Southern MCL Treadway on Mill Avenue The Vision
The vision for this area is to divert busy automobile traffic away from Mill Avenue and transform the streets into a pedestrian plaza with bustling shops and vibrant nightlife. This new development is designed with visitors of all ages in mind, and includes fountains, park pathways, bike routes, added shade, and new vegetation that keep guests entertained through out the day and night. By engaging the user with the site through the creation of green walkways, this treadway allows guests to stroll through the site effortlessly, as they experience all that Mill Avenue has to offer.
Master Plan
Goals & Objectives 1) Revitalize specified sections of roadway to accomodate for traffic by replacing the existing streets with large areas of grass, pathways, bike lanes and bike racks. 2) Implement large tree canopies with cover up to 20’ to alleviate heated pavement and overexposure to vegetation. 3) Incorporate winding pathways and grass patches to enhance overall sensory relationship between visitor and space. 4) Reinvent bike lanes at 4.5’ and relocate them to the center of the plaza for easy travel and minimal disturbance.
Design Guidelines 1) Provide a safe environment free of automobile congestion by eliminating streets and replacing the area with patches of grass and winding pathways. 2) Attract visitors into the space by adding vegetation between intersections, encouraging guests to enjoy a sensory-rich environment as well as entice them to spend more time within the plaza. 3) Recreate and revegetate walkways with Elm tree canopies, winding flagstone walkways, and open grass spaces that allow visitors to use for leisure or play. 4) Install multiple fountains between intersections to help keep the environment cool, and attract guests to the sights and sounds of water. 5) Allow bicyclists to cross through the site freely, with minimal disturbance to pedestrians. Designated bike lanes transform night time travel by illuminating lanes to ensure safety and careful movement trough the treadway at all times. Parking lot ---> Public park
