CELEBRATING 11 YEARS OF PAINT THE TOWN PINK Everyone has a reason for getting involved in Paint the Town Pink, an initiative organized by Hackensack Meridian Health. This year, in addition to scheduling a mammogram, the project is encouraging women to schedule other annual wellness visits and commit to one positive change – whether it is to be more mindful, take more steps to improve heart health, or to reevaluate unhealthy eating habits

necessary steps to protect their health – with no cost to them. With the help of early detection, awareness campaigns such as Paint the Town Pink and advanced technology, outcomes for women facing a breast cancer diagnosis are gradually improving. In its eleventh year, Paint the Town Pink hopes to expand awareness to include other important wellness visits so that the women who often care for others, make sure to take time to care for themselves.

The movement has grown from one participating town - Red Bank in 2006 - to more than 75 towns in 2017. Today, the program’s reach spans from Little Egg Harbor Township in Ocean County to Montvale in Morris County. Paint the Town Pink encourages local businesses to support women’s health awareness by “pinking” their windows and displaying educational material for patrons. As women shop, dine, and go about their daily routines, these ‘pink’ businesses remind women to make important appointments and also help to raise money for the Pink Fund.

FORD F-150 RAPTOR NAMED ‘BEST PICKUP’ IN THE NORTHWEST OUTDOOR ACTIVITY VEHICLE OF THE YEAR MUDFEST DEARBORN, Mich., May 10, 2017 – The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor drove away with top truck honors in the Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year Mudfest. The “Best Pickup” award is based on two days of grueling on-road handling and off-road testing courses driven by 28 members of the Northwest Automotive Press Association at Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington. The competition featured 27 crossover and sport utility vehicles vying in six categories, including compact, premium compact, family, premium, pickups and extreme capability. “The pickups category was extremely tough this year,” said Tuan Huynh, NWAPA Mudfest Event Chair., Northwest Automotive Press Association. “Ford F-150 Raptor won the hearts of our members for its prowess both on-road and off over two days of rigorous testing.” The win is the latest in a long line of awards the all-new F-150 Raptor has taken home. It was named Pickup Truck of the Year by FOUR WHEELER and Best Pickup for 2017 by Cars.com, and was honored with the Autotrader Must Test Drive award. Raptor was also named Truck of the Year by Popular Mechanics and AutoGuide.com. The recognition highlights Ford’s yearlong celebration of F-Series as best-selling truck in America for 40 consecutive years and best-selling vehicle in America for 35 consecutive years. Join the #40YearsTough celebration at www.40YearsTough.com. Ford F-150 Raptor stands alone in the high-performance off-road truck segment The purpose-built, off-road F-150 Raptor builds on the success of its predecessor with performance gains and new technology. The all-new Raptor stands alone among high-performance off-road trucks, featuring a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine generating 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, plus a segment-first 10-speed automatic transmission and six-mode Terrain Management System™. Its high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body saves 500 pounds over the previous model.

The 2017 F-150 Raptor’s competition-proven chassis also sets the performance bar with its second-generation BF Goodrich KO2 tires designed exclusively for the truck’s extended off-road capabilities. In addition, upgraded FOX Shocks (jointly engineered by Ford Performance and FOX) are 44 percent larger with 3-inch diameter shock canisters (2.5-inch previously) and nine-stage bypass damping delivering improved suspension control. The new shock design enables an increase in suspension travel to 13-inches at the front and 13.9-inches at the rear (a 0.8-inch front and 1.9-inch rear increase in wheel travel compared to its predecessor). www.media.ford.com

PASSION FOR SPEED COLLECTION OF CLASSIC MUSTANGS IGNITED BY TRADE OF FAMILY’S PET PONY FOR ICONIC PONY CAR pony cars, which Daniel and Chester restore between them. The Speed stable includes three 1969 Mach 1s, two 1970 Mach 1s (one with an engine their dad built), two 1971 Mach 1s and a 1973 Mustang convertible. Once their dad passed away, the Speeds started taking their fleet of vintage Mustangs out on the road at least twice a year to attend car shows. The kids are now spread out across Georgia and Florida, so these trips are an opportunity to bond and reminisce on their childhood days with their dad, and how he passed his love of Ford cars and trucks down to them.

