Interfaith Health and Support Services Receives Causeway’s Vehicle Donation By Kathi Cheeseman With the celebration of The Causeway Family of Dealerships’ 50th anniversary concluded, we continue with a new yearlong campaign - “CauseWheels” Vehicle Donation Program - to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. At the end of 2019, Causeway had two requests for vehicle donations to local non-profit organizations. We were able to accommodate each of these requests. This prompted an idea to follow up last year’s 50th Anniversary Grant program. Anchoring this campaign is the CauseWheels vehicle donation program, through which Causeway will award a used vehicle to one Ocean County nonprofit every month, from February through December of 2020. Due to Covid-19 we had to postpone our April and May winners. To recap, our February winner was Main Street Alliance Church and our March winner was 21 Plus, Inc.! We are proud to announce our June Winner, Interfaith
Health and Support Services of Southern Ocean County! After 22 years serving seniors and the most vulnerable in our area, Interfaith Health and Support Services of Southern Ocean County is happy to announce a new program, “Ride for Health,” an expansion of their popular transportation service. Through the generosity of the Causeway Family of Dealerships and the OceanFirst Foundation, Interfaith now has their own van that will be used to bring seniors to their medical appointments and to area senior centers for a midday meal and group activities. Interfaith is a nonprofit senior service organization supported by 23 different faith-based communities and HackensackMeridian Health that provides assistance to the vulnerable aged or disabled residents of Southern Ocean County who are living at home. Interfaith volunteers drive seniors to their medical appointments, do grocery shopping for them and make friendly visits and reassurance calls to people who live alone or have limited options for transportation. Interfaith’s 275 volunteers served over 500 people free of charge. As the needs of our seniors have increased, Interfaith has expanded its services to include Alzheimer’s Respite Care, pet therapy and distribution of donated medical equipment. Now the “CauseWheels” Vehicle Donation Program will make it possible for more frail seniors to access the services at our area senior centers as well as get to their medical visits and treatments. Ride for Health is sure to improve the quality of life of the frail elderly in Southern Ocean County.
During this unprecedented pandemic, Interfaith continued to serve our community by providing transportation to vital non-emergency medical appointments plus food and prescriptions delivery to our most isolated seniors and at-risk residents. IHSS was selected by OceanFirst, The Grunin Foundation and Townsquare Media for their “Acts of Kindness” recognition program for going above and beyond to help the community’s neighbors as COVID-19 has its impact. Because of the COVID-19, crisis Interfaith has experienced an
increase in requests for food from local food pantries. This van will also help meet multiple residents’ requests for food and prescription delivery. IHSS is deeply grateful to OceanFirst, Causeway Family of Dealership, & Hackensack Meridian Health for their continued support of community and local nonprofits. It is with faith in your continued dedication to the people of Southern Ocean County that we can continue to provide this much-needed service. Thank you for helping us so we can help them.
What do New Jerseyans want to do first when life is ‘normal’? We do not know when life will return to normal in the Garden State, or even a “new normal” as Gov. Phil Murphy has been fond of saying, but what New Jerseyans most want to do as soon as that happens is to see and interact normally with friends and family, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. “It’s really all about getting to hug or kiss a loved one, craving that kind of human connection with friends and with family members, that New Jerseyans and I’m sure citizens across the entire country really miss,” said Ashley Koning, director of the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University. In the survey of more than 1,500 New Jersey adults taken from late April to early May, 20% said the first “normal” thing they would do is reconnect with loved ones. About 1 in 6 responded either “go to a different place” (17%) or “do a different activity” (16%), and just over 1 in 10 (12%) said they would first want to go out to eat. Some of those options are now becoming possible. Gov. Phil Murphy lifted New Jersey’s stay-at-home order on Tuesday, and restaurants will be able to offer outdoor dining starting Monday.
As for other types of activities, Murphy’s expansion of indoor gathering limits, also announced Tuesday, was designed to give a green light to the resumption of worship services. New Jersey beaches were allowed to open for the summer as of Memorial Day weekend, albeit also with limited capacity. “New Jerseyans simply want to do things like go to the beach, they want to take a vacation, they want to go to the park or go to church, they want a haircut or to go to the gym,” Koning said. The reopening of gyms and health clubs will also be part of Stage 2 of New Jersey’s recovery strategy, but Murphy has not yet specified a target date for those businesses. Salons and barbershops (including nail salons, something Murphy clarified on Tuesday) are reopening Monday, June 22. Coming in a distant fifth in the survey was getting back to work (7%), although Koning said those numbers were unsurprisingly elevated in several demographic groups.

