “A Jewish bra. She said to tell you that she wanted a Jewish bra, and that you would know what she wanted.” “Ah, now I remember,” said the saleslady. “We don’t get as many requests for them as we used to. Most of our customers lately want the Catholic bra, or the Salvation Army bra, or the Presbyterian bra.” Confused, and a little flustered, the man asked, “So, what are the differences?” The saleslady responded. “It is all really quite simple. The Catholic bra supports the masses, the Salvation Army lifts up the fallen, and the Presbyterian bra keeps them staunch and upright.” He mused on that information for a minute and said: “Hmm. I know I’ll regret asking, but what does the Jewish bra do?” “Ah, the Jewish bra,” she replied “makes mountains out of molehills.

I got off work, went out to my car, hit the button for the doors on my remote unlocker – as usual. Nothing happened. I tried it a few more times, battery must be dead. I stand there for 10 minutes, mashing the little button, hoping for enough juice to open the doors. Nada. I call a locksmith; explain that I’m locked out of my car. He says he’ll be right over. Twenty minutes later he arrives. He walks up with his tools, inserts a thing that looks like a blood pressure cuff in the doorjamb. He starts making conversation as it inflates, pushing the door open: “So locked your keys in the car? No problem sir, I’ll have it open in a minute.” “No, my keys are right here, my key fob is dead,” I replied. The locksmith stops for about 10 seconds and doesn’t say a word. He sees my keys in my hands, takes them from me, inserts them in the lock and opens the door. Then he started laughing and told me there would be no charge, the story he’d have to tell was worth the drive out.

A police officer called the station on his radio.
“I have an interesting case here. An old lady shot her husband for stepping on the floor she just mopped.” “Have you arrested the woman?” “Not yet. The floor’s still wet.” Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing. He called the royal weather forecaster and enquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours. The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days. So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, “Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area”. The king was polite and considerate, he replied: “I hold the palace

She was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only the t-shirt that she normally slept in. As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, “You’ve got to make love to me this very moment!” My eyes lit up and I thought, “I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day.” Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then gave it my all; right there on the kitchen table. Afterwards, she said, “Thanks,” and returned to the stove, her t-shirt still around her neck. Happy, but a little puzzled, I asked, “What was that all about?” She explained, “The egg timer is broken.” A passenger in a taxi heading for Penn Station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said, “Are you OK? I’m so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me.” The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said, “I didn’t realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly.” The driver replied, “No, no, I’m the one who is sorry, it’s entirely my fault. “Today is my very first day driving a cab. I’ve been driving a hearse for 25 years.”

The people at Starbucks managed to arrange a meeting with the Pope at the Vatican. After receiving the papal blessing, the Starbucks official whispers, “Your Eminence, we have an offer for you. Starbucks is prepared to donate $100 million to the church if you change the Lord’s Prayer from ‘give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘give us this day our daily coffee.’” The Pope responds, “That is impossible. The prayer is the word of the Lord. It must not be changed.” “Well,” says the Starbucks man, “we anticipated your reluctance. For this reason we will increase our offer to $300 million.” “My son, it is impossible. For the prayer is the word of the Lord, and it must not be changed.” The Starbucks guy says, “Your Holiness, we at Starbucks respect your adherence to the faith, but we do have one final offer...We will donate $500 million - that’s half a billion dollars - to the great Catholic Church if you would only change the Lord’s Prayer from ‘give us this day our daily bread’ to ‘give us this day our daily coffee.’ Please consider it.” And he leaves. The next day the Pope convenes the College of Cardinals. “There is some good news,” he announces, “and some bad news. The good news is that the Church will come into $500 million. “And the bad news, your Holiness?” asks a Cardinal. “We’re losing the Wonder Bread account!