DEARBORN, Mich., May 17, 2017 – After realizing that a real-life pony would be too small for his seven children to ride, the late Gilbert Speed decided to exchange the family pet for a 1965 Mustang. From that point on, the Speed siblings would develop a passion for the iconic pony car. One of those siblings, Daniel Speed, remembers the moment his dad traded their pet pony. “One Saturday, Dad said, ‘If you guys won’t ride him, I know what I’ll do with him,’” Daniel recalls. “Then he came back with that car.”

Daniel – now involved in advanced, top-secret projects as a rocket engineer in the aerospace industry – worked as a mechanic for his dad’s trucking company in rural Valdosta, Georgia. Since every truck his dad bought for the company fleet was a Ford, Daniel and his siblings came to know each one mechanically inside and out, which led to them buying and restoring classic Ford Mustangs.

The Speed stable of F-Series trucks enables them to transport their Mustangs wherever they need to go. Daniel hauls his 1969 Mach 1 using a 2009 F-150. Other Built Ford Tough trucks they use to transport their classic Mustangs include F-250 and F-350 Super Duty vehicles.

“We’ve owned Ford vehicles throughout our lives After Daniel’s youngest brother, Chester, bought and restored a 1965 Mustang of his own in 1980, four and had good experiences with them,” says Daniel. of the Speed siblings followed suit, buying their own “So we gravitate to what keeps us going.”

NISSAN HOSTS MISSISSIPPI’S LARGEST STEM/ ROBOTICS COMPETITION AT CANTON PLANT

CANTON, Miss. — On Saturday, Nissan partnered with Mississippi Robotics to host the second annual STEM/Robotics Competition at the Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant. The full-day event was designed to engage students in grades 3 through 12 in activities that nurture their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

“When it comes to careers in STEM fields, people often think of places like Silicon Valley,” said Ray Holt, president and executive director of Mississippi Robotics, a nonprofit that advances STEM education in the state’s rural communities. “But thanks to advanced manufacturers like Nissan, opportunities in these professions keep growing right here in Mississippi. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Nissan this year and getting more Mississippi students excited about science and robotics.” The STEM/Robotics Competition is the largest event of its kind in Mississippi. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 210 students – representing schools, clubs and outreach organizations from 19 cities across the state - participated in a series of challenges, including a speed race and an obstacle course with robots, science demonstrations, math competitions, a robotics troubleshooting challenge and driver-controlled robot sumo wrestling. Students competed in teams of two. In addition to the competitions, the event featured a career fair to help students explore opportunities in the STEM fields beyond high school. Both employers and colleges, including two of Mississippi’s historically black colleges and universities, shared information about how participants can translate their interests and skills in science into a postsecondary degree and a career. “At Nissan, having access to a highly-skilled workforce is essential for the success of our plant,” said Steve Marsh, vice president of manufacturing at Nissan Canton. “Through the partnership with Mississippi Robotics, we’re able to help the next generation of Mississippi STEM leaders apply and expand their knowledge and skills. Our employees who are volunteering at the event look forward to welcoming the participants to our facility.” The Nissan Canton plant launched production in 2003 and currently has a capacity of 450,000 vehicles annually. The facility employs roughly 6,400 workers and has made more than $13.6 million in charitable donations to date.

History of Memorial Day DECORATION DAY

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season. EARLY OBSERVANCES MEMORIAL DAY

OF

The Civil War, which ended in the spring of 1865, claimed more lives than any conflict in U.S. history and required the establishment of the country’s first national cemeteries. By the late 1860s, Americans in various towns and cities had begun

holding springtime tributes to these countless fallen soldiers, decorating their graves with flowers and reciting prayers. Did You Know? Each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time. It is unclear where exactly this tradition originated; numerous different communities may have independently initiated the memorial gatherings. Nevertheless, in 1966 the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day. Waterloo—which first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866—was chosen because it hosted an annual, communitywide event, during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags.