MVC IS REOPENING IN JUNE WITH SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES
CLASSIC POTATO SALAD
DRIVING NJ FORWARD
The state's most-used government agency is reopening this month with some important changes. The biggest difference after the three-month closure is that Motor Vehicle Commission locations are being separated into 23 Licensing Centers and 16 Vehicle Centers. A list of the centers is below. MVC offices will begin processing drop-off and pickup transactions on June 15th. Behind-the-wheel road tests resume June 29th. The MVC tripled the number of road examiners in order to order to perform about 16,300 road tests a week, up from the previous 5,800 weekly average. Officials expect the road-test backlog to clear in about two months.
The MVC also has been installing Plexiglass barriers and floor markings to ensure social distancing at the facilities. Customers and workers will be required to wear face coverings. People who cannot wear a face covering will be accommodated separately. The MVC divided its facilities into dedicated centers in order to reduce crowding and speed up services. Beginning June 15th, Licensing Centers will process and validate permits on a drop-off basis while Vehicle Centers will process registration and title work from dealers and accept license plate surrenders. Beginning
June
29th,
Licensing Center will process new licenses and permits, outof-state transfers and REAL ID appointments that were canceled when the MVC shut down on March 15th. Also on June 29th, some Vehicle Centers will be add individual registration and title transactions. The MVC has continued to operate during the pandemic with an expanded menu of online services, including online commercial registration renewals. Expiration dates were also extended to the fall. MVC Administrator Sue Fulton this week said that online license renewals and replacements increased by 160% while online registration renewals and replacements increased by 80%.

SOUTHERN REGIONAL OPEN TO CONDUCT IN-PERSON GRADUATION Despite Governor Phil Murphy's go-ahead for in-person graduations, Southern Regional will continue its virtual ceremony. But school officials are open to also conducting an in-person ceremony.
The guidance may require large graduating classes to hold multiple ceremonies on different times or days. Southern Regional administration said the following in a Tuesday letter to seniors: The Southern Regional Board of Education

Governor Phil Murphy announced Monday he would allow outdoor graduation ceremonies starting July 6th. They must "comply with social distancing — ensuring the health and safety of all in attendance," Murphy said. What were once reserved for hospitals and health care settings are now a common sight on sidewalks and in businesses throughout the country. Still, there are a number of misconceptions when it comes to masks. Here are seven common face-mask myths, busted.
The advice from the CDC is that the general public should wear cloth face coverings, not medical-grade masks, which are best left for health care professionals on the front lines of the pandemic. The CDC-recommended coverings can be purchased (major clothing retailers such as Gap and Disney are selling them), sewn or fashioned from everyday household items, such as bandannas and rubber bands — even socks. Myth 3: A loose-fitting mask works just fine. This is false. The key is to make sure your face mask “fits snugly but comfortably against the side of the face,” says the CDC, and completely covers the mouth and nose to help prevent respiratory droplets from escaping. That said, it’s important to make sure you can breathe without restriction with it on.
“The issue of getting a mask wet, the issue of then breathing through that mask — it’s a setup for danger,” says Boris Lushniak, M.D., dean of the University of Maryland School of Public Health and former acting and deputy U.S. Surgeon General. When you’re in the water, the best way to reduce your risk of spreading or acquiring the virus is to keep a distance of at least 6 feet from other people and to wash your hands often when you’re done swimming. Myth 7: Your face mask doesn’t need to be washed.
Masks collect germs, so it’s important to wash them after each use, the CDC advises. If you’re using a washing machine, regular laundry detergent and warm water work just fine. NJSIAA TO ALLOW TRANSFERS WITHOUT PENALTY FOR 2020-2021 In a stark reversal of its standard policy, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association will allow student-athletes to transfer schools without penalty for the 2020-2021 academic year as part of its COVID-19 package. The temporary measure was approved during Friday’s resumption of the NJSIAA’s June Executive Committee meeting, which was being conducted virtually Wednesday before ending prematurely because of a power outage. The association’s COVID-19 package contains several amendments to its bylaws designed to give student-athletes relief due to the effects of the pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming school year. For the 2020-2021 academic year, students who transfer by Sept. 1 for the fall season and Nov. 1 for the winter season will be immediately eligible and will not have to provide a bona fide change of address, which has been a previous requirement. Because the 2020 spring season was canceled, there is no transfer deadline for the spring 2021 season. Transfers that occur for athletic advantage will continue to be penalized, however, with athletic directors having the ability to challenge them. Previously, athletes who transferred without a legitimate change of address were required to sit for the first 30 days of the season. “Everyone’s goal is to get student-athletes back to participating as soon as possible,” said Colleen Maguire, the NJSIAA’s newly-minted Chief Operating Officer, according to NJ.com. “We wanted to try to remove any hurdles that may be in their way or unforeseen circumstances that might be in their control.” The ruling is retroactive to March 16 when Gov. Phil Murphy closed New Jersey schools for in-person classes. Any athlete who transferred prior to March 16 will be subject to the original transfer rules. Two additional amendments passed for 2020-2021 • Student-athletes who do not have enough credits to participate because of the pandemic can apply for a waiver through their school principal. The credit requirements will remain in place, but the principal can send a letter to the NJSIAA explaining the student’s specific situation. • The deadline for school districts to apply for cooperative athletic programs has been extended to Sept. 1 for fall, Nov. 1 for winter and Feb. 1 for spring. The previous dates were Jan. 15 for the fall season, April 15 for the winter season and Sept. 15 for the spring season. Bob Badders, wobm.com

