LEONARDO DA VINCI’S HEAD OF A BEAR TO BE OFFERED AT CHRISTIE’S LONDON ON 8 JULY Leonardo da Vinci’s Head of a Bear will be offered for sale at Christie’s in London as a highlight lot in the Exceptional Sale, taking place live on 8 July. This penetrating study of a bear’s head is one of less than eight surviving drawings by Leonardo still in private hands outside of the British Royal Collection and the Devonshire Collections at Chatsworth, and is expected to sell for £8,000,000-12,000,000. Inspired by this Old Master drawing, Hackatao, an artist duo born in Milan and who have been pioneering the crypto art space since 2018, have created a digital companion piece to that of da Vinci, bringing the bear majestically to life. This specially commissioned digital work was unveiled at Christie’s King Street from 3 July, as part of the Classic Week view, visible via the Aria AR app. The digital work has been donated to The Museum of Crypto Art where it will subsequently appear.

Stijn Alsteens, International Head of Department, Old Master Drawings, Christie’s Paris comments, ‘Leonardo’s exceptional powers of observation and skills as a draughtsman allowed him to capture the world surrounding him like no one had done before – and indeed, like very few have been able to do since. As described in one of his notebooks, the studies he made from nature could also form the basis for works of fantasy and imagination. His ‘Head of a Bear’, made in the early 1480’s, seems to have been used by him when he was working on his celebrated portrait of Cecilia Gallerani in Cracow, which includes an idealized depiction of an ermine. The practice of seeing and studying reality whilst understanding its structure, beauty and artistic potential enabled him to transform it into a new work of art which he made his own - much as innovative digital artists like Hackatao do today.’

Tell us about your education.

I’ve done bachelors degree in Journalism and Mass Communication at Vivekananda Education of Professional Studios, Delhi. After that I went onto do my Masters, but two months into it, I got a call for an audition, and I came to Mumbai. So, I never could get time to finish my maters.

What are your memories?

favourite

childhood

I was a very playful kid. I used to play with my friends all through the day, and my mother would get tired of me not coming back home from play. I used to have a lot of fun playing with my friends as a kid.

Who inspired you to take up acting as a career?

It’s my parents who have really amazing personalities. They all wanted to get into the entertainment industry. Especially my grandmother, she was just so beautiful in her younger days. But now I feel like I made their dreams come true.

When and how did you get into acting?

After my college, I started giving auditions. It was my second or third audition, and I was called to Bombay. So, that’s how it all started. But when I was three, I did do a serial in DD Metro called We Love You. But I had to leave it because I was way too young. So, my parents decided that I’d get back to acting maybe later in life. But it was then that I decided that I wanted to become an actor.

Please briefly describe your journey so far?

It’s been almost three and half years, and it’s been amazing. It’s always gotten better with each project. God has been very kind to me, and I’ve been able to achieve a lot due to the blessing and support from my family and friends. I still just feel it’s the start, and there’s a long way to go.

How was your experience working on Crashh web series? With Crashh, I got a good taste of the web space. I’ve worked in television before, but Crashh taught me a lot about acting, and being myself. The experience has been amazing. From the director to my coach, everyone was amazing. I’ve learned so much from them all.

How do you feel it ranking on top?

I feel blessed and overwhelmed, and I don’t have words to express how I feel. I feel blessed.

What was your favourite part of Crashh?

I did poetry, which I think was super fun, and really interesting.

17

What projects are you now working on?

Do you have any tricks or routines to stay healthy and beautiful?

If not an actor, what would you be?

Your motto in life?

I’m working on a few music videos, and I have a web project coming up. But due to the pandemic, a lot of things got pushed. But I can’t wait to bounce back soon, and start shooting again!

I had plan Bs but I love being an actor. But if not an actor, I would have either been a VJ or maybe a reporter- I always wanted to be on the screen. But acting has always been my preference.

Best thing about being an actress?

I get to play a lot of characters. I may not be a warrior princess in real life, but on screen I can. So, it’s interesting to live the lives of various characters.

I think my mother can answer that. For me, I use a lot of home remedies to keep myself looking good. I use milk for my skin. I also eat healthy, and stay away from junk food.

Simple Living and High Thinking. Live and Let Live.

Do you have any other secret talent(s)?

I can sing, and I recently started playing Ukele. I also play the guitar and the drums. I can also mimic people sometimes. I’m also a quick learner.

Your message for us at CiiN magazine.

Thank you so much for the interview and featuring me on the cover. All the best!

..And the hardest?

