2024 Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament

In November, as the temperatures cool, we will be transitioning our beloved Gelato Saturday to "Souper Saturday." Our first Souper Saturday event will take place on November 2.

Our 15th Annual Member Appreciation Weekend is set to unfold from November 8th to 10th This weekend promises a delightfully array of activities, including Member Mixers with live entertainment, exhilarating tennis and pickleball play with former Alumni and Tennis Professionals and ending with a golf scramble showdown at the Conservatory We hope to see many members enjoying some or all of these events.

Team Sargent finished in 12th place (-15) and Team Hauer finished 27th place (-6) out of 55 teams. Full results can be found on Golf Genius under TroonCup24. Eric Sargent finished in 7th place overall among the professionals which included an outstanding opening round of 5 under par 67. We want to thank both of our Hammock Beach Teams for participating in this event!

Hammock Beach recently competed in the annual Troon Cup which took place at the PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida this October 15 – 17, 2024 Hammock Beach was able to host two teams this year consisting of Team Number One with Head Golf Pro Eric Sargent, and members Tommy Stricklin, Jeff Jones and Neil Rosenblit and Team Number Two with myself, Brad Hauer and members Frank Sugrue, Chris DeSantis, and Alex Bollman

WHEN POACHING, REMEMBER TO MOVE FORWARD AND ON A

DIAGONAL

Poaching is a vital skill for becoming an effective net player in doubles. To enhance your volleys and successfully conclude points, it's essential to move diagonally when poaching. Often, players identify poaching opportunities too late, resulting in a lateral movement across the court that leads to weak volleys or errors.

In the first set of images, I have crossed the court by moving laterally. This position leaves me stretched and unable to deliver a penetrating shot If you frequently find yourself in such situations, it’s advisable to refrain from forcing a poach and allow your partner to handle the incoming ball

In the second group of photos, I have proactively anticipated the poaching opportunity, moving forward and diagonally. This approach enables me to leverage my momentum for a more aggressive volley It is acceptable to position yourself a half step further back in the box, provided you can capitalize on more volleys as you advance toward the net.

In summary, recognize poaching opportunities and remember to move diagonally to enhance the quality of your volleys!

MIKAEL PERNFORS

A cornerstone of our member events for over a decade, Mikael enjoyed an illustrious 11-year career on the pro tour, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the 1986 French Open. Prior to his professional journey, he was a standout at the University of Georgia, securing back-toback NCAA titles in 1984 and 1985.

TIM WILKISON

A North Carolina native, Tim competed on the pro tour for 14 years, achieving a career-high singles ranking of #23 and doubles ranking of #21 He is renowned for his remarkable diving volleys on the grass courts of Wimbledon, which earned him the nickname "Dr Dirt "

EKATERINA LUKOMSKAYA

"Kate" served as the Head Tennis Professional at Hammock Beach from 2015 to 2019 A standout at the University of Arkansas, she also competed in WTA Future events, leaving a lasting impact at the Club.

ADAM KEWORK

The first Head Tennis Professional at Hammock Beach in 2006, Adam was an All-American in both singles and doubles throughout his college career and was inducted into the UNF Hall of Fame in 2017 He is recognized as an Elite Professional by the USPTA
