WEEK TWO • 16 OCTOBER 2018

Sydney’s wet intro to summer backed off for the 2nd

Tuesday in a row to allow week 2 of the Heffron Park

summer season to be run on a perfect evening for racing.

Freshening NE winds, but only at 30 kph and a field of over 110 riders made for another thrilling evening of crit racing

on Sydney’s most challenging circuit which everyone either loves or hates.

One thing that D’Arcy Ellerm-Norton generally doesn’t love is an all up sprint but he unleashed an incredible power

sprint to convincingly win week 2, relegating race favourite Tristan Ward to second with Nash Kent in his comeback race to Heffron getting 3rd. Ellerm-Norton’s usual

strategy is the ‘softening up’ approach to racing at Heffron – a few massive turns throughout the race, followed by an

attack in the gutter on the bell lap, so last nights win against a very good field was all the more impressive.

Increased numbers across all grades made for solid racing

RESULTS 1 D’Arcy Ellerm-Norton (Rapha) 2 Tristan Ward (Sutherland) 3 Nash Kent (Parklife) 4 Alex Nazarewicz (Manly) 5 Jack Bennett (Randwick) B Grade 1 Chris Parsons (Randwick) 2 Simon L HILIER (Peleton) 3 James Everett (Parklife) C Grade 1 David WATKINSON (Manly) 2 Daniel Iannazzo (Easts) 3 Jamie DUNN (Manly)

from the gun with B grade getting racing underway. Despite a further 20sec handicap this week, B1 still managed to

close the gap to B grade after 7 laps before rounding up C grade with 5 laps to go. That freedom was relatively short lived as A grade ripped through the 70 strong field a lap

later. The attrition at the back of the bunch then started with only 40 riders in the mix on the lap.

After the top 3, Alex Nazawericz and Jack Bennet rounded out the top 5. Chris Parsons has had an impressive rise through the Heffron ranks and backed up his Saturday

results with a convincing win in B grade which was also a

top 10 finish. And just to prove these still plenty of life left in some of the more ‘senior’ riders on a Tuesday night Dave

Watkinson showed Danny Iannazo a clean pair of heals to win C grade

Great to see a solid turnout of female riders in both B and C

grades with Georgia Whitehouse claiming 1st woman home.

THE KING of HE ANTHONY SPURGEON

Call him washed up, call him a retiree, just don’t ever

forget that he is THE KING of HEFFRON. No other rider in the history of the world has ridden more laps or won as many races here.....#fact

THE KING rates for us the top 10 place getters of Tuesday Night Heffron Week 2.

1st: Darcy ELLERM-NORTON (Rapha) A. Forget what you might have heard last Tuesday night. If a ‘non-sprinter’ can beat the ‘sprinters’, that makes you a sprinter. Or a freak. My guess is a you have greyhound DNA, with a splash of pink. 2nd: Tristan WARD (Sutherland) A. With Garry something or other off riding CX, there needs to be someone in the bunch who displays a perfect head of hair. We all know it’s not you, son. Mullets went out of fashion back before I shaved down. If aero is everything, you have almost nothing. Well other than your banjo. 3rd: Nash KENT (Parklife) A. Good to see Nash back. One of the nice, quiet guys in the peleton. But don’t be fooled by this humble westie. You’ll never catch him doing the wrong thing, his paid tradie can handle that. And 25 great years a Heffron, hell you’re almost as old as The King. 4th: Alex NAZAREWICZ (Manly) A. Naz, do we need to call in Austin Powers to help find your mojo? 4th??? To be trueful I was a tad concerned for the throne all those victories of yours. But then I just sat back and thought to myself in true Fonzie style “Aaaaaa. I’m the King”. I snap my fingers and look what happens. You loooooooze. 5th Jack BENNETT (Randwick) A. Son, I’ve been following your career from when you first rolled in. You have obvious talent, but you’ll never win if you

don’t listen to me. GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA AND TRAIN. Forget the hourly updates or model shots on Instagram. Scores of likes and followers is like becoming a millionaire in Monopoly. Pointless, even when you win. 6th Jesse COYLE (Sydney Uni) A. It’s season 2018/19 and it’s old news that Sunde pronounced you the new King of Heffron. But guess what? I’M STILL HERE so just remember your place. Now Chris Miller should be back soon with his fleet of cameras so no doubt you’ll feature in every VLOG - you might possibly score a ride on a good team for next year. 7th Luke CRIDLAND (St George) A. In my eyes you’re the true winner this week. Legend even. Why you ask? Simple, you smashed your brother. 8th: Rolando DELAYTZ (Bici Sport) A. Stealing B-Grade wins is like taking chocolate off a young child. Hope you have learnt your lesson. 9th Dan BONELLO (St George) A. Dan, you change kit, shoes and teams more times that almost anyone I know. Do you have some private issues that you want to discuss? Call me anytime you have access to a banana. FFS 10th: Chris PARSONS (Randwick) B1. Well done Chris, those last few laps sucking wheels on the back of A-Grade worked wonders
