Thank You To All The Hospitals, Doctors And Nurses On The Front Lines. We asked Jennifer McDermott, a Registered Nurse at Southern Ocean Medical Center, and Daughter of Paul Shutak Causeway’s Service Director, about her experience on Good Morning America. Here’s what she said; “GMA was an awesome experience where we were able to all come together as an emergency department and have some fun during a
crazy and scary time! Our ED is a family! And our family came together to do something amazing during this horrible time! We wanted to make sure everyone knew we would and will never give up on this fight!” The Causeway Family thanks Jennifer, her colleagues and all medical personnel fighting this battle. We WILL win!

"To our true heroes on the frontlines," Pitbull wrote. "Nothing but love and respect to our first responders. Stay safe. Stay blessed. Dale! Special thank you to Southern Ocean Medical Center in New Jersey!" The chant, "I believe that we will win," originated at the Naval Academy Preparatory
School, before becoming a traditional rallying call for fans and students at the United States Naval Academy. Several schools and teams, such as the United States men's soccer team, have adopted the chant. The rapper dropped the track recently because "that message is needed right now more than ever," he told Billboard. All proceeds for Pitbull's anthem will support charities such as Feeding
America and the Robbins Foundation.
Tony
BelieveAnthem2020.com allows people to become part of Pitbull's video anthem. The artist called on medical workers, first responders and the public to take part and submit a video of themselves dancing to the song. SOMC stood out in the worldwide phenomenon, and "Good Morning America" took notice. Pitbull told the program he is "humbled" by the SOMC's video.

AtlantiCare now offers COVID-19 tests at several locations for symptomatic individuals who meet certain requirements. Testing will take place at Galloway, Little Egg Harbor and Berlin (Camden County). AtlantiCare chose not to list the precise facilities for testing because they are concerned people without appointments would show up, a spokesperson told Patch. Patients will receive the location when they receive an appointment. Individuals can schedule a virtual Primary Care or Urgent Care appointment by calling the AtlantiCare Access Center at 1-888-569-1000 and learn more by visiting www.atlanticare.org/telehealth.
By Josh Bakan, Patch Staff AtlantiCare Physician Group Primary Care and Urgent Care now offers new-coronavirus testing at several locations, including Little Egg Harbor. Testing takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Testing is by appointment only for individuals who have a prescription from an APG Primary Care or Urgent Care provider after being seen in the office or through an AtlantiCare Telehealth visit. "Members of the community who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should call their healthcare provider to be evaluated," said Mary Ann Yehl, D.O. interim medical director of Primary Care and Accountable Care. "Symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell."

HERO: HOSPITAL TECH FROM BERKELEY WHO 'MADE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE'
Sandra Hardy-Rogers, who worked at Community Medical Center, died from the coronavirus. Around 30 nominated her to Patch as their hero. By Josh Bakan, Patch.com Around 30 people nominated Sandra Hardy-Rogers of Bayville as part of Patch’s series that features heroes amid the coroanvirus outbreak. Hardy-Rogers, a hospital technician, was one who made the “ultimate sacrifice,” they said, while working at Community Medical Center. Hardy-Rogers died after suffering from the coronavirus, according to her family. “She put others before herself in all aspects of her life. (She) was an awesome wife and mother,” said her husband, Joe Rogers. Patch launched an initiative to help recognize everyday heroes. Normally, with each nomination, Patch will pull each answer from someone’s nomination Q&A.
lost her life because she chose to work the frontline to take care of others. She deserves the award.” Dayna Fillman, worked in the emergency room with Hardy-Rogers.
who when they were on your shift or in your area made everyone’s life better just for knowing them.” - Deek Medzadourian, coworker.
“She worked hard and always showed up to work no matter what. She lost her battle to COVID-19 on May 1st but she never stopped fighting. She was strong, amazing and funny.” - Aisha Balado, coworker.
“She always tried to make all of her patients her number one priority. She was gentle and showed them all that she cared.” - Sharon, coworker.
“Sandra was the light in the room. Never once did she complain about her job, she always assisted me as a tech to me being an RN without any questions asked, and she was a bundle of British humor.” - Meg Hall - Hardy-Rogers served as her ER technician.
