Southern Ocean Medical Center
Officially Kicks Off Construction for Multi-Million Dollar Cancer Expansion and Renovation Project The third of six monumental projects is launched by Meridian Health to enhance oncology care and build hope for residents with new facilities, state-of-the-art technology, and expanded medical expertise.
The Federation of New Jersey Food Banks challenges all students, staff, teachers and parents to think of those less fortunate throughout the school year by organizing a food drive at their school, beginning in mid-September through mid-November. New Jersey schools will compete with each other to collect as much food as possible for their local food bank. At the end of the challenge, schools that bring the most food will be presented with awards by their local food bank. Last fall, 202 schools participated statewide and the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks raised over 162,000 pounds of food and $51,000 in monetary contributions! Students Change Hunger 2015 will run from Monday, September 21st through Monday, November 23rd. To register your school go to http:// studentschangehunger. org/register-now/
Manahawkin, NJ - Southern Ocean Medical Center has officially kicked off construction for its new cancer center, an expansion and renovation project that will elevate cancer services to a new level in Ocean County. The new cancer center is slated to open in the spring of 2016. The project is part of a $128 million investment by Meridian Health, aimed at bringing a higher level of cancer care close to home with enhanced services in Ocean and Monmouth counties. The massive project builds upon well established and trusted cancer services already offered through Meridian Cancer Care. It will provide patients with better access through six expansion projects that will blend clinical expertise with an optimal patient and family experience. “Residents have come to trust our experienced physicians and compassionate support team, particularly in the area of cancer care,” says Joseph Coyle, president of Southern Ocean Medical Center. “Today marks the next step in the evolution of cancer care here in Manahawkin. Beyond the physical transformation that will take place with new treatment areas, clinical space and technology, the way in which we will enhance patient care is perhaps the most exciting part of the project.”
Tom Dolan, Chair, Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees; Joe Coyle, President, Southern Ocean Medical Center; Kim Frazee, Vice President, Physician and Business Development, Southern Ocean Medical Center; Tim Hogan, Regional Hospital President, Monmouth County and Mark Krasna, M.D., Medical Director, Meridian Cancer Care
Southern Ocean’s expansion will feature a 16,545 square foot addition, as well as physical, visual, and technical upgrades, including: • 20 brand new infusion stations in comfortable healing environment; • TrueBeam™ linear accelerator, most advanced radiation technology available (December 2016); • Multi-disciplinary oncology suite for evaluation by a team of cancer physicians in one visit; • Conference and family supportive care resources; • Expanded Nurse Navigator services to guide patients through every step; and • Specialty physician consultation offices. “Truly amazing things are happening at Meridian, and today’s celebration marks a series of milestones that will take place over the next three years,” says John K. Lloyd, FACHE, president of Meridian Health.
“Meridian is taking things to the next level and building hope with new cancer specialists, even more advanced technology, and a truly multidisciplinary approach to care.”
The first of six cancer projects was introduced in March, when Meridian Cancer Care at Jackson Health Village was opened. Riverview Medical Center broke ground for its cancer project in July, and similar expansions and renovations at Bayshore Community Hospital and Ocean Medical Center will begin shortly. The largest component of the project will take place at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, which will round out Meridian’s investment and is planned to be complete in 2017.
“This is an incredible investment in our community, bringing extraordinary oncology care closer to home,” says Mark J. Krasna, M.D., Medical Director of Meridian Cancer Care. When you package all these tremendous resources together, patient centered care is what individuals will find at Meridian Cancer Care. It is the cornerstone of our vision and commitment to building hope in New Jersey, and truly sets us apart from others.”

2016 nissan leaf
Now Offers Best-In-Class 107-Mile Range In Affordable, Fun-To-Drive Package Nissan today introduced the 2016 all-electric LEAF with an available 30 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated best-in-class* range of 107** miles – a 27-percent increase over the previous 24 kWH battery. The new battery is standard for LEAF SV and LEAF SL models. The 2016 model also offers an enhanced IT system that is more user-friendly and gives drivers greater vehicle connectivity. “Since Nissan LEAF launched in December 2010, we’ve become the global leaders in electric vehicle (EV) sales with an all-electric car specifically designed for the mass market,” said Andrew Speaker, director, Nissan Electric Vehicle (EV) Sales & Marketing. “We know that to maintain that leadership, we must continue developing battery technology that strikes that ideal balance between

