CONTROL YOUR ELBOWS FOR A BETTER PUTT

When lining up for a putt, your positioning with the putter is crucial. Some golfers forget that the amount of bend in your elbows can significantly influence your putting performance as well.

1. Here, you can see that the elbows are bent too much at address. This will lead to poor strikes with the putter

2. This golfer is showing too little elbow bend. Rigid elbows will result in distance control issues

3. This golfer demonstrates the ideal amount of elbow bend. Being attentive to your elbow positioning will significantly enhance your chances of sinking more putts, and elevate your short game

RACQUETS TIP

THIRD SHOT DROP VS. THIRD SHOT DRIVE – WHEN TO CHOOSE EACH

In pickleball, the third shot drop has long been taught as the go-to move: a soft shot aimed at the kitchen to neutralize the point and set you up at the net. But as the game evolves, so does strategy. A new generation of players recognizes that both third shot drops and drives can be effective, with drives becoming increasingly common

Why the Change?

Pickleball pros, especially those from tennis, have introduced a faster, more aggressive style of play. As the game speeds up, relying solely on the third shot drop isn’t enough to stay competitive. The third shot drive is now a key tool for many players, essential for high-level play

When to Choose the Third Shot Drive:

1. Against Shallow Returns

A short return gives you the advantage of rushing in with power. The closer distance means less reaction time for your opponent, allowing you to hit a fast shot and potentially end the point quickly.

2. When Opponents Are Backed Up:

If your opponents aren’t at the kitchen line and are still at the baseline or mid-court, it’s a great opportunity to drive the ball and force them into a defensive position.

When to Choose the Third Shot Drop:

1. Against Deep, Fast Returns

If your opponent returns deep and with pace, avoid the drive A drop shot is a safer choice to neutralize the point and give you time to advance.

2. When Opponents Are at the Net:

If both opponents are at the kitchen line, a drop shot is typically the best option. It forces them to hit up, giving you a chance to regain control and move to the net

To be truly successful at pickleball these days, you need to master both types of third shots –the drop and the drive Understanding when to use each one is what separates the top players from the rest!