Nominee: Sandra Hardy-Rogers
“How courageous and brave she was! How she fought so hard!” - Katelyn Daley, coworker and friend.
Job: Emergency Department technician at Community Medical Center.
“She was one of the best people I know.” - Samantha, coworker.
Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
“Sandra is a kind hearted soul who gave her life to protect And help those in her community.” - Gianna Walters, coworker.
“Sandra made the ultimate sacrifice to her community and lost her battle to COVID-19 as a result of being a front line essential worker.” - Sandra Strittmatter, coworker and friend.
“Sandra was on the frontline working in the ED at Community Medical Center. She contracted COVID-19 and was in ICU for over a month. This past Friday she succumbed to the virus. She leaves behind a husband, son and her entire work family at CMC. She is a true hero.” Jamie, coworker. “She worked in the ER taking care of patients with COVID-19. She ended up testing positive herself. She fought a hard battle. First pneumonia, then blood clots in the legs and lungs. She had surgery but the family was told there was no circulation in her legs so she’ll probably lose her legs. “She went into renal failure, then dialysis, then brain dead. After a month long battle she passed away. Sandra was one of the strongest women I know. She’s taken care of people her whole life. She’s from the U.K. where she spent her early years as a nanny. When she made her way to the US, she helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity. Eventually she became a home health care worker. Then a nursing assistant in the hospital. A few years ago she came down to the ER. She’s a hard and caring worker. She
“She was an absolutely amazing person. She was a great person who helped many people, patients and coworkers, throughout her time at CMC. She loved her husband Joe and son Brett beyond words.” - Sylvia Hastick, coworker. “She was such a positive person. She worked so very hard and took care of anyone she was given. She lost her own battle but fought others battles with them.” - Jackie, coworker and friend.
But something incredible happened with Hardy-Rogers. At least 28 people nominated her as their hero. Patch will highlight some of the kind words from each response:
“Sandra lost her battle to COVID-19 because she was caring for the patients in the Emergency Department of Community Medical Center that had been diagnosed with COVID-19 during their weakest moments. She along with other team members worked tirelessly during the pandemic to ensure safety, prevention of infection and to flatten the curve. Sandra washed patients that couldn’t wash themselves, she made sure patients were safe when they were fearful, she walked into rooms knowing the virus lingered on the walls without hesitation. She was fearless. She was a team member. She was one of us.” Tess, coworker.
“She wore her heart on her sleeve, such a wonderful person.” - Maryann Paciulli, friend.
“Sandra loved her son and her husband beyond words. Every conversation I had with her she talked about the love she had for them. I will miss everything about her. We at CMC will miss and love her forever.” - Stacie Gentile, coworker.
“Died in the line of duty during coronavirus.” - Alexis Hagenfield, coworker. “She was a beautiful human being, she had one of the biggest hearts you could ever imagine. She’s such a hard worker everyone there loves her so much and her son and husband are having such a hard time right now.” Gabrielle, coworker and family friend. “She had touched so many peoples hearts at her job it’s incredible. She’s unfortunately passed due to the corona virus and right now we believe this will help us show everyone the superhero mom, wife, and co worker she is!” - Steven. “She was a very hard worker and a good friend. She did everything she could to take care of her patients. She was kind, sweet, funny, and strong.” - Emily Avalos, coworker. What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero? “Sandra was adored by her patients and loved dearly by her husband, Joseph, son, Brett, family across the pond, friends and work family.” - Strittmatter. “She was such a hardworking and outstanding person!” - Juliana, coworker. “Always made work better. Was the type of person
“A kind and caring woman who always made you laugh.” - Kimberly Hitchens, coworker. “She was a strong little warrior, a great mother, a great wife, a great friend to many.” - Patricia Miller, friend. “Has a great sense of humor makes the work a little easier.” - Danica Guarda, coworker. “She loved her patients, her husband and her son. She was dedicated and hardworking.” - Donna Murphy, coworker. “Funny and extremely kind.” - Edith, coworker. “Sandra was one of my best work friends. She had a tell it like it is attitude but treated everyone with respect. She worked hard in the ER and always put her patients’ (and fellow coworkers’) needs before her own. She has a son who is her world, she could talk about him for hours. They loved doing Legos together and she took him EVERYWHERE. He was truly her best friend. Everyday at work, if she saw someone struggling or even just having a bad day, she wouldn’t hesitate to go out of her way to pick them up, make them laugh, or simply do something to make their day a little better. She lost her fight to COVID on May 1st, and our ER remains shattered without her. We continue to fight this virus for her and the rest of our fallen community.” - Allyse Gombas, emergency room coworker.

