Second public meeting slated for downtown Walmart bid JUSTIN SKINNER jskinner@insidetoronto.com With a second public meeting slated for July to debate the controversial RioCan proposal for 410-446 Bathurst Street, the developers are hopeful the public is changing its tune toward the application. The plan calls for a threestorey retail centre, including a Walmart, on the site, a fact that attracted a great deal of ire from many in and around the area. More than 200 people attended a public meeting in early June to learn more about – and in many cases speak out against – the plan. The meeting was so well-attended, a second public meeting was promised for those who could not make it into the first public forum. That second meeting is slated to take place Tuesday, July 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Toronto Council Chambers. According to RioCan senior vice president of planning and development Jordan Robins, many of the concerns raised were due to public misconceptions. “There’s a misconception that the development was in Kensington Market,” he said. “It’s actually on the Bathurst Street corridor north of Dundas in an area that needs improvement and is not well-served >>>DEVELOPER, page 5
