Horsham’s controversial Shelley Fountain was likened to a vegetable as councillors decided to give it the chop. A full meeting of Horsham District Council has ordered the removal of the ball-shaped sculpture, also known as The Rising Universe, because it costs too
Hurrah!Good riddance to the partially burnt swede that has blighted our town for many years much to maintain. And while some residents might mourn its demise, delighted Dave Vallance gave the District Post another view. Dave, obviously never a fan of the prominent piece, said: “Regarding the imminent demise of that “thing” known as the Shelley Fountain....Hurrah!Good riddance to the partially burnt swede that has blighted our town for many years.” Arrangements will now be

made to have The Rising Universe moved from its West Street site, 20 years after it was first installed. But some evidence of the creation will remain in the town. While the central globe and satellite arms will be removed the splash pool area popular with children will stay and be incorporated into a formalised planting scheme as part of landscape enhancements to the area. Councillors unanimously agreed the removal at their meeting on Wednesday of last week after being told the sculpture has reached the end of its “serviceable life.” They were told it would need continuing costly repairs as well as weekly and monthly maintenance work to retain it as originally intended. Since installation in 1996 the council says it has had to spend more than £200,000 on repairs and maintenance of the sculpture. A report spoke of current and anticipated pressures on the council’s budgets, and feedback from the public “who are strongly in favour of removing the sculpture”, perhaps echoing the words of people like Mr Vallance. A spokeswoman for the council confirmed that the decision to remove the Rising Universe had been unanimous.

Villagers have joined forces in a new group of watchdogs on aircraft noise. The Association of Parish Councils Aviation Group says it represents residents living in the parishes of Pulborough, Wisborough Green, Kirdford, Loxwood, Plaistow and Ifold who are affected by aircraft noise. The new group says it will act as a unified voice for the communities, comprised of democratically elected parish councils. It seeks to participate in discussions with Gatwick Airport, and the related organisations, to tackle concerns over flight noise. Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert backs the group and opposes a second runway at Gatwick. The MP has met with the group’s chairman Peter Drummond and its vice chairman Ian Hare. Mr Herbert also had an appointment to meet the chairman of Gatwick Airport Sir Roy McNulty to discuss the issue of aircraft noise
and the independent Arrivals Review which was commissioned by the airport. The MP has called for the recommendations of the Review, including a fair dispersal of flights arriving into Gatwick, to be implemented. In a House of Commons debate Mr Herbert also called for the level of existing background noise to taken into account when aircraft noise limits are calculated, so that the impact of flights over tranquil rural areas would be properly taken into account. Nick Herbert said: “I will continue to support local communities who are affected by excessive aircraft noise. I welcome the formation of the Association of Parish Councils Aviation Group and look forward to working with them. “A second runway at Gatwick would more than double the number of flights and makes this problem worse, with more flights than at Heathrow today.”

A touch of tradition in town centre
Scouts maintained an old tradition in Horsham. Groups across the district marched through the town, starting near the railway station and finishing at the bandstand at the Carfax. It was all part of the St George’s Day Parade, an annual event for the Scout movement where members reaffirm their “promise” and acknowledge scout law in a national act of dedication. Before the dedication there was welcome by District Explorer Scout Commissioner Dave King, followed by the presentation of flags and the opening prayers led by Deacon Tom Murray, of St John's Catholic Church, Horsham. The song Bare Necessities from Jungle Book was sung and the 4th Horsham Scout Group made a presentation. This year the Scouting movement commemorates 100 years of the Cub Scout section with local and national celebrations. There was a look back on how times have changed from the beginnings of the movement to today’s modern Cub Scout experiences. At the Renewal of Promises there were Beaver Scouts led by 4th Horsham Beaver Scouts, cub Scouts led by 4th Horsham Cub Scouts and Scouts, Explorer Scouts and all invested adults led by 4th Horsham Scouts. A closing prayer, assembly of flags and the national anthem was
followed by closing thanks. The scouts said they wished to thank the British Legion band, which led
the marching, and the Boom Tribe Community Band. A collection was made for the 2016 nominated

Paramedics help keep air ambulance flying Julia focuses on Queen at 100
Horsham paramedics helped raise £32,000 for a helicopter service that flies people to hospital. Ben Macauley and Caroline Rose were in a team of Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance patients, crew, staff and trustees running in the Brighton Marathon and 10k. Ben recorded a time of 53minutes and 2 seconds and Caroline I hour and I minute. More than 100 runners pounded the streets of the city in aid of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) which was an official Charity Partner of this year’s race. Many of the runners had been helped by the service. One of them was biker Stuart Johnstone who was airlifted after a road accident last June. Nicky Mason also ran the 10k after the air ambulance was called to her son when he fell from cliffs.
The line-up also included marathon runners Adrian Golding from Crawley whose brother was airlifted after a car accident, and Crawley News reporter Dave Comeau. Other paramedic runners were David Wright of Reigate, Richard de Coverly of Cranbrook Craig Prentice of Copthorn and Lewis Price of Dover. Among the corporate teams were finance company ABN AMRO of Haywards Heath. Smart Aviation provided a large marquee for the record number of runners to receive refreshments and a massage after the race. Each helicopter callout costs about £2,500 and the sum raised so far from this year’s race is enough to fund 12 potentially lifesaving missions. Head of Charity Operations Bridget Pepper said: “I’m once
again humbled by the efforts all of our team have put in this year. “Whether it be the first time 10k runner or the seasoned marathon runner, they have all been truly amazing and we’ve heard stories to make us weep and tales to make us laugh. “We’ve heard about and seen the fantastic amounts of money that they have been raising and on behalf of all our patients who will be helped in the future by their efforts, we would like to say a huge thank you.” Anyone interested in running next year’s Brighton Marathon and 10k on April 9 should call Lauren Elphick on 01622 833833 or email laurene@kssairambulance.org.uk For more information visit www. kssairambulance.co.uk/involved/ BrightonMarathon .
A Southwater snapper says she is looking forward to photographing the Queen at 100 after capturing another Royal milestone for her impressive collection. Julia McCarthy-Fox, of Millfield has been photographing the Queen
and other members of the royal family for more than 30 years. The latest addition in her extensive catalogue is images of the Queen at her 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle. Now Julia says she hopes she will be able to be there when the Queen celebrates her 110th birthday. Julia said: “We spent about 14 hours behind barriers in Windsor and had fabulous places and views of everything going on. We spoke to the Queen and wished her Happy Birthday directly, we were able to present her with flowers, we had a front row view of the beacon lighting and we did not get either wet or sunburned. All in all it was a lovely memorable day that we were very lucky to have been able to be a part of. Roll on 2026.” Her planning included a 6am start and she said: “We were very close to the gates and one of the first that the Queen came across to on the walkabout, and I presented her with a small bunch of flowers from our garden, which she always likes, and a photo book which I had compiled. “I then moved along the back of the crowd with my pink ladder and was able to watch the Queen unveiling a plaque further along the route before, accompanied by the Duke, boarding the royal review vehicle for a drive through the centre of Windsor and returning to the castle for lunch.” Julia then moved camp to the Long Walk to a new position to wait several more hours in the sunshine for the royal party to arrive, this time also including the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, for the lighting of the first beacon by the Queen. Pictured are two of Julia’s pictures.