Rumours. With all the attention you may get, there also come nasty comments. I also don’t like how female actors get paid less than male actors. People need to understand that women deserve equal pay.

18

What do you like to do away from acting?

When I’m away from acting, I love to travel, and I love to spend time with my family, and friends. So, when I’m not acting, I’m either traveling or working out.

Which Bollywood actor are you keen to work with and why? Ranveer Singh. We’re both extremely energetic, I love his vibe. He’d be amazing to work with.

The hardest or difficult scene you’ve ever filmed?

A lot of scenes have been difficult. There are many times when I laugh through the day, but then I have to deliver a sad scene. So having to get emotional intentionally can be mentally draining. Even when you have to happy onscreen when you’re sad- well, that’s sad.

Three things that make you happy?

Little things make me happy. Like spending time with my family and friends, going out with them, watch movies, and travelling. I love workations as well. I also do appreciate the little efforts that are put in by my friends, or even special fan messages; it makes me happy.

www.theciin.com

Favourite Sport: Swimming Favourite Music: I love pop. I love Adele and Taylor Swift, Daft Punk, Pink Floyd. All depends on my mood. Travel Destination: Wherever, whenever. I just love to travel. I’m always ready to go. Also, the company really matters. Favourite TV Show: I grew up watching Sharaarat. Favourite Food: Chole Kulche Favourite all-time movie: Barfi in Bollywood, and The Notebook in Hollywood

BY FAR LAUNCHES CORE STYLES CAMPAIGN RACHEL is the epitome of 90s cool, having a celebrity status and A-list best friends. AMBER is a sarcastic workaholic with a trafficstopping street style game. MINI likes to be considered a lady who sometimes gets freaky with the colours. Unable to escape the limelight, MINI RACHEL never misses a dancefloor, while MIRANDA is known for her low key, pragmatic, but not by any means boring approach to work and having fun. ESTE is a rock and roll princess with an inherited California cool who secretly wants to be Carrie Bradshaw. EDIE will always be remembered as an OG It-girl with a rebellious sense of style, but she has a quiet side too.

26

SOFIA captures the distinct retro sensibility of a noir film. As for TANYA, her barely-there presence makes it the queen of versatility. This is not the dream cast of a new stylish TV series, but the star pieces of BY FAR’s new core styles campaign. Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, BY FAR is returning to its origins with a nostalgic campaign, highlighting its most iconic styles. Proven to be perfect and timeless, these are not just best-selling pieces but wardrobe staples connecting the origins of the brand to the present. Since the beginning, BY FAR’s creative vision focuses on reimagining timeless silhouettes with no compromise on quality, finish, or design. The result is a long-lasting product that always remains relevant. Designing with the future in mind, using the finest artisanal techniques and mindfully sourced materials is part of BY FAR’s ongoing commitment to continuously doing better and bringing about practices that protect and preserve the world we live in. www.theciin.com

27

The campaign features one of fashion’s most sought after faces – the model, artist, and poet Amrit. A role model in the making, her multitalented personality both reflects the brand’s creative vision of constant reinvention and adds richness to BY FAR’s iconic cast. Amrit, constantly reimagining her passions, represents the plurality within the collection of the brand’s most appealing pieces throughout the years. The line-up of BY FAR’s most-wanted styles is offered each season, faithful to the originals in terms of shapes and details but upgraded in colours and materials.

Fabergé Debuts the 1842 Collection Fabergé is delighted to announce the launch of its 1842 collection, which pays homage to the year when Gustav Fabergé opened his jewellery boutique in St. Petersburg. Comprising 11 pieces, this fine jewellery collection is inspired by the gold jewellery and precious accessories Fabergé began producing in the years before the first Imperial Egg was born. Each piece showcases Fabergé’s iconic egg-shaped hallmark, in 18k yellow gold. The 1842 collection has been designed with versatility in mind – perfect for stacking and layering, and effortlessly adapting to modern life.

