RARE BIRD AND PONY APPEAR AT CAUSEWAY FORD By Editor Joe Stroffolino

Manahawkin - Usually rare birds appear in the wild. They are also normally not to be harmed or caged. On March 12 of this year, I received a call about an opportunity to purchase a rare bird along with a similarly rare Pony. Bird and Pony were brought to us to see and consider for purchase. We were quite impressed with their rarity and beauty. We were fortunate to complete the purchase on No not that kind of both! What is even more exciting is that some rare bird… lucky customer will have the opportunity to purchase these beauties next! The rare bird is 63 years old, bright red, white and black. She is in surprisingly good shape for her age. She has been well cared for and has had some restorative work done over the years. If you are not familiar with the history of the Thunderbird let’s go to our friends at Wikepedia… The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two-seat convertible produced by Ford for the 1955 to 1957 model year, the first 2-seat Ford since 1938. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which showed the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette in turn was developed in response to the popularity of European sports cars among Americans. Dubbed a “personal car” by Ford, it built upon the heritage of the bespoke roadsters of the 1930s yet was constructed largely of existing components, marking the first step toward the evolution of the personal luxury car as a mass market segment in the United States. While light weight for its era and fitted with a standard V8 engine, the Thunderbird focused more on driver comfort than speed, and was not a direct rival to either the Corvette or European sports cars. It remained the only two-seat convertible Thunderbird until the eleventh-generation was unveiled in 2002. Ford unveiled the Thunderbird at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. The first production car came off the line on September 9, 1954, and went on sale on October 22, 1954 as a 1955 model, and sold briskly; 3,500 orders were placed in the first ten days of sale. While only 10,000 were planned, 16,155 were sold in 1955. It included fender skirts and a removable fiberglass top as standard equipment, with a fabric

Yes, this kind of rare bird! 1955 Thunderbird Red with white removable hard top and black convertible top. convertible top as a commonly specified option. The engine was Ford’s proven 292-cubic-inch OHV 292 Y-block V8, which got 18MPG. The exhaust pipes exited through twin bumper guards bolted to the rear bumper. The car used existing chassis and suspension design and off-the-shelf Ford mechanical components. It was constructed body-on-frame frame using a version of the standard Ford design cut-down to a 102-inch wheelbase identical the Corvette’s. It was produced with a Fordomatic automatic or manual overdrive transmissions, and featured four-way powered seats and pushbutton interior door handles. Other unique features were a telescoping steering wheel and a tachometer. A rare domestic two-seater for the era, it was designed to be a brisk luxury tourer and not a sports car, and could hit 110-120 mph. The 1955 Thunderbird has only 54,789 original miles on it. In 1955 Ford Motor Company produced 16155 Thunderbirds. Based on that amount made this car is not very rare. What does make this car rare is time and the fact that so few 1955 Thunderbirds remain from the original production run. If you always wanted to grab an American classic vintage automobile this is a great opportunity. Call 609-7136706 to arrange a viewing appointment. Now fast forward 57 years to 2012. Ford produced a very limited production run of the iconic American classic Mustang BOSS 302! This makes our 2012 BOSS 302 a rare pony for sure. What makes it even more rare is it’s only 3893 original miles! This BOSS is truly “Born to Run” with it’s 444 horse power! Here is a little history lesson on the BOSS 302.

replaced the chrome.[4] With a suggested price of $3,720, a total of 7,013 were sold. In addition to a lower ride height, standard equipment included front disc brakes, larger sway bars, heavier duty spindles, reinforced shock towers, a four speed manual transmission, and the solidlifter Boss 302 V8 engine, with its free-breathing Cleveland style heads, which had valves larger than most engines more than a third larger in displacement.[5] This “G Code” engine was rated at 290 hp (216 kW). The 1970 model could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.9 seconds, and the quarter mile (~400 m) took 14.6 seconds, reaching a speed of 98 mph (158 km/h).[4] Although Ford’s Drag Pack option with a special oil cooler was never formally offered on the Boss 302, it was often included with the 4.30:1 rear axle ratio. This coveted option is recognizable when the hood is opened to reveal Ford’s vertically mounted oil cooler in front of the radiator. Ford also had an option for Boss 302’s and 429’s for deluxe interior rather than standard interior [6] Ford revived the Boss 302 nameplate for 2012. The standard 2011 Ford Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 is enhanced and was referred to within Ford’s development teams as the Road Runner engine.[13]

The Camaro/Mustang rivalry had begun in 1967 with the introduction of the Chevrolet Camaro by General Motors. The Camaro was the largest threat to the lead Ford had in the “pony car” field, a market segment largely created by Ford with the introduction of the Mustang in mid-year 1964. The performance of the Mustang with 289 and 390 engines was not up to the Camaro, with its small block and big block V8. In an effort to improve the Mustang’s image Ford made a 428 Cobra Jet V8 and a Ford Boss 302 engine optional for the 1968 mid-year and 1969 models, respectively.