capacity, packaging, durability and affordability.” The 2016 Nissan LEAF has a starting price of $26,700*** after the federal tax credit of $7,500 for the SV model and $29,290*** for LEAF SL after the federal tax credit. LEAF S models continue to be equipped with a 24 kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of 84* miles. Starting price for 2016 Nissan LEAF S grade remains $21,510** after the federal tax incentive. All LEAF models feature an 80kW AC synchronous motor that generates 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque, providing a highly responsive, fun-to-drive experience that consumers often expect from traditional, gasoline-powered vehicles. Unlike internal combustion engine-equipped vehicles, LEAF has no tailpipe, which means there is no emission of CO2 or other greenhouse gases. “The new battery is just one of several enhancements for the 2016 LEAF,” said Speaker. “We’re also bringing audio and connectivity upgrades by adding NissanConnect with Mobile Apps with 5.0-inch color display as standard features for LEAF S models, and for SV and SL grades we are offering NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps–featuring a 7.0-inch color display with multitouch control and Nissan Voice Recognition as standard features.” The NissanConnect with Mobile Apps system for 2016 LEAF S includes Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, Streaming audio via Bluetooth®, Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant and USB connection port for iPod® interface and other compatible devices.
NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps for SV and SL grades include a 7.0-inch color display with multitouch control, Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, HD radio, and SiriusXM Travel Link™ for weather, fuel prices, movie listings, stock info and sports (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately).
The menu screen graphics and customization process have been improved and charging screen information is now automatically updated every time the ignition is turned on and with every 12 miles of driving.
The NissanConnect EV system (no-charge subscription required), also standard on SV and SL grades, allows remote connection to the vehicle, providing monitoring of battery state-of-charge, start charging event control and turning on the heating and air conditioning system prior to entering the vehicle.
Nissan LEAF continues to offer the space and range to meet every day needs, while also providing an exceptional value proposition due to zero spending on gas, lower maintenance costs and a starting price after tax incentives competitive with a comparable gas-powered car. The 2016 model offers three new premium-look exterior colors: Forged Bronze, Coulis Red and Deep Blue Pearl.
Nissan LEAF and its battery are assembled in the United States at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tenn., assembly plant. -www.nissannews.com

JAY LENO AND 2016 FORD want a lift? We’ll Give You One! SHELBY GT350 MUSTANG HELP RAISE $885,000 FOR U.S. VETERANS AT GOODING AUCTION IN MONTEREY By: Christopher Varner
unit to Leno through Sondland Durant Foundation in support of the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative. In June, Henry Ford III joined President Bush for a walk-around of the car at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. President Bush drove the Shelby GT350 and signed the car’s dash. Leno drove the Shelby GT350 onto the auction block and, with Henry Ford III, helped amp up the bidding excitement. Peter W. Chiarelli, retired U.S. general who served as the 32nd vice chief of staff for the Army, was also on the auction block and carried out his offer to perform push-ups for additional funds donated. Bidding for the Shelby reached an impressive $700,000, which was increased to $885,000 by donations from auction guests.
Jay Leno teamed up with Ford Motor Company and the Shelby GT350 Mustang to raise $885,000 at a charity auction to support U.S. veterans. The preproduction GT350 was driven and signed by former President George W. Bush, at the Gooding & Company auction Aug. 15 as part of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the George W. Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative, which helps foster a successful transition and reintegration from military service to civilian life for veterans post-Sept. 11, 2001. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with Jay Leno as a part of his efforts to increase awareness and raise funds for the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative,” said Henry Ford III, global marketing manager, Ford Performance. “We’re indebted to the courageous men and women who have fought to preserve our freedoms. Providing this Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang – which President Bush drove and signed – is a small token of our gratitude for their sacrifices.”
The 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang features Ford’s latest 5.2-liter flat-plane V8 engine – the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the company’s history. The car is equipped with a Track Pack featuring MagneRide suspension, stiffer springs, an engine oil cooler and transmission cooler. “Our Ford Performance team did not hold back in the build of the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang,” said Dave Pericak, Ford director, Global Performance Vehicles. “We not only wanted to showcase Ford’s cutting-edge performance and design capabilities, but build a vehicle that is true to Carroll Shelby’s original GT350. I’m grateful Jay Leno included Ford in his efforts to support our nation’s greatest heroes with the auction of the Shelby Mustang. I’m confident Carroll would be very happy his legacy of performance vehicles and helping our veterans continues today.”

