based Mission recently launched a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to help get hot meals and holiday food packages to homeless, underhoused, marginalized and struggling families, youth and seniors and ensure kids will have gifts to open on
Christmas morning. “It’s a little more than we usually raise this time of year because the demand in our community is higher than we usually see,” said YSM president and CEO Angie Draskovic. “This time of year, many people are

Staff and teachers at Beverley Public School have long known what it means to teach and care for children with developmental or physical disabilities. With the launch of a new book, the school is looking to share those insights with a wider audience. The book, titled Beverley: The Stories and Artwork of an Exceptional School, serves as a celebration of those who attend the school, their parents, teachers and caregivers. “We started using iPads in the classroom to help give some of our students a voice and one of our teachers said ‘wouldn’t it be powerful if we could share this with other people?’” said Beverley P.S. Principal Alana Grossman. “We got stories from the students’ families and shared them all.” The book offers a unique look into the lives of children with a wide range of disabilities to foster a broader understanding among those who often do not understand their behaviour. “Our goal is for people to have a better understanding of children, for instance, with autism,” Grossman said. “People might see a child with autism (acting out) and not know what’s happening.
