Eden

Welcome to Eden. The year is 2044 and Earth is a lifeless wasteland. The only chance of survival is to be accepted into Eden, a city enclosed in a protective dome where the inhabitants are free from the dangers of the Outside but the promise of paradise may not be all that it seems. Eden follows two individuals, their emotional journey of social exclusion, and their struggle to survive in a world where there is little room for forgiveness. Dynamic movement is fused with poetic text and woven throughout is a powerfully composed soundtrack. Using satirical commentary and physical interpretation, Displace Yourself Theatre present parallels of the challenges surrounding homelessness and explore the social divides that exclude many communities.

Inspired by the revolutionary art, music and literature of the times, they refuse to take arms against their fellow workers and fight in the First World War. Cosmopolitan Players, in partnership with Leeds City Museum, presents a new production of Oh What a Lovely War in its 50th anniversary year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the First World War. Viewed from the perspective of the common soldier, and the songs they sang during a war that killed ten million in four years, this musical entertainment production is a powerful comment against war. CYTM develops young people’s skills as performers, writers and directors through the creating of original productions.

Led by professional theatre director, Ruth Cooper, the members have the opportunity to work with other industry professionals such as actors, designers and stage managers. In creating a new piece of theatre CYTM work as an ensemble, developing team-work skills and increasing their vocabulary of contemporary performance styles and techniques. They form a supportive group in which their creativity is nurtured and they are offered a genuine platform for their ideas. Members in Group B may choose to work with Ruth to earn a Bronze or Silver Arts Award. Last minute workshop auditions for the September start are held on Wednesday 3 September. Get in touch to book your place! Email carriageworksytm@gmail.com or call 07891 272410 For examples of CYTM’s work and more information, please visit www.carriageworkstheatre.org.uk

Carriageworks Theatre: A unique business and events destination

In addition to the 349 seater Main Auditorium, a further six meeting rooms are available for conferencing, meetings and workshops, accommodating various numbers of delegates. All conference rooms provide AV equipment, air conditioning and support from a dedicated commercial team. Three of the six meeting rooms are situated in the historic part of the old Carriageworks development. These attractive meeting spaces reveal exposed brickwork and roof beams in keeping with the Victorian architecture whilst providing a light and airy studio feel. These rooms are also available to hire for evening rehearsals, special occasions, workshops and classes at a reasonable competitive rate. Please call 0113 395 2157 or email carriageworksvenue@leeds.gov.uk for more information.
