A film noir thriller with added beartastic facts and revenge songs. Angela is a solicitor’s clerk. She works with the defence team during criminal trials. The job brings her face to face with people accused of GBH, rape and murder. In the cells under the Old Bailey, Angela meets her client who is on trial for murder. “I didn’t do it.” He says. “The Bear did it.” He’s obviously lying. Or mad. This is London after all. But when she examines all the evidence, reads all the files, there it is again. The bear. Someone else saw it. Without quite knowing why, Angela finds herself hunting the bear. Until she discovers the bear is hunting her. A taut, tense and funny show about an everyday murder and a mythic bear.

Snap.Catch.Slam Written by Emma Jowett Directed by Ben Caplan

This is a raw, emotionally-charged piece of intimate storytelling that focuses on three devastating moments that change the characters’ lives forever. Snap is inspired by the true story of a teacher who physically attacked a troublesome pupil in 2010. Catch is inspired by a 2008 newspaper image showing a baby being dropped from the third storey of a burning apartment. In Slam, Karen’s head injury leaves her with a memory that wipes itself clean every few minutes. The three narratives interweave in an electrifying portrayal of the fragility of human life.

The Condition of the Working Class

Directed by Mike Wayne and Deirdre O’Neill

Everything changes and yet everything stays the same. In 2012 a group of working people from Manchester and Salford come together to devise a theatrical show from scratch based on their own experiences and Engels’ classic 1844 book, The Condition of the Working Class in England. This film follows the process from first rehearsal to first night, a mere eight weeks later and situates their struggle to get the show on stage in the context of the daily struggles of working people facing economic crisis and austerity politics. Screening to be followed by a Q&A with the directors.

What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes…” Edmund Dantès finds himself wrongfully imprisoned within an impenetrable fortress, the infamous prison Château D’if. A lifetime of isolation awaits, but a chance escape quenches Edmund’s thirst for vengeance. The hero is now the villain, and the villain will have his revenge.

Cosmopolitan Players present

The Vicar of Dibley When their vicar passed away in the middle of a service, the inhabitants of the small village of Dibley expected his replacement to be another old man with a beard, a Bible and bad breath. Instead, they got Geraldine Granger, a woman who enjoys nothing more than a good laugh and a packet of chocolate HobNobs. The thoroughly modern, pop music-loving vicar is far from the only eccentric character in the village. Cosmopolitan Players serve up three hilarious episodes from one of the most popular TV sit-coms, The Vicar of Dibley – Songs of Praise, Radio Dibley and Celebrity Vicar.

Up ‘n’ Under II Eight months ago, The Wheatsheaf Arms, a team of hopeless, out of shape underdogs, took on the ‘unbeatable’ Cobblers in a game of rugby. Many said it couldn’t be done... and they were right. Now their story continues in Up ‘n Under II with a rematch. Training is underway but morale is dipping and cracks in friendships are beginning to show as the team realise what a huge mistake they may have made. A perfect mix of Rocky and Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, this is John Godber’s love letter to rugby, northern humour and Yorkshire. Up ‘n’ Under II is a wholly standalone story and does not require any knowledge or viewing of the original play.

Hard Times

Following the award-winning production of The Sound of Music in 2012, LIDOS are back with another of the best known musicals of all time, packed with familiar songs and characters. Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination.

Jaye is going it alone for the first time. It’s fine. She’s confident that she can do it. She’s an independent, modern woman! She knows how to read a map. She can follow flat-pack instructions. She can probably wire a plug, she’s done it before. But she can’t do this show alone. She really needs you. One is a funny, gently interactive solo performance about being alone and not being lonely. by Charles Dickens

Come with us to the cotton mills of Coketown in 1840, to the heart of the industrial north west in the darkest days of the Industrial Revolution. Where poverty is always knocking on the weavers’ door while their boss lives in a mansion on the hill. Where in Thomas Gradgrind’s School for Boys and Girls the harsh philosophy of facts and nothing but facts rules the day. But where, amongst the smoking chimneys and the crashing looms, is imagination to be found? And where is there room for love? Paper Zoo recreate Dicken’s classic tale with their trademark blend of humour and visual inventiveness.

Sliding panels, mysterious noises in the night, an almost lethal staircase and a nice little bit of romance are some of the main ingredients of this timeless farce, which was listed in the National Theatres’ top 100 plays.