On May 5, 1868, General John A. Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance later that month. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle. On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there. Many Northern states held similar commemorative events and reprised the tradition in subsequent years; by 1890 each one had made Decoration Day an official state holiday. Southern states, on the other hand, continued to honor their dead on separate days until after World War I. HISTORY OF MEMORIAL DAY Memorial Day, as Decoration Day gradually came to be known, originally

honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War. But during World War I the United States found itself embroiled in another major conflict, and the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars.

For decades, Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30, the date Logan had selected for the first Decoration Day. But in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees; the change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.

Memorial Day 2017 occurs on May 29; Memorial Day 2018 falls on May 28. MEMORIAL DAY TRADITIONS

Cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year, often incorporating military personnel and members of veterans’ organizations. Some of the largest parades take place in Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C.

Americans also observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials. On a less somber note, many people take weekend trips or throw parties and barbecues on the holiday, perhaps because it unofficially marks the beginning of summer. http://www.history.com/topics/holidays/memorial-day-history

Every month we are putting the “spotlight” on one of our Ford employees, and giving our customers the chance to get to know our team a little better. For our first edition, we are showcasing Andrew Battaglino (pronounced Ba-ta-leeno). According to legend (read: Andrew telling us this), his last name means “battle” or “skirmish,” which couldn’t contrast his easy-going, calm personality more. In a previous article, we said that if there was a Team Player Award, Andrew would win it hands down. Several months later, his willingness to help anyone and everyone hasn’t diminished even a little. Whether it’s pairing a customer’s phone to the Bluetooth connection in their car, or getting a vehicle gassed and detailed for another salesperson, Andrew is always willing to drop what he’s doing and help someone else.

WHAT’S FOR DINNER?

From a performance standpoint, Andrew’s strengths have only grown. He has worked tirelessly to hone his craft and achieve new goals. Prior to selling cars, Andrew sold cell phones. That experience has proven invaluable whenever it comes to helping customers pair their phones or employees fix theirs. His considerable tech-expertise notwithstanding, he had to replace previous knowledge with product knowledge, which is not an easy task when it comes to Ford and Lincoln. 8 months ago he didn’t know which had more horsepower, an F-150 or a Ford Fiesta. Now, he can tell you the exact ignition timing on a Mustang Shelby GT-350R with a 5.2L, naturally aspirated engine. Exact. Go ahead, ask him.

As a young, moderately hip twenty-something, Andrew has quite the full social life. He volunteers at the Ship Bottom Fire Department and the Stafford EMS. Andrew is often out with friends, evaluating local bars and restaurants, and going to the movies. Most importantly, he doesn’t hesitate to invite his friends and coworkers along. Whether it’s going to see the latest blockbuster movie at the IMAX or deciding at 3pm what the Causeway night crew should eat for dinner, Andrew always has others in mind.

LINCOLN CHAUFFEUR SERVICE EXPANDS TO SAN DIEGO, SHOWCASING LATEST CLIENT-CENTERED EXPERIENCE DEARBORN, Mich, May 12, 2017 –The Lincoln Chauffeur service, offering Lincoln clients the option of a highly trained driver who also can assist with daily errands, expands to San Diego today. The pilot program, which began in Miami earlier this year, is the latest example of client-centered experiences that Lincoln is adding to its repertoire, focusing on making ownership more effortless. “This is just one more way we provide services to our clients,” says Eric Cin, Lincoln client services manager. “For Lincoln, it’s all about the experience.” Lincoln Chauffeur provides a carefully screened, highly trained driver when needed, enabling clients to enjoy the safety and the familiarity of their own vehicle from the comfort of the rear seats. This exclusive client membership service is provided in collaboration with RedCap Technologies. The service provides more than personal transportation; drivers also can assist clients with other tasks like fueling and washing the vehicle and also can run other errands, like picking up dry cleaning. “This service is generating a lot of interest among Lincoln owners,” Cin says. “They’re using it for dinner dates, for doctor appointments; they’re recognizing just how convenient it is to have this option available.” The pilot program is part of a multi-faceted initiative called The Lincoln Way, which helps owners save time through individualized client services. Another program currently being tested is the At-Home Test Drive program, which is piloting in Houston and Dallas. Prospective clients can schedule a test drive online, have the vehicle brought to their home, and experience quiet luxury with convenience that’s unmatched. Both programs are based on the success of Lincoln’s exclusive pickup and delivery service. Pickup and Delivery – an exclusive timesaver Lincoln’s exclusive pickup and delivery services launched last year and is now included with all 2017 model year vehicles. The program returns to Lincoln clients one

host of exclusive membership privileges.