The 1969–70 Boss 302 (Hi-Po) engine was created in 1968 for the SCCA’s 1969 Trans-Am road racing series. The much larger engine in the Boss 429 reflects the less restrictive engine displacement limits of NASCAR at the time.

The Boss 302 Mustang was designed by Larry Shinoda, a former GM employee. The car featured a reflective “c-stripe”. The fake air scoops in the rear quarter panel fenders of the regular production 1969 Mustangs were eliminated on the Boss 302 models. A black horizontal rear window shade and a blackout hood were both options. It was one of the first production models with a front spoiler and rear deck wing. The name “Boss” came about when Shinoda was asked what project he was working on, he answered “the boss’s car” because the project was a secret. Also Shinoda had called it the “Boss” as an homage to the new President of Ford Semon “Bunkie” Knudson who had brought Shinoda over from GM’s Chevrolet Division after Knudson had left. Changes for the 1970 model year included side “hockey stick” stripes which started along the top of the hood, along with the 1970 grille which replaced the four headlights with two vents in the outside position while retaining dual headlights within the grille opening. The dual exhaust system was redesigned, along with the competition suspension and a standard Hurst shifter. The intake valves were slightly smaller, and cast aluminum valve covers

The Boss 302 takes the Mustang GT’s suspension and adds higher-rate coil springs, stiffer bushings, and a larger diameter rear stabilizer bar. The body is lowered 11 mm (0.433 in) up front and just 1 mm (0.039 in) in the rear to give it a more raked stance designed to recall the original. The shock absorbers are adjustable at the shock tower by using a flat head screwdriver. The standard Mustang traction control system and electronic stability control programs have been altered with a new intermediate sport mode designed to allow for more flexibility on the track. The aero package (i.e. spoilers, splitters, etc.) is almost entirely copied from the Boss 302R race car. The 19-inch black-alloy racing wheels are 9-inches wide up front and 9.5-inches out back and come fitted with 255/40-19 (front) and 285/35-19 (rear) Pirelli P-Zero tires. Ford produced 2000 standard Boss 302 models within 764 Laguna Seca models for 2012 as well for 2013 (2000 total). Hopefully you have learned some things you did not know about two of Ford Motor company’s most iconic models. Please share this exciting news that these two vehicles are available for purchase with the classic car enthusiast you know. If you would like to arrange a viewing of either of these opportunity classics call 609-713-6706.

It Takes a Community

by Anne Green

Drug and alcohol abuse is a serious concern in our communities. The opioid problem is now at alarming numbers: Every day 91 people die from an overdose in this country. Ocean and Monmouth counties are among the hardest hit for substance abuse in the state. Every year, Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center and the Stafford Township Intermediate School partner along with the police department D.A.R.E. officers and local anti-abuse leaders to present Project Aware, a dramatic presentation to inform and educate sixth-graders about the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. Through realistic, dramatic presentations of reallife details that connect with students’ lives and experiences, students learn the consequences of making bad choices and discover they have the power to make smart decisions.

Congratulations Caleb Rossi. Southern Boys Golf, on being named #BSNSports Male Athlete of the Week. Caleb finished tied for 7th at the Palmetto Classic in Myrtle Beach and finished the spring break winning the 2018 Wildcat Invitational. Good Luck the rest of the season.

“Of the 560 students surveyed over the past two years, 98% agree that Project Aware will help them make the “right” choice, and 99% agree that this experience should be given to all sixth- graders every year,” said Kenneth Rodenbaugh, RN, CARN, CEN, project coordinator of Project Aware and emergency medicine nurse at Southern Ocean Medical Center. “Now

in its 19th year, Project Aware has expanded to Pinelands Regional Junior High School. My hope is to expand to more schools in an effort to reduce the incidences of overdoses and deaths in Ocean and Monmouth counties.” During the week of April 23, students of the Stafford Intermediate School’s Drama Enrichment program will present a unique and

one-of-a-kind experience that has influenced the lives of thousands of students in our community. The extraordinary experience will conclude at the Southern Ocean Medical Center’s Emergency Department. There is also an audio system designed by Revel called the “Ultima” which has up to 20 speakers in the Navigator and a yet to be announced amount in the Aviator.