Early Gift Giving I attend His Laboring Few Biker Ministry of Jesus Christ (www.hlfm.org ) and play drums on the Praise Team. For the last several months I’ve noticed an envelope sitting on a storage box behind the stage. It said, “Merry Christmas, open soon”. Well, after 8 months of seeing it every week, I decided to open it. After all, it wasn’t addressed to anyone and didn’t have any name at all on it to identify the giver. Well, I opened it and, to my surprise, there was a $2 bill inside. I immediately knew who it was from as one of the elders of the ministry is known for doing this during the Christmas season. With all the “lives matter” unrest going on in the country the Spirit said, “Biker lives matter, too!” The word of God says in the book of Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear My voice I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with Me.” This is the free Gift. Just like the card with the cash in it, all we have to do reach out, make the first move, and He will do the rest. Salvation is a free Gift. All we have to do is accept it. Please find a church to attend that preaches the whole Word of God - nothing watered down. Please feel free to visit with His Laboring Few Biker Ministry on Sunday mornings at 10 am. We are at 812 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Thomasville, NC. Ride free. Ride saved.

Rollin’ On The River At Riders’ Roost Story and photo by Alan Dockery When you get tired of summer heat and riding in 100º air just doesn’t cool you off, point your front tire to Riders’ Roost in Ferguson, NC. The first August party was Rollin’ On The River and a great way to chill out for the weekend. Some folks took off to ride the mountains Saturday since so many great roads are nearby. The rest of us relaxed in the shade or lay in the creek. Elk Creek water level, flow and temperature was just right that weekend for those of us who love the water. Late afternoon when most folks were out of the creek, Dave and Steve got back in for the Duck Race. For a Buck a Duck you could bet on one to be the quickest down the creek. So many folks bought so many ducks that they had to number 20 more. After a couple heat races and the main, Tin Cup won a couple hundred bucks of credit for Riders’ Roost rental and items. Woooo !!! After the Duck Race it was suppertime and Dave and Pam laid down a great barbequed chicken plate. The quietest time of the weekend was when we were all chowin’ down on chicken. That evening was the annual Roost Idol Karaoke Contest. Congrats to Steve Jones, the winner. “We would like to thank everyone who came out for our Riders’ Roost Charities, Inc. fundraising weekend which is called Rollin’ On The River,” Pam said. “Through our

Dunk A Beard

By: Trisha Beasley The morning began with all “Beards” in attendance and preparing for the day. Cape Beard: FOF (Follicles of Freedom) Beard and Moustache Club were certainly in the house at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. Cape Beard: FOF Club is notorious for their charitable efforts in and around the Cumberland County area. The club continues to strive for wholesome community involvement, building local community supports, as well as supporting local merchants and vendors. The good deeds of this club were witnessed once again on Saturday, August 1, 2015. This event “Dunk a Beard” was held to support Fayetteville Hyperbarics operated by John and Denise Mercabo. Several activities were ongoing throughout the day. These consisted of donations, raffle, local businesses and vendors, and last but certainly not least, the Dunk A Beard festivities. The dunking booths were very befitting the cause as hyperbaric treatment is referred to as “taking a dive.” The Cape Beard: FOF members sat in the dunking booths waiting for the crowd to force them to take a dive of their own! Three dunking booths lined in a row, and for one dollar you received three chances to dunk your favorite Beard.

Hyperbarics or hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a procedure in which oxygen levels are increased to maximize the amount of oxygen received to the patient. During this procedure, the air pressure is increased to three times higher than normal air pressure. This treatment takes place in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber. The treatment was originally used for decompression sickness, gas gangrene and carbon monoxide poisoning. Recently research shows the possibility that HBOT may also have value in the treatment of other conditions such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and autism, However, more studies are ongoing to determine to correlation. We are hopeful that these studies result in more effective treatment and increase prognosis for our friends and neighbors. Cape Beard: FOF has offered their support for this cause. Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson is commended by Cape Beard for their hospitality and rendering of their facility to assist in this fundraiser. The Cape Beard: FOF Club’s work on this day was to raise funds to assist patients in need of Fayetteville Hyperbarics services. All proceeds from the day’s events go to the “Chambers For Hope” fund, which assists with hyperbarics treatment for those patients that have no funding, no insurance coverage, or others with limited resources. The day was successful, the crowd was excited, and the Beards were wet! It is surely an awesome feeling to be surrounded by the humble, happy, and helpful Cape Beard: FOF Beard and Moustache Club. The club extends a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who worked and played to make the event a success. We all look forward to their next event because everyone knows the cause will be great and the enthusiasm of Cape Beard: FOF will be grand! They ask that you join them for Beardtober Fest on October 17th at the Rock Shop in Fayetteville, NC.

