FAMILY PROMISE OF SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY RECEIVES CAUSEWAY’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRANT By Elizabeth Golla In Celebration of The Causeway Family of Dealerships’ 50th anniversary, we continue with our yearlong campaign - Causeway’s 50 Golden Acts of Good - to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. Anchoring this campaign is the Grant Giveaway program, through which Causeway awards a $10,000 grant to one Ocean County nonprofit every month, from January through November of 2019, culminating next December with a New Ford Transit Connect Van. We are proud to announce our November $10,000 grant winner, Family Promise of Southern Ocean County. Imagine a happy family: Mom, Dad, and two young daughters who have been renting their home locally in Southern Ocean County for over 10 years, establishing roots in the community; creating a home for their family. One day, they come home to a notice on their door stating the home has been bought in a sheriff sale and they have 30 days to vacate the property. Their entire world is about to be thrown upside down. They never missed a rental payment, no problems with the landlord. Their daughters have only known this as their home. What you don’t know is that their landlord did not pay the mortgage and let the house go into foreclosure, allowing it to be sold while this family was none the wiser.

David Wintrode General Manager, Corey Gellis General Sales Manager, Chris Varner Used Vehicle Merchandising Manager, Joe Stroffolino Director of Advertising and Marketing, Elizabeth Golla Executive Director of Family Promise of Southern Ocean County, Eileen Hepp Board Member, Tammy Staub Office Assistant, Kate Krier Board Member Secretary, Sarah Campbell Family Consultant, and Dave Wintrode President of Causeway Family of Dealerships.

Situations like this have become more common. The perceived face of homelessness is not a scary person. It is your neighbor. They are children and families in our community. In our schools and churches. Your coworker. Your child’s teacher. Never being in this situation before, they quickly pull together all their money and look for a new rental. Mom is 9 months pregnant. During their 30 days of trying to find a new rental, scramble money for a new security deposit and first month’s rent, finding a storage unit to hold all their belongings, having to let some go, still getting one daughter on the bus, keeping a toddler occupied and deciding what to do with their sweet lab mix dog, Mom went into labor, giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. Upon being discharged from the hospital, they find that they are now officially homeless. They reach out for help and are told they are not eligible for assistance because Dad has a job and an income. While trying to navigate this chaotic situation, Dad loses his job and the family was placed in emergency housing

in a motel 45 minutes away from where they used to reside. The motel was also housing drug addicts, criminals, and not a safe location for them. This family, with a baby only days old, was now about to spend Thanksgiving living out of their car and the floor of this tiny scary motel. They had to give up their beloved dog, who had grown with their family, to a friend; fearful to have to surrender the dog to a shelter and lose her forever. The next day someone gave this family information about Family Promise of Southern Ocean County. The family was skeptical. Is this a shelter? Will it be safe? Will they have food for all of them? Will it be another dead end? Family Promise staff conducted an intake with them and was quickly able to discuss, then bring them into the program. Family Promise, partnered with PetSmart, allowed the family to keep their beloved dog by placing them into our “Pets with a Promise” program. They got settled into the homelike day center and then transitioned in the evening into our host site with their own private room to sleep. They were greeted with smiling faces and a hug. The volunteer at the host site got down on her knees and started playing with the children. She grabbed a cup of coffee for Mom and Dad and assured them to have a seat and relax. The family could finally breathe and know that they were safe. Elizabeth Golla, Executive Director of Family Promise of Southern Ocean County shared her conversation with this family’s father and shared in his pain. He said “We have never been in this situation before. I feel like I failed my family. How could I let this happen to my wife and kids? When we went to get help we got turned away. Everywhere we tried said they couldn’t help. I lost all faith in humanity. In my community. Then I come into this program. And I have never seen or felt love like this before. The staff and volunteers are like family. They didn’t know about my whole situation, but they were there to make sure my kids and my family were safe and that we were taken care of. My community really did care about my family. I just never knew people could care so much”, she recalls.

