IS IT TIME TO DISCOVER A NEW YOU IN 2022?
WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING for a complete wellness overhaul or just want to pamper yourself a little after the challenges of the pandemic, a new year is the perfect time to hit the reset button on your health and wellbeing.
One of the best places to start is with what you are putting into your body.
Leading dietitian and Mayver’s ambassador, Susie Burrell, advises us to rethink our approach to popular ‘New Year Resolution’ diets and instead take up long-term strategies towards healthier lifestyles.
“Oftentimes, the New Year, New Me approach doesn’t work because it’s seasonal,” Susie says.
“It lasts for that short period when you’re motivated to lose weight and feel good for the start of the year.
“If you’re lucky, a New Year’s health kick might last a few weeks or months,” she says.
Susie suggests a more concerted effort towards adopting better long-term lifestyle habits, and a healthier, more integrated approach towards food, will prove more successful.
Susie’s sustainable lifestyle diet tips for 2022 are: • Avoid short term diets and calorie restrictive diets. • Choose nutritionally balanced meals (protein, fruits/veggies and carbohydrates). • Experiment with new recipes and ingredients. • Balance your intake throughout the day e.g. smaller portions at dinner if you’re going out for lunch. • Think of food as your body’s fuel for optimising health.
Once we have adopted a healthier lifestyle, taking care of any underlying medical issues is also important.
Maybe it’s time to schedule that eye test, book in for a skin check, arrange a dental appointment or have your feet and posture assessed.
If you are feeling a little sluggish, improving your gut health or balancing your hormones might help.
These are all simple acts that can have a positive impact on our long-term health.
Of course, it doesn’t matter how well we feel or how healthy we are, a relaxing beauty treatment is always welcome (did somebody say spa day?).
Anything from a new hairstyle or skin treatment to a remedial massage and rejuvenating facial will leave you refreshed and ready to take on whatever 2022 brings.
