YOUR GRANDMOTHER’S CUPBOARD RECEIVES CAUSEWAY’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRANT By Kaitlyn Strohmeier In Celebration of The Causeway Family of Dealerships 50th Anniversary, we continue with our yearlong campaign - Causeway’s 50 Golden Acts of Good - to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. Anchoring this campaign is the Grant Giveaway program, through which Causeway awards a $10,000 grant to one Ocean County nonprofit every month, from January through November of 2019, culminating next December with the award of a New Ford Transit Connect Van. We are proud to announce our July $10,000 grant winner, Your Grandmother’s Cupboard. Did you know? More than 2.1 million New Jersey residents (25% of the state’s population) are living in poverty. Almost 14,000 adults and children in New Jersey are currently homeless. New Jersey has the 5th highest foreclosure rate in America… and a sudden accident, medical crisis or loss of job will cause more families now living paycheck -to -paycheck to lose their homes. Soup kitchens and food pantries are doing all they can to help, but there are so many “non-basic necessities” they simply cannot provide. Your Grandmother’s Cupboard was founded to meet those needs. Who is Your Grandmother’s Cupboard? Your Grandmother’s Cupboard (YGC) is a non-profit organization established by people who recognize the needs of the homeless and working poor in our communities. The Cupboard was established to provide some of these basic needs through local donations. Many people living in poverty often do not have access to transportation to visit thrift shops and pantries. This program is unique because they bring clothing, shoes, blankets, and personal care items to where they are needed most. Your Grandmother’s Cupboard is known best by word-of-mouth. Churches, Clubs and Social Services are typically where people hear of YGC.

Anyone in-need could go to their office in Toms River which is open five days a week and by appointment on weekends. As of now, YGC has two part-time employees and 39 volunteers. These volunteers drive anywhere from local Toms River, the 21 Counties in New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania! History In the winter of 2003, Jean and Clark Paradise became aware of three camps of homeless individuals living in the woods outside of Lakewood, NJ. With the help of Minister Steve Brigham, they started bringing blankets, clothing, and portable heaters to the camps. They soon learned that these folks were lacking personal care items like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. Answering the call to action, they asked friends and family to gather clothes, blankets and personal care items to bring to the tent city. The response was positive, the generosity more than they expected. They sought out others who would need the remaining donations. What they discovered was shocking. They found that there were many families living in motel rooms throughout Ocean County and hundreds more barely getting by, and so they continued to ask for donations and brought them to motels, the tent city, soup kitchens and shelters. As word spread about their ministry, they started to receive phone calls requesting help from church groups and individuals. As the need grew, so did their ambition and so Your Grandmother’s Cupboard was born. From a small donated space in Ocean County, they now operate from locations in Toms River, Wayne and Phillipsburg, the “Cupboard” has acquired three enclosed trailers and two mini-vans that are used to serve thousands of homeless and nearly homeless families and individuals every month throughout New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania. What should have been a quiet retirement for Jean and Clark has turned into a full time Both in their 80’s they visit over 25 soup kitchens, shelters and motels every month bringing a trailer full of donated clothes, blankets, books, food and toiletries. Mission For those living in poverty, simply having something to eat and a safe place to sleep are the top priorities in life. There is little money left for other necessities like clothes and shoes, diapers, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other personal care items. Although food kitchens and homeless shelters are doing all they

can to feed and house those living in poverty, there are so many “nonbasic necessities” they simply can’t provide. Your Grandmother’s Cupboard was started as a means of filling those needs. Volunteers at Your Grandmother’s Cupboard collect and Jean and Clark Paradise sort items to make them ready for distribution. This time consuming activity is a vital part of the ministry. We are always looking for willing hands that have an hour or two to spare to help.