Furry Friends Who Need Fur-Ever Homes!
These furry friends are provided to us by Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter.
This is Bagheera! His current address is the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter in Manahawkin but he’d love to make your home his address! He is 1.5 years old and so handsome. Just look at that face! He’s a shy, quiet boy who needs a home that will accept his shyness and give him the time he needs to adjust and make you his new best friend!
I’m Eartha! I’m a sweet, kind, loving, pretty green eyed girl! I would love to be your new best friend! I’m only 4 years young and love petting, relaxing in kitty tunnels, cubes and sunbathing by a sunny window. I have also lived with another cat in my previous home, so with proper introduction, I may enjoy the company of another cat.
This is Blanket! Hackensack Meridian Healthcare workers, like the many other healthcare workers, volunteers, police officers, firefighters and EMS responders are the heroes without capes that keep us safe and are right on the front lines of this Covid-19 pandemic. They’re a big reason why things are getting better and people are recovering and being safe. Hackensack Meridian Healthcare celebrated the 500th patient to be discharged at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on May 6th, National Nurses Day, and what day would be better. Mr. John Ebright of Neptune is the 500th patient and while surrounded by his angels at JSUMC, his wife and soulmate Vilma was there to see him after a 4-week battle with the virus which included 12-days on a ventilator, and that’s something Hackensack Meridian Health reminds us is “not always a good sign for recovery.” Ebright fought his way through the virus and is back home.
A special ceremony was held before he left though as Jersey Shore University Medical Center nurses, physicians, support teams, and leaders celebrated John’s recovery and discharge with cheers and applause and a live performance from medical center physician Alan Zaccaria, M.D., of “Here Comes the Sun.”
She is a petite girl who is lovable and so adorable! You would never guess that she is 10 years old. Blanket is very sweet and calm. Her favorite thing to do is just lay next to you and receive lots of attention. Blanket would make a nice companion for a family with children over the age of 5. Young children may be too much for her. She prefers to be the only pet in the home.
JSUMC plays a recording of Dr. Zaccaria’s cover of the popular Beatles’ song over the PA system when COVID-19 patients are discharged.
Please call the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter to make an appointment to meet there fur babies!
Hackensack Meridian Health said that since the start of the crisis “the academic medical center has provided care for more than 2,000 combined COVID-19 positive and PUI patients, including those who did not need a stay at the hospital.”

Ford And 3M Now Shipping Powered Air-Purifying Respirators To Health Care Workers; New Jersey Orders 500,000 Gowns
The first Ford-built, powered airpurifying respirators, developed in close collaboration with 3M, are on their way to help protect health care workers fighting COVID-19. Since late March, Ford has been working with 3M to create urgently needed PAPRs, using design guidance from 3M and off-theshelf parts, like vehicle ventilator fans and power tool batteries. In a separate effort, 500,000 reusable medical gowns distributed by Ford will soon be on their way to the state of New Jersey. “Ford could not stand by while health care workers in this country placed their lives on the line to help others without even having proper protection,” said Jim Baumbick, Vice President, Ford Enterprise Product Line Management. “That’s why we kicked off an all-out sprint to protect those who are so selflessly helping patients afflicted with this terrible virus.” “We are dedicated to helping support and protect the health care workers fighting COVID-19,” said Bernard Cicut, Vice President, 3M Personal Safety Division. “We thank Ford for partnering with us to quickly develop and deliver more of these critical health care supplies to the heroes working on the frontlines of this unprecedented health crisis.” 3M is a leading provider of personal protective equipment, including powered air-purifying respirators. Demand for 3M PAPRs is exceeding supply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through partnerships with companies like Ford and others, 3M plans to increase capacity of its own PAPRs by ten-fold within the next several months. Moving fast Ford and 3M have worked closely with Ford’s automotive supply chain to progress the new PAPR from idea to product in fewer than 40 days. Ford’s Product Development team moved quickly to design the new PAPR, combining vehicle air conditioning expertise with 3M’s knowledge of medical devices. Hand-drawn concepts of the Ford PAPR were created one day after starting the project. Ford’s engineers also leveraged vehicle seat trim expertise to design the
PAPR hood. In parallel, Ford’s Advanced Manufacturing team rapidly prototyped the PAPR using 3D printing, while the Ford Purchasing team worked with suppliers to procure and produce components and the Ford Manufacturing team designed the production process. Assembly lines and production of PAPRs started within three weeks of the initial request.
