NEW KID ON THE BLOCK Causeway Hyundai to move into new facility soon
The final countdown has begun! We are just short of a month of moving into our brand new Hyundai building. Despite running into a few setbacks, the time has flew. From employees to our customers, we are all excited for the new building! The Hyundai building will be in between Causeway Ford Lincoln and Causeway Nissan, which is considered the “Causeway Auto Mall” on Google! The current address for Causeway Hyundai is 551 NJ-72, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Our new buildings address is 405 NJ-72, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
The new building will have a drive thru service lane which is convenient for everyone. Now customers can pull into the service bay and avoid any bad weather there may be. From the service bay, there will be an entrance into
our cozy customer lounge which will have plenty of snacks and refreshments. We will also have a larger service service center, which our mechanics should be pleased with!
Here are some renderings of what you can expect the new Hyundai facility to look like!
The current Hyundai building has treated us well for the past two years, but there were many shortcomings of the facility. First and foremost, the parking! There was limited parking spaces, we were typically forced to park inventory and employees on the grass. This just caused everyone a big headache. Second would be location, location, location! Because of how small the lot was, we had inventory parked at our main campus. This caused inconvenience for both employees and customers. Also, many people had no idea where we were located. Having Hyundai disconnected from the main campus simply just caused confusion. Countless times we had customers drive to our main campus just to ask where our Hyundai building was located. The building itself felt very outdated as it wasn’t built for the automotive industry. The service center wasn’t a easy access drive thru and it was way too small.
his is what our new facility will look like from Route 72. Causeway Ford Lincoln will be on the left side of the building with Causeway Nissan being on the right. Hyundai recently rolled out this new design which includes floor-to-ceiling glass which is topped by a beautiful bronze roof structure.
Besides the excitement of the building itself being brand new, there are many benefits of the new Hyundai facility. First, we are combating the problem of parking! Something so simple that use to cause frustration, now easily eliminated. There will now be easy access to all of our inventory. All Hyundai’s will now be parked on one lot, which means no more running back and forth for a vehicle. Many of our customers enjoy comparing our brands to one another, this can now be done with ease! Customers can start down at Causeway Honda and easily walk through to Nissan, Hyundai, Ford and Lincoln.
Full calendar at: thesandpaper.villagesoup.com
This is what the new Causeway Hyundai showroom will look like. The Showroom will be sleek, open and airy with Hyundai’s new Global design.
This is what the new customer lounge will look like besides artwork and a few other features.

This October we are dedicating our very own Michael Trezza, of Causeway Ford in our employee spotlight. The start of 2019 will mark forty-four years, Michael has worked as a sales consultant here at Causeway! It all began in March of 1975, at the time Causeway was Conti Ford on Bay Ave, in downtown Manahawkin. The first car he ever sold was a 1975 Mustang Ghia, which at that time, the office manager Jane was driving as her demo. He said that it was a beautiful car that everyone wanted. As the years went on, Mike has had the pleasure of watching the dealership grow as we added Honda, Nissan and most recently, Hyundai. He has watched many vehicles come and go and transform into the new models, with the technology we use today. If you were to ask him what his favorite vehicle at Causeway is, he would say the Ford Escape! The Escape just so happens to be our second-best selling Ford vehicle behind the F-150. Mike’s favorite thing to do at Causeway besides selling cars, is to eat his lunch (typically peanut butter and jelly) as soon as he gets in! He enjoys listening to all the salespeople on the floor today and sharing stories about his years here at Causeway Ford. When Mike is not at the Ford showroom you may find him eating pizza at Sawmill in Seaside Park, with his wife Maureen!
During our training process for new salespeople, they are taught a very important tool, the Trezza Vehicle Rule, also known as “TVR”. Named after Mike, this was made famous as he would show each customer that he met, a pre-owned vehicle that was unique or that he really liked. If his customer was searching for a new car, he would insist on showing this vehicle to them and ask them, “Do you know anyone who is looking?”. Mike had much success with this tool, and almost every time he would sell that vehicle eventually. It is a tool we all use today. You can watch Mike on our Causeway Ford YouTube page starring in an old Mercury Commercial!

