THE ARC OF OCEAN COUNTY RECEIVES CAUSEWAY’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRANT
By Kaitlyn Strohmeier
In Celebration of The Causeway Family of Dealerships 50th anniversary, we continue with our yearlong campaign - Causeway’s 50 Golden Acts of Good - to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. Anchoring this campaign is the Grant Giveaway program, through which Causeway awards a $10,000 grant to one Ocean County nonprofit every month, from January through November of 2019, culminating next December with the award of a New Ford Transit Connect Van. We are proud to announce our October $10,000 grant winner, The Arc, Ocean County Chapter. History The Arc, Ocean County Chapter was established in 1955 as part of a national movement by parents of children with developmental disabilities. At this time, little was known about the condition and causes of intellectual disability and there were virtually no programs in communities to support families. Parents and other concerned citizens joined together to act as a voice for change and so began The Arc’s journey Today, The Arc, Ocean County Chapter is a thriving organization which continues to provide strong advocacy and extensive programs and services for people with disabilities to fully participate as active members of the local community. Mission Statement The Mission of The Arc, Ocean County Chapter, Inc. is to advocate, provide opportunities and supports necessary for all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be accepted and valued as citizens of the communities in which they choose to live, learn, work and play. RETIREMENT PLANS CAN BE SIMPLE
If you own a small business (or are self-employed), there are many retirement plan alternatives available to help you and your employees plan your financial future. One popular option for organizations such as sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and non-profit organizations to consider is the SIMPLE (Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees) Individual Retirement Account (IRA). Unlike some retirement plans, there are specific criteria a business must meet to participate in a SIMPLE IRA plan. Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about this type of retirement plan: Can any business establish a SIMPLE IRA plan? Self-employed individuals and employers with fewer than 100 employees may adopt a SIMPLE plan. However, the business must not maintain any other employer-sponsored retirement plan where contributions are made or accrued during the calendar year in which the SIMPLE plan is effective. (This does not apply to plans that cover only union employees who are excluded from the SIMPLE plan.) What is the deadline for establishing such a plan in order for it to qualify for the 2019 tax year? The IRS deadline for establishing SIMPLE IRA plans for the current year is October 1. After October 1, plans can only be established for the next tax year. An exception to October 1 exists if the business is a newly established company and has never sponsored a SIMPLE IRA plan. Which employees are eligible to participate in this type of plan?
An eligible employee is one who has received at least $5,000 in compensation from the employer during any two prior calendar years (does not need to be consecutive years) and who is reasonably expected to receive at least $5,000 compensation during the current year. In the plan’s initial agreement, the employer is able to reduce the amount of compensation and the number of years required. However, there is no required participation for Richard Galgano this plan – eligible employees can choose whether or not they want to participate and contribute. How much can employees contribute to the plan through salary deferral? The maximum salary deferral limit to a SIMPLE IRA plan for 2019 cannot exceed $13,000. If an employee is age 50 or older before December 31, then an additional catch-up contribution of $3,000 is permitted.
What are the maximum employer contribution limits for a SIMPLE IRA? Each year the employer must decide to do either a matching contribution (the lesser of the employee’s salary deferral or 3% of the employee’s compensation) or non-matching contribution of 2% of an employee’s compensation (limited to $280,000 for 2019). All participants in the plan must be notified of the employer’s decision. When must contributions be deposited? Employee deferrals should be deposited as soon as administratively feasible, but no later
than 30 days following the last day of the month in which the amounts would otherwise have been payable to the employee. These rules also apply to self-employed individuals. The employer contributions deadline is the due date of the employer’s tax return, including extensions. Can there be a vesting scheduled with a SIMPLE IRA? There is no vesting schedule with this type of plan – both employer and employee are immediately 100% vested. How are withdrawals from SIMPLE IRAs taxed? Withdrawals from this type of account are taxed as ordinary income. However, if a participant is younger than age 59½ and makes a withdrawal within the first two years of plan participation, he or she will owe a 25% IRS penalty and ordinary income taxes on the amount withdrawn. After the initial two years of plan participation, the 25% IRS penalty is reduced to 10% for pre 59½ withdrawals. Exceptions to the 10% penalty on traditional IRAs are also exceptions to the 25% penalty for SIMPLE IRAs. Direct transfers to another SIMPLE IRA will not be subject to this penalty. Can the assets in a SIMPLE IRA be rolled over? Participants are able to roll over funds from one SIMPLE plan to another at any time. After two years of participation, employees may roll assets to a traditional or SEP IRA without tax penalties. As with any investment alternative, you should check with your Financial Advisor to evaluate the best option for your financial situation.