The family worked the program and everyone watched that little baby start to grow. They successfully found employment, worked on budgeting and moved into their home. They came back from time to time to visit, sharing how they were doing and we watched their children grow. Mom now is planning on going back to school to get a degree in counseling, so that she then can get a job helping others in ways she was able to receive help. “We are all family now.

Ways you can help! • Family Promise of Southern Ocean County offers many meaningful opportunities for volunteers. Prepare a meal. Read a story to a toddler. Help write a resumé. Donate furniture, clothes, supplies or just offer compassion and support. Our program offers many ways to get involved. You can make a difference for neighbors in need. • For more information about how to get involved in any of our programs, please call the office (609)-994-3317 or email FPSOCstaff@gmail.com • If you are a student interested in internship opportunities, please contact us! We will be bonded forever. We will always be so grateful for all of the volunteers and staff that helped our family”. There are no existing shelter facilities in the region, leaving homeless families with no options. Many are hardworking, educated people who are faced with sudden job loss, a major illness or a tragic accident. They find themselves spiraling into debt and unable to make ends meet. Others are courageous victims of domestic violence, forced to flee their homes. More than half are women and children. Family Promise of Southern Ocean County (FPSOC) is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, providing temporary shelter, meals, supportive services and intensive programming for families experiencing homelessness. This is accomplished with the participation of local congregations, community organizations, dedicated staff, and hundreds of volunteers. Through community involvement, FPSOC helps Ocean County families achieve sustainable independence, regain their dignity, and find a place to call home. Family Promise of Southern Ocean County was established in 2009 to address the crucial need for family emergency housing in Southern Ocean County, New Jersey. They are an affiliate of the national Family Promise organization, founded over 30 years ago by Karen Olsen.

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING — AND WHY DOES IT FALL ON A THURSDAY?

two, but five American presidents to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. She never gave up, and eventually lucked out with none other than Abraham Lincoln.

As you baste your turkey, brainstorm your Thanksgiving menu, and assemble your famous pecan pie this year, that's a question that'll likely be on your mind...especially if you're the parent of little ones. After all, Thanksgiving may be a holiday all Americans know and love, but the true origins of the food-filled celebration remain slightly mysterious—even to those of us who were taught the basic details in grade school. The events that precipitated our modern day celebrations occurred long ago, before photos (and way before Instagram captions), and very little of what actually went down at that first Thanksgiving table was codified in writing.

As the Civil War raged on, Lincoln believed that Thanksgiving might help to unite the divided country. He declared it a national holiday in 1863, and kept Thanksgiving as the last Thursday in November. Washington's idea was finally brought to life, and it was at this time that Thanksgiving became a bona fide, official holiday on the American calendar.

Is that why Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November?

So, how are we to answer our most pressing questions about the holiday? And more importantly, how are we to answer our family members' questions? Interestingly, most of what we do know about the first Thanksgiving comes from the diary of Plymouth, Massachusetts, governor William Bradford. His manuscript, Of Plymouth Plantation, details his voyage to the new world, his efforts to settle in Plymouth, and many important events thereafter, including one particularly fateful dinner that took place in the fall of 1621. Here, we're sharing some of his stories with you in the hopes that they'll add a little more meaning to each and every one of the Thanksgiving recipes, Thanksgiving desserts, Thanksgiving crafts, and even leftover sandwiches you whip up this year. Most of all, we hope this newfound knowledge amplifies your gratitude and makes you appreciate all that you have— because that's what's really at the heart

Not quite. The story doesn't end there.

no mention of pie!).

of Thanksgiving.

What is the real story behind Thanksgiving? Bradford noted in his manuscript that the pilgrims of Plymouth had enjoyed an especially good harvest in the fall of 1621. In honor of their good fortune, they planned a meal to celebrate and give thanks for the abundance of food. The local Wampanoag natives had worked along with the pilgrims to hunt, fish, and gather much of that food—and they'd even taught the pilgrims about many of those tactics in the first place. For that reason, they joined in to give thanks for it all (and yes, there was a cooked fowl dish, noted Bradford, but

This peaceful dinner between natives and settlers may seem a bit dubious to some, given the tensions between the two groups. But it's exactly that concept of two cultures coming together that made the dinner so memorable and important to our country's history. In that same spirit of joining together to give thanks, the tradition of "thanksgiving" would eventually continue in the U.S.

