Effuse
Tempe, Arizona
This project design was derived from the concept of how water is dispersed into the ocean. Three distinct washes were created to represent water deltas that spread through the entire site from already existing water runoff evidence. Having the washes cover the majority of the site lends to the opportunity for people to witness the trajectory of water runoff from ‘A’ mountain. Water might not be physically present at the site every day, but it is there in other forms. Water will be seen in the state of lush foliage from the variety of plants and trees throughout the site. This symbolic passage of water will be absorbed by the people using the space. Through the experience of being exposed to vibrant colored plants and aromatic foliage and flowers, people will feel more connected with the natural environment. The user will feel immersed in different fragrances from the plants in the space. Smells such as chocolate to grape and mint scents will be detected by the users. Through the senses such as sight, tactile and smell people will not just make connections to nature but to old memories and experiences as well. Effuse will be a place to set yourself free from the routine lifestyle set forth by a technology driven society were appreciation for nature has been diminishing.