Rocking With The Troops By: Grant Eagle Saturday, July 18th Tilley Harley-Davidson held their Rocking With The Troops in Salisbury. I must say there was a very nice crowd featuring up and coming country music star Tammy Davis, Rowan Veterans Honor Guard, military displays, and of course, free adult beverages and food. A steady stream of volunteers from Tilley’s and Salisbury HOG kept the food hot and plentiful. On hand were Blue Star Mothers of America from the area. If you are not familiar with Blue Star Mothers of America, here is a short overview from their web site www.BlueStarMothers.org: We are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard, or reserves, or children who are veterans. We support each other and our children while promoting patriotism. Our organization focuses on our mission every single day and will never, ever, forsake our troops, our veterans, or the families of our Fallen Heroes. We have over 6,000 members in over 200 chapters throughout the nation. Blue Star Mothers of America is a wonderful organization

and we were truly honored to have some of them on hand. A short ceremony was conducted and names of veterans were announced. Taps was played and a 21-gun salute was offered to salute their memories. Tammy Davis did a great rendition of Star Spangled Banner for us as well. Yes, it’s summer in the Carolinas and a short burst of rain tried to slow us down, but the party continued until the 50/50 was announced. Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury is hosting a Veterans’ Voice meeting the first Monday of each month with guest speakers and refreshments and coffee for veterans who may be returning home. The old school guys like me will be on hand to meet and greet each other and find information they may need. Please join us if you can. Everyone is welcome. I am sure Tilley’s as well as the Salisbury Harley Owners Group would like to say “Thank you for your service” to all veterans. You can get all updates to events at TilleyHD.com for both stores and local info at Salisbury HOG on Facebook. I want to say “Thank You” Tilley Harley-Davidson of Salisbury for caring about our veterans. God Bless you and God Bless our United States.

Steele Angels Back To School Poker Run By: Wendy Rogers “Breezy” The Steele Angels held their Back To School Poker Run on Saturday, August 1st but this year they did it up a little different, they had a poker run. Usually the run will go from point A to point B, but they decided to change it up. It started at noon at Legend’s Pub in Fayetteville; the stops all included Ft. Bragg Harley-Davidson, Louie’s Pub, PK’s (old Aviators in Raeford) Firehouse in St Paul’s and JB’s in Hope Mills. You could sign up and join in from any of these locations. This helps the participants to join in and be able to make a complete trip without having to back track. You got to pick a total of 6 cards and were able to throw out a card of your choice. That gave you a better chance of getting a good hand. The best hand paid out a $75 bar tab at Legend’s and a nice gift bag. The next to best hand also won a $75 bar tab and a gift bag. Then, there was a worst hand with a $25 tab at Legends with a nice gift bag. A winner for the lady with the most Queens and a winner for the man with the most Kings also received a nice gift bag. There was an auction, which included 2 of the M & M stands, a helmet, PBR glasses, and other great items along with many great door prizes. The food buffet featured delicious fried chicken and many, many side items. You would not leave there hungry.

The registration fee was $10 a hand or a donation of school supplies. The school system in North Carolina is not all that great for supplying children with what they need. A lot of it has to come out of the teachers pockets, therefore the Steele Angels started this Back To School Run 10 years ago when there were very few, if any at all, doing this kind of function and it has really grown into an event that many groups and organizations are contributing to now. Cumberland County started an account, which is actually named the Steele Angel account, not for only the Steele Angels to contribute to, but it gets other funds from different organizations and it helps aid the children in special emergency times all during the year. It is really sad for the children that almost have to go without, and helping supply the county with help, will help some children get what they need to go to school and learn. This organization gives to Cumberland and other surrounding counties. Thank everybody who has sponsored or participated in this functions, it is a very good cause and it is making a difference. Be sure to join the STEELE ANGELS for their 12th Annual TOY RUN, which will be on Saturday November 21st this year. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for future events.