How did Thanksgiving become an official holiday? By 1789, the "thanksgiving" tradition was still not a holiday. Bradford's manuscript with the actual accounts of that first Thanksgiving

had yet to be published, so there was little public interest in the entire thing. And while it's reported that George Washington called for a "national thanksgiving" on the last Thursday of November that year, a declaration like that essentially amounted to a nice, thoughtful idea. Things still weren't official. It wasn't until the diary made its way to the hands of magazine editor Sarah Josepha Hale in the 1800s that things began to take shape. Passed down through generations and across centuries, it finally landed in her lap... and Hale was allegedly so moved after reading about the first Thanksgiving dinner that she began a serious letterwriting campaign, urging not one, not

On December 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to change the date to the fourth Thursday in November instead of the last Thursday. The reasoning behind his decision? On most years, there are only four Thursdays in November in the first place, but on those years when there are five, Roosevelt felt that moving the celebration up a week would be beneficial to the economy. Whatever you say, Mr. President! These days, the vast majority of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving with a delicious feast among friends and family on that fourth Thursday of November. As for benefiting the economy... well, if stocking up on mashed potato ingredients, cranberry sauce, and apple pie supplies doesn't do the trick, we definitely pull our weight on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We'll eat to that!

(about 1 3/4 pounds), peeled and cubed 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed 1 teaspoon pure vanilla

Directions

1.

Ingredients

For the sweet potatoes: Add 1 3/4 pounds peeled and cubed sweet potatoes to a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then lower the heat to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are very tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and cool. Mash the sweet potatoes.

extract

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 2 large eggs

1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted

Topping:

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup chopped pecans

For the filling: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.

Whisk together the butter, mashed sweet potatoes, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and eggs in a large bowl. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.

4.

For the topping: Combine the flour, brown sugar, butter and salt in a medium bowl until moist and the mixture clumps together. Stir in the pecans. Spread the mixture over the top of the sweet potatoes in an even layer. Bake until mostly set in the center and golden on top, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve hot.

1 1/4 pounds unsalted butter, room temperature 3/4 cup granulated sugar 3 extra-large eggs

3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Topping: 1 pound unsalted butter 1 cup good honey

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

3 cups light brown sugar, packed

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon grated lemon

zest 1 teaspoon grated orange zest 1/4 cup heavy cream 2 pounds pecans, coarsely chopped

Directions

1. 2.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

For the crust, beat the butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, until light, approximately 3 minutes. Add the eggs and the vanilla and mix well. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients into the batter

with the mixer on low speed until just combined. Press the dough evenly into an ungreased 18 by 12 by 1-inch baking sheet, making an edge around the outside. It will be very sticky; sprinkle the dough and your hands lightly with flour. Bake for 15 minutes, until the crust is set but not browned. Allow to cool.

3.

For the topping, combine the butter, honey, brown sugar, and zests in a large, heavy-

bottomed saucepan. Cook over low heat until the butter is melted, using a wooden spoon to stir. Raise the heat and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream and pecans. Pour over the crust, trying not to get the filling between the crust and the pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the filling is set. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until cold. Cut into bars and serve.

FAST CARS, FASTER HORSES: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY

Postino›s Champion was claimed by the King Of Hearts Stable on June 23, 2019 from Law Legacy Stables.

One of our Ford Sales Managers Wallace Moore has had an interest in horse racing since he was a little boy, often visiting the racetracks with his family. Growing up around the races at Monmouth Park, he dreamed of becoming a horse owner one day. He and his wife Bridget, decided after starting their family and having two beautiful little boys Wallace III and Brogan, this horse would fit their family perfectly.