More than 10 companies from across Ford’s automotive supply chain are providing new and off-the-shelf parts for use in the PAPRs. Components include hood tops for the wearer’s head and shoulders, filters and fans for supplying filtered air, power electronics, switches, foam seals and more.
3M and Ford will donate any profits they earn from the sale of the PAPR to COVID-19 related nonprofit organizations. Gown Deliveries Grow Washable gown deliveries are rapidly
The PAPR includes a hood and face shield to cover health care professionals’ heads and shoulders, while a high-efficiency (HEPA) filter system provides a supply of filtered air for as long as 8 hours. The air blower system – similar to the fan in the Ford F-150’s ventilated seats – is powered by a rechargeable, portable battery, helping keep the respirator in constant use by first-line defenders. Approximately 90 paid UAW volunteers have assembled more than 10,000 PAPRs at Ford’s Vreeland facility near Flat Rock, Mich., with the ability to make 100,000 or more.
Approximately 90 paid UAW volunteers have assembled more than 10,000 PAPRs at Ford’s Vreeland facility near Flat Rock, Mich., with the ability to make 100,000 or more.
One of the proud UAW workers is Michele Strong, a team leader volunteering in Ford’s Vreeland facility. Now at almost 43 years with the company, Strong has worked in both Flat Rock Assembly Plant and the Rouge complex. Strong maintains a perfect attendance record – she wasn’t about to stop now. “I’m proud of all of the vehicles I’ve help build over the years, but this is something totally different,” Strong said. “I’m up for this experience to help the world – to help the situation we’ve got. A lot of friends ask me, ‘Are you really going to do this?’ and I say, ‘Yes. It’s the right thing to do.’” The 3M and Ford development team worked closely with the U.S. CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory. NIOSH provided timely guidance to encourage the development of PAPRs to help respond to the COVID-19 emergency. Ford has achieved temporary NIOSH approval under its limited-use protocol to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
Shipping to Customers Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Wash., is the first customer to order and take delivery of the Ford-built PAPRs.
growing as hospitals and medical services seek reusable protection for health care workers. The gowns have been self-tested to federal standards and are washable up to 50 times.
“We are very grateful to Ford and 3M for this shipment of air-purifying respirators,” said Steve Schaefer, Senior Vice President, Support Services, Virginia Mason Medical Center. “This important equipment will help ensure the safety of our patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Virginia Mason care teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Ford suppliers are now producing 200,000 gowns a week, and more than 400,000 gowns have been shipped by Ford to medical workers around the country.
3M will sell and distribute the newly designed Ford Limited-Use Public Health Emergency PAPR through 3M-authorized distributors to maximize speed and efficiency in deploying these technologies to heath care workers. Ford-built PAPRs also can be ordered directly from Ford.
Inspired by the go-fast effort in 1970 to help NASA’s disaster-stricken Apollo 13 astronauts, Ford’s Project Apollo team has undertaken a variety of efforts in the fight against COVID-19. The company is making and supplying critically needed PPE and health care equipment, including more than 12 million face shields, ventilators in collaboration with GE Healthcare, medical masks for its workforce, and washable gowns for hospital and medical workers.