Caring Caitlin inspired by Nan
A schoolgirl whose Nan lives with dementia found a novel way of raising money for a charity. Caring Caitlin Sullivan, 11, from Rudgwick, held a teddy adoption tombola to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. She invited people to win a specially named teddy to adopt, complete with an adoption certificate for their new friend. The tombola was part of Rudgwick Village Day at the King George V playing fields on Sunday. Attractions included a barbeque, bouncy castle, tug of war, dog show, craft stalls, Zumba and live music For those who could not make it
on the day, but would like to donate to Caitlin’s cause, donations can be made via her Justgiving page: www. justgiving.com/Mel-Sullivan1 Caitlin Sullivan hopes to have raised more than £100 when receipts and donations are totalled up. Caitlin said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because my Nanny Ethel has Alzheimer’s disease and sometimes she doesn’t know who we are, but she knows that she loves us. I want to raise money to help people like my Nanny and also to help stop Alzheimer’s in the future. “It’s great to think that I will be
Stroke survivor Jill finishes Marathon A woman who recovered from a stroke completed the London Marathon for her Horsham charity. Determined Jill Wakeman suffered a serious attack in 2013 that left leaving her with no movement in the right-hand side of her body and incapable of saying anything other than ‘no’. But when it came to overcoming her problems her response was definitely “yes”. On leaving hospital after 10 weeks she was determined to show others what can be achieved with sheer hard work and enthusiasm. Over time Jill pushed herself to walk short distances and she slowly built up to running three times a week. In 2015 Jill ran in the Brighton Half Marathon, supported by her three sons and one of their girlfriends who ran together as a team. Jill and her youngest son applied for places in the London Marathon but only Jill was successful. After much consideration Jill decided to take up the place even though she still gets intermittent pain and loss of feeling in her right leg. On Sunday Jill, along with 38,000 entrants, started the London Marathon on a cold and wet morning. Jill was deter-

mined to complete the course and says she was overjoyed to cross the finishing line after running past Buckingham Palace. Jill said: “I was nervous and excited about taking on this challenge. Successfully completing the London Marathon has been a major milestone for me.” Jill is raising money for the Phoenix Stroke Club at Horsham, where she has been a member and received support since January 2014. Jill joined the weekly Communication Group as it was hard for her to find the words she wanted to say and until this point had not been able to read. With the encouragement of volunteers and Jill’s commitment and tenacity she can now read, write and her speaking has improved. Judy Clark, manager of the club said: “We are so proud of what Jill has achieved both at the club and with her running. She is an inspiration and we are delighted she is raising money for the Phoenix Club.” Jill , who is in her 50s, lives with her partner in Horsham. She is the owner of The Pinnacle Letting Company in Piries Place. raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia and to fund research to one day find a cure.” Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser, Hannah Miller, said: “It’s great that Caitlin is giving her time to support Alzheimer’s Society. We hope that as many people as possible will take part in her fantastic fundraising event and help her achieve her fundraising goal. “As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Caitlin to help us continue our vital work. The money raised will fund research into a cure for dementia as well as helping to provide services for people living with the disease.”

Disabled people can taste football sessions Local life saver receives award People with a disability can try football sessions in Horsham run by Albion in the Community. Promotion-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion’s official charity is holding free “tasters” on June 11 at the Holbrook Club in North Heath Lane from 10.30-noon, with qualified coaches. Anyone who has a disability and an interest in playing sport is welcome to go along and take part. Players must be over five, with children and adults welcome. Albion in the Community (AITC) is the largest provider of disability sport in Sussex and runs more than 30 weekly football sessions across the county, helping hundreds of people take part in regular sport.
It gives people with a disability the chance to play competitively, with a range of teams playing in local, regional and national leagues. The charity says it is determined to expand its reach to provide similar opportunities to people in areas of Sussex which is does not yet work in. The Holbrook Club has provided its 3G pitch free of charge and local junior club Horsham Sparrows is also supporting the event. Paul Brackley, Albion In The Community’s disability manager, said: “This is a fantastic chance for people who have a disability and live in the Horsham area to come along, meet our coaches, give football a try and find out about the