Two major items they have to go out and purchase because they don’t receive a lot of donations for are diapers and baby formula. 1. There simply is no other organization anywhere in New Jersey, anywhere in the United States or anywhere in the world like Your Granmother’s Cupboard.

senior citizen villages, service clubs, churches, thrift stores and dedicated volunteers that provide and donate these items.

2. We are now providing almost 4,000 children and adults each month FREE clothing, shoes and other items and that number keeps growing. These are people in need, often in desperate circumstances, and for whom the Cupboard is often their only resource. In fact, it is up almost 1,000 from the previous year. This year, even with all the snowy days, we are now serving an additional 50 people at the Roslyn Plaza location and the same across the state.

In addition, the Cupboard has been able to recruit and train 15-20 dedicated volunteers that serve at the Cupboard every week and an additional number that serve in the outlying areas in the northeast and northwest. These are the people who process the donated items, sorting by size and gender, and either packing into our large plastic tubs or hanging on racks.

3. Of the 4,000 people we serve every month, approximately 2,500 are adults, with the rest being their young children. These “customers” normally leave with at least one bag of clothing and other supplies, usually much more. We limit the amounts of toilet paper, diapers and food, but almost every other item has no limit if it is the correct size. 4. The 2,500 adult “shoppers” every month, with each one taking a minimum of 10 items (and usually much, much more) means we need to have obtained, processed, put into tubs and distributed 25,000 items, primarily donated clothing and shoes every month. 5. Those numbers mean that we now are obtaining, processing and distributing 300,000 items of clothing, shoes and necessities of life every year. 6. This “supply chain” is made possible because over the years the Cupboard has developed a network of

The volunteers at our walk ins, food pantries and soup kitchens, then make these items available to people who really need and really want at no cost. 12. The Cupboard has become “God’s Recyclers” and it is God’s continuing help, along with help from special friends like you, who have made it all possible.

Upgrades will enable more patients to receive care through Southern Ocean Medical Center's diagnostic equipment. More than 1,000,000 cardiac catheterizations occur annually in the U.S. to diagnose the presence of heart, artery, or valve disease. Catheterizations also evaluate the functionality of heart muscle and determine whether there is a need for further treatment. "It is an honor and a privilege to be able to give back," Armellino said in a statement. "Southern Ocean Medical Center is my local hospital and I want to support the medical center's efforts to offer the most advanced cardiac care to help our community when they are in need. I could not be happier to contribute to this great project."

Grilled Shrimp with Mango, Lime and Radish Salsa Ingredients

12 large shrimp

4 to 5 red radishes, diced

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

1 red onion, diced

1 lemon, juiced Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper Salsa: 2 limes 2 mangoes, diced

1 tablespoon chili powder 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro leaves, chopped 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

In a large bowl, toss the prawns with the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Let marinate for about a half hour while you heat up the grill. Grill prawns on each side until they turn pink, about 5 minutes depending on size.

Remove the peel and pith from the limes and cut between the membranes to remove the segments. Put these "supremes" into a bowl and squeeze over the juice from the membranes. Add the remaining ingredients and mix; season with salt and pepper. Place warm grilled prawns on a platter and top with salsa.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Southern Regional alumnus Martin Truex Jr. won NASCAR’s Sonoma Race 350 on June 23. Truex, who graduated in 1998, currently ranks fifth in the NASCAR cup standings. He has 581 points, four wins and seven top-five finishes this season.

In Other Southern Regional News Two Southern Regional High School students placed first in an annual essay contest sponsored by the Garden Club of Long Beach Island. The first place winner for Grade 11 was Erica Barbera. The first place winner for Grade 10 was Sam Ferringo. The Garden Club of LBI promotes interest in gardening and cooperates with all programs for the improvement in

planting, conservation, environment and beautification of the island.