Lincoln Aviator

Whether you had Lincolns for a lifetime or are just starting to look into them now, you really owe it to yourself to check out the new Lineup of one of the fastest growing and popular lineups in the Luxury market today. Automotive magazines are starting to write more and more articles on Lincoln and you are even seeing them in TV Shows and Movies again. This is an exciting time with a lot of really nice upcoming vehicles that will keep raising the bar for years to come.

CAUSEWAY SINGLE WHEEL BOX

Lincoln Aviator

People might see the MKX on the chopping block and wonder why, this is due to the name changing. They can’t just change the name of the vehicle, they wanted to change the entire vehicle while still keeping the same dimensions and price point. The Aviator is actually the first all new Lincoln. They are not using an existing Lincoln model. They in fact are based off a modified version of the Explorer chassis, which will give it 3 rows and make it cheaper than the Navigator. When the Lincoln Aviator came out in 2002 people loved them, we actually still see some in the service drive once in a while. They really only stopped production when the gas prices were really high and people didn’t want SUV’s anymore. The Aviator will be also the only vehicle in it’s class to be a Plug-in Hybrid! Thats right, you will be able to run this vehicle on nothing but batteries for some time. There is also the Navigator, which was completely redesigned in 2018 and didn’t skimp on anything. It has available 30 way power seat, it also has an 3.5L twin turbocharged 450hp engine hooked up to a 10 speed transmission.

Got aphids? You can control them with a strong blast of water from the hose or with insecticidal soap. But here’s another suggestion, one that’s a lot more fun; get some tape! Wrap a wide strip of tape around your hand, sticky side out, and pat the leaves of plants infested with aphids. Concentrate on the undersides of leaves, because that’s where the little buggers like to hide.

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW SPRING 2018

Manahawkin- NJ-72 Route 72 Manahawkin NJ 08050 has been… A boat dealer, RV dealer, plumbing supply store, Suzuki dealer, Family Certified Used store, Luxury Imports store, SureSale Certified Pre-Owned store and finally CarSmart Certifed Pre-Owned store. The building also housed our Finance and Insurance departments as well. When The Causeway Family of Dealerships added Hyundai to the family back in September 2016, the plan was for an eventual move. The original plan was a move to a parcel of land between Lucille’s Own Made Candy and Manahawkin KIA. Having had our Nissan store in the KIA location, we decided that based on the lack of traffic the better move would be to Hyundai on campus. That would mean receiving approvals from both the township as well as Hyundai Motor Corporation. Through many months of approvals and permits, we were ready to go! First step everybody’s favorite, like Chip says “Demo Day”! Demo Day started on Wednesday March 20th the day before Snowmageddon 3, so unfortunately we had to wait until Monday March 25th for demolition to resume. Here are some photos of the demo. Stay tuned for future updates on the buildings progress.

Building demolished to make way for new Hyundai facility

After several days of demolition and cleanup the site work began.

Then with one push of the backhoe the faced toppled over like a domino.

Demolition began at the back of the building and lasted several days.

The demolition crew worked until the mere façade of the building was left.

Site work consist of connecting the utilities and preparing the ground for the building’s foundation.

One thing remained to make this building construction official…a Future home of sign!

panels are anything but boring, with shoulder twists and sharp sheet metal stampings capturing and reflecting colors and light,” said Albaisa.

2019 ALTIMA

The new Altima also embraces the new-generation Nissan signature design cues, including the distinctive evolving V-motion grille, floating roof and boomerang lights. For use on the new Altima, the roof pillars appear slimmer and the headlight more streamlined. The available LED headlights and daytime running lights combine with the signature grille design to emphasize the front-end width and low hood. In the rear, the horizontal movement continues, showcasing the evolved boomerang taillight treatment. Inside, the combination of sporty look and sophisticated presence continues. Traditional chrome decorations were updated with fewer, more refined matte chrome accents. “We want the Altima interior to be inclusive for all occupants, with a sense of barrier-free togetherness, rather than the isolated feel of some crossovers and SUVs. Passengers should feel visually connected in a harmonious space that balances form, function and ease of use,” added Albaisa.