www.theciin.com

49 While it was the magnificent Imperial Easter eggs that made the House of Fabergé a world-renowned name, these represent only a fraction of its artistic creations. The Workmasters at Fabergé transformed everything from cigarette cases to clocks and picture frames into imaginative works of art. It was this trademark ability to enhance everyday objects through the application of sophisticated goldsmithing and gemstone-setting and of course its world-renowned enamelling techniques, that made Fabergé internationally famous throughout the royal courts of Europe. Popular commissions included small pieces of jewellery such as brooches, cufflinks and stickpins decorated with imperial symbols. These smaller, more versatile, designs are what have inspired Fabergé’s new 1842 collection of fine jewellery – a contemporary range perfect for everyday use, and designed to complement the wearer’s unique, signature style. Comprising necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings, each 18k gold piece embodies the legacy of Fabergé in a way that is modern, yet charming. The 1842 collection is defined by timeless beauty, with clean lines and contemporary silhouettes, transforming Fabergé’s iconic egg shape into everyday wearable creations. The design of this Fabergé hallmark originally took its inspiration from the Cyrillic letter for F – Ф – as seen in many of the house’s pre-1917 masterpieces. The oval shape was subtly tweaked to form the shape of an egg, an iconic and enduring symbol of Fabergé’s rich history. The new collection is a perfect symphony of all these design elements, celebrating the house’s past, present and future all coming together in the signature shorthand of these iconic logoed pieces making up the new Fabergé 1842 collection

June, 2021

Within the range of 11 pieces, all crafted from 18k yellow gold, there is a combination of delicate engraving alongside cut-out designs to create contrast. In keeping with Fabergé’s penchant for surprise, a ruby, responsibly sourced from Gemfields Montepuez ruby mine in Mozambique, is hidden within. Rubies are a symbol of passion, prosperity and protection, making them the perfect secret addition to this striking new collection. The starting price for the collection is £1,680/$1,890 and will be available to buy at faberge.com and in Fabergé boutiques. Enquiries can be directed to sales@faberge. com and will be passed on to a member of the Customer Relationship Team.

Introducing ‘Stargazing’, an ethical and sustainable Fine Jewellery collection by Reem & Natalya Kanj x FYNE

www.theciin.com

FYNE Jewellery has already become renowned as the Middle East’s first contemporary fine jewellery brand, purposefully created using conflict-free, earth friendly lab grown diamonds. Ethical, sustainable and accessible, FYNE Jewellery represents an empowered jewellery movement founded by third generation Lebanese diamantaire Aya Ahmad, as she set about to minimise the detrimental impact of the diamond industry. In a new development for FYNE, the brand has partnered with Reem and Natalya Kanj, digital influencers, entrepreneurs and style identities, to create a curated capsule collection of highly desirable, delicate fine jewellery pieces. Reem and Natalya Kanj collaborate with FYNE Jewellery to create timeless sustainable designs inspired by conscious living. The collection ‘Stargazing’ is a limited edition collaboration of five unique celestial pieces: two rings, a necklace, body chain, and a pair of earrings. All pieces are responsibly sourced 18K gold, each FYNE piece is consciously crafted in Dubai using the highest calibre lab grown diamonds for jewellery that looks good, feels good and does good. The pieces honour their vow to be more mindful and minimal in the best interest of our planet. From sourcing ethical gold to using diamonds grown from renewable and recyclable energy sources to giving back to the communities in which they operate, FYNE considers their brand values to be non negotiable, and therefore partnering with Reem and Natalya, who are staunch sustainability advocates, is a perfect match. FYNE Jewellery collections are made in small batches using a made to order approach which allows the brand to minimise waste whilst simultaneously allowing their artisans to take the time to craft pieces that embody the brand’s “buy now, wear forever” ethos.

57

Ranging from AED 330 for minimal and dainty pieces, through to AED 5,390 for a bodychain design with accent diamonds, the range offers the opportunity for accessible, ethical indulgence at a wide variety of price points, with the hope of reaching a broad audience.

An anemone print flower dress with exploded sleeves in rose gold poly faille.

It feels like now is a time for healing, for breathing new life, for exploring echoes from the past to enrich our future. More than ever, a sense of humanity, of the team working together with a single aim – to make something beautiful, something meaningful – feels both precious and important. We looked at water, for its healing properties, and at anemones. Anemones are the most ephemeral flowers, here made permanent in cloth. The women wearing the anemone dresses almost become like flowers, like their embodiment, their character – but amplified, grounded, radiant and strong. PRESENTING THE AURORA COLLECTION BY NINA RUNSDORF

88

At Nina Runsdorf, we have always been captivated with all the different ways light shines through and touches the pieces that we create. So, for this collection, Nina found her inspiration in Aurora, the Roman goddess of the dawn and sunrise. The Aurora Collection is also a nod to the 'auroras', the natural light shows that can be observed near the North or South Pole. Despite being best seen in the night sky, the extraordinary color displays are created by the sun. Slice and rough diamonds, alongside rubies and baguette diamonds become a magnetic mix in this collection.