DEARBORN, Mich., June 27, 2019 – The 2020 F-Series Super Duty is delivering next-level capability in an all-new way – the Tremor Off-Road Package. Tremor pushes the boundaries of Super Duty off-road capability with new hardware and tech to handle rough terrain, providing greater towing and payload than Ram Power Wagon. This is the most capable off-road Super Duty ever. “A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work. They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them – more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.” The Tremor Off-Road Package is truly capable, as one would expect from Super Duty, with towing and payload ratings similar to non-Tremor models. Both workhorse and adventure machine, the package is available for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel. Tremor can be specified for 4x4 single-rear-wheel SuperCrew trucks with a 6.75-foot box; F-250 models also require the high-capacity trailer tow package.

Off-road upgrades start with a set of aggressive 35-inch-diameter Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac maximum-traction tires – the largest diameter tires available on a heavy-duty pickup – mounted on a set of unique 18-inch matte-finished black wheels. These tires, combined with a 2-inch front-end lift and shorter air dam, result in an impressive 10.8 inches of ground clearance, best-in-class water fording of 33 inches, and the best approach and departure angles of any Super Duty ever – 31.65 degrees and 24.51 degrees, respectively. also controlling body motion on rutted, rock-strewn trails. The rear stabilizer bar is tuned for a lower spring rate so customers experience less head toss over obstacles during severe suspension articulation.

with electronic shift-on-the-fly engagement and a new Dana® limitedslip front differential. In certain modes, the front axle can sense when a tire has lost traction and uses the brakes to send power to the wheel with traction.

Custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers work to control body motion. These massive shocks feature substantial oil volume that serves to keep internal temperatures low, while the large crosssection works to improve responsiveness. At very low speeds, they are tuned for soft damping, which is dialed up for control over more severe impacts. Internal hydraulic rebound helps soften the blow of the hardest hits.

Additional hardware includes off-road running boards that tuck up next to the body for damage control, extended-axle vent tubes and the same beefy skid plates as fitted to FX4 models.

Tremor uses a locking rear differential

The 2020 Super Duty Tremor features selectable drive modes, which allow customers to choose the setting best suited to driving conditions. These include normal for around-town use, tow/haul for optimized performance under load, eco for enhanced fuel economy, slippery

for icy conditions, and deep snow/sand for low-traction conditions. Unique to Tremor is a new rock-crawl mode, which is optimized to operate in 4x4 low and is enabled by the standard TorqShift® 10-speed automatic transmission. Tremor trucks equipped with the 7.3-liter gas engine have a 53:1 crawl ratio while those equipped with the 6.7-liter diesel engine have a 44:1 crawl ratio. For the first time ever, Super Duty gets Trail Control™, a feature that debuted for F-150 Raptor and Ranger. It functions in any mode like cruise control for off-road driving. The Tremor Off-Road Package will be available when the 2020 Super Duty launches later this year.

Power U.S. Initial Quality Study thanks to overall quality improvements that are outpacing the industry. Now in its 33rd year, the study measures vehicle quality by analyzing problems reported by owners in the first 90 days of ownership. Ford nameplates ranking tops in their segments are Ford Ranger for midsize pickups and Ford Fusion for midsize cars. “When it comes to quality, the all-new Ranger delivers on our Built Ford Tough promise to our customers,” says Linda Cash, Ford vice president, global quality. “To have both Ford and Lincoln rank among the top five brands affirms our commitment to delivering the best cars, SUVs and trucks for our owners.”

Built at the newly revamped Michigan Assembly Plant, Ranger went on sale in January. This marks the first time the midsize pickup has earned an Initial Quality Study award since 2006. Ford F-150 and Super Duty, along with Escape, Expedition and Flex rank in the top three of their respective segments. Combined, Ford and Lincoln have 10 top-three models in the study. The Lincoln Motor Company’s top-three models include Navigator, Nautilus and MKC. Lincoln’s strong SUV lineup drove first-quarter sales up 11.2 percent, with the new Navigator posting a 10 percent gain. Lincoln’s SUV momentum is expected to continue as two new SUVs – Aviator and Corsair – prepare for launch this year.