Rider’s In The Country By: Rose and Lloyd If you have lived in the Triad area for any length of time, I am sure you have heard of Rider’s In The Country. Heck, some of you may have met and fallen in love with your spouse at Rider’s In The Country. There is a lot that people don’t realize about George Rider, the sole owner and operator of Rider’s In The Country for 27 years. In 1985 he opened on Hwy 29 at North Gate Inn called G. Rider’s Night Life. In 1987 he opened G. Rider’s In The Night at South Gate Inn. In 1986, he meet and married Sharon Rider, together they ran the two bars. It was her inspiration and ambition to open Rider’s In The Country in 1988 at 5701 Randleman Road in Randleman, NC. With Sharon’s smiling personality and George’s hard work, Rider’s In The Country quickly made a name for itself. When asked how he has maintained a successful bar when others have gone by the wayside, his comment was, “Hard work, good customers and friends, and a great staff”. Very few nights in 27 years has George not been there to greet each and every person. In my opinion George Rider has always been a part of the night. He has been the host to some big time names such as Clarence Carter, Tracy Lawrence, Doc Holiday, Robin Lee, Barrett of Mississippi, Kentucky Head Hunters, and Little Texas. He is also host to some of the best bands of today in this

If you have never been, Thursday night is Karaoke night with Daniel Day Karaoke. Families and bikers are welcome, and there is always an abundance of food. Friday and Saturday are band nights with a $5 cover charge. On Friday night, if you are a biker and bring in your helmet, there is no cover charge. Rider’s In The Country also has a video game room, pool tables, and the biggest dance floor around. George has always opened his doors and heart to many causes and benefits, more than I could ever recall. If you have never been to Rider’s In The Country, check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine or RidersInTheCountry. net for upcoming events. So come on out and spend a night with an icon and enjoy a night of great entertainment.

Team Chad Poker Run

2015 FALL RALLY

SEPT 28 - OCT 4 Bar Opens Friday Sept 25th

MOTORCYCLE RODEO Oct 1, 2, 3 @ 2pm

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT October 2 & 3

By: Caroline I had the opportunity to meet Debbie Edwards and her son, Caleb on July 25th and talk to them about the huge undertaking of raising funds for their husband and father, Chad Edwards. Chad suffers from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) since 2005. He has become stable through medications and is now a candidate for a bi lateral lung transplant at Duke Medical Center. As you can imagine, a surgery of this type will prove to be costly to the family. In addition to the medical costs, the family will have to relocate to Durham during the procedure. They have been involved with many fund raising events, but this Saturday, they hosted a poker run at Smokin’ HarleyDavidson. Afterwards, the riders met back at Smokin’ and were treated to a hot dog lunch, entertainment, and an auction. Local talent, Jason Leake, Billy Creason, and Mark Church took to the stage to sing and play for everyone. I hope that folks reading this will continue to support this d only event they will family, as I am sure this will not be Anthe have. You can also help directly by donating a tax-deductible gift to Team Chad at any First Citizens Bank.

Waco Judge Rules Being In A Club Is A Crime?

