CHRIS ISAAK: FIRST COMES THE NIGHT

Tuesday, July 5 at 7:30pm | The Palladium

Chris Isaak has a reputation as a supreme showman and one of the funniest live performers today. Isaak is a non-stop touring Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, actor and talk show host. With his stellar bandmates, Silvertone, Isaak’s haunting voice, fierce guitar, and glittered outfits, Isaak has entertained fans for decades. His new album, First Comes the Night, is Isaak’s first recording of original songs in six years. It was recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles and produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell), Paul Worley (Dixie Chicks, Lady Antebellum), and longtime collaborator Mark Needham. First Comes the Night is the follow up to Isaak’s 2011 Beyond The Sun masterpiece CD - a breathtaking tribute album to Sun Records, Sam Phillips and the visionary artists who continue to inspire him and helped shape the early sounds of rock ‘n’ roll. Standout Isaak hits include the iconic “Wicked Game,” “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing” and “Somebody’s Crying.” He has appeared on many TV shows and has acted in several films and starred in Showtime’s The Chris Isaak Show and the Chris Isaak Hour on the Biography Channel. Isaak, a recent judge on the X-Factor in Australia, performed at the opening of the Super Bowl festivities in San Francisco and was recently profiled on CBS Sunday Morning.

MICHAEL MCDONALD Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30pm | The Palladium Two notes. That’s all it takes to recognize the voice of Michael McDonald. Distinctive and soulful, it is one of the most yearningly emotive instruments of our times. To this add formidable songwriting and keyboard skills, and you have an artist who has been a singular musical presence for four decades. From ‘70s-era Doobie Brothers classics such as “What A Fool Believes” and solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’” through two highly-acclaimed Motown albums, genre-busting guest spots and innovative concept shows, the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is both timeless and ever-evolving. Beyond his music, McDonald has long been an active humanitarian. He has lent his talents and energies to many causes and benefits, including MusiCares, the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, the 7UP Grammy Signature Schools Program and was part of a starstudded lineup at Kokua For Japan, a concert that raised $1.6 million for tsunami relief.

Meet The Mentors Michael Feinstein, Master of Ceremonies More than a mere performer, Michael Feinstein is nationally recognized for his commitment to the Great American Songbook, both celebrating its art and preserving its legacy for the next generation. His Emmy nominated TV special, Michael Feinstein – The Sinatra Legacy, which was taped live at the Palladium in Carmel, IN, aired across the country in 2011. The PBS series “Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook” was the recipient of the ASCAP Deems-Taylor Television Broadcast Award. The series returned in 2013 for a third season, which is now available on DVD. His next primetime TV Special on PBS, Michael Feinstein at The Rainbow Room, aired on New Year’s Eve, 2014. For his nationally syndicated public radio program “Song Travels,” Michael interviews and performs alongside music luminaries such as Bette Midler, Neil Sedaka, Liza Minnelli, Rickie Lee Jones, David Hyde Pierce and more. See more on page 37. Sylvia McNair Two-time Grammy Award winner and regional Emmy Award winner, Sylvia McNair lays claim to a three-decade career in the musical realms of opera, oratorio, cabaret and musical theater. Sylvia earned a Masters degree with Distinction from the Indiana University School of Music, received honorary doctorates from Westminster College (1997) and Indiana University (1998), the Ohio Governor’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts and Entertainment (1999), and the Indiana Governor’s Arts Award (2011). Janis Siegel Over the past three decades, the voice of Janis Siegel, a nine-time Grammy winner and a seventeen-time Grammy nominee, has been an undeniable force in The Manhattan Transfer’s diverse musical catalog. Alongside her career as a member of this 32-year musical institution, Siegel has also sustained a solo career that has spawned more than a half dozen finelycrafted solo albums and numerous collaborative projects, amassed a large international fan base and garnered consistently high critical praise. Siegel’s eighth and latest solo recording, Sketches of Broadway, spotlights classic Broadway hits by Irving Berlin, Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim and others. Jarrod Spector The Philadelphia native debuted on Broadway as Gavroche in Les Miserables, then took an academic detour to Princeton before rededicating himself to a career as a performer. Jarrod opened the Chicago company of Jersey Boys in the role of Frankie Valli, and was tapped to perform the role on Broadway in 2008. After fifteen hundred performances, Jarrod went on to star in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical for two years. His portrayal of Barry Mann earned him a 2014 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Last year, Spector and his wife Kelli Barrett premiered their show "This is Dedicated" at New York's Broadway nightclub, Feinstein's/54 Below, for an extended engagement. Jarrod and Kelli have since performed this show throughout the country. They will return to Feinstein's/54 Below for another engagement this fall.