opportunities available to them. “We believe that everyone should have the chance to play regular football regardless of whether or not they have a disability. People with a disability are no different to anyone else in that some people like to play socially or for exercise while others want that competitive element. We have sessions to suit everyone.” Albion In The Community has won a string of awards for its disability sport programme and has recently added an amputee football team to its list of clubs. The charity is also planning to launch a session for young people with autism. For more information on AITC’s disability sport sessions, or the taster day in Horsham, email: paul.brackley@albioninthecommunity.org.uk.
A member of local life saving group, Horsham Community Responders, has received an award for attending over one thousand 999 calls. Andrew Clark, who has been a Community First Responder (CFR) since November 2008, regularly volunteers his time to respond, within his local community, to 999 calls, alongside the Ambulance Service. Andrew, who regularly volunteers over 10 hours a week being on duty, is ready to drop everything to help members of his local community and earlier this year, responded to his 1000th emergency call. On his work as a CFR, he commented: “I find it tremendously rewarding to know that we can make a real difference. I really enjoy the chance to help patients in my local community and couldn’t do this without the support from my wife and family. Often, we are in the middle of a meal, or putting the children to bed, when my phone will go off and I drop what I’m doing to attend a call.” Over the time that Andrew has been a CFR, he has had more than one successful rescuitation, which is a great success. Team Leader, Marc Harrold, said: “It is a pleasure to have such a dedicated and experienced member of the team, and I would like to congratulate Andrew on achieving his 1000th call and his continued dedication to his local community”. CFR’s are trained by the Ambu-
lance Service to respond to calls within their local community, where they are able to attend the scene of an emergency in a very short time often within the first few minutes, making them the first on scene. The responder can then begin vital life saving first aid, before the arrival of an Ambulance, further increasing the patient’s chance of survival. CFR’s carry a vast array of equipment, ranging from an advanced first aid kit, Oxygen, some basic drugs and a defibrillator. Types of calls a Community First Responder might attend are falls, strokes, choking, diabetic emergencies, traumatic emergencies (not road traffic collisions), breathing difficulties, patients suffering from seizures, chest pains, heart attack, cardiac arrest and unconscious patients In case of cardiac arrest, for every minute that passes without cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation, a patient’s chances of survival decreases by around 10% per minute.CFRs answer calls in their neighbourhood, therefore, the potential for them to arrive on scene before an ambulance, especially in rural areas, is vital in providing immediate life-saving treatment. These extra minutes help to save lives. For more information about what the team do, or to support the scheme, please visit: www.horshamresponders.org or follow them on Facebook or Twitter

Cyclists remember war fallen from Sussex Soldiers at war
Thiepval Cyclists will visit sites where the deaths of more than 5,000 Royal Sussex Regiment troops are commemorated during a ride to mark the centenary of The Battle of the Somme. Along with other World War One battles such as Verdun the Somme is recognised as one of the bloodiest battles in human conflict with more than a million casualties in four months. Throughout the UK there were 15 designated cycling battalions who were absorbed into the Army Cycling Corps. Many stayed in the UK as part of home defence while others, and their bikes, headed to France and the frontline. Less expensive than motorbikes and used by most people in ordinary day life, the cycle was an everyday reconnaissance and communication weapon in the fight against the enemy. Of the 15 battalions was The Royal Sussex Regiment, with local cycling battalions formed in Purfleet and Brighton in 1914. Many of the cyclists were transferred to other Sussex Battalions. The pals battalions of the Royal Sussex - the South Down battalions, or “Lowther’s Lambs”, - suffered terrible casualties on June 30 in 1916, 24 hours before the much better known “First Day on the Somme”. This was in a diversionary attack, a large scale raid launched by 39th Division at a position called the Boar’s Head, near Richebourg l’Avoue. Just under 1,100 casualties (dead, wounded and prisoners) were incurred in a fruitless attack that had no effect on the enemy’s abilities to withstand next day’s assault on the Somme. The vast majority of the losses were to men from the county of Sussex. Private John Lamont, of the
Army Cycle Corps, wrote home on October 15 in 1915 from France about some terrible scenes that he had witnessed. He began politely with thanks: “Your welcome parcel received today … The cakes were in excellent condition, and you can depend they were enjoyed, more so as we just returned from the trenches this morning about one o’clock, where we have had some hard times. Since last Saturday we have been continually on the go, biking here, marching there, back to the bikes, then off again to some other part of the line, a few hours there, then off again to some other part, and so the time has gone in, with hardly a warm meal, very little sleep, until today we have been left to ourselves. Indeed, it has not been much of a rest, as we have all our clothing, equipment, rifle and bicycle to clean, but we don’t take that into account, and just smile through it all. By the time this reaches you I suppose you will be reading some details of the titanic battle which is raging here. We have taken our share in it, and now, as I have time to think, I am actually surprised to find myself with a whole skin. However great the British losses are, the German losses are bound to be twice the amount, not to say anything about prisoners of which I have seen hundreds in these last three days. The scenes were awful, too ghastly for description, but they will remain forever stamped on the mind.” Ride to the Somme is a three day cycle over 200 miles which will culminate by paying respects at The Memorial to the Missing of the Somme at Thiepval which lists the 72,195 missing British and African soldiers that have no known grave. We will also pay specific respects to members of the Army Cycling
Corps who are commemorated at the nearby cemetery in Pozieres. When riders enlist they will be asked to report on the August 31 to the “recruiting centre” which will be the Imperial War Museum and from there will cycle in Northern France and in particular, on the last day, visit locations where their ancestors will have fought. Such an event is an ideal opportunity to raise money for an appropriate charity and we will be working with SSAFA , which played a crucial role in World War I supporting families and soldiers upon their return home. SSAFA is the longest serving national tri-service military charity. For 130 years, it has provided lifelong support to those who are serving or have ever served in our Armed Forces. Today nearly five million people living in the United Kingdom are estimated to have served in the Armed Forces at some point in their lives. Every year, around 20,000 servicemen and women leave the services and return to civilian life. Their support covers both Regulars and Reserves in the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. They are all entitled to lifelong support from SSAFA, no matter how long they have served. Every year they support 50,000 people. Further details can be seen at www.ridetothesomme.org.uk Contact Andrew Jones 07882 562405 Email info@ridetothesomme. org.uk The charity is still seeking riders to enlist. Entries will close at the end of May.

This honour is achieved by young people aged 16 -25 who have completed a range of challenges, which includes service to their community, completing an expedition in wild country, undertaking a five-day residential project in an unfamiliar environment and learning a new skill or developing an existing talent Bear Grylls said: “All these young people have lived the adventure of a lifetime to achieve their Queen’s Scout Awards, and I admire that spirit so much. They are huge inspirations to over half a million Scouts in the UK and I am so
pleased that Scouting has honoured them today. They are amazing.” The annual Windsor Castle event has been held regularly since 1934 on the Sunday nearest to St. George’s Day. St. George is the Patron Saint of Scouting. Since the Queen’s Scout Award was instigated, over 100,000 of these awards have been presented to young men and women for outstanding personal achievements and service to their local communities. They have learnt new skills and taken part in many of the 200 different activities on offer by Scouting across the UK.