Imbued with a decidedly feminine energy, our rose gold pearshape Ruby Flip Ring is designed to flow gracefully with the natural movements of your hand. Our Slice Diamond and Mixshape Rosecut Diamond Necklace celebrates the natural beauty of slice diamonds shines with its uniquely enigmatic light. With each delicate movement, light playfully catches our Ruby and Rough Diamond Line Earrings. The rubies and and rough diamonds softly tumble from diamond- encrusted clasps with a uniquely feminine finish.Bold and beautiful, our Slice Diamonds triple drop earrings wrapped in pave diamonds, have an organic and icy sparkle. RIMOWA x CHAOS Collaboration Unveiled RIMOWA is proud to announce its debut collaboration with Chaos, the London-based brand renowned for its coveted accessories. United by their common appreciation for luxurious design and innovative solutions, RIMOWA and Chaos have partnered on a limited-edition line of suitcases and travel accessories that meld RIMOWA’s legacy of German engineering with Chaos’ daring attitude. The glossy polycarbonate grooves of the RIMOWA Essential Cabin have been been splashed by Chaos’ individual style. Featuring a bold graphic in the shape of paint dripping down the suitcase’s exterior, the inventive design is available in two complementary colour options: Saffron Yellow and White, which provides an uplifting pop of colour, and Cactus Green and Black, which offers a more discreet and urban-minded alternative. Both are expertly matched – from the handle and zipper, to the badge and wheel housing – for a coordinated appearance. Each suitcase comes with a cobranded leather luggage tag embossed with a globe that celebrates the collaboration, in addition to three complimentary stickers.

96

A series of Italian-made accessories complete the collection. A luggage harness, crafted from high-quality satin nylon, cleverly streamlines the experience of traveling with carry-on luggage by removing the need for an accompanying handbag or briefcase. Easily secured to your suitcase with anti-slip straps, the harness boasts a clever formation of pockets and compartments that allow fast access to all your travel essentials, from a water bottle to a laptop. While understated in black, the luggage harness displays Chaos’ DNA with subtle design cues, such as the slogan straps and the loose pockets referencing the athleisure look of a bomber jacket. Chaos’ trademark sense of fun was applied to smaller accessories intended to add a personal touch to your RIMOWA suitcase. A range of collectible leather luggage tags are emblazoned with city names, each one sporting a different style that references the colours and cultures of that destination, as well as providing the coordinates of the local RIMOWA store. Three quirky leather and chenille luggage charms – a fried egg, a green apple, and a “chill pill” – add some tongue-in-cheek humour, as do the variety of eye-catching slogan stickers. “Our collaboration with RIMOWA felt like a natural partnership because high design, function, and quality stand at the forefront of both brands,” explain Charlotte Stockdale and Katie Lyall, cofounders of Chaos. “The collection allows you to personalise your travel set and make a statement, but also to travel with ease.” “We’re thrilled to partner with Chaos on a collection that’s infused with their playful personality,” adds Emelie De Vitis, Chief Marketing Officer at RIMOWA. “RIMOWA’s rich legacy has been coupled with Chaos’ cult following to create a memorable collaboration that truly celebrates both brands.” of that destination, as well as providing the coordinates of the local RIMOWA store. Marina Rinaldi - Capsule MRN Tennis MRN, the mini line of Marina Rinaldi dedicated from one season to another to a different sport, pays homage to tennis in SS21. Few sports have influenced the world of fashion like tennis. The immaculate elegance of the players at the start of the 1900s, the sophisticated femininity of the athletes in the 1960s and the sensual determination of modern days female tennis players: in every era, the style paraded on the court was subsequently transformed into ideas for new fashion trends. The collection is principally inspired by the charm of the oldest tournament in the world which, since 1877, has been held on the grass courts in Wimbledon, in the outskirts of London. The silhouettes are welcoming and always enhance the figure's curviness. The skirts are longuette and pleated and could be worn with a pure Wimbledon mood cardigan with waist belt. The trousers are soft and a sophisticated evolution of the after-training tracksuit. The outerwear alternates the mesh parka combined with the hooded raincoat.

