JACK BENNETT NABS IT ON
THE LINE FROM PHIL LUCAS
In a finish equal to the excitement and drama of Sunday’s
Australian Championship sprint Jack Bennett caught ZCC team mate Phil Lucas on the line with a desperate throw
on the duckboard to clinch Rd 3 of the Sydney City Skoda Summer Series.
While the crowd where hoping Lucas’s last lap effort would pay off, the final few metres in the headwind
proved too far as Bennett roared past him on the line to claim win number 2 in the Series placing him 9 points clear in the Series.
Daniel Gandy was still in the mix for 3rd and remains a
real contender for the Series. Jonno Cridland finished 4th
and Paul Rowney backed up last weeks top 5 with another strong finish.
A great nights racing in the relatively easy SE wind, which enabled 90% of the field to finish in fast conditions with impressive rides across all grades.
Proving their strong performances last week weren’t a
fluke, Eline Smit and Hattie Lowden impressed again with
2nd and 3rd in C grade. Justin Diddams won C grade with a very strong 11th place overall.
Smit now wears the C grade leaders jersey for a second week while Lowden holds onto her women’s leaders jersey.
Chris Simpson also proved his B grade win the previous week was no fuke by claiming another with this time in front of Nic Coster and Chris Visvis. The win now outs Simpson in the B grade leader’s jersey