Available on Pilot EX trims and above, Honda Sensing™ can help improve drivers’ situational awareness with its various systems, which include the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). These systems benefit from the adoption of a sensor fusion technology integrating the capabilities of a windshield-mounted monocular camera and front grille-mounted millimeter wave radar system to provide enhanced sensing with the ability to identify and anticipate multiple collision scenarios, including those involving a pedestrian. When the system anticipates a collision or road departure, it can initiate warnings and, in certain instances, initiate emergency braking and steering.

With six starters returning on defense, three starters back on offense and a group of young players prepared to make The Dragon and The Altitude... Fire and Ice an impact, Southern is looking to put it all together and climb the ladder in Class A South after a pair of 5-5 seasons. Southern has a reputation for being well-coached and playing tough no matter what its talent level is compared to the opposition. Last season the Rams slugged their way to a 5-5 record against a difficult schedule, and this season they aim to be a factor in the division race while chasing a playoff berth in South Jersey Group V. “We really have to take it one week at a time,” said senior running back/linebacker Pat Walker. “No game in A South will be easy and everyone knows that. We’ll be in every game. The defense just has to stay tight and the offense has to put up some more points.” Southern’s identity is its hard-nosed defense under coordinator Matt Abbato, and the Rams will bring back six starters in their 5-2 unit that allowed 20.8 points per game. 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Dragon Edition With Only The teeth of the defense is with the linebacking corps as three 24693 Miles of the four are returning starters and the other saw significant 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Dragon Edition with only 24693 action. 2012 Jeep Wrangler Altitude with only 26101 Walker and 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior Jessemiles! We want to take as much pressure off the offense as we can.” Southern’s multiple offense will feature more I-formation looks than in seasons past to take advantage of a deep and versatile group of running backs. It has traditionally been a position Southern has had to piece together. Some years they have had breakout backs, but it usually seems to be a secondary position. There is excitement surrounding the position with the Walker brothers, Pat and Dane, and the Miele brothers, Joe and Vin, rotating at fullback and tailback. Barnetti is also in the rotation and brings speed to the position. Pat Walker led Southern with 643 yards and 11 total touchdowns last season. “We’ve always struggled at running back in that we had guys that could only do a little bit of stuff,” Donohue said. “Now we have guys that can all block and are playing some phase of defense and are competing against each other. We’ve never really had that. Every rep they’re fighting for playing time, and that’s a good thing. It will also let us substitute a lot.” “We have plenty of running backs and with different styles,” Pat Walker said. “Brandon is fast, my brother is a great blocker, Vinnie is pretty fast and Joe is a downhill runner.” Amirr played some at tight end last season and will start there as a junior. Toms River North transfer Rich Schwarting will back him up. Gagliardi will start at wide receiver after seeing some time there last season, and will be joined by senior Kyle McDonnell. In three- and four-wide receiver sets Brown and junior Chris Citerella will play. Stepping in at quarterback will be either junior Jackson Donahower or junior Sam Cammarata. Donahower is 6-foot-3 with a big arm and Cammarata also throws a good deep ball. “Both quarterbacks bring different things to the table,” Pat Walker said. “Sam is very smart and has a great deep ball, and Jackson is tall to see over the line of scrimmage and can air it out.” The challenge on offense will be replacing all five starters on the offensive line. Senior Quinn Smith is the left tackle, 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior Zack Weidenhof is the right tackle and Joe Dolphin is the center. Doug and Devin Vande Velde and senior Brian Weeks will rotate at the guard positions.

