Auckland
Sydney offers a multitude of sights. There’s the famous Opera House and distinctive Harbour Bridge of course. But this city has much more besides! You can travel back in time with a visit to Sydney’s oldest center – The Rocks. Take a city tour to take in Sydney Tower, Darling Harbour and Chinatown. Bask on Bondi Beach for a dose of sun, sea and sand. Or travel a little further afield for a glimpse of the Aussie wildlife and views of the Blue Mountains. This vibrant city has it all!
Make sure you’re out on deck throughout the transit, as it is one of the world’s most fascinating maritime experiences, creating the bizarre impression that you are sailing right through the dry heart of the desert. The present, 101-mile-long Canal took 15 years to build, was completed in 1869 and shaved a mere 7,000 miles off the journey from England to India. It is the second to cross the Isthmus of Suez – the first was constructed in the 5th century BC and was in use until the 8th century.
Virtually surrounded by water, Auckland is known as ‘The City of Sails’ with good reason. Opt to see the city from above with a visit to its Sky Tower, complete with a revolving restaurant! Sail on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour for a taste of its yachting culture. Or head for the natural beauty of Rotorua. A different world completely, here you will find boiling mud pools, spouting geysers and hot springs. A highlight of New Zealand not to be missed!
99-NIGHT WORLD CRUISE 2018
Suez Canal - transit
From the moment you sail beneath the majestic Golden Gate Bridge until the instant you leave, you will be charmed and beguiled by easy-going San Francisco. In a single day you can climb the world’s most crooked street, confront the inescapable realities of Alcatraz, explore bustling Chinatown, ride a clanking cable-car and try sourdough bread and soft shell crabs on Fisherman’s Wharf. For something different, Sausalito is an arty Bohemian town across the bay, while at Muir Woods, you’ll crick your neck as you gaze up at the immense redwoods.

Overlooking the Strait of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego – the most southerly point of land before you reach Antarctica. Kiss the toe of the Indian on the Magellan monument in Playa del Armas and local legend says you’ll return to this spectacular place. Head to Otway Bay for a visit to a penguin colony, or take a trip of lifetime flightseeing over the Antarctic Peninsula.
From Valparaiso, discover Santiago with its fascinating blend of old colonial buildings and bustling new expansion. The people are welcoming, the parks are beautiful and there are plenty of cafes and bars where you can sample the fine Chilean wines or tasty ‘empanada’. Travel up to the summit of the San Cristobal Hill where on a clear day, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the city and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes.
With over 365 beaches, there is a slice of white sand heaven for every day of the year - even a leap year - on the idyllic Caribbean holiday island Antigua, which played host to Admiral Horatio Nelson’s fleet in the late 1700’s. Nelson’s Dockyard now bustles with crew and passengers from yachts and cruise ships sailing these waters for pleasure rather than for King and Country.
65-NIGHT SOUTH AMERICA & CARIBBEAN 2018
Santiago (from Valparaiso)
The local Cariocas are carefree and exuberant people, spending their days along the sands of Copacabana, Ipanema or any of a dozen less famous but equally fantastic beaches and their nights in one of the countless samba bars. For an unforgettable view of the splendour of Rio de Janeiro, take the cable car to stand at the feet of Christ atop lofty Corcovado and witness Sugar Loaf Mountain.

The largest of the Portuguese islands in the Madeiran archipelago, Madeira offers a wealth of sites of historical interest, marvellous fish cuisine and, of course, its own famous Madeira wine. Unusually, Madeira has no sandy beaches, but it does offer the visitors wonderful walks, not only through its towns, but through its mountains and hills.
What choice awaits you today in Curacao? Will you opt for snorkelling and swimming? Or perhaps a visit to Hato Caves with their crystalline pools and massive stalactites? Sample delicious Curacao liqueur in the very place where it has been distilled for more than a century. For a taste of Curacao’s Dutch roots, explore the narrow streets of Willemstad. Lined with typical gabled houses painted in vibrant colours, it is one of the Caribbean’s loveliest ports.
Roatan is one of the three beautiful Bay islands located off the north coast of Honduras. Set on a coral reef and beholding scenic reserves, botanical gardens and some of the finest beaches in Latin America and the Caribbean, the eco-tourism sector here is blossoming.
Nestled on South Carolina’s Atlantic coast, the colonial port of Charleston is the oldest city in the state and claims to be one of America’s loveliest. Originally an important seaport and major slave trading centre, today the cobblestone streets of Charleston’s large downtown district are lined with tall, narrow houses flaunting ornate iron balconies, wooden shutters and shaded porches - timeless features of southern architecture.

It’s no wonder that watching the Northern Lights consistently tops the travel experts’ bucket lists. It’s a special experience and one that you really do have to be in the right place for, at the right time! The lights can appear all of a sudden as an arc forms across the sky, and if you’re lucky enough to be below an arc then you’ll likely see a more dramatic performance as you watch the lights ‘dance’ above you. The experience is still as wonderful watching lights in the distance, in fact you’ll have a broader view of the entire show! This incredible sight is mainly seen through the winter in Polar regions, but can be seen as far south as Scotand. You may ask when the best time is to see the lights but the easiest answer is “when it’s dark!”, and of course we have the most hours of darkness in the winter. If you want to record your experience then we recommend you invest in a quality camera, but make sure you don’t spend all night behind the lens... and enjoy the moment for yourself. Stavanger
A small, friendly town with shops and markets, Andalsnes is also close to the famous Trollstigen road. This leads through pretty villages, past scenic fjords and majestic mountain peaks and across the stone bridge over the cascading Stigfossen waterfall to the Trollvegen (Troll Wall) which - at nearly 6,000 feet - is the highest vertical drop in northern Europe.
Tromsø is delightfully situated on the forest-covered island of Troms and is ‘The Gateway to the Arctic’. Here you’ll find a charming blend of old and new, where wooden houses sit alongside modern architecture. Ascend to the top of Mount Storsteinen to enjoy a birds-eye-view of the city and its surroundings, learn about arctic life through the ages in Tromso Museum and admire the church - also known as the ‘Arctic Cathedral’
Situated in the Land of the Midnight Sun, Alta is home to the world’s first Northern Light observatory was built here, earning Alta the title, ‘ The Town of the Northern Lights’, so you could be no better placed to see this spectacular natural phenomenon if luck is on your side. Other sights of interest include the rock carvings at Hjemmeluft – the first of which was discovered just 60 years ago. The site is now UNESCO protected due to its significance and size and comprises carvings and paintings made between 1800 to 6200 years ago. A visit to Stavanger is like a step back in time, with its rich landscape, enchanting fjords and wonderful mixture of old against new. Littered with 19-century buildings, its beautiful old quarter is the perfect place to transport yourself back in time to the historic days of prosperity. Situated in the heart of the city is Stavanger’s 12th century cathedral, the only church to have retained all its original features since its construction in the Middle Ages. Discover Pulpit Rock, hanging 1,800 feet above the Lysefjord below when you step out to admire the views, you’ll feel on top of the world.
