HELLO

HarbourKIDS Thanksgiving festival comes to Harbourfront on Monday JUSTIN SKINNER jskinner@insidetoronto.com Kids will get a chance to write their own love letters to Toronto – all in 140 characters or less – as part of the HarbourKIDS Thanksgiving festival. The free event will offer live music, animated shorts from the National Film Board, arts and crafts and plenty of interactive activities for families. One of the new features at the event is Dear Toronto, part of the Dear City Canada project, in which people are encouraged to write tweets on Twitter outlining

why they love their city. “I saw an article about the Dear City Canada project and it sounded really neat,” said Katherine Sanders, head of programming for HarbourKIDS. “I thought it would be great to create a mini kids’ version for our festival.” Fo r t u n a t e l y, Pa t t i s o n

Onestop, the group behind Dear City Canada, was looking for something to fill the screens with on TTC platforms the week after the Thanksgiving festival. “The kids might get to see their name in lights on the subway, which would be a thrill,” Sanders said. “We’ll also have our Twitter feed up on a screen at Harbourfront Centre, so they can see their love letters there, too.” The HarbourKIDS Thanksgiving festival will feature plenty of other draws as >>>FREE, page 6

Delilah attended Christ Church Deer Park Sunday afternoon for the church’s blessing of the animals service. The annual service takes place near the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi and celebrates the diversity of God’s creations. See page 16 for more photos.

How will the Eglinton Crosstown LRT service improve community life? That’s the topic of an upcoming panel discussion presented by The City Centre Mirror in partnership with the Toronto Public Library. Amid all the debate about our transit system, one project is actually being built. In seven years the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will run from Black Creek Drive in the west to Kennedy Station in the east. Join us for a discussion on how the big dig on Eglinton Avenue can become a catalyst

for community life. Tonight’s session, featuring a panel and discussion on how to capitalize on the opportunity, is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Northern District library at 40 Orchard View Blvd. “This is not a session about the bones of what’s being built... above ground, below ground, or the cost of the project,” said City Centre Mirror Editor-in-chief Peter Haggert.“This is not an official city meeting, this is a chance for residents to explore how enhanced transportation can help build a strong community.

“We’d like to explore just how this transportation system can increase the health and vibrancy of our community – but we need your input. We do hope you attend.” The ideas expressed at this meeting will form the basis of future coverage in the newspaper and will spark further exploration of how community life can benefit. A similar session will be held at Mount Dennis Public Library, Oct. 17.