Montblanc Meisterstück Around the World in 80 Days

120

An icon of writing culture pays homage to the great literary adventure by French author Jules Verne Montblanc introduces Montblanc Meisterstück Around The World in 80 Days, a new collection that brings to life this fantastical story of world circumnavigation with elegant design elements inspired by the themes of the classic adventure. A bestselling novel in its day, Around the World in Eighty Days tells the story of British gentleman Phileas Fogg’s extraordinary trip around the world in just 80 days, in his fearless attempt to win a bet. Despite the numerous challenges and constraints he faces as a 19th century adventurer, the unflappable Fogg demonstrates passion, determination and a pioneering spirit that enable him to accomplish the unimaginable. The indigo blue and the wave pattern of the editions is inspired by the ocean journey from the Suez Canal to Bombay. The steamboat, the main means of transport for the characters in the first leg of their journey, is laser engraved on the cap of each edition. As a token of the card game during which Fogg makes his wager, the clip is decorated with the ace of spades in black lacquer, while the other card suits are discretely incorporated into the wave pattern on the cap of each edition. The 18 days required to complete the first leg of the trip (two days faster than planned) can be found engraved on the back of the cap top, and the 80 days allotted for the entire journey on the front. The two dates engraved on the handcrafted Au 750 solid gold nib mark the start date of the journey - 2 October - and the date Fogg arrived in Bombay to complete the first stage - 20 October. The hot-air balloon honours Jules Verne’s adventurous spirit and refers to another of his works, Five Weeks in a Balloon, in which his characters used a hot-air balloon to search for the source of the Nile. Symbol of excellence in craftsmanship and design, the Montblanc emblem in resin crowns each writing instrument. www.theciin.com

It celebrates freedom and diversity, and shares stories inspired by everyday life and culture in the Middle East, while still capturing the bold, aspirational and adventurous energy of the MCM brand. www.theciin.com

129

The use of rich hues of pink, green, blue and yellow, intermingled with neutral shades of black and white adds to the versatility of the collection, designed keeping the new generation in mind. The collection highlights Hanan’s vision of bold expression, while still paying homage to her roots, represented through culturally relevant symbols such as the crescent moon; marking the beginning of the month of Ramadan, and the falcon; representing courage, determination and heritage. Each bag tells a story, illustrated on MCM’s iconic visetos print in black and the brand’s classic colorway, cognac. “Art and music are both elements that move me, making this an effortless collaboration with a brand that speaks the same language. This collection celebrates diversity and culture, while empowering the new generation to escalate their creative freedom to their highest potential; there are no rules here, and there is no dress code.” – Hanan "One of the intentions behind our new initiative is of course to collaborate on product with an upcycling idea. But this project is also a dialogue – about the power of creativity, about the important topic of sustainability and how the current crisis has influenced us and our creative process. Hanan Kamal is the first creative talent in the Middle East region joining our Global Creative Platform sharing her energy and immense creativity with us. I love this interaction between creatives around the world and the brand." - Dirk Schönberger, Global Creative Officer, MCM The MCM collection by Hanan Kamal is a regional collaboration that is part of the brand’s Global Creative Platform. GET BEACH BODY READY WITH COLLAGEN SHOT FROM GAIA NATURELLE With the temperature rising and an upcoming long weekend coming in July we all want to hit the beach looking and feeling our best and collagen shot from Gaia Naturelle can help to get our skin, hair and nails and beach body ready. European-based producers of liquid dietary supplements and natural skin care cosmetics, Gaia Naturelle, has launched its range of dietary supplements in the GCC with its health and beauty boosting signature product, Collagen Shot. 136

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, and up to 70% of the protein that makes up our skin is made from Collagen. It is vital for maintenance and structure and is the glue that holds our tissues together. From our mid-twenties, we lose collagen at a rate of around 1%

www.theciin.com

per year and it continues to decline as we grow older. The outer layer of our skin thins and loses elasticity which is why we may notice a difference in our skin with ageing or wrinkles as we age, as well as brittle nails and hair loss. Our lifestyle choices also play a role in reduced collagen levels, with stress, illness, diet and the environment affecting our collagen levels. With ingredients including hydrolyzed fish collagen, Collagen Shot can help boost immunity and improve overall health. With no GMO, gluten, dairy, soy or sugar, it is ideal for almost everyone and is ready to drink. The Collagen Shot is produced in a certified ISO22000 and GMP facility in Europe, following all measures and procedures to ensure that the quality of products is consistent and in line with health regulations and specifications. Collagen Shot is available on www. collagenshotme.com, Amazon and The Entertainer and is just the first in a long line of products that will soon be available in the GCC, from liquid supplements and protein bars to face and body skincare.