HEY PARENTS, YOUR CAR SEAT HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE!
September is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month, and Nissan has 10 child passenger safety tips for drivers transporting little loved ones.
caregivers to read their child restraint system’s owner’s manual to ensure proper installation and use of car seats and boosters.
Nissan safety engineers spend thousands of hours evaluating child safety seats by installing them in the rear seats of current Nissan and INFINITI vehicles. The result is the Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a child restraint system that best fits their vehicle.
“I’m often asked which car seat is the best, and my response is the one you can install and use correctly every time,” Sanders says.
“Passenger safety is at the core of everything we do at Nissan. Our Snug Kids® team of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians performs more than 6,400 car seat checks in our vehicles each year to help ensure a proper fit,” said Brandon Sanders, Nissan product safety engineer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages one to 13. Many of these deaths could be prevented with the proper use of child restraint systems or child safety seats. Nissan Product Safety Engineer Brandon Sanders reminds all parents and
Nissan Snug Kids® Not all car seats fit in all vehicles, and choosing the appropriate child restraint system can be confusing. Nissan’s Snug Kids program exists to help make that process easier. Launched in 2002, Snug Kids is an industry-first car seat installation program explicitly geared toward child passenger safety. According to statistics from the CDC, black (45%) and Hispanic (46%) children are less likely to be buckled up compared to white (26%) children. Nissan has created an award-winning social media program, the “Nissan Presents: Bloggin’ Mamas Safety Academy,” to educate these communities in the area of child passenger safety leveraging the expertise of Nissan’s Snug Kids engineers.

Ruby Courtesy of Lincoln
Ruby is an exotic looking 16 week old black female with a small white patch on her chest. She was raised in one of our loving foster homes with other cats and a calm, quiet dog so she would be good with both. She is very affectionate and playful. She is spayed, has had age appropriate vaccinations, tested negative for fiv and felv and microchipped. You can meet this pretty little girl in Petsmart in Manahawkin along with her sister, Daisy and her brother Lazer. An application to adopt can be filled out on line at Fosocas.org or in person at Petsmart in Manahawkin, N.J.
LINCOLN CONTINENTAL, LINCOLN NAUTILUS EARN TOP RATINGS IN AUTOPACIFIC IDEAL VEHICLE AWARDS Lincoln Continental and Lincoln Nautilus continue to impress and meet the discerning expectations of luxury clients. Based on owner feedback, Lincoln Continental has earned best-in-class honors for luxury cars in AutoPacific’s 2019 Ideal Vehicle Awards while Lincoln Nautilus takes the top spot among executive luxury SUVs. The awards recognize vehicles that are ideal for their owners, with respondents rating 14 attributes ranging from technology offerings to interior quietness. The AutoPacific awards are based on responses
from more than 50,000 owners of new vehicles across all major manufacturers. “Our Ideal Vehicle Awards speak to a vehicle’s layout and design,” says AutoPacific president George Peterson. “Giving owners a chance to tell us what they would change and how they would change it reveals which vehicles are best designed to meet their needs and expectations.” Earlier this year, Lincoln Continental and Lincoln Nautilus also earned AutoPacific’s 2019 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, a key industry benchmark for measuring
how satisfied owners are with their new vehicles. Continental earned best-in-class luxury car in vehicle satisfaction as well as top car in vehicle satisfaction, while Nautilus was named best-in-class among luxury crossover SUVs. Lincoln’s momentum continues with the recent launch of the all-new Aviator and Aviator Grand Touring, as well as with the all-new Corsair, launching this fall.
Raleigh Raleigh is a loving and friendly girl! She loves to be around people, and has a lot of energy! She needs a family that has the time and energy to continue her training and give her lots of exercise!

2020 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID ACHIEVES EPA-RATED 48 MPG CITY AND BEST-IN-CLASS HORSEPOWER
Featuring best-in-class horsepower, EPA city and combined fuel economy ratings of 48 mpg1 , and standard Honda Sensing® technology, the 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid begins arriving in dealer showrooms tomorrow with a starting price of $25,4702 (excluding $930 destination and handing), making it the most affordable midsize hybrid sedan in America.
Alert System (AVAS) that functions whenever the car is operating on electric power only (unless in Park), enhancing awareness for pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users.
With sales up 70 percent through the end of August, the Ohio-made Accord Hybrid is helping power Honda toward a second consecutive annual record for sales of electrified vehicles in America. The Accord Hybrid is in a tight race with its compact-class cousin, the Honda Insight, to be Honda’s top selling hybrid. Sales of the two hybrid models combined are up 139 percent for the first eight months of the year.
The 2020 Accord Hybrid is powered by the third generation of Honda’s innovative two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain, with an EPA fuel economy rating of 48 mpg in city and combined cycles1. The two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain joins a 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC® Atkinson-cycle engine with 40-percent thermal efficiency to an electric propulsion motor that churns out 232 lb.-ft. of torque for a class-leading total system output of 212 horsepower. The unique twomotor system operates without the need for a conventional automatic transmission and was named to the 2019 Wards 10 Best Engines list.
New to the Accord Hybrid for 2020 is an updated Acoustic Vehicle
The 2020 Accord Hybrid offers midsize sedan shoppers the same
combination of performance, refinement, technology, and value as the non-hybrid Accord, a recipe that has made Accord the winner of dozens of awards and accolades since its introduction, including 2018 North American Car of the Year. The 10th-gen Accord has been called “America’s Best Sedan” by Car and Driver, and Accord is the all-time leader in the magazine’s “10 Best” awards with 33 appearances on the coveted list. All Honda Accords for the U.S. market are manufactured exclusively at Honda’s Marysville, Ohio, auto plant. The Accord Hybrid’s 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder is manufactured at the company’s Anna, Ohio engine plant, and the two-motor system is assembled at the company’s Raymond, Ohio transmission plant. All are manufactured using domestic and globally-sourced parts.
2019 HONDA PASSPORT EARNS IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK RATING The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2019 Honda Passport a TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating. Passport comes with Honda Sensing® standard on all trims. In addition to CMBS™, Honda Sensing® includes Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The 2019 Passport is the eighth Honda model to receive a top safety rating from the IIHS. The 2019 Honda Accord, CR-V, HR-V, Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline all received TSP, while Insight earned TOP SAFETY PICK+. Separately, every Honda model that has been fully evaluated in the NHTSA’s 2019 model year NCAP testing, including the 2019 Passport, has received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score.

