January – April 2015

Welcome to Spring at Carriageworks Theatre Carriageworks Theatre brings you a blooming bunch of productions this Spring and we’ve picked out a few beauties we think are best in show. Cult classic Jekyll & Hyde stalks the night 16 Feb. Spotted at the Edinburgh Fringe, On The Run theatre company’s So It Goes (26 March) presents the beauty of raw emotion. Put a spring in your step and catch The Origin of Species… (31 Jan) and Jonny & the Baptists (16 Apr) showering Leeds with musical comedy. Family shows abound this season with The Duck in the Truck (17 Feb) in February half term and Goldilocks and the Three Bears (14 Apr) as an Easter treat. We are delighted to be working with long-standing local company Red Ladder on their awe-inspiring family event Nicobobinus (27-28 Feb) based on Monty Python’s own Terry Jones’ children’s book.

United We Stand A powerful new play based on the true story of one of the most turbulent industrial battles – the 1972 Builders’ Strike. By the 1970s the UK’s building companies were making millions re-building the country, whilst building workers faced the most dangerous working conditions and poorest wages of any trade. In the summer of ’72, building workers launched their industry’s first national all-out strike. The events surrounding the strike are still making headlines to this day, and forty two years on, the high-profile Shrewsbury 24 Campaign, led by picket turned actor, Ricky Tomlinson, is still seeking to overturn the unjust prosecution of the 24 building workers. United We Stand tells the story behind the dispute in a way that is both compelling and thought-provoking.

Carriageworks Theatre:

Child Friendly Leeds

A unique business and events destination

People of all ages are welcome at Carriageworks Theatre. We take pride in being a Child Friendly Venue. Below are some of the steps we take to be as accessible for children and young people as we can.

In addition to the 349 seater Main Auditorium, a further six meeting rooms are available for conferencing, meetings and workshops, accommodating various numbers of delegates. All conference rooms provide AV equipment, air conditioning and support from a dedicated commercial team. Three of the six meeting rooms are situated in the historic part of the old Carriageworks development. These attractive meeting spaces reveal exposed brickwork and roof beams in keeping with the Victorian architecture whilst providing a light and airy studio feel. These rooms are also available to hire for evening rehearsals, special occasions, workshops and classes at a reasonable competitive rate. Please call 0113 395 2157 or email carriageworksvenue@leeds.gov.uk for more information.