SOUTHERN OCEAN MEDICAL CENTER NURSES FILE DECERTIFICATION PETITION
September 28, 2018 - Registered nurses at Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking a vote to decertify the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) as their bargaining representative. This action comes while we continue to negotiate in good faith with the union to settle a labor contract for Southern Ocean Medical Center nurses. All Southern Ocean Medical Center nurses will have the right to vote in a decertification election, and our representatives will be working with the
NLRB to get the election scheduled as soon as possible. All unionized nurses at Southern Ocean Medical Center will have the opportunity to vote through a secret ballot about whether or not they want HPAE to continue to represent them. Many of our nurses working today never had a chance to vote on whether they wanted union representation. This election will give all of them an opportunity to be heard about this important issue. We support the rights of nurses and their ability to exercise their federally protected rights in this important matter. In the meantime, as this legal process plays out, we will continue to negotiate in good faith with HPAE for a new labor contract at Southern Ocean Medical Center – just as we also continue to do for the contracts at Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center. Hackensack Meridian Health created a public-facing website so team members can stay current about the status of negotiations:
https://hmh2018negotiations.org.

If you think medical waste and sewage spills are contamination issues limited to waters off the coasts of high pollutant countries like China and Indonesia, then think again. It was a fateful day in late July of 1987 when a 50-mile debris slick full of household garbage, discarded biomedical waste, hospital trash and timbers floated 100 yards off the shoreline from Manasquan to northern Long Beach Island. By the time August rolled in, New Jersey’s Environmental commissioner had officially issued an advisory closing all nearby beaches out of concern that swimmers could be struck by timbers or jabbed by the hypodermic syringes ensnared in the sludge. In the meantime, pill bottles and rubbish had been creeping Southward, washing up on the beaches of Harvey Cedars and moving down, and the tourist season was officially over for LBI before the second month of summer had even begun. Little did anyone know the effects of this catastrophe would linger, continuing into the following year. The environmental disaster was dubbed the “Syringe Tide” and it was later discovered that a barge dumping off of Staten Island’s Fish Kill landfill was to blame. By Labor Day Weekend, LBI locals Ken Smith, Karen Kiss (who would be the organization’s first president) and John Woodland got together and organized a peaceful demonstration in response to this tragedy of LBI’s ocean waters. “Hands Across the Beach” was the first initiative by this alliance that rallied more than 40,000 people of all ages to join hands on a rainy Saturday afternoon along the entire length of Long Beach Island’s 18 miles of coastline to make a public statement and shed light on the issue of the degradation of its ocean waters. That is when the Alliance for a Living Ocean was born. “The mission of the Alliance for a Living Ocean shall be to promote and maintain clean water and a healthy coastal environment through education, research and active participation. We recognize the need to manage our entire watershed, bay and ocean holistically since all water flows from “the raindrop to the ocean.” Commonly referred to by its acronym, ALO, the Alliance for a Living Ocean is a 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots, environmental organization headquartered on Long Beach Island whose goal is to stop pollution and protect the coastal environment which includes the oceans, beaches, and bays, as well as all of its inhabitants. Since its inception three decades ago, the Alliance has been instrumental in changing local ocean dumping regulations as well as the laws that govern the tracking and containment of medical waste. ALO’s legislative action, public engagement and educational efforts have successfully influenced the passing of the “New Jersey Medical Waste Tracking Law” in 1989 and “Clean Water Enforcement Act” in 1990 and led to the eventual shutdown of the Ciba-Geigy pipeline (which was an industrial pipeline based in Toms River that was emptying treated wastewater directly into the ocean). They were a driving force in the eventual closing of New York’s Fresh Kills Landfill, which was ultimately held accountable for the Syringe Tide disaster of 1987-1988. Over the years, ALO has been recognized and awarded for its dedication, environmental commitment to the community and conservationist achievements. These honors hail from various local municipalities to the County of Ocean, to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Department of the Interior for their work with The United States Fish and Wildlife Service locally. Although they have made great strides in this sector of

