A late change to the race format from a 15 lap handicap to a combined B&C grade scratch race caught a few riders off guard however with 40 riders from the 50+ starters finishing the race it turned out to be highly competitive and thrilling event. The stronger B grade riders were obviously intent on setting the pace but with relatively benign conditions, save for the headwind, the majority of the field hung in there, most notably NWSIS Womens rider Emma Coral Roberts who toughed it to finish comfortably in the bunch. No threatening breaks occurred although Easts rider Shaun Falzarano gave it a red hot go on the bell lap only to be quickly caught by the bunch. The Cridland family have been around Heffron Park since it was first created and it was perhaps fitting that Jonno Cridland outsprinted the field to be crowned 2017 Anthony Spurgeon (Snr) Memorial winner. The minor placings were hotly contested with local strongman Maarten Hoesboer just edging a very fast finishing Adam McCoy for 3rd. In the race for C grade honours Greg Rule proved heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s well and truly on the comeback trail with 11th and 1 st C grade rider home