THE NEW GLOBAL FACE OF NISSAN SEDAN DESIGN NEW YORK – If the designers behind the 2019 Nissan Altima have anything to say about it, the sixth generation of the company’s top-selling sedan – with more than five million sold since introduction – is about to reinvigorate interest in midsize sedans. Once the dominant body style in most major automotive markets, sedans sales have experienced erosion in favor of consumers’ preference for crossovers and compact SUVs. That has left the leading global sedan manufacturers in a unique position of competing not only with each other, but within their own model lineups for sales. “When we originally started designing the next generation of the Altima, it was still the company’s best-selling nameplate in the critical U.S. market, so there wasn’t much pressure to make radical changes,” explained Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president, Global Design, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “Then our own Rogue took off, drawing in new customers unlike anything we’d experienced before. This gave us the opportunity to rethink the Altima outside the traditional sedan design box and create something more exciting and yet more sophisticated.” Thus, deep into the usual design cycle, teams from four major Nissan design centers – Japan, Europe, U.S. and China – were called together to start working on a compressed timeline to create a new global face for Nissan sedans. Simultaneously, in a nearby studio work was well underway for the stunning Nissan Vmotion 2.0 concept, which became the blueprint for the new Altima. “The usual sequence for a concept car and production model is to have a little more breathing room between the two so you can gauge public reaction. But with the Altima the schedule was compressed to the benefit of both vehicles through an ongoing exchange of ideas,” said Albaisa.

sedans as more efficient in terms of space and energy – and as vehicles that work equally well with clients as with carpools,” said Albaisa. “We pictured empowered people who want everything in their lives – from homes to offices to fashion to cars – to be functional yet stylish every single day. The all-new Altima is exactly that.” With this key target consumer mindset in place, a couple of other timely decision fell into the designers’ laptops. First, the corporate decision to make the Altima a true showcase for the most advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology – as well as the major investment in two new engines. And secondly, the decision to give the Altima a new lower, longer, wider platform. Those two decisions alone enabled a number of critical design choices, starting with the new Altima’s proportions and stance. The lower-profile engines – both the new VCTurbo and the new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder – gave the designers the freedom and space to lower the new Altima’s cowl and hoodline – which also resulted in a lower instrument panel height and a more open-feeling cabin. With the more compact engines, not only could the hood be lower but the front overhang could also be shortened. At the same time, the rear wheels could be pushed farther to the corners, helping create the sleek, sporty profile. At the same time, the designers opened up the wheel wells of the longer, wider body and fitted up to 19-inch wheels and tires – creating the sporty stance, like a track athlete getting ready to run. “Stance is something most people don’t think about but recognize it when they see it. It’s that sense of a car just looking right. The new Altima, the way it sits, just looks right,” added Albaisa.

The other unique aspect of the new Altima design process was driven by the decision to make this generation more of a global vehicle, rather than just U.S.-focused. Working side by side, the Nissan designers from each market influenced the others, resulting in a design appealing to global customers looking for sophistication, expressivity and sport. Expressive design for empowered owners Given the freedom to go bold and go quickly, the designers faced another challenge. In a changing marketplace for midlevel-priced vehicles, who represented the core, loyal sedan buyer? The answer came down to two words – professional and sophisticated. “Our studies clearly identified a large group of people who choose sedans over crossovers because they see

Once the dimensions and under-the-skin engineering parameters were set, the real work began – draping and finetuning the sheet metal in a way that both breaks new ground and also is easily recognized as a Nissan. The designers began by considering what they call “structural beauty,” inspired by lean, strong and confident current-generation architecture and construction that uses curvy surfaces and lines to create an energetic and emotional flow. They also looked at today’s slim, tailored men’s and women’s suits that project a sleeker, sharper modern style. These qualities were expressed in the new Altima’s linear, tailored look, with sharp horizontal lines emphasizing the lower, longer proportions. The bodyside, for example, is dominated by one prominent crease that runs from headlamp through the entire car. “The Altima proportions gave us the freedom to create a body that’s simple and streamlined, with a strong horizontal movement. Unlike typical sedans, the surfaces and body

The instrument panel features a standard 7-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display in front of the driver and an 8-inch center color display with multi-touch control with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ in the center. Special emphasis was placed on giving all of the switches and controls – including those for the new features such as the available ProPILOT Assist – an intuitive, effortless feel and natural operation. The Altima’s innovative NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats, noted for their long driving range comfort, were enhanced with dual-density foam and added bolstering for improved holding and support around town driving.