environmentalism, Alliance for a Living Ocean continues to monitor ocean pollution and is currently working to address the issue of nonpoint source pollution, i.e. polluted runoff from agricultural chemical draining into the ocean and bay, sewer overflow, and wind-borne debris blowing out to sea. In the 1990s ALO joined the LBI Garden Club in their efforts to educate the community on the effects of pesticides/herbicides used on coastal yards. Anyone who has been on LBI during a heavy downpour can attest that rainfall quite literally floods most of the island in an instant, and then flushes out, rinsing the entire surface area into the bay. The very basic storm water runoff is something they attempt to educate the public about, as every bottle of weed-killer like RoundUp (whose main herbicidal active ingredient is glyphosate— something the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) officially classified as a probable human carcinogen, citing “convincing evidence that glyphosate can cause cancer in laboratory animals.”) eventually ends up in the sea. Common herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals that are used on lawns and landscape rocks without a thought unfortunately unavoidably ends up in the waters, are ingested by the living creatures of the sea, which then in turn are ultimately consumed by us all. The Environmental Protection Agency concludes that common trash from consumer goods makes up the majority of what eventually becomes marine debris, polluting our beaches, bay and oceans. There is a growing concern about the hazards of plastic pollution in the marine environment and, according to the EPA, plastics pose both physical (i.e. entanglement, gastrointestinal blockage, reef destruction) and chemical threats (i.e. bioaccumulation of the chemical ingredients of plastic or toxic chemicals absorbed by plastics) to wildlife and the marine ecosystem. “Anyone can see firsthand the direct impacts of our plastic mis-usage and the end result by checking out any of the bayside marshes and wetland areas. Nesting birds like ospreys constantly have balloon strings, bags, and other plastics mixed into the natural material. If you fish via boat you have no doubt seen and retrieved a number of mylar balloons in your time on the water. The effects are obvious,” insists Kyle Gronostajski, Executive Director of ALO. Eric Solheim, Head of the United Nations Environment Program is quoted as saying, “Plastic is a miracle material. Thanks to plastics, countless lives have been saved in the health sector, the growth of clean energy from wind turbines and solar panels has been greatly facilitated, and safe food storage has been revolutionized....Plastic isn’t the problem. It’s what we do with it. And that means the onus is on us to be far smarter in how we use this miracle material.” While the dust regarding the single-use plastics ban on Long Beach Island has yet to settle, Gronostajski does allude to the fact that, respectfully, LBI is actually quite behind the curve regarding this initiative. All of California approved a statewide ban on plastic bags in 2016 (major cities such as San Francisco banned them as far back as 2007), and the same goes for all of Hawaii. With the amount of harmful plastic litter in oceans and seas growing ever greater, the European Commission is even proposing new EU-wide rules to target the 10 single-use plastic products most often found on Europe’s beaches and seas, in addition to lost and abandoned fishing gear. Even Starbucks has announced it will eliminate single-use plastic straws by 2020.

PURCHASE A NEW CAUSEWAY FORD COMMERCIAL VEHICLE FOR A POTENTIAL TAX SAVINGS OPPORTUNITY call Sam at 609-713-6925 The new 2017 IRS Tax Cuts and Jobs Act allows qualifying businesses that invest in new equipment to potentially write-off up to the entire purchase cost of one or more business vehicles on their 2018 IRS tax returns.* This includes qualifying new Ford Commercial vehicles such as Ford Transit, ESeries, F-150 or F-250/350 Super Duty® trucks. For more information, visit IRS.gov and contact your tax professional. Shown without standard antenna. GVWR, are limited to $18,000 of depreciation in the year of purchase with normal MACRS depreciation on the remaining basis in the vehicle in subsequent years. A vehicle is not considered a passenger vehicle, and is thus not limited to the lower depreciation amounts, if it is considered a “qualified non-personal use vehicle”. NISSAN INTELLIGENT MOBILITY VISION TO BRING ‘SAFETY SHIELD 360’ TO TOP-SELLING MODELS, REPRESENTING MORE THAN 1 MILLION VEHICLES ANNUALLY NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan is introducing Safety Shield 360, a suite of six advanced active safety and driverassist technologies, as standard equipment on all of its top-selling models by 2021, representing more than one million vehicles annually. “Our philosophy is to bring Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies to market in our most popular and affordable vehicles,” said Denis Le Vot, chairman, Nissan North America. “Safety Shield 360 combines six advanced systems to give models like Altima and Rogue a classleading package of technologies that can improve safety and the overall driving experience for Nissan owners.” According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), cross traffic alert reduces crashes by 22 percent; the combination of rearview cameras and sensors reduces crashes by 42 percent; and adding rear emergency braking reduces backing crashes by 78 percent compared with vehicles with none of these features. Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes front, side and rear sensing technologies - will first be introduced as standard equipment on SV and SL grades of the upcoming 2019 Rogue, 2019 Rogue Sport and the all-new 2019 Altima, which all go on sale at Nissan dealers in fall 2018.
Other Key Nissan Intelligent Mobility Features Safety Shield 360 is the latest development of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision for changing how cars are driven, powered and integrated into society.
Another key component of Nissan Intelligent Mobility is ProPILOT Assist6, which will be available on the all-new 2019 Altima. ProPILOT Assist eases driver workload by reducing the amount of driver acceleration, steering and braking input under certain driving conditions, during single-lane highway driving. ProPILOT Assist is the foundation for automated vehicles of the future, helping drivers stay centered in the lane, navigate stop-and-go traffic, maintain a set vehicle speed and maintain a set distance to the vehicle ahead. Currently, Nissan offers ProPILOT Assist on the 2018 Rogue and the all-electric 2018 LEAF.