“The offensive line just needs to get some more experience,” Donohue said. “Those guys last year were good, and now we have the backs but developing a line will be the struggle. Working in the ‘I’ allows us to have two double teams and have a back in to block.” Cammarata will be the punter and either Barnetti or McDonnell will be the kicker. The Rams begin their season with a Week Zero game at home against Central. The Golden Eagles, who had been Southern’s Thanksgiving rival, feature 2,000-yard rusher Mike Bickford and defeated the Rams 16-6 in the final game for both teams last season. Getting off to a good start with a win before getting into their division schedule will be crucial. -www.shoresportsnetwork.com
I Thought You Saw Me Pulling Out!! By: Jason Halliday
Imagine you are just minding your own business (really singing along to the radio, but don’t tell anyone!) and out of nowhere someone just pulls right out and you hit them! They messed up your awesome (**Cough**) singing and now messed up your car which is a lease and due in a couple years. Now you’re stuck to find somewhere to get it fixed. Collision Centers (or Body Shops) are like the Dentist, no one “likes” to go there; however, you have to go and get it done! Many people have no clue what actually goes into fixing and getting your Vehicle back into shape again. It all starts with either driving or towing your car into the Body Shop. You will have an Estimator (Service Writer) schedule an appt with you to look over the vehicle. They might at this point classify the vehicle after talking with your insurance as totaled at this point, so you don’t waste your time on something they won’t pay for! The second step is to “tear down” the car; this is exactly what it sounds like. The main Tech working on your car is going to take everything off all the way down to the metal (in most cases). Taking an inventory of everything needed or recommended. A lot of the time once they start taking everything off your quote will grow when they find something that is a safety hazard that was buried deep inside the car. Once everything is written up and placed in its own bin they will order everything up and start working to get the frame checked and fixed is needed. The Body Shop is where all the welding and fixing of the actual vehicle is done. This is a LONG process; for the most part you WON’T get your car back in a week! There are state and federal guidelines when it comes to fixing the vehicles and they are taken very seriously, when it comes to the safety of you and your family there is no messing around. The techs that are working in our Body Shop are veterans fixing cars and are the best in the area when it comes to Body Work! The funniest thing is you can walk back there at any time when they’re open and all you see is sparks flying and dust from the grinding flying all over like snow. Computers take the place when it comes down to the frame and is accurate to
such a minute degree, if it says it’s off… then it is! Once your baby is completed and checked by the tech, estimator, and finally the Body Shop Manager. It will go on to the Paint Shop! The Paint Shop is where everyone wants to go when they work for a Body Shop, but few are really any good at it. Thanks to custom car shows everyone thinks they will be painting flames on everything and making some weird Super Candy Apple Paint job on a 67 GTO. Painting takes Years to perfect and someone that not only minds the extreme heat (Excess of 98 degrees or more) all year round, but also HOURS upon HOURS painting coat after coat. Then finally getting all the layers completed with the clear coat and sanding afterwards, just to have one spot that didn’t dry right or have someone hate the paint job… then the whole thing has to be sanded off and done again!

Causeway Collision Center is located behind Causeway Honda on Rt 72 in Manahawkin. It’s one of the state’s largest!
The hardest part about painting is the preparing! It could almost take your days just to sand everything and repair dents and taping off all the areas just so you can paint. Just like our Body Shop Techs, our Painters are literally the best around! You can’t just take someone off the road, you literally have to learn by doing. Having your vehicle fixed isn’t the most exciting thing you have to do, but when it happens it’s good to know what exactly goes into fixing a vehicle. Cars aren’t interchangeable like a Lego, even when you have factory parts you always have to tweak them until it will go in. We have one of the biggest Body Shops in the area and we will work on everything from a Smart Car to a School Bus. Stock, Custom… it doesn’t matter. If you need something done right the first time you need to give us a try!
St. Francis of Assisi Parish & Center 4700 Long Beach Blvd. • Long Beach Twp., NJ 08008
BRANT BEACH – As a new school year quickly approaches the St. Francis Community Center has completed its annual Back to School Project. Registration for this project started on July 13th and distributed on August 20th and 21st. This project serves community residents from Forked River to Tuckerton and is operated out of the Human Concerns Department. Because of our wonderful community partners and the donations we received, we were able to assist 281 children within our community. All children received a new backpack filled with the essentials for back to school. Everyone has memories of what it feels like to get their new backpack and school supplies and we want to provide those memories to families who are in need. Our hope is for all children returning to school to have confidence and a readiness to learn. This project was initially started to help families with the cost incurred of sending their children back to school. Our project has grown over the years to include products from local dentists and hair salons. After our initial outreach efforts with the SandPaper and on line social media we received an outpouring from our community. Donations exceeded our expectations and were able to surpass our 250 enrolled children. Our Community partners include the following and without them we would not be able to meet our community’s needs. Funding for backpacks was provided by Long Beach Island Rotary who always supports our efforts along with the Jetty Rock Foundation who heard our concerns of low backpack donations and promptly delivered 150 backpacks. Home Depot and Olive Garden’s employees each had a “Back to School” drive and delivered boxes of much needed school supplies. The Surf City Police Department called about sponsoring a food drive and heard about our Back to School project and joined our efforts by collecting school supplies. Our own St. Francis “Shark Swim Team” collected items to support fellow students. We also want to thank the countless residents who went out and purchased items needed to fill this program. Additional community partners contributed to our programs success include: Wal-Mart, BJ’s, Costco, Ocean Family Dental, Ocean Pediatric Dental, Scissor Sisters and Janes Cutaway. We are grateful to live in a close knit community who selflessly give to support those in need.

