OFF TO A FUNERAL: Zombie Pee-wee Herman, Paul Huggy, attends the ‘funeral’ held Saturday afternoon at the Royal Theatre for the Toronto Zombie Walk. Lack of funding has forced the organizers to end production of the formerly annual event. For more photos from the event, see page 12.

Given the amount of development proposed around Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, there is little surprise there have been three major studies done on the area. With concerns over built form, growth in the area and infrastructure, residents in and around the area have plenty to keep track of, and the fact that there are three studies – Eglinton Connects, the YongeEglinton Centre Review and Midtown in Focus (which was approved at council in June) – can make it tricky for those residents to ensure they have the latest and most accurate information.

Cabbagetown Festival kicks off with film fest JUSTIN SKINNER jskinner@insidetoronto.com The streets of Cabbagetown will once again host the city with the return of the annual Cabbagetown Festival. The annual event, which brings tens of thousands of people into the downtown community, is looking to be bigger and better than ever thanks to a new set of additions to its

already-packed roster of events and attractions. While the main festival itself lasts only two days – Sept. 12 and 13 – a series of affiliated events ensure there’s something going on in the community to appeal to every taste. The celebrations begin Wednesday, Sept. 9, when the Cabbagetown Short Film and Video Festival settles into its new home.

“It’s been getting more and more successful, so it’s gone into a larger venue – Daniels Spectrum,” said StephenThomas Maciejowski of the Cabbagetown BIA, the organization that heads up the Cabbagetown Festival each year. “It’s good to see them expand because that means they can bring film to a larger audience.” On Friday, Sept. 11, things

will heat up even more with the Cabbagetown Arts and Crafts sale taking over Riverdale Park and the Cabbagetown Theatre Company staging familyfriendly performances in the Necropolis on Winchester Street. Both the Arts and Crafts sale and the performances will run through the weekend. Come Saturday, Sept. 12, things will get into full swing, >>>THREE, page 10

LINKS TO INFO To help facilitate this, the City of Toronto has created a special web portal to keep residents up to date. The site offers links to the studies, news on meetings and other must-know dates, a development review including a map of proposed applications in the area, contacts at the city and other crucial information for those looking to keep informed and make their voices heard.
