St. Theresa’s Food Pantry receives Causeway’s “CauseWheels” Vehicle Donation Program With the celebration of The Causeway Family of Dealerships 50th anniversary concluded, we continue with a new yearlong campaign – “CauseWheels” Vehicle Donation Program - to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. At the end of 2019, Causeway had two requests for vehicle donations to local non-profit organizations. We were able to accommodate each of these requests. This prompted an idea to follow up last year’s 50th Anniversary Grant program. Anchoring this campaign is the CauseWheels vehicle donation program, through which Causeway will award a used vehicle to one Ocean County nonprofit every month, from February through December of 2020. Due to Covid-19 we had to postpone our April and May winners. To recap, our February

winner was Main Street Alliance Church and our March winner was 21 Plus, Inc.! We are proud to announce our June Winner, St. Theresa’s Food Pantry! St. Theresa’s Food Pantry is located along Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor, approximately one mile from the parish campus at 641 Radio Road. As an important outreach in our local community, the Food Pantry assists anywhere from three to nine hundred people each month. Upward of 60 dedicated volunteers help run the Food Pantry. These volunteers help with such items as picking up food donations, stocking and organizing shelves, cleaning, and assisting people as they visit the pantry site. The Food Pantry is associated with Fulfill NJ from who they receive regular donations and assistance. The Food Pantry also

receives a monthly donation from the parishioners of St. Theresa’s, as well as from other residents and vendors in the township. The people of the parish and the township are incredibly generous to this outreach. The normal hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 2pm to 4pm. Due to the challenges and restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, the hours of operation for the Food Pantry have been limited to Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 2pm-4pm and a drive through program limiting person-toperson contact has been wellestablished. The van donated by Causeway Ford will enable the Food Pantry to pick up donations from the parish campus and local vendors. “It is a much needed and welcomed addition to our current operation. We are grateful!”

NEW JERSEY IS DOING BETTER THAN MOST STATES

New Jersey has been one of the hardest-hit states in the country but also one of the best at controlling the spread and growth of the coronavirus, according to various analyses in recent weeks.

As of July 4, New Jersey has recorded 13,308 confirmed deaths and another 1,856 probable deaths from COVID-19. Since the pandemic hit the state in early March, the state has reported 172,442 cases out of 1.49 million tests. That makes New Jersey No.1 in the nation in number of deaths for every 100,000 residents, No. 2 after New York in both total deaths and in total cases per 100,000 residents, and No. 5 after New York, California, Texas and Florida in total cases. Flattening the curve While New Jersey's overall COVID-19 statistics appear worse that most of the nation, that's in large part because New Jersey was one of the first states to get hit. Over the past several months, the state also has made strides in controlling the virus, which health officials have attributed to compliance with rigorous stay-athome and social distancing measures. Hospitals no longer full New Jersey hospitals on July 3 had less than a thousand COVID-19 patients. That's a serious drop from April 13, when hospitals were treating more than 8,000 patients. New Jersey hospitals are now releasing more COVID-19 patients — alive — than they're admitting them.

The state has had the most trouble at long-term care facilities, which account for 22,212 infected residents, 12,291 infected employees, 6,537 resident deaths and 118 staff deaths. 1 c. butter, softened 3/4 c. packed brown sugar 3/4 c. granulated sugar 2 large eggs 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract 2 2/3 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. kosher salt 2 c. chocolate chips (plus more for sprinkling) 1/4 c. rainbow sprinkles (plus more for sprinkling) 1 c. vanilla frosting

Directions: Step 1

Preheat oven to 350° and line a 9" round cake pan with parchment paper. Grease with cooking spray. In a large bowl using a hand mixer, beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well between each addition. Stir in vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix on low until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles.

Step 2

Press cookie dough into an even layer in the prepared pan. Top with more chocolate chips and sprinkles, if desired. Bake until the cookie is golden, about 35-40 minutes. Let cool in pan for 15 minutes then transfer cake to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Step 3

Transfer frosting to a piping bag fit with a large star tip. Pipe frosting around the edge of the cooled cookie cake. Slice into wedges www.delish.com

STATE SENATOR LOOKING TO DESIGNATE AUGUST 31 AS ‘OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY’ IN NJ

New Jersey State Senator Anthony Bucco (R - 25) has introduced legislation to shine a light on the state's overdose drug crisis.

Senator Bucco's legislation would mark August 31 of each year as 'Overdose Awareness Day', on the internationally recognized day for awareness. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has overlapped the ongoing drug epidemic and Bucco says during the state shutdown the amount of overdoses in New Jersey has gone up 20-percent. "We really need to shine a light on the opioid epidemic and this crisis we're continuing to see

with overdose deaths in New Jersey," Bucco told Townsquare Media News. 5 UNWRITTEN RULES OF JERSEY SHORE PARKING

Oh, I am LIVID. Luckily, by now I’ve had some time to cool off, but I was beyond angry yesterday at the parking situation down near Corson’s Inlet in Ocean City.