Ryan’s Recreational Review By Ryan Tacovsky –Sales Associate and Outdoor Enthusiast
It is now the beginning of September and school is back in session and that can only mean one thing, deer season is right around the corner. September is the beginning of bow season in New Jersey, as well as many other states. Bow deer season runs from Sep. to Jan. It is one of the longest hunting seasons we have in New Jersey. So grab your bows sight them in and get out there and start setting up those tree stands. Different hunters have different styles and techniques to bow hunting. Me personally I love to use a little thing called acorn rage, it is basically just ground up acorns with some other natural food that is local to New Jersey. A lot of hunters will just put out some regular corn and that works for them. But over the last two years I have went with this and it has done amazing things for me. The best way to go about doing this is to set out your food and set up some trail cams and see what you get on camera at certain times and plan your hunt around when the deer are coming into your spot. It can be a tricky thing cause one week you can have the deer coming in to your spot at one hour one week and next week there just not there at all. What makes it more difficult for most people is not the deer’s schedule but your own. People get busy and things come up and you might not be able to get out to your spot when you need to and then you have to start the whole process over again and that gets a bit stressful. But do not get discouraged, it happens to every hunter, and the more experience you have the better you become at placing yourself in front of the deer. It takes practice and
time just like anything else. Besides the rush you get when you have done everything right and you are out in your spot and the deer are there just when you thought they would be there also is something calming and relaxing about just being out there in nature no matter what. There are plenty of days you will go out for a hunt and all there is out there is you and nothing else. But being out there and just listening and seeing what goes on naturally in the woods is surreal. All I can really say is get out there and learn and master your craft. It takes time to learn how to be consistent with a bow as it does with getting in front of the deer. And remember do not be greedy, do things right and by the book. Make sure you are safe and following the rules that are set in place by the wild life management. They have rules for a reason, deer hunting can be a fun and safe sport and we want it to be something we can do here in New Jersey for generations to come.

Safer, Effortless Ride and Elegant Design
THE ALL NEW LINCOLN MKX angle of the front wheels.
In traditional steering systems, this is a fixed steering ratio. With this new solution, the steering ratio continually changes with vehicle speed, optimizing steering response in all situations.
“Personalized luxury, delivered through a suite of customer-focused enhancements, is at the heart of the all-new Lincoln MKX,” said John Polasek, Chief Program Engineer. “Power matched with refinement, helpful technology that’s easy to use and beautiful, thoughtful design elevate Lincoln MKX to a whole new level.” The all-new Lincoln MKX further strengthens Lincoln’s position in the midsize premium utility segment, one of the largest luxury segments in the United States, representing about one-quarter of the retail luxury automotive market. Available semi-autonomous features include the first Lincoln implementation of technology that may help avoid or lessen the severity of some frontal crashes - Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection activates at speeds above 3 mph. If no corrective action is taken and the system detects a collision is imminent, the brakes are automatically applied. Further, the all-new Lincoln MKX earned a 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Available adaptive steering adjusts the ratio between a driver’s steering input and the steering
Standard electric power-assisted steering adjusts steering feel by matching the driver’s requested Lincoln Drive Control mode. At lower speeds, EPAS provides additional boost for effortless maneuverability. At higher speeds, EPAS increases steering effort and feedback, giving the driver a more precise steering feel. Together, EPAS and adaptive steering help provide an outstanding driving experience: EPAS reduces effort while adaptive steering reduces the amount the wheel needs to be turned. There is a new Auto Hold feature, which relieves the driver from having to press the brake pedal continuously to keep the vehicle stationary in traffic. Auto Hold releases the brakes when the accelerator pedal is pressed. Lincoln Drive Control, a suite of ride-enhancing technologies that customize the driving experience and optimize performance, orchestrates available continuously controlled damping, electric powerassisted steering and active noise control. Drivers can select among normal, sport and comfort modes. Active noise control enhances overall sound quality by cancelling unwanted noises, resulting in a comfortable cabin and a better environment for music listening and in-car telephone conversation.