STAFFORD FOUNDERS DAY POSTPONED TO AUGUST AMID CORONAVIRUS
Stafford’s Founders Day was postponed from June 13th to Aug. 29th because of the coronavirus. Stafford Recreation announced the decision Monday, June 1st. The postponement includes the breakfast, parade and all field activities at the Doc Cramer Sports Complex, along with fireworks. Governor Phil Murphy increased the limit on outdoor gatherings May 22nd from 10 people to 25, as long as social distancing remains in place. That number will likely increase in the coming months if New Jersey continues to flatten the curve of coronavirus cases. Founders Day celebrates Stafford’s founding in 1849. “While Founders Day may not look the same this year as in the past, we are hopeful that we can provide Stafford Township with an appropriate celebration that can bring us together safely as a community,” said an announcement from Stafford Recreation. Ocean Township canceled its Founders Day, which was scheduled for May 23rd, because of the coronavirus. The Ocean County Health Department has reported 237 coronavirus cases in Stafford and 245 in Barnegat as of Tuesday morning. The virus has killed 23 people in Stafford and 11 individuals in Barnegat, according to the OCHD.

What is Lincoln Co-Pilot 360?
A 2019 study by he Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) showed that advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) technologies, like Lincoln’s Co-Pilot 360, had an effect in reducing crashes.
The core of the Co-Pilot 360 Plus upgrade is an adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go capability and lane centering assistance. Though it qualifies as a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving aid, these systems are not as sophisticated as Cadillac Super Cruise. This means the driver is expected to keep her hands on the steering wheel in addition to remaining attentive, ready to take full control at a moment’s notice.
Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 is standard equipment for all Lincoln models, and includes a backup camera, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blindspot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and a driver monitoring system. Lincoln owners can choose to use all or some of these systems and can program alert and response sensitivity to personal preferences.
Additionally, depending on the model, Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 Plus includes traffic jam assistance to make brutal commutes easier, evasive steering assistance to support a driver making a sudden maneuver to avoid an obstacle, an automatic speed sign recognition system that tells the adaptive cruise control system when to slow or accelerate, a surround-view camera system, and the aforementioned automatic reverse braking system.
With a single exception, this collection of ADAS includes all of the technologies cited as effective at reducing collisions by the IIHS. The one missing from the standard Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 suite is automatic reverse braking, which the automaker supplies in the Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 Plus group of safety systems.
Which Lincolns Have Co-Pilot 360 Plus?
What is Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 Plus? Available as an option on the Lincoln Aviator, Corsair, and Nautilus models, CoPilot 360 Plus is an enhancement to the standard package of ADAS.
For now, only the Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Corsair, and Lincoln Nautilus offer CoPilot 360 Plus, and the full collection of systems is restricted to the newest of these SUVs, the Aviator and Corsair. As the company redesigns or updates existing vehicles and introduces new ones, look for broader availability of Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 Plus. Christian Wardlaw, JDPower.com

