Matt Kuchar on the Ocean Course | September 17, 2024
We are thrilled to share that we have recently acquired brand new fleets of golf carts for both of our golf courses. Thanks to the assistance of Troon, we were able to end our lease term earlier than expected. These stateof-the-art golf carts are powered by lithium batteries and have been welcomed by both our members and staff.
This month, you will receive the Troon Member Satisfaction Survey from Players 1st, a Customer Experience Management Platform. We highly encourage all members to take a few minutes to complete the survey and provide us with your feedback, both positive and constructive, on all areas of the Club that you utilize
Don't forget to mark your calendars for the 15th Annual Member Appreciation Weekend on November 8-10. We have an exciting lineup of holiday sale incentives in our Golf Shops and Breezes Boutique, Member Mixers featuring the fabulous Faze Band, Tennis and Pickleball clinics with former Alumni pros and touring pros, as well as a fun Golf Scramble and reception to follow.
We were excited to host golf legend Matt Kuchar who shared his incredible journey with members and kids from the First Tee - North Florida at the Ocean Course Driving Range last month! From 18 professional wins to a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics, his insights and stories were truly inspiring. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable afternoon this past Tuesday!
As we approach the end of the year, the Advisory Board of Governors (ABOG), is seeking to fill five (5) vacancies that will end December 31, 2024
The ABOG has established Bylaws which include the Standing Committees of: Golf, Sports & Leisure and Member Experience. These Standing Committees will also be seeking to fill a few vacancies that end December 31, 2024.

THE 3 VOLLEYS: BLOCK, PUNCH, SWING
by Gene Paul Lascano, Director of Racquets
The volley is often regarded as one of the more straightforward shots in tennis, yet it can also be deceptively challenging. The difficulty lies in selecting the appropriate type of volley for the given situation. To simplify things, remember that volleys generally fall into three categories: the block, the punch, and the swing. The key difference between these volley types is the length of your backswing, which is primarily dictated by the speed of the approaching ball.
For instance, when the ball approaches at a high speed, it is most effective to use the momentum of the ball and execute a block volley This is typically a reflexive shot requiring minimal racquet movement (photo 1) In many cases, there may not be sufficient time to step forward while performing a block volley.
When the incoming shot is of moderate speed, a punch volley is more appropriate. In this case, you can lengthen your backswing slightly by rotating your shoulders (photo 2). Many recreational players make the common mistake of pulling their arms back, rather than simply turning their shoulders to extend the backswing
If the ball is slow and higher, you have more time to rotate your shoulders and bring the racquet back slightly farther (photo 3). This enables you to move the racquet forward with more force, creating a more offensive volley. A variation of this is the “swinging volley”, which involves a full groundstroke motion before the ball hits the ground. When next positioned at the net, focus on adjusting the length of your backswing according to the speed of the incoming ball. This will enable you to select the appropriate volley whether it be the block, punch, or swing!

Guest Speakers: Tracy Farmer and Rob Errett, Community Paramedics, Flagler County Fire Rescue will teach us Hands-only CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, along with a demonstration on the use of an AED.
Learn Hands-only CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is CPR without rescue breaths which is simple to learn and easy to remember, especially outside medical settings It increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs.
Watch an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) demonstration - AEDs are used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm
The Heimlich maneuver, or abdominal thrusts, is a first-aid method for choking that can be used on adults and children.

Parrots and other exotic pet birds present unique challenges when it comes to animal welfare. For many birds, the loss of an owner presents a grim future The stress of traumatic situations often results in plucking, biting and other negative behaviors that can make a bird unappealing and unwanted. The majority of animal shelters do not accept or are not equipped to handle birds and re-homing a parrot becomes significantly more difficult