3M will provide technical support for health care workers using the new PAPRs. 3M’s authorized distributors moved exceptionally fast to make these products available for order within days.
The state of New Jersey has also placed an order for 500,000 reusable gowns. Project Apollo

Nissan’s Top 5 Car Care Tips For When You’re Parked At Home
WWW.CAUSEWAYGAZETTE.COM
DO’S AND DON’TS FOR DISINFECTING YOUR VEHICLE Tips on how to disinfect your vehicle without damaging its interior.
Nissan is offering tips on how to disinfect your vehicle as we aim to stop the spread of COVID-19. Frequent hand washing as directed by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a crucial part of staying healthy, but so is disinfecting surfaces, including those in your car. “Most people are still using their vehicles, whether they are essential employees commuting to work or someone running to the grocery store while in quarantine,” said Ryan Fulkerson, director, New Model Engineering, Nissan North America. “We want to make sure they’re informed on how to best keep their vehicle disinfected.”
There are a few simple vehicle-care techniques for drivers to remember when they may not be driving, or driving infrequently.
The CDC recommends wearing disposable gloves for cleaning and then disinfecting surfaces. If a surface appears dirty, it should be wiped down with soap and water prior to disinfection. For vehicle interiors, a soft or microfiber cloth dampened with soap and water can be used to wipe down hard surfaces.
“The shelter-in-place orders in effect throughout much of the United States and Canada mean that many vehicles are seeing infrequent, if any, use,” said Ryan Fulkerson, Director, New Model Engineering, Nissan North America. “The longer a vehicle sits unused, the more likely it is to develop issues. By taking a few key steps, drivers can keep their cars running smoothly.”
While most common household disinfectants are effective, some are not ideal for use on a vehicle including bleach, hydrogen peroxide, benzene, thinners or other harsh and abrasive cleaners. These chemical products can damage your vehicle’s upholstery and/or interior surfaces. Instead, alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol are effective against the coronavirus according to the CDC, and can be safely used in your vehicle.
Here are Five Tips from Nissan: Keep the battery charged – a short drive or a trickle charger will work. Drive around the block – this keeps the battery charged and fluids circulating. Check the fluids – maintaining proper oil and transmission fluid levels will prevent problems down the road. Maintain recommended tire pressure – this helps to prevent flat spots when your vehicle is sitting.
The infotainment screen is tricky because it’s a high-touch area that should not come in contact with aggressive cleaners. Use screen wipes or a soft cloth dampened with soap and water to clean the screen surface. Wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. Ammonia-based cleaners should not be used on infotainment screens, as they can damage the anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coatings. If the vehicle is equipped, using voice commands can help avoid touching the center screen altogether.
Wash your vehicle regularly – this helps to protect the paint, especially for vehicles parked outdoors. “Following some of these tips will help to keep your car in shape,” said Fulkerson. “Washing a car yourself can also relieve boredom and be a great activity for the entire family.” If a vehicle requires more attention, call Causeway Nissan Service Department to schedule an appointment!
If a vehicle requires more attention, remember that automotive dealerships and their service departments are deemed essential services while many businesses around the country are closed in response to government mandates aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. Causeway service department remains open and is available to assist with vehicle service and repairs, offering no-contact drop off or at-home pick-up and delivery. Visit www.causewaynissan.com
Nissan is providing a checklist to help you remember vehicles surfaces to regularly disinfect: • Steering wheel • Key and remote fob • Exterior door handles, both sides • Trunk lid or lift gate grab areas • Interior door pulls, both sides and interior door panels • Start button, if equipped • Rear view mirror, back and edges • HVAC vents • Gear selector • Turn signal lever • Windshield wiper controls • Center stack knobs • Center console and arm rest • Seat belt and buckle. Avoid harsh cleaners on the belt itself, they can degrade the fibers and the belt’s strength • Parking brake handle, parking brake or release lever Courtesy of Nissan

Gov. Phil Murphy To Reopen More NJ Businesses Amid Coronavirus
Gov. Murphy will open more businesses as he plans to restart NJ’s economy amid the coronavirus. Here’s the latest. and curbside pick up, he said.