A Lincoln Service Valet picks up a client’s vehicle for any service need, at any location, provides the client with a complimentary Lincoln loaner vehicle, and returns the freshly washed vehicle to the client once the service is complete.

These privileges range from premium service coverage to personalized vehicle shopping with dedicated personnel at home, in the showroom or online.

The program has proven to be overwhelmingly successful, launching in September with more than 15,000 rides completed by year end. The program is on track to complete more than 50,000 rides by the end of 2017. Enhanced client experiences have always been a critical element for Lincoln growth. Lincoln Black Label, for example, offers the ultimate expression of Lincoln style and substance, offering clients personal service and a

The Jersey Shore

Going down the Shore is a popular summer tradition with pleasant towns, festive boardwalks, cozy beach houses and miles of family-friendly beaches. Going down to the Jersey Shore is a popular summer tradition with mid-Atlantic residents from New York, Philadelphia and, of course, New Jersey. Busy city dwellers trade a subway for a beach cruiser and embrace a vacation of boogie-boarding, beachcombing and cruising the boardwalk. While basic hotel accommodations are available all along the Shore, most visitors choose to get comfortable in a rented house, ranging from simple condos to beachfront mansions. Here’s our selection of the best Jersey Shore beach towns, from north to south. Spring Lake Spring Lake is one of the more refined spots on the Jersey Shore with stately homes, quiet beaches and a non-commercial boardwalk. And then there’s the namesake lake situated in the middle of town, lined with weeping willows and quiet nooks, perfect for a serene evening stroll. The Breakers Hotel has undergone some name changes and lots of renovations since it first opened in the late 1800s. With its wraparound porch, it is a majestic presence on the beach and the only beachside hotel in town. Island Beach State Park Island Beach State Park is a protected barrier island in the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. This 10-mile stretch of unspoiled beach is far removed from the frantic pace and nonstop activity at nearby Seaside Heights. Little has changed here since the Native Americans and early explorers enjoyed the shore hundreds of years ago. The beach’s rolling dunes and dense forests are home to red foxes, osprey and a variety of shore birds. Unlike other NJ beaches that charge per person, here you pay a flat fee for your vehicle. Long Beach Island Long Beach Island, or LBI as it’s known to the regulars, has 18 miles of fine silky sand and some of the best breaks along the Shore. With its boozy nightlife and busy beach scene, Beach Haven is popular with the young crowd spending weekends at the Shore. Ship Bottom is a popular family spot with a playground and calm bay beach away from the ocean’s currents at 15th Street. Surfing is permitted at 19 spots along some of the area’s best beaches, including Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City and Ship Bottom.

Ocean City Known as the America’s Greatest Family Resort, Ocean City is often voted the best beach in New Jersey. There are 8 miles of shore for swimming, boogie-boarding and sandcastles. A wooden boardwalk lines 2-1/2 miles of these beaches, entertaining visitors with rides, mini-golf, carnival games and a water park. A spin on the Ferris wheel followed by some free fudge samples is the pinnacle of nightlife in this dry town, making it a popular spot for families who appreciate old-fashioned fun. Stone Harbor/Avalon Together, the neighboring towns of Stone Harbor and Avalon form 7 Mile Beach, a wide stretch of shore known for its cool ocean breezes. Bring a kite to the beach in Avalon and watch it soar over the dunes or simply lounge on the sand. Then head to Stone Harbor for the shopping along 96th Street and Third Avenue where surf shops selling the season’s best flip-flops sit next to boutiques peddling art, jewelry and quirky souvenirs. Wildwood Wildwood occupies a unique spot in pop-culture history as the center of Doo Wop in the 1950s and 1960s with colorful motels, bright diners and flashy neon signs. Young people flocked to nightclubs like the Rainbow Club where Chubby Checker first introduced the world to the Twist in 1960. Today, the Doo Wop Preservation League works hard to preserve the space-age architecture and keeps the kitschy spirit alive with historic tours. Today’s beach scene may be different from the beach blanket bingo days of old. The twisting and turning is more likely to be experienced at one of the boardwalk’s 6 bone-rattling roller coasters or 3 water parks. However, with free admission and a busy boardwalk scene, countless families and groups of friends still stake their spot in the sand http://www.travelchannel.com amidst a sea of colorful umbrellas.