The Rotary Club of Storrington & Pulborough District supports Rydon School catering project
Changes in top cop jobs Surrey and Sussex Police Forces are making a number of changes to their Chief Officer teams. Joining Surrey Police in the collaborated Assistant Chief Constable role for Specialist Crime in Surrey and Sussex will be Jeremy Burton, replacing ACC Stuart Cundy who leaves to take up a role in the Metropolitan Police Service as Commander for Major Crime. Young pupils from Rydon Community College learn new skills, preparing and serving a stylish meal for their parents and other guests Twenty nine Year Seven Rydon Community College pupils came together, in January, to work on a project to set up and run a pop-up restaurant, serving lunch to 50 invited guests last week. Under the guidance of Storrington & Pulborough District Rotarian, Matthew Wykes, who has a background in the hotel industry and catering, the challenge was to plan and execute this culinary event from start to finish, drawing on the facilities and support at the Lodge Hill Centre, Watersfield. The planning and preparation included formulating the menus, understanding how to work within a budget, as well as making sure
the event ran smoothly. On the day itself, the Hall at Lodge Hill had to be transformed into a restaurant and a three course lunch was cooked, and served, under the supervision of the Lodge Hill Chef, Jane Thomson. Some of the pupils also provided musical entertainment for the guests. The project focussed particularly on leadership, team working and communication, with an underlying objective to boost the self confidence and self esteem of those involved. Learning points also included areas such as food hygiene and, of course, the meal preparation, cooking and serving. The event was funded by the Rotary Club of Storrington & Pulborough District, with welcomed additional support from a Storrington Waitrose grant initiative. Rotarian Matthew Wykes (pic-
tured with some of the pupils) commented: “The Rydon College pupils excelled inwhat was a challenging task. The lunch, service and entertainment was top class, but the real joy was seeing the confidence, team working and sense of achievement on the faces of the youngsters involved.” Head Teacher, Allison Murphy, gave full credit to the pupils: “They demonstrated excellent manners, team work skills and a desire to learn new skills. From table decorations, invites, to a three course meal, the pupils did it all in style.

Laurence has worked for Sussex Police throughout his career before successfully completing the national Senior Command Course. Other changes are the departure of Tony Blaker who leaves the role of Chief Superintendent Operations for Surrey and Sussex to join Kent Police on promotion to Assistant Chief Constable and the departure of Chief Superintendent Matt Twist who leaves Surrey on promotion to the Met Police as Commander Taskforce and Armed Policing.

Make a will and benefit hospice St Catherine’s Hospice is calling on the local community to make or update their wills in aid of their local hospice as part of Make a Will Fortnight from Monday. From May 9 to 20 local solicitors including Coole Bevis LLP, Mancini Legal, Rawlison Butler LLP, and Spofforths Private Client Services LLP in Horsham, are offering a limited number of free appointments in exchange for a donation to St Catherine’s. Suggested donations are £100 for a single will, £150 for a joint will and £75 for a codicil but St Catherine’s also asks supporters to consider the value of a solicitors’ professional advice and time when making their donation. It says every donation will make a real difference to patient care; £100 could help fund five hours of specialist, practical advice from our Welfare advisor for patients and
their relatives, or £150 could help provide two days of Art Therapy for Day Hospice patients. Last year, Heather Doughton-Pearce and her husband made their wills as part of the scheme. She Said: “The solicitors were very helpful throughout and I’d highly recommend the Make a Will scheme. It’s a fantastic opportunity to do something we all need to do in life, whilst giving something back.” Jenny Murphy, a partner at Coole Bevis LLP in Horsham knows the value of having a will in place. She said: “If you don’t make a will, there are strict rules as to who can inherit your estate and if more than one person, in what proportion. These may not be the people who you’re closest to or who you’d wish to benefit. By
making a will you decide which family members, friends and/or charities benefit and what they’ll each receive. So what are you waiting for? Make your will now and then relax in the knowledge that your wishes will be carried out.” For a full list of participating solicitors, please visit www. stch.org.uk/howYouCanHelp/ MakeAWillFortnight/participatingsolicitors.asp To book your appointment please contact your chosen solicitor and quote “St Catherine’s Hospice Make a Will Fortnight” or if you would like more information on supporting St Catherine’s as part of the scheme please call Andy Perry, Trusts and Legacies Fundraiser at St Catherine’s on: 01293 447369 or email: andyperry@stch.org.uk.

District Council role in surgery expansion explained A district councillor has explained the part a council is playing in the plan to extend a village surgery. Councillor Ray Dawe, of Chantry ward on Horsham District Council said in a statement: “Many people using the Glebe surgery in Storrington will have seen the plans that are supported by the doctors for an enlarged surgery based on the existing site. I have been asked by various people to explain the role of Horsham District Council in this matter. While the district council has no direct part to play in the provision of medical services, it has been actively involved in supporting the doctors. This support has been in two parts. The first of these was when the other doctors’ surgery in Storrington (Millstream) closed down Horsham District Council immediately purchased the building to safeguard it should it be required for replacement and expansion of the Glebe. The second action has been over long period to try to seek a way of resolving what has proven to be a difficult land ownership problem if expansion on the existing site is to go ahead. We can all totally understand the desire of doctors to provide the best possible medical services for their patients in Storrington and district and to find the Cllr Dawe quickest route to
achieve this. The primary difficulty is that the Diocese of Chichester is the owner of the Glebe field and so must be willing to agree to sell or lease the land for surgery expansion on it. Despite efforts to persuade the diocese to allow this, it will not give permission unless at the same time planning permission is given to allow housing development on the Glebe field. The diocese also controls a covenant over the existing doctors’ building which constrains their ability to sell the building to facilitate a move to another site. As part of discussions with the parties

some months ago, I asked the diocese to submit an outline idea of plans for both an expanded surgery and any housing to Horsham District Council’s so that planning staff could comment on them. As the diocese is aware, council planners supported the expanded surgery but were not able to support the housing development aspect. The diocese also knows that any plan for housing on the Glebe field is contrary to the Neighbourhood Plan being produced by the Parish Council. Following the comments of Horsham District Council’s planners, the diocese was again asked to allow the surgery part alone to go ahead but says it cannot do this. The plans that have now been produced give more detail than those that were submitted to the district council but nevertheless the planning principles are the same. It therefore remains the position that the diocese could allow the expansion of the existing surgery or alternatively be willing to amend the covenant so that the doctors could explore the possibilities of going elsewhere but says that it cannot do either of these things unless it gets permission to build houses. It is to be hoped that public discussion of these plans will now somehow enable a solution to this matter to be found.”