6 THINGS BUYERS WILL LIKE ABOUT THE 2019 LINCOLN NAUTILUS By Mark Phelan, Detroit Free Press
You can actually remember the name of Lincoln’s new luxury SUV, but that’s the least of the reasons buyers will like the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus, due at dealers in early October. The Nautilus replaces the MKX. It’s the latest Lincoln to ditch strings of letters in favor of something revolutionary among luxury brands: A noun. Next up: The Aviator, a bigger, all-new SUV that will offer a plug-in hybrid. It arrives in 2019. The Nautilus competes with midsize SUVs such as the Cadillac XT5, Infiniti QX50 and Lexus RX. It offers Lincoln’s latest drivetrain technology, infotainment and smartphone features. Keys to the new SUV’s appeal: It’s the first vehicle to use Ford’s new eight-speed automatic transmission. Performance and fuel economy benefit significantly. The 2.7-liter, 335-horsepower engine I drove most of the day had no problem passing on uphills despite tipping the scales at 4,305 pounds. The 2019 Ford
Edge — architecture-mate to the Nautilus — gets the eight-speed this fall. Fuel economy also improves. The 250-hp 2.0L turbocharged base engine’s combined city/highway EPA fuel economy rating rose 3 mpg compared with the MKX’s base 3.7L engine. Fuel economy for the 335-hp 2.7L V6 rose 2 mpg in each category: city, highway and combined. Both figures apply to front-drive models. All-wheel-drive Nautiluses benefit from a disconnecting rear axle. It saves fuel by reducing friction and drag in the drivetrain when there’s no need for all-wheel-drive. Unlike the new Cadillac XT4, which requires the driver to change drive modes to disconnect the rear drivetrain, electronics manage the change in the Nautilus. That means all-wheel-drive automatically engages whenever a wheel begins to slip. The Nautilus is the first Lincoln to offer CoPilot360, a suite of standard safety features that includes pedestrian detection,
automatic emergency front braking, automatic high beams, backup camera, blind-spot and cross-traffic alerts. Other available safety and driver assistance features include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control (ACC) and lane centering. Lane centering subtly helps keep the Nautilus in the middle of its lane when ACC is engaged.
Lincoln will promote the Nautilus’s safety with compulsively watchable commercials in which a trick-shot pool champ simulates features including automatic braking, postcollision braking, lane-centering and more. They should air late this year and deserve start a new craze for pool. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and AppLink allows Lincoln’s infotainment system to use Waze, the navigation app that dishes real-time updates to avoid traffic tie-ups. And fewer wrong turns than the still-iffy Apple Maps, not that anybody got lost on the way to their hotel yesterday.
2019 Lincoln Nautilus
The Nautilus’s infotainment system also with Alexa, Amazon’s digital assistant, and
Tidal, the premium music streaming service Jay Z, Beyoncé and Kanye West own and promote. Tidal charges an eye-watering $19.99 a month, but it streams higher fidelity music than streaming services like Pandora and Spotify. Lincoln promises you can tell the difference with the Nautilus’s optional Revel audio. Nautilus prices start at $40,340 for frontwheel drive and $42,835 with AWD. All prices exclude destination charges. The upscale Reserve and Black Label trim levels — starting at $48,875 and $56,895, respectively — accounted for about twothirds of MKX sales. Lincoln expects that to rise with the Nautilus. Lincoln builds the Nautilus in Oakville, Ontario. That assembly site should work in the Nautilus’s favor in the U.S.-China trade war because Lincoln exports it to China, where the MKX was also sold. standard on all 2019 Civic sedans and coupes as the Honda Sensing package rolls out across the entire lineup. That includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist, among other driver-assistance technology.
We’re also happy to note that the Civic gets an updated version of the HondaLink infotainment system, which comes standard on all trim levels except the base LX. On the revamped 7.0-inch touchscreen system, Honda finally does away with the annoying touch-sensitive slider control for audio volume and replaces it with a conventional knob (we assume the Civic’s system will look similar to the setup on the 2018 Fit). 2019 Honda Civic
UPDATE 9/24/18: Honda has released more details about the 2019 Civic, including the fact that sedans and coupes with the optional 1.5-liter turbo fourcylinder engine will no longer be offered with a six-speed manual transmission; a CVT is now standard on the 1.5T-powered EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. We have also updated our story below with pricing for the 2019 lineup and additional details on the new Sport trim level.