By Tom Davis, Patch Staff Gov. Phil Murphy, speaking during a Wednesday news conference, will reopen more businesses as he readies a plan to restart New Jersey’s economy amid the coronavirus outbreak. Murphy also announced 1,028 new coronavirus cases and 197 more deaths.
No customers will be allowed back into non-essential stores. “They will have to continue placing orders in advance,” he said.
Murphy credited New Jerseyans for practicing proper social distancing over the past two months, and said the state’s plans to expand testing and start contact tracing will also help contain the disease.
“We can get small businesses back up and running in a manner that continues to protect both workers and shoppers,” he said.
Murphy said the state was purposely moving slowly and deliberately to prevent further outbreaks “We have to be quick but we have to be righ,” he said.
Gatherings of vehicles for drive-in movies or religious services are no longer “a violation of my order prohibiting mass gatherings,” Murphy said, though he said people must remain in their cars.
Murphy reopened non-essential retail stores for online and phone ordering and curbside pickup, and will also allow non-essential construction to start back up, all took effect on Monday the 18th at 6 a.m. Drive-through events will also be allowed to happen, with social distancing guidelines, effective immediately. Here is what Murphy is now specifically allowing: Non-essential retail
Murphy also credited Chester Borough Mayor, Janet Hoven, for making a “compelling” case in pushing to reopen retail businesses.
If cars are within six feet apart, windows must remain closed, Murphy said.
Under Murphy’s original stay-at-home order, grocery and other food stores have been allowed to reopen while restaurants and other eateries have been only allowed to provide curbside pickup.
In a similar manner, Murphy said he will allow outdoor graduations “as long as you stay in the car.” “And I wish I could say – I got a high school senior who came out to me and I would love to be able to say, ‘You’re all set to gather face-toface.’ But we’re not there yet.” Non-essential construction Murphy said work can resume at construction sites as long sensible safeguards are in place, such as: • Preventing overcrowding • Requiring face coverings • Prohibiting non-essential visitors
Others that were allowed to stay open include pharmacies and medical marijuana dispensaries, medical supply stores, gas stations, hardware and home improvement stores, banks, laundromats and dry-cleaning services, pet stores, liquor stores, car dealerships and printing and office supply shops.
• Staggering work hours and breaks
Murphy said he will allow non-essential retail to reopen, such as clothing and department stores, but with restrictions. Those stores will only be allowed to do only online and phone ordering

For the sixth year in a row, Honda has been chosen as America’s “Best Value Brand” in Kelley Blue Book’s Brand Image Awards, which recognizes automobile manufacturer’s successes in fostering and retaining brand attributes that customers appreciate and pay attention to when considering the purchase of a new vehicle. In awarding its “Best Value Brand” award for 2020, Kelley Blue Book noted that Honda’s quality, reliability, durability, and resale value were all key parts of the winning formula. The 2020 Brand Image Awards are based on consumer automotive perception data from Kelley Blue Book’s Brand Watch study. Brand Watch is an online brand and model perception tracking study, which taps into more than 12,000 in-market new-vehicle shoppers annually on KBB.com, and offers insight into how shoppers perceive important factors driving their purchase decisions, including capturing brand
and model familiarity and loyalty among new-car shoppers. About Honda Honda offers a full line of reliable, fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles with advanced safety technologies sold through over 1,000 independent U.S. Honda dealers. The Honda lineup includes the Fit, Civic, Insight and Accord passenger cars, along with the HR-V, CR-V, Passport and Pilot sport utility vehicles, the Ridgeline pickup and the Odyssey minivan. Honda’s electrified vehicle lineup includes the Insight hybridelectric sedan, Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, and the Clarity series. Honda has been producing automobiles in America for more than 37 years and currently operates 19 major manufacturing facilities in North America. 2020 Hyundai Sonata And Sonata Hybrid Receive Overall 5-Star Safety Rating From NHTSA Sonata and Sonata Hybrid have forward collision warning with automatic braking and lane departure warning as standard equipment. Both Sonata and Sonata Hybrid versions earn an overall safety rating of five stars.