Local family owned business granted multi-million pound planning permission Investment shapes the future for Slinfold Golf & Country Club, with larger premises, expanded services and a bright future. Horsham based Slinfold Golf & Country Club is pleased to announce that planning permission was granted (in January) for expansion of its existing facilities. This will include investing several million pounds in building a 70 bedroom Lodge, alongside expanding the events and functions space, to allow for golf and spa breaks, parties, weddings and conferences. The Retreat spa will grow from four to seven luxury treatment rooms, and the Driving Range area will be transformed to become a premier golf coaching venue. The exciting developments, due to go out to tender during 2016, is expected to take 3 to 5 years to complete, and will generate new jobs for the local Horsham area in the fields of food and beverage, banqueting and hospitality management in particular. General Manager, Luke Blacker commented: “We are proud

of being a family owned and run Club. We believe this makes us special, helping to maintain a welcoming family feel to the Club. With Peter and I working at the Club on a daily basis, we are in a great position to watch the Club evolve and to be a part of its development.” Owner, Peter Blacker, added: “Our members and staff are behind us on this new venture, and we look forward to them being by our side every step of the journey. Whilst change can be unsettling, we can only see positives for the local area and our members during these exciting times.” The developments will see expansion to the already existing golf course and Club House that had a significant refurbishment in 2009. With the state of the art gym, pool, three studios, locker rooms, luxury treatment rooms, crèche, driving range and Club Lounge area already a huge success, the new development will help to secure the Clubs future as one of the premiere Country Club facilities in West Sussex and over the Surrey border.
Please sponsor our wonderful bandstand
A few weeks ago, an appeal for local businesses to help make the town a flora feast again this year (by supporting the sponsorship of railing planters) went out. Horsham in Bloom wishes to thank regular sponsors and any newcomers for responding to this request: “It makes such a difference as to how the town will look for the many visitors who quite simply enjoy strolling around on a market day, at any other significant events, or just even on an ad hoc basis. Horsham certainly takes pride in how it presents itself which it the reason why there is a good healthy shopping atmosphere.” It is not too late to consider
sponsoring a railing planter. The form is available on the Horsham In Bloom website. In addition to the railing planters organisers are introducing a new initiative which is to seek sponsorship for the very attractive boxes which decorate the bandstand. This is a prominent part of town, which is the location for musical performances by hugely talented local musicians who entertain passers by. It is also a gathering point for summer visitors to the town. Horsham in Bloom belive that, for these reasons, it is important that this area looks good: “We are specifically seeking sponsorship from banks, building societies and estate agents who are not already

PETs POST

Sponsored by
Welcome to our monthly ‘Pet Post’, a section dedicated to news, advice and stories from the lives of our loveable friends. This week our sponsored columnist Abbi Moon from the Horsham branch of the RSPCA talks about how to care for your horse. If you have any stories, pictures or tips you would like to feature in this section, please email dpearson@thedistrictpost.co.uk. We hope you enjoy the read.
Is your cat is going to the toilet in a neighbours garden? abbi moon RSPCA
If your cat is going to the toilet in a neighbours garden, or you have a neighbour’s cat coming in your garden, it can be incredibly frustrating. This causes many posts on the Horsham Facebook pages and it is a very emotive discussion, causing strong opinions on both sides of the argument. This month, we have some tips for you on how to try to manage this difficult situation. Cats are free roaming and it is not good to keep them indoors if they are used to outdoor access. Both the owner and the person whose garden is being used as a toilet need to take action to manage the situation, so the first step is to have a polite conversation so both parties are aware. Don’t blame the cat - after all, the cat isn’t using
your garden to be spiteful. It’s just your yard is prime cat real estate! Try to make the area being used less attractive as a toilet area by using pebbles or chippings to cover the earth. Old wives tales suggest plastic bottles with water in them. I don’t know how these are supposed to work. I’ve had limited success with some cats. And that is a key thing - some things will work for some cats. There isn’t a magic cure. If using stone or chipping isn’t working, you could try restricting access. We’ve installed netting over our vegetable patch, which is prime toilet real estate to our neighbourhood cat. If you’re the cat’s owner, try using litter trays with the earth from the affected neighbour’s garden to encourage your cat to go in your garden. If you have litter trays in the house that your moggie isn’t using, perhaps they don’t like the litter you are using or the location. Most cats prefer a fine, sandy litter despite many putting up with the pellet types. Litter trays needs to be
positioned somewhere away from busy areas and away from food and water. With pet rabbits in the garden, it’s even more important for my family to deter our neighbourhood cat. As a cat lover, I don’t want to do anything to scare the cat but equally, I don’t want my rabbits scared to use their run. You can shoo the cat away by shouting, clapping and/or whistling to make your garden a less pleasant place to be. You might want to explain you are going to do this to your neighbour so they are more understanding of why you are scaring their cat. Bursts of water are another way of making your garden a less pleasant place for the cat to hang out. Water guns are one option but only work if you are there. You can also get automatic sprays that detect movement and fire a blast of water. Ask the owner if their cat likes catnip. If so, you could plant a tub of catnip or catmint away from the problem area in the hope this distracts the cat from the area.

Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Your fit and faithful companion may be slowing down and showing signs of old age, but many dog owners consider lethargy, reluctance to exercise and laboured breathing to be ‘par for the course’, especially as they may also be suffering from similar symptoms! However, before you pension off your dog to a sedentary retirement, help is at hand as there are a number of things you can do to delay or reduce the effects of ageing. Activity levels and metabolic rates change as dogs get older, so it is important to evaluate your dog’s diet, particularly as overweight dogs are more likely to suffer from diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, bronchitis and heart disease. Specific diets are available for all
requirements including weight control and diseases, so ask in the surgery for further details. Older dogs may increasingly suffer from stiffness, both during or after walks. It is advisable to keep exercising your dog and if it is lagging behind, make your walks shorter. Reluctance to exercise may occur as a result of arthritis, in which case a number of treatment options exist which can, in many cases, transform the dog’s quality of life. Regular exercise can help your dog’s mobility and promote health. Heart disease is one of the major causes of death in dogs and approximately 10% of pets that visit a vet’s surgery are affected. Early signs of heart failure may include lethargy, coughing, a decrease in
appetite and tiredness on walks. All is not lost however, if the illness is detected early on, medications are available to help maintain the quality and length of a dog’s life. If your dog is showing symptoms of old age, there are medicines, which increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the major organs including the brain and heart. The resulting improvement in overall circulation may increase willingness and ability to exercise and improve demeanour, breathing and overall quality of life – alleviating the symptoms of ageing to give you a happier, healthier pet! So if your pet is showing signs of age, book a health check NOW by simply phoning your vet practice.