BACK IN THE SADDLE Hinting at upcoming Bronco production model, Ford’s Bronco R race prototype debuts in the desert to celebrate 50th anniversary of Rod Hall’s historic Baja 1000 win, an overall victory in a 4x4 that’s never been duplicated in 50 years It was built for this, its engine roaring through the heat of the Mojave and its racing tires spraying desert sand. As the last grain settled, the vehicle that is all at once a tribute and a test and a tease, came in to focus. It was no mirage. Bronco – in the form of a race-inspired Bronco R prototype – is back.

“Bronco’s win at Baja in 1969 was epic, something that even after 50 years has not been repeated,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product development and purchasing officer. “Rugged endurance racing is such a big part of Bronco heritage. Postino›s Champion worked hard, alongside her new trainer and Causeway customer Joseph Pantaleo winning Race 6 on October 13, 2019 at Monmouth Park. Today, Postino›s Champion is enjoying her winter at a local farm, and enjoying some much needed R&R.

EDGE EARNS INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY TOP SAFETY PICK The redesigned 2019 Ford Edge has earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, capturing “good” ratings across all six aspects of crashworthiness testing. IIHS credits several new safety advances in the 2019 Ford Edge in awarding the vehicle with its Top Safety Pick for midsize SUVs.

The exterior incorporates 15 LED lightbars from Rigid, including a grille sequence framing the new BRONCO brand lettering boldly. To underscore that this is a one-of-a-kind racing prototype, the “R” is given a sharp graphic treatment. Washers inscribed with the Bronco name are visible at various points around the exterior and secure the composite skin to the roll cage beneath it.

“We are really pleased the insurance industry places such a high degree of trust in our 2019 Ford Edge,” said Angela Cascaden, Ford Edge Marketing Manager “It not only offers a number of innovative safety features for passengers, it backs that all up with a host of driverassist technologies designed to

A unique race-focused interior features lightweight off-road racing shells from Recaro for all three seating positions. help improve confidence behind the wheel.” The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety cites the vehicle’s body structure for improving its crashworthiness, along with standard front crash prevention features and available LED projector headlamps with curve-adaptive technology built after March 2019. Edge also scored a top IIHS rating in driver and passenger small overlap front-end collision testing, moderate overlap front impact testing, side impact testing and roof impact crash testing. Edge also received a top rating for the performance of its head restraints and seats.

Eleven different Rangers pocketed at least one steal as Drew surpassed the former record of 18 set in a 73-63 win over Salve Regina on Jan. 5, 2001. Drew forced the Nittany Lions (01) into 30 turnovers.

Senior guard Riley Collins led the way with a strong all-around performance, shooting 4-for6 from beyond the arc and posting 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Junior forward Lybrant Robinson notched 15 points and four assists in his Drew debut while sophomore guard David Gervase netted 13 points in just 13 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-for-7 and 3-for-3 from distance. FAMILY PROMISE from Page 1

to computers for job/housing searches, and shower/laundry facilities. At the Day Center, family guests participate in an intensive programming with a family consultant. They set attainable goals, and meet regularly to monitor progress towards the long-term goal of self-sufficiency and permanent housing. Families learn about financial planning, career building, life skills, mental health coping strategies, parenting, and more. FPSOC’s success rate is consistently high. Last year, 88% of FPSOC families secured housing. To help ensure selfsufficiency, each family’s progress is monitored for approximately 2 years after program completion.

FPSOC ACCOMPLISHMENTS Family Promise of Southern Ocean County (FPSOC) opened their Day Center in Barnegat on January 25, 2009. Since then, the number of participating host congregations has increased to 21, with over 200 volunteers recruited to assist with everything from meals to childcare to financial guidance. In 2018, FPSOC served 920 individuals -- nearly half of those in need were children. At that time, it was determined that a larger facility was needed. In Spring of 2019, Family Promise of Southern Ocean relocated their Day Center to West Creek, New Jersey and celebrated with a ribbon cutting and Grand Opening on October 25, 2019 In December of 2016, Elizabeth Golla moved from the case manager to the Executive Director for Family Promise of Southern Ocean County. She also serves on the Homelessness Prevention and Assistance Coalition and Barnegat Communities That Care Committee. In June 2019, FPSOC Executive Director, Elizabeth Golla was selected as a featured Ocean/Monmouth County Non-Profit Leader in recognition of her dedication to Family Promise of Southern Ocean County and the community. Recognizing Elizabeth’s dedication and drive towards Family Promise, in September of 2019, the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore awarded Elizabeth the Phenom Award, presented to Phenomenal Women Under 40, which recognizes emerging leaders from Monmouth and Ocean counties not only for their accomplishments to date, but also for the potential of what they might achieve in their future.

