Pudsey and pals enthrall Carfax hordes at stunning Rotary show News Martin Read Horsham’s free half term Halloween day in aid of Children in Need drew in large family crowds with well-loved shows on the bandstand hosted by cheery TV presenter Dave Benson Phillips (DBP) with Pudsey and his gang of mascots. The day was arranged and designed by Horsham Rotary Club – a national Children in Need partner – in conjunction with Horsham District Council. The three bandstand Pudsey shows proved very popular with singa-longs, dancing and acting to timeless favourites, interspersed with story telling and conjuring by Wizzall the Wizard. A BBC camera crew arrived to film a segment for their November Children in Need telethon Spectacular as Witchy Fe – also known as circus performer Fiona Eagle – flew in from London and soared off at 4.30 saying: “Must go – no lights on my broomstick!” BAFTA nominated DBP – a good friend of the Rotary Club – led the entertainment with his trusty sidekick Pudsey, DBP telling the District Post: “It’s great to be back in Horsham – I love it here and it’s fantastic to see so many kids, mums and dads enjoying themselves on this lovely day.” Busy DBP will soon be hitting the road with his “Best

Ever Christmas” touring show. So good was the entertainment that Pudsey was rendered speechless, coyly declining all interview requests. But, the cuddly bear was still recovering from an all day appearance at Gatwick when Horsham Rotarians and other Rotary Clubs throughout Sussex and Surrey raised over £3,500. Last week there was a Rotary Club trick or treat trail through the town shops and the highlight of Horsham’s Halloween day was the fancy dress procession led to the bandstand by DBP in Pied Piper of Hamelin style through the mall, the children scaring unwary shoppers along the way. India Randis won the junior prize (repeating her last year’s success, when she came as Cruella Deville), dressed as a cracked doll, accompanied by mother Jana as a scarecrow. Sophie Light, enswathed with bloodstained bandages took the next award and Ellie Tate triumphed in the older children category, wearing a costume she fashioned with her mum. Adults joined in the spirit, Chris Millard of Horsham excelling as a street monster, daughter Isabel insisting: “I thought daddy should dress up!” Meanwhile, at the Halloween activity marquee there were kid’s crafts and messy play with lucky dips, and at the Carfax amphitheatre Rotarians ran the pumpkin

Three workmates from Horsham took on the UK’s highest sky dive to help the work of lifesavers. Paul Garner, Holly Salmon and Colin Leitch flew beyond the clouds almost three miles from the ground in Salisbury for the 15,000ft skydive, the highest possible altitude from which to parachute jump in the UK. They had the thrill of a pulse-racing freefall for almost an entire minute. The trio raised more than £1500 for the SERV Sussex charity, which provides night time transportation of blood, blood products and other urgent medical items for NHS hospitals across Sussex. Whilst collectively Paul, Holly and Colin, of Station Garage, Horsham, beat their fundraising target of £1,500, the funds are still being collected so they are hoping to get closer to £2,000 once all the donations are in. Colin said: “I never dreamt I’d commit myself to a skydive as the thought quite frankly filled me with fear but when I saw the opportunity to take on the challenge for such a good cause I knew I had

to push myself. “I can’t quite describe the feeling of the whole experience. I was absolutely petrified on the flight up and couldn’t quite believe just how high we were above the ground. “When I finally jumped from the plane my initial reaction was panic, but then realisation sets in that you’re safe, you can relax and it was utterly amazing - one of the best experiences of my life. “The best feeling though is knowing that I have helped the team raise the vital funds. SERV Sussex is an amazing charity completely run by volunteers. They provide their time so selflessly so anything we could do to help them continue this incredible service is very worthwhile.” James Thorpe, dealer principal at Station Garage, said: “At Station Garage family and team work means everything to us so we are very proud of Paul, Holly and Colin for taking on such a huge challenge - especially as a skydive was something completely out of their comfort zones.”

