Henrik Ibsen’s

Light Night

Ghosts

Run away to the Light Night Circus!

Adapted by Alfred Enoch from William Archer’s translation ‘Whenever I take up a newspaper, I seem to see ghosts gliding between the lines.’ Helen Alving is trapped in a world where the ‘dead ideas’ preached by Pastor Manders rule outright, and her own family’s insidious legacy threatens scandal. She is desperately trying to conceal her husband’s philandering past by building an orphanage in his name, under the pastor’s guiding hand. But the celebrated return of her estranged son Oswald brings Helen’s ghosts back to haunt her and all hopes of success are reduced to ashes.

Though penned in 1881, it is not hard for us to see the parallels in our own society; the pious leaders of the past replaced with our own custodians of the status quo, and money their new religion. Alfred Enoch, best known for playing Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter franchise, masterfully adapts Ibsen’s Ghosts for it’s Autumn tour 2013. Following sell-out tours of Spring Awakening, A Midsummer Nights Dream and Lord of the Flies, Sell a Door Theatre Company conclude their 2013 touring season with this exciting adaptation of one of Henrik Ibsen’s greatest works.

Pinocchio

Shakespeare in Terror

Leeds Children’s Theatre bring this family favourite back to the Leeds stage where you can enjoy this timeless story of the wooden puppet who must earn the right to fulfil his longing to be a real boy. This charmingly innocent yet powerfully believable play brilliantly conveys lessons of responsibility and respect for the feelings of others. It may be 120 years since Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio was first published but it remains a wonderful magical adventure story for young people of six and over, their friends, families and teachers. An amateur production by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.

You’ve seen him in love, but what about terror? A quick soliloquy with a skull is not always the answer, as our hapless bard – dumbstruck by writer’s block – discovers in a chance meeting with a certain ‘Guido Fawkes’, arguably the first home-grown terrorist. Historically possible, this brief encounter raises questions of whether words do speak louder than action – or even gunpowder. Laced with dark magic and even darker lust (not to mention three untraditionally-glamorous witchy ‘midnight hags’), this comedy-drama brings an extra bang to the firework season.

Big Red Bath

Nosferatu

Rubba-Dubba-Giggle, Rubba-Dubba-Laugh, there’s magic to be found in the Big Red Bath. It’s the end of a busy day and it is almost time for bed, and Ben and Bella are in the bath. Come with us on a bubbly, barmy bath time adventure around the world and home again celebrating all things bath time. A quirky, vibrant and humorous adaptation of Julia Jarman’s popular children’s picture book that will appeal to families, as it blends music, song and humorous character based performances in a unique new take on this well-loved book.

‘Men more downcast than ever. All said they expected something of the kind, but would not say more than there was SOMETHING aboard. Mate getting very impatient with them. Feared some trouble ahead...’ Extract from Bram Stoker’s Dracula Inspired by the renowned German Expressionist film Nosferatu by FW Murnau and the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, Proper Job Theatre Company brings you its new touring production: Nosferatu.

Leeds Town Hall

Sunday 22 December: 3pm

Delight your family this Christmas with a double-bill of classic musical stories for children, accompanied by a live orchestra and narrated by Sanjeev Bhaskar. Peter and his animal companions are brought to life before your ears by dancing strings, quacking oboes, fluttering flutes and prowling horns in Prokofiev’s charming tale of courage and compassion. With the enchanting animated film The Snowman shown on a big screen, orchestral forces inject tingle-down-the-spine magic into Walking in the Air – the soundtrack to every child’s Christmas.

The perfect way to begin the exciting build-up to Christmas day. 26 Box Office: 0113 224 3801