“So many elements contribute to the new Altima making the driver feel confident and in control – from the firm hold of the seats to the direct response of the engine and transmission, the reduced eye movement of the intuitive meters and controls, the high quality materials and fit-and-finish, and the Intelligent Driving technologies that are always ready when needed,” added Albaisa. Modern and fresh – a special approach to colors and materials The final touches to the new Altima design process came from the colors and materials team. In laying out the basic interior design parameters, the team sought to establish a look that was lean and clean – rather than the overdone interiors of typical sedans. “Like the exterior styling, the approach to the interior trim and materials was super modern, without all the extras,” said Albaisa. From a color standpoint, the new Altima interior moves away from the usual saturation of various shades of beige to new, light gray tones and natural colors that help emphasize the wide and spacious cabin. Even the black hues have more contrast, with subtle gray thread accents. Trim pieces are also more muted, with matte chrome and satin finishes. The available simulated wood finishers have warm and luxurious qualities. The result is a more premium feel for all Altima grade levels, not just the high-end grades. The exterior color palette of the new Altima also takes a big step away from ordinary. Along with the whites, silvers and black, two Altima-specific colors are designed to drape the expressive body with a standout sense of richness and energy. The Scarlet Ember premium color uses special tinting to add more depth and layering than regular paint surfaces. And, the one-of-a-kind Sunset Drift metallic orange has a color-shifting quality created by a special pigment shape. The way the paint reflects light as viewers move around the Altima gives the vehicle a unique dynamic energy.

ELEGANT AVIATOR SUV PREVIEWS LINCOLN’S NEXT ACT WITH POWER, TECHNOLOGY AND PLUG-IN HYBRID OPTION

Lincoln Drive Modes allow clients to further customize the drive experience, while a 12-inch standard cluster display confirms the choice with beautiful and dynamic, easy-to-read graphics.

NEW YORK, March 28, 2018 – Aviator glides into New York this week, offering a preview of The Lincoln Motor Company’s newest vehicle along with a glimpse into the brand’s future, which is moving toward a broader portfolio of utilities and electrification in conjunction with effortless services.

Client-focused technologies, services Aviator delivers a wealth of advanced technologies designed to assist the driver every step of the way.

As more consumers choose the spaciousness and capability of SUVs, Lincoln unveils Aviator, a distinctive three-row plug-in hybrid production preview. The “teaser” model serves to preview the direction Lincoln plans to take with its newest SUV when the production model goes on sale next year. “The Lincoln Navigator continues to turn heads and bring new clients to the brand,” says Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “We believe Aviator’s elegant design, state-of-the-art technology and refined plug-in hybrid option will draw even more clients to the Lincoln showroom, including families who are looking for threerow capability.” With its slim, tapered lines, roomy interior, twinturbocharged powertrain available with an advanced plug-in hybrid option, the three-row Aviator targets the heart of the premium market, entering the medium luxury SUV segment that represents more than a quarter of all premium SUVs sold. Appealing to millennials starting families, with the majority of vehicles sold to people ages 35 to 44, the medium luxury SUV segment saw sales of more than 585,000 vehicles in 2017. Aeronautical inspiration The synchronicity of Aviator’s name and form language is intentional; aeronautics has long inspired automotive design. The emphasis of graceful lines pulling downward toward the rear – a cue to Aviator’s rear-wheel-drive platform – is what Woodhouse describes as an in-flight gesture. “If you look at a bird or plane in flight, the wing is always at an angle to the air and falling downward toward the rear,” he says. “You see that in the main bodyline of Aviator. From the headlight to the taillight, there’s a beautiful undercut feature varying in depth that connotes poise and grace.” The iridescent Flight Blue exterior color complements Aviator’s elegant, flowing lines, while the signature Lincoln grille is executed in high-gloss black and chrome accents. A wraparound windshield helps complete the aviation-inspired theme. Comfort and convenience The effortless experience begins even before entering the Aviator, as owners can use their smartphone as a key. When it debuts on the production SUV, Phone as a Key technology is expected to be one of the industry’s leading systems. Activated through the Lincoln Way™ app, it allows owners to lock and unlock, open the trunk and, most importantly, start and drive the vehicle – no smart key fob is necessary. Phone as a Key is designed to offer other amenities similar to a smart key fob. For instance, drivers can activate a locator chirp to find Aviator in a crowded parking lot, or recall their personal profile. Should the phone battery go dead, a backup passcode can be entered on the standard exterior keypad to gain access, then clients can start and proceed to drive the vehicle via

