Nursing home staff suspended after allegations phil dennett News Editor

Two women workers at a Cowfold nursing home have been suspended from duty after assault allegations were made about treatment of a patient. Police have carried out investigations at Homelands Nursing Home, just off the A281 Horsham Road at Cowfold. The home has told the Post that it is devastated by the allegations because it is proud of the care it gives. It was recently given a favourable report after a home inspection. Frances Price, care manager at the home, said she could not discuss details but told the Post on Wednesday: “On Saturday we were given a lot of support from relatives and friends who cannot believe that this has happened here. We are all hoping that this alleged assault is substantiated and that a prosecution will follow. My staff are devastated that this has happened. We provide excellent care from dedicated staff and it is heart breaking to think that due to the actions of these two ‘people’ our home could now be portrayed in a poor light.” Police were asked to investigate unexplained injuries on one of the residents in the Coach House sec-

tion. The staff concerned do not work in the other section, known as the Manor House. The popular home, split between the Manor House complex and a Coach House centre for people with dementia, can accommodate 43 patients aged over 65 and its services include nursing care, dementia nursing, palliative care, mental health and learning disabilities. It recently received a “good” rating by the Care Quality Commission after a visit. Safety at the home, effectiveness, caring and leadership were all rated as “good”, although responsiveness earned it the comment from the Commission “requires improvement.” Part of the Commission’s report said: “We inspected Homelands Nursing Home on the 14 June 2016. We previously carried out a comprehensive inspection at Homelands Nursing Home on 29 May 2015. We found the provider was in breach of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. This was because we identified concerns in respect to cleanliness and maintenance of the service, people not being treated with dignity and respect and quality monitoring. The service received an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’ from the comprehensive inspection on 29 May 2015. After this inspection, the provider wrote to us to say what they would do to meet the legal requirements in relation to these breaches.