The EX, which now comes with the 1.5-liter turbo four rather than the 2.0-liter, starts at $24,295 for the sedan and $24,095 for the coupe, and the top Civic Touring starts at $28,195 for the sedan and More active-safety features are now $27,745 for the coupe.
The new Civic Sport sedan and coupe differ from the Sport hatchback in that they have the base naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four rather than the more powerful 1.5-liter turbo four. “If you’re in the market for a stylish sedan with top third-party safety ratings, look no further than the Honda Insight.” said Ray Mikiciuk, assistant vice president of Honda Automobile Sales. “On top of its class-leading safety features, Insight is also a comfortable 5-seat hybrid with great fuel economy ratings.” On sale since June 29, the 2019 Honda Insight offers class-leading power and passenger space, universally appealing styling, and an EPA fuel economy rating of 55 mpg2 city (LX/EX), while simultaneously bringing a new level of driving sophistication and style to the compact hybrid market. All 2019 Insights are equipped with the Honda Sensing® suite of active safety and driver assistive features as standard equipment. Insight’s standard Honda Sensing® helps provide greater awareness of driving conditions around the vehicle, in some cases helping drivers maintain lane position, and, under certain conditions, is capable of slowing or even stopping the vehicle if it detects a potential front collision. Comprising the Honda Sensing® suite are Collision Mitigation Braking SystemTM (CMBSTM) with Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The 2019 Insight is the latest of nine current Honda models to earn a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from NHTSA. The other eight are Accord, Civic (except Type R, which was not rated), Fit, HR-V, CR-V (2018), Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline.

Join ALO every 2nd Saturday of the month for their Beach Clean Up initiative, as volunteers are in short supply. Regardless of the legislative outcome of plastics on the island, ALO urges for residents and consumers at the very least to recycle more and consider source reduction strategies towards living plastic-free as much as possible. The best way to reduce plastic pollution is to reduce its usage and production. One of the core pillars of ALO’s mission towards reaching their goals of cleaner and healthier oceans is through education and outreach. The Executive Director and willing volunteers dedicate many hours of educational content in the form of classroom visits, field trips, applied activities and more. The objective of all of their educational seminars is bringing awareness to the many issues they are involved in, in a fun and hands-on way, much like the weekly “Critter Roundup” which involves children seining the bay and observing, holding and learning about the creatures they find. The group also hosts a number of fundraisers throughout the year in the form of paddle races, surf contests

HYUNDAI SANTA FE WINS 2018 WARDS 10 BEST UX TROPHY
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 19, 2018 – The all-new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe has been named to the Wards 10 Best UX list. The competition drills deeply in to user experiences in driver-assist technologies, connectivity, navigation, voice-activated systems and intuitive controls. The Santa Fe was acknowledged for its new technologies that make it easy for a driver to interact with the vehicle systems and controls.
WardsAuto recognized the Hyundai Santa Fe (Ultimate trim) as being loaded with ‘exemplary’ UX features including an easy-to-reach center stack with hard buttons on either side, two USB ports in front and two in the second row, and a 360-degree camera view to help get in and out of tight parking spaces. Additionally, the Santa Fe’s was also highlighted for its effective voice control and head-up display featuring loads of information.

The result is a more robust and enjoyable on-road listening experience.
The 2019 Santa Fe is loaded with technology, including Hyundai’s latest AVN 5.0 navigation system with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ offered with higher level trims. Additional safety features include the optional Rear Occupant Alert, which Hyundai is debuting with the 2019 Santa Fe. The system monitors the rear seats using an ultrasonic sensor that helps to detect the movements of children and pets. The system first reminds drivers to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle with a message on the center instrument cluster display. If the system detects movement in the rear seats after the driver leaves the vehicle and locks the doors it will honk the horn and send a Blue Link alert to the driver’s smartphone via Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car system. The system is designed to help prevent children and pets from being forgotten in the car, but it also helps in case children accidentally lock themselves in. The 2019 Santa Fe also features Hyundai’s first standard Safe Exit Assist system. To enhance the safety of Hyundai’s passengers, Safe Exit Assist uses radar to help detect cars approaching from the rear and cautions passengers looking to exit the vehicle. If a passenger attempts to open the door when a car is approaching from behind, a visual and acoustic warning on the center cluster may alert the driver. In addition, if the driver attempts to deactivate the Electronic Child Safety Lock feature, Safe Exit Assist will override the driver and ensure the rear doors remain locked until the approaching vehicle has passed. Once the road is clear, the driver can then deactivate the Electronic Child Safety Lock and successfully unlock the rear passenger doors.
