Welcome to the EIGHTH full season at the Center for the Performing Arts! We Are pleased and honored to present another exciting year of music and more on our campus.
INTRODUCING
The Center for the Performing Arts recently concluded one of the most successful seasons in its history, with 14 sold-out concerts at the Palladium and first-time visitors accounting for 37% of total attendance. At the same time, our staff was setting the bar higher, working to assemble a 2018-19 schedule with a range of artists and styles that promise entertaining, engaging and inspiring experiences for people of all ages and tastes. We hope you will find that richness and variety in the pages that follow, with more than 40 concerts and other performances from the worlds of pop, rock, blues, jazz, classical, country, world music, the Great American Songbook, children’s theater and more. We’re extremely proud to bring you such legendary figures as Brian Wilson, the co-founder of the Beach Boys, and Buddy Guy, one of the last great Chicago bluesmen; the romantic grandeur of the Russian National Orchestra playing Rachmaninoff; top-flight jazz from guitar whiz Pat Metheny; a Songbook evening with Broadway/TV star Megan Hilty; fun ’70s flashbacks with tributes to Queen and ABBA; a free concert from the magnificent United States Marine Band; and the central Indiana debuts of emerging artists such as Canadian singer-songwriter Royal Wood and one of New York City’s hottest young jazz vocalists, Veronica Swift. In addition to the world-class performances on our stages, the Center offers a variety of education and outreach programs for the community, from dance classes and children’s music to book clubs and ukulele lessons. You can read more about them on page 24. The Center also is home to the Great American Songbook Foundation and its exhibit gallery (see page 22), as well as six fabulous Resident Companies with their own upcoming seasons of music, theater and dance, as you’ll see on page 28. Thanks to the creativity and efforts of this extended family, the Center has attracted more than 780,000 patrons since opening in 2011. Please join us this season!