By: David “Double D” Devereaux The first examining trial related to the Waco shooting concluded with the judge finding sufficient probable cause for the arrest and charge of a married couple present at the Twin Peaks on May 17, 2015. There was no evidence presented of either individual committing an actual crime. The judge found probable cause to arrest Mr. And Mrs. English as parties engaging in organized criminal activity. Their association with one of these groups, displayed through a support patch, was determined to be sufficient probable cause to send the question to a grand jury to consider an indictment. It was also asserted that members of criminal street gangs do not have the legal right to carry weapons even if they have a concealed carry permit. I find this decision disturbing. Although just an examination trial, not the criminal trial, based on this logic members of legal associations can be charged with organized criminal activity based on others actions, with no evidence that they actually participated in a crime. Law enforcement nationwide has been influenced by Waco; some conducting militarized police operations in response to clubs simply riding through town. The implications for the 1st Amendment should be obvious and they are not positive. WHAT WACO COURT CONSIDERS PROBABLE CAUSE Against much case precedent, the Waco court has concluded that alleged membership in an organization that law enforcement labels as a gang is sufficient to establish probable cause for an arrest for organized criminal activity even if there is no evidence showing involvement in criminal activity. “Department of Public Safety Lt. Steven Schwartz, a 17-year department veteran, testified at the morning hearing that William and Morgan English wore patches that identified them as members of a group called Distorted. Another patch identified them as members of a support group for the Bandidos, which Schwartz said has been identified as a criminal street gang. He said he thinks the Englishes were aware of the rift between the Cossacks and Bandidos and they were there that day as a show of support for the Bandidos.” “Schwartz said they wore patches that said they support the Bandidos, so that tells him they are at least “somewhat involved in criminal activity.” He said he saw nothing that day and has developed no subsequent evidence to show the Englishes are involved in criminal activity.” Notice the defendant’s knowledge of tensions helped establish probable cause. But consider the fact that knowledge of alleged tension between these clubs in Texas was common and even reported by the media. Knowledge of a rumor on the street or in the media is now sufficient to determine participation in organized criminal activity? APPLYING THE COURT’S LOGIC TO THE REST OF SOCIETY Does this mean a Seahawks fan with a jersey and knowledge of tension with Denver fans could land in jail, charged with

organized criminal activity and a $1 million bond, if they go to a Denver/Seattle game and a Broncos fan gets hurt by another fan wearing a Seahawks jersey? Sounds unreal. And it should be. But that’s what this decision means for motorcycle clubs. Disturbingly, Lt. Schwartz also asserted during testimony that members of criminal street gangs cannot legally carry weapons. Tommy Witherspoon, covering the trial on Twitter, posted “Schwartz said membership in a criminal street gang prohibits one from having a legal concealed handgun license.” Remember, these individuals possess legal concealed carry permits and have passed extensive background checks. This is further proof of the attempt to disarm motorcycle clubs. Almost every large organization has members that commit crimes. This is true of motorcycle clubs, law enforcement agencies, city councils, state legislatures, U.S. Congress, sports teams, churches, schools, fraternities, sororities, corporations, investment groups, nonprofits, many political groups, and just about every other large group or community. But the actions of the few do not define the whole group. If mere membership or affiliation with an organization where someone else commits a crime is sufficient to establish probable cause for organized criminal activity and prohibit gun ownership, imagine the chilling effect that could have on not only motorcycle clubs but society at large. Fear of prosecution could deter membership in organizations across the board, particularly those critical of government and law enforcement abuse. Other progressive organizations for change, often in opposition to government abuse and policy, could find themselves any easy target for organized criminal activity prosecutions. It’s an effective method to dismantle a grassroots social or political movement. Motorcycle clubs will be presumed criminal organizations and the rights of members will be severely restricted. It will be easier to arrest and prosecute club members. Club members with no criminal records will no longer be able to carry concealed weapons legally. Membership will be considered sufficient to establish reasonable suspicion and probable cause that a crime is occurring or will likely occur. It’s not a matter of if or when. This is happening now. This threat should galvanize us to fight for legislative and judicial relief against discriminatory law enforcement targeting motorcycle clubs. Only through unification, organization, and political action can motorcycle clubs survive the current onslaught targeting our community. Everything from the trademarks of club patches to gun ownership are under attack. Clubs will either unite on common ground or many clubs will cease to exist. Newton Motorcycle, Truck And Car Show Classic Story and photo by Alan Dockery There are lots of thing to love about our little town of Newton, NC, and high on the list is the annual Motorcycle, Truck and Car Show Classic. Traditionally the end of July, it’s a relaxed afternoon hanging out in the shade at Southside Park and talking about the vehicles we brought. All Bikers are welcome. When they can get enough people motivated to leave the shade and play, they do bike games, Harley riders versus sport bike riders. There’s even a dyno shoot out with free runs. Cruisers: 1st Place - Ralph Geidel with 102 HP, 2nd Place - Tate Holler with 76 HP. This year the guys from Bid Harley in Statesville did well in the bike show.