Rabbit Health and Husbandry In Association with Rabbit Awareness Week 9-17th May Rabbits are very social animals and love the company of another rabbit to snuggle up to. Male rabbits however, will fight once they reach sexual maturity at 3-4 months old. The best way to introduce rabbits is to have them in separate cages next to each other for a few days, allowing them to get use to each others scent.
Then place them in a large run together and observe their behaviour, often some chasing will occur but will calm down after a short while. This should be repeated until the rabbits are settled in each others company. Once you are confident the rabbits are compatible, they can be put in a clean hutch together and observed to ensure they are still happy in closer proximity. This can

The event was a huge success

lovely new homes, residents had the opportunity to meet and get to know their new neighbours along with those exited to move into the homes they have reserved. According to Rightmove*, Billingshurst has seen a 21% increase in property value over the past 12 months, thanks to its excellent links to London, Horsham and the West Sussex countryside on its doorstep. Commenting on the event and the success so far at Woodland
Place, Stephanie Briggs, Sales & Marketing Manager for Rydon Homes, said: “With Billingshurst so desirable and property prices rising locally it is no surprise that these homes have been selling so fast. It is clear that there is a strong demand for quality homes in well-connected countryside locations.” “We have had a very busy few weeks reserving more plots with many buyers keen to take advantage of the area’s recent surge. And with a stylish new show home to illustrate the quality within this development, we don’t anticipate the remaining homes will be around for long.” Woodland Place blends traditional design on the outside, reflecting a classic Sussex style, with thoroughly modern interiors, perfect for 21st century family living. Each new home at Woodland Place offers bright, airy and wellproportioned layouts, designed to adapt to ever-changing family needs and with designer kitchens and luxurious bathrooms. Garaging, generous parking and large gardens complete the setting for this tranquil escape to the country. Prices for homes at Woodland Place are now from £495,000. The general launch for Woodland Place will be held on Saturday 7 May 10am – 4pm. From this date the opening hours for the show home will be Thursday to Monday 10am – 5pm. For more information or to make an appointment to view Woodland Place please contact Fowlers estate agents in Billingshurst on 01403 786787. *Rightmove data Feb 2015 – Feb 2016
Supply of rental stock nose dives The supply of rental housing stock on letting agents’ books fell in March, to the lowest level since the start of last year, reveals the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) March Private Rental Sector (PRS) report1. Demand also dropped in March; ARLA agents had 33 prospective tenants registered per branch on average, down 11 per cent from 37 in February. This stands below the figure recorded in March last year – when agents registered 36 on average. Supply has also fallen year on year. In March 2015, the average number of properties managed per branch was 192, which is down 12 per cent this year with just 169 rental properties managed per branch- the lowest level since records began in January 2015. It’s a brighter picture in Scotland, where agents had on average 273 properties on their books, and Yorkshire and Humberside, where 207 properties were recorded on average per branch. In London however, agents had just 122 properties on their books per branch. Stamp duty reforms In March, two thirds (65 per cent) of ARLA agents predicted that current and prospective BTL landlords will walk away
from the market following the April stamp duty changes, causing a decrease in the supply of rental properties. Rent costs rose in March for a third of tenants (32 per cent), and three in five (61%) ARLA members fear they will increase further as a result of the changes – a growing sentiment since last month, when 57 per cent of agents agreed on this. David Cox managing director, Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) said: “We don’t expect falling supply to stop here – the recent stamp duty changes are very likely to cause supply to decrease even further, as landlords withdraw from the market. “Not only do our agents predict that rent costs will increase further, but rental homes may also face a decline in quality over time, as landlords struggle to keep up with maintenance costs alongside the higher stamp duty charge. Whilst landlords adjust to the increase in costs we can expect to see one of three outcomes prevailing in the buy to let market: landlords absorbing the cost and taking the hit; landlords withdrawing from the market causing supply to fall; or landlords regaining those costs through hiking rents. Next month we can start to assess the damage.”