With Aviator’s advanced forward camera scanning the road ahead, Lincoln’s first-ever Suspension Preview Technology seamlessly adjusts the suspension for upcoming road conditions. This can help reduce driver stress caused by potholes and bumps in the road.

the center touch screen. And, if the phone is lost or stolen, Phone as a Key can be easily deleted, providing additional peace of mind. Inside, Aviator’s spacious, airy cabin accentuates horizontal lines, minimizing visual clutter to deliver a soothing sanctuary. A thoughtfully designed steering wheel is intended for ultimate ease of use, with only subtle finger movements needed to access the many functions it houses. As comfort is paramount with Aviator, the amenities continue with Perfect Position seats offering 30-way adjustability and massage capability, while flexible secondrow seats can recline and slide forward for easy access to the spacious third row. Wireless phone charging is located in the front armrest, while a convenient media bin is available for passengers in front as well. Multiple power outlets are located throughout the cabin, while standard Wi-Fi ensures everyone stays connected. An all-new Lincoln Black Label-inspired theme harmoniously combines Shearling Beige and Lunar Gray to further elevate the ambience. Machine-turn aluminum appliqués, brushed in small circles to replicate the shape of early aviation instruments, enhance the theme. The supple leather of the seats is minimally processed to retain its natural texture.

Aviator will be equipped with Lincoln CoPilot360™, an advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane keeping system, reverse camera and auto highbeam lighting. Aviator offers Reverse Brake Assist, an enhanced driver-assist technology that integrates rear sensors and a camera to provide automatic braking if an obstacle is detected behind the vehicle. Aviator also debuts a selection of considerate prompts delivered through the newest version of SYNC®. With the introduction of these prompts, or cues, Lincoln advances the brand’s holistic approach to vehicle ownership by bringing those services into the car. The prompts are designed to deliver helpful information to drivers visually on the cluster display, recommending appropriate actions to help them overcome whatever situation they’re facing. Should they run low on fuel, for example, Aviator will notify them and seamlessly connect them with navigation to offer them the closest gas station options. media.lincoln.com

Power, capability and choice Built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, Aviator allows for the power and capability luxury clients require in a threerow SUV. The platform also serves to enhance Aviator’s elegant proportions, with a long wheelbase allowing for a spacious second and third row. The Lincoln powertrain is designed for clients interested in options. A twin-turbocharged engine can be paired with the brand’s first advanced plug-in hybrid technology, marking the first time the company will offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain mated to a twin-turbocharged engine. This combination of power and electrified capability will help Aviator deliver Lincoln’s quietest, smoothest, most powerful drive yet. Offering the capability of its twin-turbocharged engine in combination with a hybrid electric powertrain makes Aviator mightier than many supercars on the road today. The plug-in hybrid experience provides for a responsive, refined ride, with no powertrain-induced noise and vibration when operating on battery charge, yet is capable of using its twin-turbocharged engine if needed, easing range anxiety.

VINCENTRIC RECOGNIZES THE 2018 ELANTRA AS THE BEST VALUE COMPACT CAR IN THE U.S.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 27, 2018 – Hyundai’s reputation in delivering incredible value for its customers continues as leading cost and value analysis group Vincentric named the 2018 Elantra its Best Value award winner for the Compact class. This marks Elantra’s second Best Value award win and continues to highlight the longterm success of the model, which was also recently recognized as a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The Vincentric Best Value awards are given to vehicles which have lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price. The prize measures cost-of-ownership using eight different cost factors: depreciation, fees

& taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost and repairs.

With available safety features like Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist, standard Blue Link features and available Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Elantra shows that excellent value doesn’t need to forsake driver experience. “The Elantra is a great example of how we are pushing the standard for what is considered great value in this class,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Its design, driver experience, infotainment and available safety features are a testament to making value not just about the savings you get out of your vehicle, but the experience as well.”

“Our Best Value award highlights vehicles that deliver strong value throughout their lifecycle,” said David Wurster, president of Vincentric. “The

Elantra’s win showcases Hyundai’s ability to provide better total cost of ownership, delivering higher value to their customers in the segment.”