Minivan Best Buy of 2020 2020 Honda Odyssey
For the third year in a row (and the fifth time in the past six years), the Honda Odyssey has claimed the coveted KBB Minivan Best Buy Award. That’s quite a run for Honda’s family hauler. At the risk of sounding like a broken record (remember those?), let’s remind everybody of why the Odyssey has been so perpetually dominant in the minivan category. Simply put, this Honda van shines in all areas. As a family hauler, the well-built Odyssey seats up to eight people in a 2-33 configuration, and it’s roomy enough to accommodate actual adults inside, not just kids. What’s more, the center row of Magic Slide seats can be moved every which way to meet various needs, while the split-folding rearmost bench continues to flip and disappear into a rear floor that serves as a super deep cargo hold when it’s not occupied by the folded seat. As you’d expect, our KBB Minivan Best Buy winner of 2020 also drives well. While the Odyssey suspension is tuned for supple ride comfort about town, this Honda also is a genuine pleasure to drive on those twisty sections of road that lead, say, into the local mountains. Natural-effort steering and brakes make the Odyssey feel smaller than it actually is. Abundant Safety Features The 2020 Honda Odyssey also is loaded with the types of safety features you want in a family hauler. There are eight standard airbags, including knee airbags for the front occupants and side-impact curtain protection for all three rows of seats. Moreover, there are LATCH accommodations for up to five child safety seats. Comfort and Convenience Nor has Honda forgotten about the creature comforts and convenience
items so crucial to capturing minivan buyers. The 2020 Odyssey Elite we tested featured multiple cupholders, a heated tilt/telescope steering wheel, an onboard vacuum and a premium audio system featuring navigation, voice recognition and a multiview rear camera. The Elite also had a DVD player, tri-zone climate control and a power rear hatch, plus rear privacy glass and power sliding doors. Welcome features, all.
Other pleasantries on the 2020 Honda Odyssey Elite include an interior camera that helps parents keep an eye on their kids in back, plus a CabinTalk communications system that lets the driver talk with the folks in back through the rear speakers and DVD headphones. While CabinTalk may seem unnecessary at first, it’s super effective in reaching kids totally engrossed in “Frozen” or “Moana” for the 88th time. Calm, Cool and Connected In connectivity, Honda’s minivan also delivers. In addition to having Sirius/XM satellite radio and wireless smartphone charging, the Odyssey Elite boasts Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, which brings all the capabilities of your smartphone onto the Odyssey’s large color touch screen. If you haven’t tried CarPlay or Android Auto yet, it’s a super handy way to play your tunes or use Apps like Waze. And should you decide to pay for a monthly cellular data connection in your Odyssey, you’ll be able to stream live video content on the fold-down 10.2-inch rear screen.

The Odyssey: A Repeat 5-Year Cost to Own Winner Smart shoppers should always consult KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own data when considering a new vehicle. This data — which accurately reflects what consumers can expect to experience in terms of ownership costs over 5 years — shows that the Honda Odyssey was the Best Minivan in the 2018 and 2019 KBB 5-Year Cost to Own awards. In other words, over the last two years, the Honda Odyssey has been the least expensive minivan to own. Yes, you will pay less up front for a Chrysler Pacifica or a Kia Sedona, but when you factor in depreciation, maintenance and other miscellaneous costs, the Honda comes through with a lower total ownership cost. One other thing: If you’d like your Odyssey to look a little out of the ordinary, consider ordering it with the new 25th Anniversary Package, which includes chrome accents, special badges and 19-inch wheels. While that’s mostly an appearance package, all 2020 Odysseys now come standard with fuel-saving stop/start technology and a 10-speed automatic transmission formerly reserved for the Touring and Elite models. Given its enviable refinement, exemplary build quality and classleading low total ownership cost, the Honda Odyssey should be near the top of your minivan list. Although it’s not available as a hybrid (Chrysler Pacifica) or with all-wheel drive (Toyota Sienna), the Odyssey’s broad-spectrum excellence gives it the win in our book. When you also consider its abundant safety and convenience features, together with its rewarding driving manners and interior conveniences like the onboard vacuum, it’s easy to see why the 2020 Honda Odyssey has claimed yet another KBB Minivan Best Buy Award. Midsize Car Best Buy of 2020 2020 Honda Accord Staying Power It’s been three years since the Honda Accord has gotten a major makeover. However, the last go around was such a complete job in upgrading this midsize sedan that when it comes to delivering on buyers’ expectations, it withstands the test of time in this highly competitive segment. That’s not to say others aren’t trying to knock the Accord off its perch, but the Accord excels with its polished powertrain, comfortable cabin and substantial look and feel. For 2020, Honda returns with an Accord that is essentially unchanged from last year with only a modest increase in price (up $185 for all models except the Sport, which sees a $385 bump). Also, Honda offers a wide range of trim levels and three powertrain options including a fuel-efficient hybrid. Quintessential Family Car Long, low and wide, the 2020 Accord has the look of a premium sedan, further enhanced by the generous use of brightwork on the grille and window surrounds. The Accord has wind-cheating shape with a fastback roofline, short rear deck and flowing character lines that give the vehicle a look that will remain fresh for years to come. Joys of Driving Even though it seems more and more like it’s an SUV world, the Honda Accord reminds us how much fun it can be to drive a relatively low-slung sedan. The large glass area and low cowl gives great visibility outside the vehicle. Honda’s suite of safety and driver assists, Honda Sensing, also adds another layer of comfort and confidence with blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, cross traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Even as the midsize segment continues to contract as the result of the shift to crossover SUVs, there still is a sizable customer base that wants and needs a traditional 4-door sedan. These buyers can take heart because this Honda is well-equipped to deliver on your highest expectations and that ability to do so is a big factor in that car remaining our choice as the Midsize Car Best Buy.