Where should I live next? I speak from personal experience with my own family. With two children out of college, out of the house, and the last entering her senior year of college, we have recently experienced most of these “life moves”. Our oldest Joseph lives in Texas, Anthony in California and Victoria is at the University of Houston. My husband Joe and I are all alone here in New Jersey. We are currently considering the classic “Down Size” move.

There are many times in our lives that we have to make major decisions on where to live. This usually begins right after the celebration of high school graduation. It is an overwhelming time for anyone, never mind the young age of 18. You are living at home and going to classes, and your parents are taking care of By Donna Stroffolino everything else. Then you graduate high school and all Professional Stylist, Simply Hair of a sudden you need to make choices what college you are going to, where you will live, and how you will afford it all. There are endless living choices for college students and assistance with financial aid programs too. The Financial aid and Student services offices are filled with people who help you step by step through the process. There are also student academic advisors who help you pick classes too. So even though it is all new to the freshman college student, there are people who know how to help you through it. Using these resources will make it an easier adjustment. The college years go by fast, and you might have even gone through 3 different places to live on campus by your junior year. Now you are a senior and have outgrown living on campus and eating in the cafeteria. It’s time for another major decision. You’ll need to hunt neighborhoods near your school for safe and cost efficient apartments. It is important to weigh all your options for cost, location, size, amenities, and quality of living. Living in an area you enjoy is just as important as the cost of your new home. Consider the commute to work, school and shopping areas for convenience. These are all positive changes in your life. Making adjustments with balancing school, your work and keeping to your budget takes practice. After renting comes another major life decision to buy a house. There are again so many options, but that doesn’t always make it any easier. Making your budget for home expenses is just continuing the guidelines you have established as a renter. Buying a house, townhouse or condo, or building a house are all choices you might need to make. Having help in the college process from people who know what they are doing at the school was the first step. Now you can find other people who have jobs to assist you

with buying or building a house. There are many opportunities to have specialists in their field guide you. It is a challenging and busy time to go through a new construction build, but you will find helpers every step of the way. There are the realtors who sell you the property. The designers assist you with all the design choices. Then when the building starts, construction manager runs the day to day build, and the mortgage processors who handle the expenses. It could be overwhelming because there is so much to do but you will find help at every step along the way.

After living in your house for many years, you might decide that it is time to relocate. Whether it is for different job in another town, or a larger or smaller house would better fit your needs now. Beside the choice of leaving a home you loved for many years, you will also have many others to make. These are never easy ones either. Hopefully after years of moving from different types of homes, there will be many people who know how to help you along your next journey. It will be a new start in a fresh location, and an opportunity to clear out excess stuff you have accumulated in your home unnecessarily. This is also a great perk about a move. Others will also benefit from your donations, and there will be a new family in your home starting fresh too. Our living arrangement needs change as we get older, and we need to adjust along the way. Making a change is the most difficult decision of all. It is much easier to just stay the course where you are. Hopefully you will have the support of others who can assist you to make it a good and smooth transition.

This partnership continues Hyundai’s long commitment to supporting the U.S. military and its most recent Super Bowl marketing program Operation Better. “We’re proud to sponsor the National Salute to America’s Heroes and honor everything the military does for our country,” said Dean Evans, CMO, Hyundai Motor America. “Building off the better experience we provided this past Super Bowl, we are looking forward to paying tribute to our military at one of the biggest Memorial Day events in the country.” “It is thanks to the support of Hyundai that we are able to create an event that pays tribute to the men and women of our military and first responders,” said Mickey Markoff, National Salute to America’s Heroes president and executive producer. “Without the patriotic support of Hyundai, we would not be able to bring the largest collection of military equipment to Miami Beach and put on such a spectacular show to honor our heroes.”
