WELCOME Dear Friends, Welcome to the Center for the Performing Arts’ 2021 Gala, All Together Now! presented by Krieg DeVault. Whether you are joining us virtually or in person tonight, it is wonderful that we can celebrate the return of full-scale, on-site arts and education events at the Center. For a number of reasons, this year’s gala is like no other. Despite the challenges of the past 18 months, the Center has continued to fulfill its mission to engage and inspire the Central Indiana community through enriching arts experiences. As other arts organizations closed their doors and furloughed employees, the Center maintained its talented and experienced staff, who created new programs and adapted existing ones for online delivery. In a strategic move, the Center invested some of its untapped concert production budget in broadcast-quality video and streaming technology that has already been employed for scores of events, including livestreamed performances by local artists and national conferences for rental clients. Thanks to these new capabilities, we are able to share the Center’s gala, for the first time ever, with a global audience. Of course, none of this work would have been possible without the generous support of patrons, donors and sponsors like you. We thank you for joining us, and we encourage you to take part in the online auction and consider a donation to the Looking Forward Fund, supporting the Center’s vital mission. Sincerely, Leah and Eric Payne Suzanne and Ron Mencias Gala Committee Co-Chairs Gala Committee: Susan and Andy Anderson, Katrina and Frank Basile, Dawn and Tom Bennett,
Shannon and Matt Branic, Bethany and Brian Burdick, Lorene Burkhart, Laura and Rick Campbell, Brandi Davis-Handy, Cheri and Rollie Dick, Lynda Goeke and Don Katz, Pam and Don Gottwald, Sandy and Steve Hageman, Karen and Mike Heaton, Bali Heir, Tabitha Hufhand, Zak Khan, Adam Kline, Abbey Mooney, Sam Muse, Liza and Anthony Najem, Elizabeth and Dan Philpott, Karen Poyser, Debbie and Mike Rechin, Micki Stirsman, Libby and David Symmes, Victoria and David Temple, Carol Urbanski, Jona and Jeff Wells
THANK YOU Thank you to the All Together Now! Annual Gala presented by Krieg DeVault sponsors!
PEOPLE. TRUST. EXPERIENCE. ®
LOOKING FORWARD AND EMBRACING INNOVATION Alongside the world-class arts and entertainment events presented at the Center’s three venues, a vital element of the overall mission is to provide a robust menu of educational and experiential opportunities for people of all ages. They include:
• Introductory classes in vocal and instrumental music, dance, stand-up comedy and other pursuits • Faegre Drinker Peanut Butter & Jam sessions – introducing preschoolers to the joy of live music and performance • FrontRow – enabling high school and college music students to sit in on artist sound checks and engage in conversation about the business and life of a professional performer • Classics in Context – expert presentations on classical music and its history • JazzTalk – live online discussions about jazz history and interviews with leading musicians • Performing Arts Connect – online “field trips” to museums and other arts institutions across the nation • A literary initiative that includes the Palladium Bookies book club for adults and the Palladium PALS reading program for kids • Palladium Players – fun and casual table readings of works written for the stage • Educational videoconferences for schools
These programs – many offered free of charge – not only continued during the pandemic but thrived. When in-person public gatherings were limited, the Center pivoted to digital delivery through social media, videoconferencing and new livestreaming capabilities. In some ways, the technology enabled deeper and more diverse offerings, with artists, educators and experts sharing meaningful and engaging content with new and longtime patrons regardless of geography. Now the Center is looking forward to a second decade of continued growth and development. Your contributions to the Looking Forward Fund – matched up to $25,000 tonight by our presenting sponsor, Krieg DeVault – directly support the return to standard programming, as well as the ongoing exploration of innovative means to bring the arts to everyone.
AT&T Indiana believes in investing in the communities where they live and work. We are grateful for the $10,000 from AT&T that’s supporting educational programming and high-quality lifelong learning opportunities offered by the Center. © 2021 AT&T Intellectual Property. The mission of the Center for the Performing Arts is to engage and inspire the Central Indiana community through enriching arts experiences. The Center for the Performing Arts is a nonprofit arts and education organization responsible for the operation and programming of a three-venue campus at Carmel’s City Center. Together, the 1,600-seat Palladium, the 500-seat Tarkington and the smaller black-box Studio Theater create a welcoming environment for the regional community to experience and participate in all forms of the performing arts. Each year, the Center Presents performance season offers more than 40 concerts and other events in the fields of pop, rock, country, jazz, classical, comedy, family programming and more. The Center also is home to the affiliated Great American Songbook Foundation and provides space, ticketing and other support services for six Resident Companies: Actors Theatre of Indiana, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, Civic Theatre, Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and Indiana Wind Symphony. Center facilities also are available for rental events, including performances, corporate meetings, weddings and other social occasions. The Center also is home to the affiliated Great American Songbook Foundation, a Cultural Affiliate of the Los Angelesbased GRAMMY Museum®, which carries
out its mission to inspire and educate by celebrating America’s timeless popular music. This affiliation brings an interactive Exhibit Gallery, the Songbook Hall of Fame, research opportunities and educational programs for all ages to the Center’s campus. Since opening in 2011, the Center has hosted over 2,400 performances for 1 million patrons representing all 92 counties in Indiana, all 50 states and 25 nations. The campus also welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for public events such as the Carmel Farmers Market and the holiday Christkindlmarkt. The Center is a key component of Carmel’s arts-based economic development strategy. The Center’s education and outreach initiatives include programs for children and families, such as the interactive Peanut Butter & Jam concert series for preschoolers, the Palladium PALS reading club, educational videoconferences for students around the state, and our Student Discount Ticket program, through which students can attend performances for just $15. Programs for adults include military discounts, the Palladium Bookies reading club, the Luminaries daytime lecture series, and classes in vocal performance, dance, stand-up comedy and ukulele. With your support, we can continue and expand our arts and educational programming, both on and off campus. Learn more at TheCenterPresents.org/ Support.