HOMELESSNESS IN OCEAN COUNTY AND ITS EFFECT ON CHILDREN The statistics are devastating. Ocean County’s homeless population rose 38% from 2017 to 2018, four times the 9% average increase throughout the state (Asbury Park Press, March 14, 2018). In 2018, the three top reasons leading to homelessness were domestic violence, eviction and job loss/decrease in pay. Last year, 22% of Ocean County’s homeless were young children. According to the American Psychological Association, homelessness has particularly adverse effects on children and youth, including poor physical and mental health, and missed educational opportunities. They lack stability in their

Family Promise Day Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Young boy in program lives. Schooling is often interrupted and delayed. Homeless children are twice as likely to have a learning disability, repeat a grade or be suspended. Homelessness and hunger are closely intertwined. Hunger has negative effects on the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of children. One-in-five homeless preschoolers have emotional problems that require professional care.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES Family Promise of Southern Ocean County’s mission is to partner with communities to guide homeless children and their families toward achieving sustainable independence. To achieve this goal, Family Promise of Southern Ocean County has the following objectives: • Provide emergency shelter for families, and permit parents and children to remain together through their time of crisis. Provisions are also made for family pets due to a partnership with PetSmart and local fostering families. • Offer program services and case management from licensed professionals to help families get back on their feet, learn life skills, parenting techniques, financial literacy, the opportunity to

return to school for higher education, gain employment, and find affordable, stable housing. • Provide nutritious meals and support with the assistance of generous volunteers from local congregations and organizations working together to serve the community. • Provide career guidance and referrals to appropriate agencies for job training, and family services to help ensure sustainable self-sufficiency. Family Promise of Southern Ocean County’s EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM FPSOC provides emergency shelter and meals 365 days a year to local families in need through a network of over 20 local faith and community-based organizations. Families with children (up to 14 individuals at a time) spend the night at rotating host sites each week. Dedicated volunteers provide a safe, comfortable, temporary home-like setting for their guests, including a place to sleep, eat, do homework, socialize, and relax together. The Day Center serves as home base during the day for families in the network. It provides an address and phone number for potential employers, access

The target population FPSOC serves includes homeless families with at least one child under the age of 18. The adult family member(s) must be able to work, have a vehicle for transportation, have no criminal background, no current drug or alcohol dependencies/issues, and have no untreated mental health or physical health issues. The geographic scope focuses on the southern portion of Ocean County, however FPSOC also takes in overflow families from Toms River, Lakewood, and both Atlantic and Monmouth Counties. If a homeless family (or individual) approaches FPSOC for assistance, but they do not qualify for the Emergency Shelter Program, FPSOC still offers them supportive services and referrals to community resources. The quickest growing segment of New Jersey’s homeless population are families. Family Promise of Southern Ocean County builds programs from existing resources so they can be implemented quickly and without major start-up costs. They still rely on the generosity of individuals, foundations, businesses, and congregations for support. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) latest ratings for front crash prevention systems in midsize sedans ranked model year 2019 and 2020 Nissan Maxima as ‘superior’ and model year 2019 and 2020 Nissan Altima as ‘advanced.’ Nissan believes meaningful technology should not be limited to luxury models and is working diligently to offer features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection across its lineup. “The well-being of those inside our cars is just as important as the well-being of those outside our vehicles,” said Rob Warren, director, and chief marketing manager, Nissan North America. “AEB with Pedestrian Detection is announced as standard or available on 10 Nissan vehicles for the 2020 model year, and we’re working on expanding the technology further as quickly as possible.” AEB with Pedestrian Detection is standard on the Nissan Maxima for 2020, helping Maxima join just one other non-luxury model earning a superior rating. Not far behind among midsize cars, the Nissan Altima is rated among the advanced vehicles in its class. The IIHS evaluation consists of three tests each at two speeds, resulting in six possible outcomes. The Maxima was the only tested vehicle to altogether avoid the obstacle in all six performed tests. “Carmakers often roll out these kinds of advanced systems in more expensive luxury lines or as expensive options, so the superior performance of the standard systems on the more mainstream Maxima is noteworthy,” said IIHS President David Harkey.

