Carriageworks Theatre is a place where old meets new. Built as a carriage manufacturer in 1848, the Victorian building has since been reimagined as a cultural hub in the city centre. There’s always space to play, laugh, discover and create. No summer would be complete without a festival, and this season we’re delighted to host not one, but three. Ilkley Literature Festival present their weekend of poetry and spoken word to Leeds for the first time. Words in the City brings together a diverse, exciting collection of voices to celebrate the magic and power of poetry. Little Feet Festival is having a party, and you’re invited! This year will be the fifth Little Feet Festival of Children’s Theatre and we are delighted to bring it to Leeds for the first time. Families can enjoy a child-friendly atmosphere and see some of the best touring theatre for children and young people. The Northern Short Story Festival is the only festival of its kind in the North. Back for 2018, popular and published authors, editors and small press publishers come together to share their stories, expertise and wisdom. We look forward to seeing you at the Carriageworks Theatre soon!
The Venue We have two performance spaces. Inside the Main Auditorium you can expect a range of shows to inspire and entertain, from imaginative new plays to inventive adaptations of popular stories. The Studio is a cosy black box performance space and the perfect place to catch new innovative theatre, rising comedy stars and intimate gigs.
Look out for Leeds CAN Leeds Community Arts Network (Leeds CAN) is a group of 14 community drama, musical, opera, youth theatre and other arts societies. Jonny & The Baptists: The World is a Mess, Here are Some Songs THE STUDIO
It’s very hard to tour topical material these days. For multi-award-nominated musical comedy stars Jonny & The Baptists, it’s been a real nightmare. Every time they try to write something silly about the world, the world does something even sillier. Either way, this summer they’re coming to Leeds with lots of new songs (and some old ones) to try to make sense of the mess.

Offside THE STUDIO
3 Centuries. 1 Goal. A glorious tale of struggle and sweat. Heart thumping with oxygenised blood, adrenalin flooding every little bit of me and every little bit of me is every little bit of the field in front of me. It is 1892. It is 1921. It is 2018. Four women from across the centuries live, breathe, and play football. Whilst each of them face very different obstacles, the possibility that the beautiful game will change their futures – and the world – is tantalisingly close. Offside is told through lyrical dialogue, poetry, and punchy prose, placing the audience on the touchline of the game of a lifetime.