I can’t believe I spent almost an hour and fifteen minutes looking for a spot. Let me tell you something, it wouldn’t have taken that long if people had some common decency. I got cut off twice. TWICE. Both times, the parking spot I was waiting for was blatantly stolen even though it was extremely apparent that I was being patient while the family packed their car and drove off leaving me with that available spot. But, no. I didn’t get the spots. Why? Because evidently people don’t know the 5 unwritten rules of South Jersey Beach parking.

Now, before you even ask, let me make extremely clear that if it were PA drivers that made me lose out on the spaces, I would have just cut my losses and chalked it up to their ignorance. Nope, both cars had New Jersey plates. So, it seems the responsibility has been placed on my shoulders to educate fellow residents about how to PROPERLY park at South Jersey beaches.

Be Mindful Of Your Car’s Length If you have a Land Rover and you spend ten minutes trying to squeeze into a spot only big enough to fit a Toyota Corolla, who knows how many other spots you missed out on because you were so determined to park that specific one. 4. Don’t cut someone off This is my biggest pet peeve of them ALL! If you see someone stopped next to a family that’s clearly packing their car to leave, don’t circle the block and try to steal that spot the other person was patiently waiting for. Seriously. Were you raised by wolves? You can’t even deal with it when someone cuts you off on the highway. Imagine sitting there patiently waiting for a parking spot to open up for about ten minutes only for some ignorant person to cut you off in an effort to make the spot work for themselves. I know some people might just cut their losses and move on, and I would have too if the person who cut me off was from out of state. The fact that the plates were from NJ made it personal.

Of course, some of us can’t get to the beach until later in the day depending on the circumstances surrounding that morning, but the best time to find a parking spot without a lot of hassle is before 9 am. So, if you don’t want to stress, make a day of it.

If all else fails, you might have to *gulp* pay for parking. So, in the event that you have to pull into the lot, make sure you have some money to get you through the day.

2. Be Patient It may feel like you’ll be driving around forever to find a spot, but you WILL find one. You just may have to be willing to walk a bit.

HOSPITAL RULES TO VISIT PATIENTS IN THE HOSPITAL The state Department of Health on Tuesday issued guidelines that will allow hospital visits to resume. New Jersey hospitals suspended visits during the approach of the coronavirus pandemic in March, tightening up restrictions already in place during the flu season. An executive order by Gov. Phil Murphy allowed a spouse, partner, sibling or another person to accompany a woman during birth. An executive order issued by Murphy on Monday also allowed doulas to be in the delivery room. Adults only Under rules released June 30 by the New Jersey health commissioner, hospitals may allow vistors as long as they are adults. Hospitals, however, are allowed to make rare exceptions. Patients are only allowed one visitor at a time unless the patient is a minor, in which case both parents are allowed at once. Wear masks Hospitals have to provide all vistors with personal protective equipment, including masks, and instruct vistors on how to wear it. Visitors who refuse to wear the equipment will be asked to leave.

Symptom checks All visitors must get temperature and symptom checks before being allowed into the hospital. Anyone with symptoms will not be allowed to visit. Wash hands All visitors will have to wash their hands before entering a patient’s room. No roaming Visitors will have to stay in a patient’s room or ER bay except when directed by staff to move. ‘Support’ exceptions Same-day surgery patients and child patients are allowed to have one support person with them. Patients can also ask that a support person accompany them through the intake and discharge processes. Is there room in the waiting room? Visitors waiting for their turn will have to wait in the waiting room — unless, that is, there isn’t enough room to accomodate social distancing. Nissan topped three vehicle segments in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). J.D. Power IQS is the industry benchmark for new vehicle quality by measuring the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PPH) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. Overall in 2020 Nissan ranked 5th among mass market brands, five points ahead of industry average with a ranking of 161. For 2020, the Nissan Maxima, produced at Nissan’s Vehicle Assembly plant in Smyrna, Tennessee was the top-rated Large Car for the third consecutive year with a score of 121 PPH. The Nissan Murano, produced at Nissan’s Canton Mississippi Vehicle Assembly plant ranked highest in the Midsize SUV segment with 134 PPH. Hyundai Wants To Make Sure Drivers Check the Back Seat

Heading into summer, Hyundai Motor America wants to remind everyone to check the rear seats when exiting a vehicle. This simple act can help prevent child deaths from heatstroke in vehicles.

“It only takes a second to check the back seat and save a child’s life on a hot summer day,” said Brian Latouf, Chief Safety Officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “We have great systems to help drivers remember to do just that, but there are lots of methods that work. To do its part, Hyundai is voluntarily making its Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) door-logic system standard on most of its new vehicles by 2022. Hyundai currently offers two types of ROA systems to help prevent these tragedies from occurring. The ROA door-logic system detects if a rear door was opened or closed before the car was started, then reminds the driver to check the rear seat with a message on the center cluster when exiting the vehicle. The Ultrasonic ROA has the door-logic technology and an ultrasonic sensor that helps to detect the movements of children and pets in the second-row seats. If the system detects movement in the second-row seats after the driver leaves the vehicle and locks the doors, it will honk the horn and send an alert to the driver’s smartphone via Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car system (if equipped with Blue Link and the Blue Link service is active)