2020 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN AND COUPE ARRIVING AT DEALERS AS AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR PASSENGER CAR Thoroughly refreshed last year, the 2020 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe begin arriving at dealerships tomorrow with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $19,7501 (excluding $930 destination and handling). The refreshed styling from last year and numerous interior upgrades carry over to the 2020 model as Civic continues its run as the retail best-selling car in America three years running1.

HONDA CR-V: AMERICA’S FAVORITE CROSSOVER GETS SIGNIFICANT UPGRADES IN TECHNOLOGY, FEATURES AND LX POWERTRAIN

The refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V, an updated take on America’s most popular crossover, begins arriving in dealerships tomorrow with a refreshed exterior design, new and upgraded features, and a new turbocharged powertrain for the popular LX trim, along with standard Honda Sensing® technologies on all grades. With cumulative U.S. sales now topping the 5-million-unit mark, the 2020 model looks to extend CR-V’s position as the best-selling crossover in America over the past 22 years. The 2020 CR-V goes on sale with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price starting at $25,0501 (excluding destination and handling charges) for the front-wheel-drive LX model, an increase of just $600 despite the addition of Honda Sensing and a

more powerful and efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged engine to the LX trim. An all-new, even more powerful and fuel-efficient hybrid-electric CR-V will join the lineup early next year. All 2020 CR-Vs benefit from new front and rear exterior styling cues, including a redesigned front bumper and grille, and new headlight designs. EX and EX-L trims also get redesigned alloy wheels, while Touring grades get new 19-inch (+1 in.) wheels and tires. The 2020 model also debuts three new exterior colors: Radiant Red Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Aegean Blue Pearl. Inside, CR-V’s spacious and techsavvy cabin gets a redesigned center console with more conveniently located USB ports and more flexible

storage space, while the line-topping CR-V Touring adds a heated steering wheel and wireless smartphone charging. Mechanically, the biggest change to the 2020 CR-V is the addition of the 1.5-liter turbocharged direct-injected engine for the popular LX trim, which replaces a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine. For the LX, this means more power (+6 horsepower), a flatter torque curve (179 lb.-ft. @ 2000-5000 rpm vs. 180 lb.-ft. @ 3900 rpm) and a higher EPA fuel economy rating (+2 mpg city/highway/combined).

New last year for Coupe and Sedan, the Civic Sport quickly became the second most popular trim in the Civic lineup. Unique styling within the Civic lineup includes a black-painted rear spoiler, black grille, fog lights with gloss black trim and a center-mounted chrome exhaust finisher styled after Civic Si. Sport interiors feature red gauges, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, paddle shifters on CVT-equipped models, textured aluminum sport pedals and Sportspecific seat materials with a combination of synthetic

leather and cloth. Powering Sport trims is a responsive 2.0-liter engine and available 6-speed manual transmission. Handling is improved with trimexclusive shock absorbers and rear lower control arms, and a stiffer front stabilizer bar. In addition, all Sport trims have 18-inch wheels wrapped in the same allseason performance tires as Civic Si. Power for the 2020 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe LX and Sport trims comes from a 2.0-liter 4-cyliner engine producing 158 horsepower (SAE net) and 138 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net) connected to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT), with paddle shifters on Sport trims. Civic EX, EX-L and Touring trims are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with peak output of 174 horsepower (SAE net) and 167 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net) with a 6-speed manual, or 162 lb.-ft. (SAE net) with the CVT.

Importantly, the CR-V LX also gets Honda Sensing® safety and driverassistive technologies as standard equipment, extending these popular features throughout the CR-V lineup.