2 ANNUAL CAUSEWAY 5K RAISES OVER $10K ND
By Chad Scanlon
With over $10,000 raised for The Food Bank of Ocean and Monmouth County (now Fulfill), the 2nd Annual Causeway Golden 5k Run/Walk was a big success. Fulfill is much more than a food pantry. Their primary goal is to combat hunger in our local community, and they go beyond simply collecting donations in a food bin. Through educational programs aimed at helping people understand their overall health, offering culinary classes for aspiring food workers, and participating in school lunch programs, Fulfill hopes to prevent hunger as well as treat it. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of volunteers from The Causeway Family of Dealerships and Clamtown Crossfit, Fulfill’s efforts in our local community can have an even greater impact. The winner of the 5k race, Southern Regional alumnus Nick Nocco, finished in a blazing 17 minutes and 17 seconds, setting what is likely to be a course record for some time. Nick is a grad student at Rowan and an assistant coach for their cross country program. The first place female, Kim Colasanti, crossed the finish line with her favorite running partner, her beautiful Labrador- Lana. Her brisk finish of 24 minutes and 9 seconds would’ve been even faster had Lana not needed a bathroom break along the way! The attractive course started by the 11/12 Building of Southern Regional High School and ended on the track after winding through the beautiful Kara
Homes development. It was suggested that last year’s course, the often-used 3.1 mile loop course starting at the Stafford Municipal Complex and using Hilliard Blvd and Bay Ave to arrive back at the complex, be moved. While it is a simple and flat route, it is heavy with motor vehicle traffic and not very scenic. Though a few people weren’t fond of the couple hills along the way, the new course was a big hit and is sure to draw an even bigger crowd next year.
As part of Causeway’s ongoing 50 Golden Acts of Good in celebration of its 50th year serving the community, the Golden 5k was the second bookend of two big community events. Earlier this year we saw the Summer in Winter Carnival, a free event that featured carnival-style attractions and gave over two dozen non-profits exposure to the community. Along the way, one charity or non-profit has been chosen every month to receive a $10,000 donation. The 50 Golden Acts of Good will culminate with Causeway giving away a Transit Connect Van, currently clad in gold and dubbed the “Golden Van of Good,” to another local non-profit. Although this year is special because it’s Causeway’s 50th Anniversary, its owner, David Wintrode Sr., isn’t doing anything drastically different than he has for the previous 49 years. Causeway has long held to a philosophy of philanthropy, going above and beyond to serve the needs of the local community, a tradition that is sure to endure for the next 50.

HYUNDAI PALISADE EARNS WARDS 10 BEST USER EXPERIENCES™ AWARD
Recognized for its host of driver convenience and technology features, the all-new Hyundai Palisade lands a spot on the competitive 2019 Wards 10 Best User Experiences list. The honor evaluates the user-friendliness of the driver-assist technologies and the access to information and entertainment options without distraction. The wellequipped Palisade was acknowledged for its host of convenient technology features including a 10-inch navigation display, 12-inch TFT cluster, wireless charging, seven USB outlets, secondrow ventilated seats and innovative roof-based diffuser vents – making it easy for both driver and passengers to interact with the vehicle.
Nick Nocco - 5K Winner
“The Wards 10 Best UX recognition reaffirms the importance of convenient and helpful technologies inside a vehicle,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “The hours of research and real-world evaluations by our engineering community are seen in the all-new Palisade with the user-friendly displays, high quality materials and a suite of advanced safety systems all at an outstanding value compared to the competition.”
