Framing Future Design

At Herberger Design Institute Objective

Design

The design for the building was based

The objective of this project was to

on two main principles; Axis and Framing. The north south windows on both wings of the building are aligned to frame a main tree lined walkway, giving the illusion that one will walk through the building, just as the east west windows/main entrance are aligned to create that same feeling. All the windows frame the center between the two wings at the axis of the design.

create an art gallery for design student work that fosters a sense of community in a multicultural setting. The project was required to have two gallery spaces and a cafe. The project site is locarted on ASU’s Tempe campus as seen in arial context map to the right.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this design came

from the existing Design building located at the northmost end of Forest Mall. The Design building has two wings connected by a bridge and whether you are a Graphic Designer working in the north building or an Architect studying in the south building... On the center axis which is the bridge we are all Herberger. We are the ones to design the future. I felt it essential to keep that value of being one cohesive design community through the axis of my design.
