JUSTIN SKINNER jskinner@insidetoronto.com Buoyed by the “red wave” of support that swept the nation, Liberal Adam Vaughan easily defeated New Democrat Olivia Chow to win the election Monday in the newly formed riding of Spadina-Fort York. Despite being the incumbent, Vaughan was widely seen as the underdog in the race, with many expecting Chow to return to federal politics on the back of three decades of public service, including a stint as MP of Trinity-Spadina from 2006 to 2014. Vaughan credited grassroots support through the riding for leading him to victory. “This campaign starts in Alexandra Park. This campaign starts in a community that needs the help of this city and this country,” Vaughan told his supporters at his campaign party at the Rivoli, about the inner-city neighbourhood. “But...this country needs Alex Park.