Presenting the new Gentleman Givenchy AN ENCOUNTER, AN APPEARANCE... Here he is, distinctly unique, a new type of gentleman both charismatic and seductive. He captivates – fascinates even – with his explosive charm and innate sense of coolness. He’s a leader who, instead of following the crowd, would rather show the way. Especially if it guides him to adventures that promise to awaken all the senses... In 2017, Givenchy created Gentleman Eau de Toilette, a fragrance brimming with contrasts and paradoxes, boldly blending strength and delicateness. Today we present Gentleman Eau de Parfum – a hedonistic essence tailor-made for an enchanting night bird.

137 DISTINGUISHED LINES, MODERN CURVES, SENSUAL VOLUMES… The Gentleman Givenchy bottle is an emblem of authentic coolness. And because this new Eau de Parfum seems to originate from night itself, it has donned an opaque, lacquered black evoking total darkness. A single sliver of light, the bottle’s transparent underside makes the fragrance appear as if suspended in glass, reminding us that dawn is never far away... And since the Eau de Parfum is a rich and eruptive fragrance, its unique black bottle is now immortalised against a backdrop of an explosion of gypsophila rather than a single sprig.

An Ambitious and Thoughtful Vision for Montréal’s Largest Insular Park Montréal, Canada

151

The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau is unveiling its 2020-2030 Conservation, Design and Development Management Plan, the culmination of more than three years of in-depth work and a superb collective intelligence effort. The result is a Plan which provides a projection into the future, a re-thinking of the Parc's overall offer, and an enhancement of Parc users’ experience. The development of the management plan began with an extensive public consultation conducted by the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM), in which more than 6,000 people participated. The vision shared by most of the participants centered around striking a balance between the Parc’s natural and event-related components through developments that highlight its historical features while preserving and enhancing its inestimable natural environment. This strategy strives to return to the notion of a great and active, green and blue urban park that emphasizes places its insular character. June, 2021

152

The proposed plan is aimed at making Parc Jean-Drapeau a widely-known, iconic place and a calling card for the city of Montréal, that is likely to attract local and international visitors, not only because of the diversity of individual and collective experiences offered in conjunction with nature, landscapes, history, culture, and sports but also because of its environmental commitment, as a laboratory for best practices in sustainable development. “Sparked by an undeniable desire to put sociability, citizenship, democracy, durability, ecology, and culture in the forefront, we are hoping that, over the next decade, parc Jean-Drapeau becomes one of the parks which is emblematic of Montréal and one of the most widely known contemporary parks in Canada,’’ said Société du parc Jean-Drapeau director-general Isabelle Bonneau. “Innovating to stand out, conducting an organizational transition, listening to multiple users and offering distinctive experiences: these are the challenges in the coming years to make Sainte-Hélène and Notre-Dame islands a park that is bigger than nature itself.”

Projects and major development initiatives The plan, which extends over 10 years, is an investment for the Montréal community and it will result in being able to offer the population a top-notch public park and infrastructures with concerted building and development initiatives, positioning Montréal as one of the greenest cities in the world. In carrying out the developmental proposals of the Management Plan the Parc enlisted the services of the NIPPAYSAGE and Réal Paul Architectes team to shape this vision of the future. Interest in the development project is centered around respect for heritages, responding to constraints, needs, and current issues, and the creativity of proposals based on the best modern practices in landscape architecture. The result is a park that is more accessible, inclusive, diversified, green, and public. ”Parc Jean-Drapeau is in the heart of a vibrant city known for its creativity, design, and quality of life,” remarked Michel Langevin, Landscape Architect Associate with NIPPAYSAGE. “This spirit of Montréal is conveyed in its approaches and innovative solutions which align to solidify these specific identities and put sustainable development at the core of its initiatives. We are truly honored to be able to contribute to this vision of the future.”

www.theciin.com

The major structural projects and actions proposed by the Plan from now until 2030 include: • The complete redevelopment of Place des Nations, a major icon from Expo 67, into a large, multi-level agora that will become a meeting, experimentation, and learning place, and the enhancement of its access-ways, surroundings, and neighboring shorelines. • The protection, connection, and promotion of the Parc’s natural heritage and areas of ecological interest by increasing the canopy cover by 30% and creating a biodiversity corridor linking the cores of the two islands. • Developing a 15-kilometer riverbank promenade around the islands which will provide outstanding views of downtown Montréal and enable visitors to travel around in a safe and enjoyable manner. • Creating a mobility area that will serve to reduce vehicular traffic in the park and the cluster of parking area surfaces, thereby giving green spaces back to the citizens. • Redeveloping the Cosmos walkway as a public, ecological, pedestrian and cycling link to enjoy a unique mobility and contemplative experience above the water. • Creating a night-time identity and a strong lighting system which will enable visitors to enjoy the Parc, even at night. • Developing signature elevated walkways to make overall accessibility and the co-existence of the various users easier while opening up different sites and offering new viewpoints overlooking the park and its attractions. • The preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration of water areas, notably the canals on Île NotreDame, by making them accessible for practicing water sports. • Restoring the Plaine des jeux into an expansive and open green space, which will become a great place to relax and unwind, while offering a panoramic view of the city and the river. ROLLS-ROYCE ‘BOAT TAIL’ A COUNTERPOINT TO INDUSTRIALISED LUXURY 154