In addition to greater adjustability than previously offered to better tailor and personalize their experience, improved comfort comes from a patented flexible comfort carrier.
This suspension system of plastic and a thin layer of foam flexes around the body, helping take stress off the shoulders and neck.
Lincoln seats engineers studied first-class and private airplane seats for possible applications. Lisa Senters-McDermott, CEO of Jet Senters Aviation, believes luxury drivers will welcome the influence of high-end aviation seating.
The available 22-way multicontour front seats with Active Motion® can ease muscle fatigue and can be tailored for preference and comfort.
The patented Active Motion function is a slight continuous movement in the seat cushion, which helps reduce potential back pain by provoking a change in the muscular activation of the pelvic area. Developed in part with input from orthopedic surgeons, this feature is especially beneficial on long trips or while waiting in traffic
The seat contour and fit for both driver and passenger can be adjusted to personalize the seat. Further adjustments can be made through the fourway power head restraint and the power cushion thigh extender.
Lincoln Experiences greets the driver when her or she, with key fob, is within approximately 9 feet. The lower LED daytime running lights gently brighten, while a “welcome mat” is projected on the ground from the folded mirrors. Door handles are illuminated, too, tuned to the exterior color.
The available panoramic Vista Roof® provides invigorating open-air travel and a sky-high view of the passing scenery for all passengers.

Little Shop of Horrors
Our Gang Style By: Jennifer Baker
Our favorite Ocean County community non-profit theater, Our Gang Player’s, is at it again. They have been rehearsing four to five nights a week to bring you “Little Shop of Horrors.” This show has a small but talented cast. There are only 20 cast members and 10 of those are main characters.
Many of us remember the movie that came out in 1986. Seymour- Kyle Sheehan, Audrey- Christine Suddeth, Orin- Eric Weinhardt But the musical premiered off-off-Broadway in 1982 before moving to the Orpheum Theater Off-Broadway, where it had a five year run. The premise is a nerdy florist, Seymour, finds his chance for success when he buys a strange and unusual plant. This man-eating plant, Audrey 2, finds ways to get what he wants. Seymour and his co-worker, Audrey, work in a florist shop owned by Mr. Mushnik. Seymour is secretly in love with Audrey who has an abusive boyfriend, Orin the dentist. The Skid Row girls help guide the story through and sing Doo Wop type songs. Little Shop is under the direction of Lou Monaco. Lou has been directing The plant voice-Gerald Daniel, Mr. Mushnik-Neil Goldstein shows and performing in O.G.P. since 1997. “People should see this show because this is going to be the best Little Shop of Horrors. It is going to surpass all other community theaters productions of this show. It is going to be terrific,” said Lou Monaco. The musical director is Steven Strouse. Once you hear the harmonies of the Skid Row girls and the talented singers you will be wowed. Lou says, “The sound of the chorus songs is extraordinary, just to hear the harmonies.” Lou could not say enough good things about this show. There are some new people in this show that have never been in Our Gang Player’s before. The artistic Director Sherry Schnepp is always Skid Row Girls- Lindsey Monaco, Nicole Clark, Stacey Schnepp-Stoops, Carly Sica proud and happy to welcome new members into the Our Gang Family. With only four weeks of rehearsal before putting the show on the first weekend in October is hard. The cast is very happy and excited to put the hard work in. You can see “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Bengal Theater in the Barnegat High School on October 2-3 at 7 pm and Sunday October 4 at 2pm. Please call 609-597-0553 to reserve tickets or go online to ourgang.org to buy tickets online. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors/students and $10 for kids under 12yrs old. You can also buy tickets at the door where cash, check or credit card is accepted. Also look for the Our Gang Reunion Alumni show coming up November 28th. This show will be very exciting. We are expecting alumni as far back as the 1990’s. Look for Our Gang members such as Kevin Bott, Ryan Dunn, Mark Fisher, Michael Keeler and many more. There will also be a SlyCap reunion! This show will be a fundraiser for Our Gang. The hope is to make it an annual show. You can buy tickets currently for this Alumni show online at Ourgang.org. Tickets online are $20 a piece and include drink and desert at intermission. Or you can purchase tickets at the door the night of the show, November 28th at 7pm for $25. This reunion alumni show will be at the Bengal Theater in Barnegat High School also.