Hyundai Hope On Wheels Surpasses $145 Million To Research Celebrating Its 20th Year In The Fight To End Childhood Cancer FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March, 2018 – Today, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® (HHOW), a 501c3 nonprofit organization, celebrates its 20th year in the fight against pediatric cancer and announces plans to exceed $145 million toward pediatric cancer research. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, HHOW will host its annual launch event at the New York International Auto Show to recognize the grant award-winning institutions, doctors, and children affected by pediatric cancer. The campaign theme for this year is: 20 years of saving lives and creating hope, in the fight to end childhood cancer. HHOW also introduces two new 2018 National Youth Ambassadors: Elizabeth Blair (11) and Carter Gates (12). The launch event is hosted by awarding winning journalist and multimedia personality Soledad O’Brien, and special musical performances by Broadway’s Betsy Wolfe, Alton Fitzgerald White and the Broadway Youth Ensemble. This annual event takes place in conjunction with the preview night of the New York International Auto Show in the Jacob Javits Center at the Hyundai booth on Thursday, March 29th at 6:30 PM. Begun in 1998 by Hyundai and its U.S. dealers, HHOW is one of the longest continuously running CSR initiatives in the auto industry and is dedicated to helping kids fight cancer. The program was begun in the Boston, MA area and quickly traveled to support children’s hospital throughout the U.S. with research grants to help find cures and to improve care for children fighting cancer. “The fight to end childhood cancer remains a top priority for HHOW. Because of research, 80 percent of those kids can be cured. However, even one child who loses his/her battle is far too many,” says Brian Smith, Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor America. “For 20 years, Hyundai and its dealers have dedicated their mission to saving lives and creating hope. We want children to know that Hyundai is on their side.” Funding Research to Find A Cure In 2018, fifty-three (53) new institutions will receive a combined $15 million in pediatric cancer research grants. HHOW offers pediatric cancer research grants for Children’s Oncology of America member institutions in the U.S. The grant winners are chosen by a peerreviewed and competitive selection process. There are five HHOW grant categories: Impact Grant ($100,000), Young Investigator Grant ($200,000), Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant ($300,000), Hyundai Quantum Grant ($1 million) and the new Quantum Collaboration Grant ($2.5 million). Applications are graded by a panel of scientific reviewers, for their innovation and potential to increase discovery. Hope Is Always Worth Fighting For HHOW is committed to increasing awareness and celebrating the lives of child cancer survivors. Kids who fight cancer are brave, courageous and represent hope. They often go devastating treatments on their road to cure. Many continue with life-long health related issues as a consequence of cure. Our goal is to help kids not only survive, but to ensure these kids thrive in their lives

“A key priority for Hyundai dealers is to give back to society and to make sure children have the best possible future for success. We believe that future should be in a world that is free from pediatric cancer,” says Scott Fink, Board Chair and Hyundai dealer owner, Hyundai of New Port Richey. “We know that progress has been made in finding cures for pediatric cancer. With HHOW grants over the past 20 years, innovative therapies and new treatments have been developed. The Hyundai dealers’ across the nation are proud to support this important cause. But our work is not over, and you can count on the Hyundai dealers to remain committed to this fight for as long as it takes.” HHOW Grants Tour & Youth Ambassadors The HHOW Grants Tour is a nationwide effort from April to October to travel the country presenting grant checks ranging from $100,000 to $2.5 million to selected children’s hospitals and institution. At each event, we conduct our signature handprint ceremony, at which kids get to put their hands in paint and place it on the HHOW hero vehicle, 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe. These color handprints represent the dreams, journey and hopes of kids fighting cancer. They allow kids from across the nation to join hands in with a common purpose to fight this dreaded disease. Each doctor-grant recipient receives HHOW lab coat and is named a Hyundai Scholar. Our goal is to #Endchildhoodcancer Approximately 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in the U.S. This year HHOW travels the nation in a Hyundai Santa Fe – the official hope vehicle, to the children’s hospital grant winners. The vehicle serves as a canvas for hope, covered with handprints collected from children across the country battling this disease. In September, National Pediatric Cancer Awareness month, HHOW will announce a series of events across the nation to bring greater awareness about the issue. Supporters and followers of HHOW are invited to post photos or messages on social media using hashtag #EndChildhoodCancer.