As a House of Luxury, Rolls-Royce imbues its products with meaning. A Rolls-Royce serves as a canvas onto which clients reflect their personal tastes, express ambitions and often, define legacies. The Bespoke treatment of a Rolls-Royce elegantly reflects its status as ‘the best car in the world’ while stylishly expressing the personality of its commissioning client. Ever increasingly, clients appreciate and enjoy the marque’s Bespoke capabilities and Rolls-Royce is called upon, by its clients, to integrate itself into their lives in meaningful ways. The brand and its clients have become progressively closer and the designers, engineers and craftspeople at the Home of Rolls-Royce, a Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence, have developed a unique fluency in interpreting the lifestyles of these remarkable women and men. This evolution of mutual confidence has resulted in ever more ambitious commissions, reaching well beyond the scope of Bespoke competencies and capacity, into the rarefied realm of coachbuilding. To fulfil these extraordinary client commissions Rolls-Royce has reached a decision to return to one of the historical roots of the marque and to initiate a distinct department within the company, Rolls-Royce Coachbuild. Coachbuilding is a highly distilled expression of Rolls-Royce Bespoke and is reserved for those who look to move beyond existing constraints. It is based on a true commission model and represents a collaborative exploration of meaningful luxury, design and culture between the marque and its commissioning client. The results become pivotal moments in time that create a future historical legacy, advancing designs which in turn define an era, extending influence far beyond the original intended purpose of a mere means of transportation.

T

he discipline inherent in Rolls-Royce’s approach to coachbuilding requires elite artistic skills that do not exist elsewhere in the automotive industry. Commissioning clients demand an object that is truly transformative; an object that makes a permanent statement and sets itself apart from anything that has gone before.

In response, the marque must interrogate and deeply understand two worlds. The first is the intimately personal context of the client – their individual life-space, how they celebrate, what and who they surround themselves with, and the experiences that have defined the very best moments in these exceptional people’s lives. The second is the broader cultural context in which a Coachbuild car will exist. Here the marque explores the cultural nuances of the client, movements in architecture, couture, colour palettes, artistic tastes – even hospitality.

www.theciin.com

157

THE DAWN OF A MOVEMENT In 2017, the celebrated Rolls-Royce Sweptail defined the dawn of the contemporary coachbuilding movement. It created a definitive moment that raised the awareness of a new watermark in luxury and automotive possibility, illustrating a new realm of exploitation owing to its hand-built nature. This remarkable product, which was instantly proclaimed as one of the finest intercontinental tourers in history, represented a major recalibration of possibility, and confirmed that the legacy of Rolls-Royce will be defined in collaboration with its clients. Sweptail set a new waterline of potential and ignited a fascination among a rarefied cohort: collectors, patrons of the arts and commissioning clients of now-iconic architecture. A number of these women and men approached Rolls-Royce to discover if they too could collaborate on a unique commission, one that was even more profound – one that provided an elevated sense of curation. The marque agreed, signalling the genesis of a permanent contemporary Coachbuild department at the Home of Rolls-Royce. Within this group, it emerged that three potential patrons shared a deep appreciation of contemporary nautical design. J-Class yachts were often referenced as points of inspiration, both for their purity of form and their requirement for hand craftsmanship at the highest level to will them into existence. This client-led creative expression coincided with a long-held ambition of the design team at Rolls-Royce to create a contemporary expression of the Boat Tail typology, where coachbuilders would graft the hull forms of sailing boats onto the rolling chassis of a Rolls-Royce. When the idea of this design direction was proposed, the three patrons were unequivocal in their approval. And all three shared a single demand: “Show me something that I have never seen before.” In consultation with the clients concerned, an agreement was reached whereby three cars would share a common body, but each would then be individually, highly personalised, reflecting the confluence between vision, capability and ambition of the marque and each of the individual commissioning patrons. Royalty, politicians, artists, tycoons, film stars... At the tip of Cap d’Antibes on France's Côte d’Azur, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc has welcomed many celebrities from all over the world. The former Villa Soleil was built in 1870 to attract writers in search of inspiration. That plan was soon abandoned, and the villa became a superbly luxurious hotel rewarded in summer 2016 with official ‘Palace’ status. Wake up to a breakfast buffet in the seafront Grill or à la carte in the elegant Bellini dining room. Even at the buffet, waiters fall over themselves to carry your plates piled cheeses, omelettes, Nutella pancakes and a vast array of traditional French pastries as well as balanced and healthy options.