30 YEARS EXPERIENCE!!
Long Beach Township – St. Francis Center, LBICC Inc., has been awarded $14,500 by OceanFirst Foundation of Toms River, NJ. The OceanFirst Foundation Major Grant will provide funds to upgrade the computer server and to create wireless access points within St. Francis Parish and Community Center. Not only will the grant benefit the employees of St. Francis Center, but all of our clients spread throughout Ocean County. The upgrade will enable us to work from anywhere within the building and Ocean County. Our work environment is changing and we must move forward if we are to continue to provide the best supportive services within southern Ocean County. Connie Becraft, Executive Director said, “The reality as a non-profit organization we cannot afford to upgrade an entire system and the system we have is unable to support wireless services.” Stacey Kelsall, Comptroller said, “The grant will help offset IT expenses and keep our administrative costs lower.” The current server is at the end of its life and can no longer be supported by Microsoft. The new server will have better security, more performance and will help St. Francis Center stay current and keep up with mobile technology. It will increase the mobile capabilities to do things on the go with whatever device. Lori Tomaro, Director of Family Support had this to say about the new technology upgrades, “With this funding we will now be able to access information on our computers when working remotely in the community; allowing us to access web based systems and faster internet speeds.” St. Francis Community Center was awarded the first Ocean Foundation Grant in 1997 and since then OceanFirst Foundation has awarded St. Francis Center with 20 grants totaling $413,674. Since its founding in 1902, OceanFirst Bank (www.oceanfirst.com) has built a solid reputation and legacy as a good neighbor and responsible corporate citizen. The Bank’s strong commitment to helping families, organizations, schools and communities throughout central New Jersey meet their financial needs has spanned several generations reaching new heights in 1996 with the creation of OceanFirst Foundation. The Foundation provides grants to organizations that meet community needs within the OceanFrist market area. Since its inception, OceanFirst Foundation has contributed more than $25 million to over 600 local charities and schools in Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex counties. What You Should Know About Concussions A concussion is caused by a blow or a jolt to the head and can affect children as well as adults. It results from the movement of the brain within the skull after an impact. Since the brain doesn’t move as fast as the skull, the impact can result in a back and front injury of the brain, or a rotational injury of the brain.
“If there is any concern after a person strikes their head, this is the time to get a medical evaluation,” says Tommasina Papa-Rugino, M.D., a board certified neurologist at Southern Ocean Medical Center. Symptoms may not appear immediately, so if someone has had a head injury, it is important to be aware of any changes in the following hours or days. “You can’t prevent all concussions. People are involved in lots of activities and things can unexpectedly happen,” notes Dr. Papa-Rugino. “But one of the most important things for children, as well as adults, is to wear helmets when riding a bike, riding an ATV, or participating in certain sports. And wear seatbelts.” Other prevention tips include:

Concussion can occur under a variety of circumstances. For example, you can hit your head from a fall at home, when you play sports, in a motor vehicle accident, or an injury while riding a bicycle, just to name a few. The fact is concussion can happen to anyone. Some of the initial symptoms of a concussion may be disorientation, headache, or dizziness. As the day goes on, a person may have difficulty with concentration, difficulty paying attention, memory loss, or confusion. Since concussion can result in a series of physical as well as cognitive symptoms, the person can also have nausea or vomiting.

They may take a little bit of time, but they do get better and the individual can usually get back to what they enjoy,” says Dr. Papa-Rugino.