The all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata and Sonata Hybrid have achieved an overall five-star safety rating – the highest possible score – after attaining high scores from each of the rating categories in the latest evaluations conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Transportation Administration. Already a recipient of a TOP SAFETY PICK award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Sonata offers shoppers exceptional levels of standard safety technologies. “As the most recent addition to Hyundai’s lineup, the 2020 Sonata incorporates Hyundai’s most advanced safety technologies with sophisticated looks and comfort to provide shoppers with high value and peace-of-mind,” said Brian Latouf, Chief Safety Officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “Sonata creates a new benchmark in the segment and underscores Hyundai’s commitment to offering the highest levels of quality and safety in all of our vehicles.” About the 2020 Sonata
incident. Meanwhile, other ADAS systems can help the driver perform certain tasks using the car’s three radar sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors and five cameras. These features include: • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (standard) • Lane Keeping Assist (standard) •Advanced Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go (standard) • Highway Driving Assist (optional) Highway Driving Assist Highway Driving Assist (HDA) is a driving convenience system that when using Smart Cruise Control (SCC) or Lane Following Assist (LFA), automatically helps drivers stay centered in their lane and traveling at a safe distance from the car ahead. It also helps the driver maintain the speed limit based on GPS and highway data. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
The eighth-generation Sonata is unlike any of its predecessors, showcasing Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, an allnew Smartstream 2.5 GDI engine and segmentfirst technology that can be personalized. Safety The new Sonata maximizes occupant safety through a range of active and passive safety technologies. Passengers benefit from a comprehensive nine-airbag set-up, while a sophisticated Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) works to alert drivers to things they might miss while driving. Driver Assistance Technologies Sonata features Hyundai’s latest SmartSense advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). A series of sensors and systems, often restricted to luxury cars, combines to potentially warn the driver and may take action in the event of a safety
The 2020 Sonata is fitted with standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian detection, an advanced active safety feature that helps alert drivers to emergency situations, and may brake autonomously, if required. Using front radar and front camera sensors, FCA operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it assesses the nature of the collision danger and can apply increasing amounts of braking force to avoid a collision or minimize damage when a collision is unavoidable. The system is activated when a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist is sensed in front of the car. Lane Following Assist Lane Following Assist (LFA) may automatically adjust steering to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane of travel. LFA can keep the vehicle centered on both highways and city streets.
Blind-Spot View Monitor and BlindSpot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) The Blind-Spot View Monitor with the Sonata’s outside mirror-mounted cameras offers the driver an enhanced field of vision. The Blind-Spot View Monitor system scans for vehicles entering your blind spot. If the driver activates a turn signal, an image of the view from the corresponding wing mirror is displayed in the 12.3-inch cluster display. Furthermore, if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system provides audible and visual alerts and applies partial braking if necessary. Surround-View Monitor The new Sonata uses four cameras to provide the driver with an enhanced, bird’seye view of the car’s exterior, giving the driver confidence when maneuvering into or out of spaces. Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist helps detect pedestrians and obstacles with a rearview camera and ultrasonic sensors. The system can provide warnings and apply emergency braking to assist in the avoidance of a collision.
Convenience Technologies Touch Sensor Outside Door Handles Touch Sensor Outside Door Handles have been added to the 2020 Sonata to increase ease of use and further refine the design. To lock the door, the driver need only touch the sensor on the outside of the door handle. Pulling on the handle activates a larger sensor on the inside of the handle to open the door. Remote Start Remote Start has been a part of the Hyundai Blue Link system for years. It works by using a cellular data connection to warm up or cool down a Sonata when it is out of sight of the owner. To make that system even better, Hyundai engineers added Remote Start to the 2020 Sonata’s key fob on models equipped with Proximity Key and Push Button Start. This allows a remote start to be performed when the car is within the owner’s line of sight. Performance and Chassis The all-new Sonata is the first model to utilize Hyundai Motor’s third-generation vehicle platform. Offering significant flexibility for vehicle development across multiple segments, the platform enables dramatic innovations in design, alongside improvements in safety, efficiency and driving performance.
