STEPHEN CUFF
STEALS A WIN FROM LOCALS
Round 4 of the Sydney City Skoda Series was all about taking chances and Stephen Cuff took his on the last
lap when he snuck away on the last lap to win solo. Cuff maybe a stranger to Tuesday Night Heffron but he is no
stranger to tight criterium courses after claiming the 2018 Australian Junior Criterium Title in Ballarat.
Jack Bennett strengthened his 2021 Series aspirations by
winning the bunch sprint for second and now sits 12 points clear on the leader board. Finlay Moutter claimed his first
Heffron podium with an impressive 3rd capping off a great night for the Avantias Pro Racing team.
The biggest chance taken on the night was the decision to push ahead with the race amidst swirling showers in the
area all afternoon with none of them miraculously falling on the circuit till after the race. Despite the weather threat a
strong field of 100 riders along with the usual Heffron tifosi witnessed another thrilling nights racing.
In a similar pattern to previous weeks with the SE wind all bunches remained largely intact until the race came
together in an exciting final 2 laps to go frenzy. After Cuff stole his winning march it was a race for points and line honours in the other jersey competitions with Raulands
rider Luke Rope making no mistake about the B grade win. Hot on his wheel was B grade leader Chris Simpson who
increased his lead in the B grade Series while in 3rd place
was his Cheeky Racing team mate Nick Coster with another strong ride.
Justin Diddams managed to back up his C grade win
from last week but in form Eline Smit did enough to hold
on to the C grade leaders jersey with another impressive ride with 2nd, while Jon Pyne notched another place for Cheeky with 3rd place.