Designed by Melvin Villarroel and with romantic Moorish references to an Arab citadel, The RitzCarlton, Abama includes seven swimming pools, access to a secluded beach, waterfalls and exuberant subtropical vegetation, composed of 90,000 trees with 300 different species of palms and shrubs.

Located in Guía de Isora, a peaceful gem of a destination on the South West coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, this exclusive five-star resort exists in a stunning ‘finca’ setting of natural beauty, surrounded by volcanic landscapes and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The sprawling hotel’s distinctive Moorish pink style fits well with the arid coastline, yet the resort is set in huge swathes of lush garden, so there’s also plenty of tropical foliage around to admire, from palms and banana leafs to cacti and colourful flowers. The vast marble lobby, with bar to the side, has a glass roof and leads on to an attractive terrace (a great sundowner spot) looking through an arch at the centre of the main hotel, across a large carp pond and swimming pool and out to sea.

The luxury resort has developed its ‘villa club’ concept. When checking-in, contactless if preferred, guests will be assigned a sea or garden room or suite in a standalone, twofloor, terracotta hued ‘villa’ building –each with its own pool for exclusive use by the villa’s limited number of residents. Lounging poolside in the year-round Tenerife sun is made all the more enjoyable with complimentary drinks, canapés, smoothies and juices served as part of the villa club package. There are adult-only villas and dedicated family villas, so guests can escape and relax in a style that suits them best. Comprised of connecting double or triple rooms, families and groups of all sizes can be luxuriously accommodated, and single bedroom suites are also on offer for the solo traveller. The adult-only villas, called Tagor–taken from the native Canary Guanche language, and meaning leader gatherings– additionally benefit from their own private outdoor gym and a dedicated chip & putt area. The family-only villas, named Palmeras, after the 25,000 palm trees that fill the estate, are conveniently located for the outdoor playground and closest to the largest Ritz Kids club in Europe. Each villa comes with a dedicated team of ambassadors to look after all guest needs. All Villa Club reservations include a la carte breakfast at the spectacular clifftop El Mirador Restaurant, and El Mirador Lounge access with complimentary aperitifs daily at sunset. Each reservation will receive two complimentary wellness passes for the spa, and a wellness welcome amenity. www.theciin.com

A CULINARY DESTINATION A bastion of culinary excellence, The Ritz-Carlton, Abama’s gourmet offering is world-renowned. A choice of venues combine casual to formal dining spaces, ensuring a style of gastronomy to suit all tastes, from sun-drenched beach lunches, pool treats to exceptional tasting menus at dusk. El Mirador has the best views in the house, so arrive in time for a sundowner if you can and bag a table outside to feat on sharing paellas resplendent with king prawns, langoustine, mussels and clams. Our favourite. Born from 40 years of gastronomic excellence, Txoko represents a triumph of culinary creativity from world-renowned chef Martín Berasategui. Characterized by his trademark stamps of inventiveness, profound understanding of flavour and deep respect for ingredients, the restaurant (with Erlantz Gorostiza at the helm) offers a contemporary dining experience inspired by the roots of traditional Basque cuisine. However, this is the first-year that guests will be able to savour dishes from all resort restaurants from the comfort of their own suite thanks to an increased inroom dining offer, available 24/7. In addition to the numerous local Canarian and international flavours that leave guests spoilt for choice, a new informal Beach Club Restaurant, in the typical Spanish chiringuito style, will serve lunch and offer beach service–and is the perfect early evening retreat to soak up the island beauty and expansive Atlantic views. Keeping active has always been an integral part of The Ritz-Carlton, Abama and in addition to the fully equipped, on-site fitness centre, the setting on the South West coast of Tenerife provides ample opportunity for guests take part in a wide variety of sports. The cycling experiences have been endorsed with a Cycling Friendly® gold certificate of approval and the hotel’s location, close to Mount Teide also allows guests to go trekking and canyoning with running route maps provided for active explorers.