Another Newmarket triumph for Ryan Moore Horse racing Martin Read - Sports Reporter
Ryan Moore on Minding
Outstanding local jockey Ryan Moore renewed his liking for Newmarket by winning the prestigious 1000 Guineas, the first Classic flat race of the season, for 3 year old fillies over the Rowley Mile. Moore won the race in 2012 on Homecoming Queen and again last year - on Legatissimo (when he also triumphed in the 2000 Guineas, a rare double). This year’s race was exceptionally special for Aidan O’Brien, it was his 250th Grade 1 success and, incredibly he trained the first three horses, all daughters of super-sire Galileo, the 2001 Derby winner. But 11-10 Minding was the undisputed winner, romping home by three and a half lengths from Ballydoyle and Alice Springs. Minding won two Group 1 races as a two year
Horsham Gymnasts excel at regional grades Horsham Artistic Gymnastic squad
Artistic Gymnastics Dave Smith- Sports Editor Over two very successful weekends Horsham Gymnastics Centre’s Women’s Artistic squad competed at the South East Regional Grades and came away with 5 regional grades champions, 1 silver, 2 bronze, 1 x 4th and 2 x 6th places and with all of the 18 gymnasts who competed passing their grades with either a commendation or distinction. In the Grade 5 in and out of age competition Lily Garrard competed
extremely well, taking the gold medal in the out of age section and Morgan Millar, competing in the in age category, also performed superbly and also earned a gold medal. Polly Stott then competed at grade 6 out of age. She had a great competition and achieved the bronze medal overall with the second highest score on beam. In the grade 6 in age section there were 57 gymnasts competing; Horsham being represented by Evie HarrisDuff and Jessica Harmer. Evie finished a creditable 17th overall
and Jess a fantastic 4th overall. Jess also top scored on the bars and beam The second weekend of competition began with the National 4 and 2 grades. In the National 4 section Izzy Carr and Phoebe Light finished a creditable 10th and 15th overall. The National 2 category saw 3 gymnasts compete with Scarlett Tidy being crowned the regional grades champion with Horsham’s Honesty South 2nd and Fran Clark 6th. Scarlett and Honesty will both now compete for the South East region at National Finals in Stoke in May. Poppy Griggs and Millie Craven finished 6th and 7th respectively in the National 3 and passed their grades with commendations. Lola McNaughton also competed in this round at National 5 grade placing 1st overall and being named the South East National 5 grade champion.Competing in their first grading, Elisha Venturini was placed 4th overall, Brooke Stocker came 8th and Tabitha Lees 12th. The following day in the Regional 4 competition Jaia SahotaLyons was placed a well deserved 9th overall and Sophie Hilliard, competing at the same grade, came away as the regional grade 4 champion.
Palmer’s Renault team secure first points Jolyon Palmer at the Russian Grand Prix
Formula One Dave Smith- Sports Editor
Jolyon Palmer finished thirteenth in the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom but his team
mate, Kevin Magnussen, finished seventh to secure their Renault Sport Formula One team’s first points of the 2016 season. Both drivers made up ground during the race with Palmer starting eighteenth on the grid and Magnussen seventeenth. After the race Palmer said “It’s great for the team to get our first points of the season and I’m pleased that we’re making genuine progress with the car. Kevin showed what is possible today so that’s a good target for the next races. Overall we’ve learnt a lot of positives this weekend so I feel there’s a lot to build on for the races ahead.”
old and the Dubai Fillies Mile. In the 1000 Guineas she was always in strong contention, powering through to win comfortably, Ryan Moore saying: “We didn’t go that quick early on but I didn’t want to hold her back. She travelled well
We didn’t go that quick early on but I didn’t want to hold her back throughout the race and the result was never in any doubt – she’s as good a filly as I’ve sat on. I was expecting a bit more speed in the race: she’s just faster than them and stays better, too.” There is
speculation whether Minding will go in for the Oaks – one and a half miles at Epsom next month – or the Derby. 32 year old Ryan Moore’s achievements are an extraordinary roll of honour, including the legendary Melbourne Cup, and, in Britain - apart from regularly being Champion Jockey - the Ascot Gold Cup, the Coronation Stakes, the Eclipse, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Oaks. Ryan is equally well known abroad having won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Prix du Jockey-Club in Paris and top races in Ireland, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, United Arab Emirates and United States. Racing is in the blood – father Gary training at Cisswood Stables and jockey brothers Jamie and Joshua and sister Hayley are no strangers to the winner’s enclosure.
Hawks book places in finals showdown U13 Horsham Hawks 100 – 66 U13 Worthing D&D Youth Bashketball David Clayton - Horsham Hawks The Horsham Hawks have booked their place in the U13 Sussex Cup Final after beating the current holders in convincing fashion 100 – 66 in a highly energised semi-final. This will be Horsham’s third successive trip to the final and a chance to add a second piece of silverware this season against the Crawley Cagers. In a see-saw first quarter featuring eight lead changes it was the league champions who edged into an early one point advantage to close the first quarter 22-21. An incredible 35-5 Hawks run by the hosts to open the second quarter put Horsham firmly in control of the contest with the lead extended to 62-41 at the half. Horsham continued to dominate as the third period began
with the score line stretching to 72-43 before a 14-8 response from the visitors. Horsham hit the century mark with a sixteen point fourth quarter in a game where every member of the Hawks getting their name on the scoresheet. With trials for South East England and Sussex currently taking place congratulations to Josh Lea-Clayton and Josh Tavolieri for making it to the last 16 in the U13 South East England squad. Congratulations also to Meghan Stevens for being selected to the U15 Sussex girl’s squad. Saturday April 30 - Bob Rogers Cup Semi-Final Burgess Hill 10 – 73 Horsham Rugby Dave Smith- Sports Editor Horsham were heavily fancied to beat Burgess Hill, who next season will be playing rugby two leagues lower, and so it proved. After Pulborough had conceded to Horsham in the previous round Burgess Hill, although facing little chance of winning, turned out and put in a spirited performance. Horsham however won convincingly running in eleven tries in the process, four of which were scored by Joe White. Horsham now go on
to face Hove in the final on May 7. Horsham used the opportunity to blood the youngsters with four players making their 1st XV competitive debuts off the bench namely Sam Harding, Matt Blake and 17 year olds Jordan Bell and Ryan Maguire. As expected Horsham were dominant from the start and it only took minutes for Mike Watts to run in his seventeenth try of the season from 35 yards, which Tom Johnson converted. Adam Clarkson and Kyle Fairs then linked well to send Ollie Harcus over for the second try before spirited Burgess Hill replied with a try from prop Paul Hasib. The try made Horsham switch up a gear and they run riot – scor-
A good start in the league for Pulborough Bowls Jane Gray - Pulborough BC Pulborough’s first game of the season was a friendly against Marine Gardens in Worthing. Three triples played 18 ends, in chilly, coastal conditions, with Pulborough winning 2 out of 3 games. Top rink for Pulborough went to skip, Malcolm Gray, lead, Pauline Adsett and number 2 Mick Ayling, 21/1. Melvin Green and team had a closer game, after being level at half way, they went on to score a 5 on end 15 to win 17/12. The final score was 48/51 to Worthing. Pulborough’s first competitive
game in the Brookes Motor’s League was away against top team Chichester. Two triples played 18 ends with Skip, Paul Day and team unfortunately losing a last end shoot out, 21/18. The second rink of John Brown, Jan Barnes and Chris Etherington managed to pull out a lead of 8 points by the 8th end finishing 5 shots ahead to secure 2 points for their win and a second 2 points for the overall victory for Pulborough, 40/38. Pulborough are at home against Billingshurst tomorrow (Saturday 7) and away against Henfield on Sunday 8.