THE SONGBOOK ACADEMY®

Now in its seventh year, the Songbook Academy® is a summer music intensive for young singers who have an interest in the Great American Songbook. It is the only program of its kind in the United States. High school students who love the music of classic Broadway shows, jazz, and popular music have the life-changing opportunity to work with music industry professionals, Broadway performers, and educators from the top university music and theatre programs in the country to learn about this uniquely American music. Though the Songbook Academy® is perhaps the Songbook Foundation’s most visible educational program, the organization works throughout the year on a variety of other programs and initiatives that celebrate the Great American Songbook. This program was funded in part by a grant from the Efroymson Family Fund.

Black’s continued success can be attributed in part to his deep sense of Country music history, and his humble gratitude in being an important part of it. The 1989 debut of his critically acclaimed fan favorite, the Triple Platinum Killin’ Time, marked a shift in the industry, with a return to the more traditional sounds of the genre. CMT lists this album as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Country Music. Without a doubt, Clint Black has earned his place as one of the most successful artists in the history of American music; but he has not stopped there. Black memorably flexed his acting chops with a cameo in 1994’s Maverick, as well as with roles in films such as 2000’s Going Home and the starring roles in Still Holding On: The Legend of Cadillac Jack, Flicka 2, Flicka, Country Pride, released in March of 2012. series sponsor

Wayne Catania ("Joliet" Jake) Wayne Catania is an established and respected musician (AFM), actor, and creative writer with a career spanning four decades. In the late 1970’s, Wayne’s resemblance to the late, great John Belushi opened the door to showcasing his own formidable acting and musical talents onstage and onscreen. Joining ACTRA as a character actor, he was cast in numerous feature films, television shows, and international advertising campaigns. Wayne’s charismatic and animated physical style were instrumental in forming a persona that now complimented his achievements on the live music stage. All of this has culminated in the opportunity to be cast as Jake Blues in the Classic Blues Brothers Stage Show—a part that Wayne is very specifically qualified for and passionate about and which is, in reality, the pinnacle of his life’s work. Over the past fifteen years, Wayne Catania has been the face and personality of the immortal Jake Blues, touring the continental US and Canada with both Official Blues Brothers Revue. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Outside the world of All Things Blues Brothers, Wayne enjoys everything about vintage automobiles and cycling. Wayne has recently worked with Kieron, Judy Belushi Pisano, and Anne Beatts (Saturday Night Live, Square Pegs) to write the pilot for a TV show based on the further adventures of Jake & Elwood Blues. Kieron Lafferty (Elwood Blues) Originally from Toronto, Canada, Kieron Lafferty was influenced by the great acts that played at his father’s nightclub, The Electric Circus. Legends like Sam & Dave, Credence Clearwater Revival, and The Doors were the wellspring of his youth. Following the footsteps of his mentors, he began a career as a musician, playing in the Toronto blues/rock circuit where he gained a solid reputation for his soulful vocals and melodic harmonica lines. In the 1990s, Kieron focused on songwriting and released several CDs, including Sensible Religion and Seven Sisters, produced by Arnold Lanni. Well received by critics, the tracks ‘Thankful’ and ‘Money Speaks’ earned steady airplay in Canada and over the next few years he toured with his band E-KEY & THE HEAD. As an actor Kieron has had roles in a number of films including The Stem, by Alan Royal, and Synchronicity, a rockumentary by Bob Connolly. He and brother Sean wrote the music and the songs for the film and subsequent CD Signs in the Sky. Filmmaker Paul Jay cast Kieron in the A&E docudrama Lost in Las Vegas. Kieron wrote the film score (Continued on next page.) 33

and with the help of Eric Schenkman (Spin Doctors), those sessions evolved into a CD of eclectic blues called Boomtown. Venturing into musical theatre in 1998, Kieron joined the cast of the award winning Las Vegas show ‘Legends in Concert’ as Elwood Blues. The Blues Brothers act evolved beyond the Las Vegas show rooms and together with his stage partner Wayne Catania (Jake) they starred in the Blues Brothers Revival, a musical written by Victor Pisano and staged in Chicago in 2004. Since that time, their Blues Brothers act has toured extensively across the US, Canada and Australia, and they are currently touring in The Official Blues Brothers Revue produced by Judy Belushi Pisano and Dan Aykroyd, with Musical Director Paul Shaffer. In addition to his stage work, Kieron also puts his extremely versatile vocal ability to work in commercials, narration and animation. Currently, Kieron, Judy Belushi Pisano, Anne Beatts (Saturday Night Live, Square Pegs) and Wayne Catania have just finished writing the pilot for an action/comedy/musical TV show based on the further adventures of Jake & Elwood Blues.
