Cabbagetown author Eric Murphy’s first book has earned plenty of accolades, but few are more meaningful than having it used to boost literacy at Regent Park schools. through a partnership with the Daniels Corporation and the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation. Murphy was thrilled to have had his debut novel selected for the program. ‘DIDN’T HURT’ “It didn’t hurt that I was a local author, I’m sure, but the people at Daniels read the book and really liked it,” he said. “I definitely didn’t target Regent Park and didn’t think anything like this would happen. Writing came naturally to the actor and video producer. The Phantom’s Gold was originally written as a screenplay which >>>REGENT, page 8

For about two years, the city and residents’ associations tried to work out a settlement with the developers, who are working together hoping to build two residential buildings at Yonge Street and Helendale Avenue. However, the developers, who could not be reached for comment, have appealed to the OMB because they accuse council of failing to make a decision in a timely manner as set out in the Planning Act. Now, it’s time for the city to fight back, Stintz said. The city needs to “go to the OMB with everything we have in our arsenal to fight this application. Because, once again, we came to the table with a view that we would find a compromise and we were willing,” Stintz said at the May 13 meeting of North York community council. “We never fought the developer every step of the way. In fact, we gave them every single opportunity to come with something that might make sense but >>>HIGH, pg. 13