It was a good performance from a team with up to fifty per cent of the regular starting line-up out Fairs. Refusing to lie down Burgess Hill again scored a well taken try from
Joe Turner to narrow the deficit to 35-10. The Burgess Hill try was however no more than a ripple as wave upon wave of Horsham attacks saw tries at regular intervals throughout the match to run out comfortable winners and secure a place in the final. Horsham head coach Nick Stocker said: “It was a good performance from a team with up to fifty per cent of the regular starting line-up out. With no disrespect to Burgess Hill the game as a contest was out of their reach by half-time. Joe Wilde with his four tries has looked really sharp at the end of the season. He has really come of age and will be a
key player for us next year. Kyle Fairs try was one to cherish. He has worked hard this season and I know there is more to come. Ollie Harcus was exceptional again. He has a good all round game and his arrival has been a great asset. Mike Watts always looked dangerous and it was very encouraging to see performances from the young players Ryan Maguire, Jordan Bell and Matt Blake.” Horsham: Watts; Wilson (Bell), Ordidge (Harding), Wilde, Downey (Blake); Johnson T, Mills (Walker); Harcus, Grantham-Hill, Fairs; Clarkson (Maguire), Whiting; Cass (Brady), Thompson, Fisher (Carvell)
Horsham Rugby Club fundraising the Wright way HRUFC Horsham to Paris
Rugby Martin Read - Sports Reporter Horsham Rugby Club stalwart Chris Wright is leading a group of his peers on a cycle ride to Paris to raise funds for the club’s major new changing room project. Chris told the District Post: “Graham Boswell, Dennis Emson, Bob Essex, Steve McCall and Roger Pitts will be riding with me and Alan Fisher is our support driver - between us our combined
membership at the club adds up to more than 200 years! Our target is to raise £2,000 and we’ve got off to a promising start with pledges. The club is intending that the improvements will encourage the development of women and girls’ rugby and provide enhanced disabled facilities, too. We’re all over 60 and none of us cycles regularly so it’s a decent challenge for us, but we’ve been doing some training runs and are determined to complete the ride and are confident that we
will. To spur us on we’ll be giving a little support to the French wine industry en route – we’re the last of the summer winers really!” The group take the overnight ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe on May 22 and then join the Avenue Verte – a paved cycleway with minor roads and forest tracks, a mix of flat and undulating runs with a few significant climbs. Horsham ease past Ifield in the cup Horsham’s overseas player Jofra Archer with new captain James Johnson and club sponsors
Photo by Clare Turnbull Sunday May 1 - Sussex GrayNicholls T20 Cup Ifield 127–6 (20 overs) Horsham 128-2 (18.4 overs) Horsham won by 8 wickets Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Winning the toss Horsham elected to field and after David Croshaw (1-13) snared former Roffey batsman Mike Norris for 5, Michael Munday took 4-24 reducing Ifield to 32-6.
The Ifield skipper warned an incoming batsman: “Be watchful Munday bowls big leg breaks.” But, Michael promptly confirmed that his repertoire is more extensive by nailing the newcomer LBW with a straight one before the next man in was undone by a googly. However, once Munday had completed his allocation Pratik Patel (64) and Joe Smith (26) put on an unbroken 95 to post a challenging target. Pre-match, new Horsham overseas signing Jofra Archer was formally welcomed by skipper James John-
son and the club’s two principal sponsors, Skytrail and Gardner & Scardifield before delivering four sharp and mean overs taking 1-16, a rugged up Jofra quipping: “It’s great to be here but I’ve just flown in from the Caribbean where it was over 30!” Losing an early wicket Horsham responded carefully, Joe Ludlow again demonstrating how to build a one day innings. Batting in tandem with Michael Thornely, the pair made 113 for the second wicket. Ludlow brought up his 50 with a six before Thornely was caught in the deep trying to end the game in the grand manner. James Johnson told us: “They did well to get to 127, worth at least 140 because the outfield was so turgid“. Thornely added: “It’s fantastic to be back at Horsham but that was hard work - the wicket and the bowlers were slow, making it difficult to get the ball away.” In Horsham’s first game in this season’s Premier League tomorrow (Saturday) they entertain mercurial Brighton & Hove before going to Roffey on Sunday in the National KO Cup.
Billingshurst bow out of the T20 Cup Saturday April 30 - Sussex GrayNicholls T20 Cup Brighton & Hove 145-7 (20 overs) Billingshurst 82 All Out (17.4 overs) Brighton & Hove won by 63 runs Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Brighton & Hove won the toss, setting Billingshurst 146 to win, a demanding target, hail and rain showers slowing the outfield, and with the ball plugging. Sussex’s 19 year old Philip Salt, the new Brighton Captain was bowled by Andy Barr with the first ball of the game, repeating Andy’s
achievement at the seaside last season, but the next wicket put on 42 runs - the highest partnership of the contest, opener Henry Hunt going on to top-score with 48. In addition to an excellent overhead catch and Hurst’s main contribution with the bat, Barr, fresh from playing in Australia in the winter, bowled with pace taking 2-16, while David Dunn took 2-12 and Ben Williams and Shane West one each, an Alexander Lowther run out completing the dismissals. Last season Hurst beat Brighton twice in the league but this time they soon found themselves on 26-4. A partial recovery followed but they had no answer to former Brighton
Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Roffey won this T20 Cup game in double quick time after putting Lindfield in and dismissing them for a totally inadequate 75, Rohit Jagota’s frugal opening spell paving the way with 4-11. The lower league hosts, including former Roffey Second XI skip-
per Simon Shivnarain, were soon 29-6 and it quickly got worse with two run outs before Alex Collins mopped up the tail with 2-1 off nine balls. Leigh Harrison and George Fleming took one apiece, 17 extras being the major contributor for Lindfield. Roffey lost a solitary wicket on 35, but Usman Khan with 25 and recently signed overseas player, Aussie Liam Gibson with 32, including two sixes, saw Roffey home without further alarm. New Roffey Captain Matt Davies told us: “The wicket was soft and green so I inserted them without hesitation and their batsmen got themselves

Captain Chris Atherton’s nagging accuracy, earning him 4-12, wickets falling all too regularly. Salt who chipped in with two stumpings and a catch as Hurst subsided to 82 all out with 14 balls unused – told the District Post: “In these conditions and with the wicket taking spin I thought 120 was about par, so I was quite confident that we had enough”. Hurst were without stellar all-rounder Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi, delayed – temporarily they hope – by a visa rebuttal. Tomorrow (Saturday) Hurst will begin their Premier League campaign with a tricky home fixture against last season’s surprise package Bexhill.