Troy is a Tough Mudder An electrical technician at a Horsham firm has raised more than £600 for a children’s hospice by completing a Tough Mudder run. Troy Greenfield, who works at SGN’s Sussex depot in Horsham, successfully completed the popular endurance race at Holmbush Farm, Faygate. Chestnut Tree House, based in Arundel, West Sussex, was established in 2003 and currently cares for 300 life-limited children, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes. Its goal is to provide the best quality of life for children, young people and their families, and to offer practical, social and spiritual support throughout each child’s life, however short it may be. Troy, 37, said: “I undertook Tough Mudder as a personal challenge, as I’m the sort of person who likes to test his own abilities. This wasn’t my first obstacle course run but it

was the first one I completed that’s over a 10-mile distance. I wanted to make it worthwhile by doing some fundraising, particularly for a charity that’s local to me and I know that Chestnut Tree House does fantastic work.” The £300 that Troy raised through sponsorship from friends, colleagues and family was matched by a donation from SGN’s Into Action fund that supports employees who give their time to charities, bringing the amount donated to Chestnut Tree House to £600. Terrina Barnes, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Chestnut Tree House, said: “We are so grateful to Troy for taking part in the Tough Mudder event and choosing to support us. The money raised will make a real difference to families of children with life-shortening conditions in Sussex and South East Hampshire”

Pensioner jailed for eight years after shooting A 71-year-old man has been jailed for eight years after being involved in an incident where another man was shot in the leg last October. Police were called to an address in Fairmead Close, in the hamlet of Fittleworth, about three miles from Pulborough, at about 6.40pm on October 31 2015 to investigate a report of an argument between the two. A 61-year-old local man was treated by paramedics at the scene for a gunshot wound to the leg and taken to hospital. He was discharged a few weeks later. Brian Acott, 71, retired, of Fairmead Close, Fittleworth was arrested and subsequently

charged with wounding with intent, possessing a firearm when prohibited for life and possessing a prohibited weapon. Acott pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited weapon and Section 20 assault and was remanded in custody before sentencing at Chichester Crown Court. Speaking afterwards Detective Constable Ceri Spratt of Sussex Police said: “This was an unusually violent incident to happen in a quiet, rural community. “I am pleased with the sentence imposed and hope that it will in some way help the victim following what was undoubtedly an incredibly traumatic experience.”

Sports fans reach agreement Sports enthusiasts have reached a compromise over facilities at the new £12.3 million Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. Horsham District Council has confirmed that an indoor informal activity space will be retained. This will include a six court sports hall, fitness gym, studios, changing facilities, clip and climb area, sensory room and café. The council said in a statement: “Following extensive consultation with user groups over several months we are pleased that a workable solution has now been found. This activity area addresses the storage requirements and toilet facilities that the groups have asked for as well as retain-

ing an informal area for some activities that can be made available during inclement weather. “This solution follows recent discussions with Sport England and England Athletic. We are confident that Places for People will be able to use and maximise the number of activities that can take place here.” The centre will be the district’s largest public dry sport and leisure centre and will complement existing facilities in Horsham, Billingshurst and Steyning. It is due to open in Spring 2018. The current leisure centre will be open throughout the construction process with all services and activities continuing as normal.

Carfax Post Office moving to WH Smith

Post office users will soon be calling at Horsham’s WH Smith in Swan Walk instead of the current post office in the Carfax. Reflecting similar changes in other towns, the Post Office is moving the Horsham Post Office branch and creating a new branch next year within the nearby WH Smith’s store offering the same range of Post Office services. A consultation on the change will be run until December and it is expected the move will be complete in March. The Post Office branch will move to the WHSmith store at 1415 Swan Walk,Horsham. The existing Horsham branch team will move to the new site and will continue to be employed by the Post Office, delivering high quality service to customers. The Post Office will be inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the proposed move in a six-week public consultation that started on October 26. Roger Gale, General Manager of the Post Office Crown Network, said: “We are committed to keeping our services on the high street which we know is hugely important to people. This proposal means we can continue to do that, into the future. “Our customers will be offered the same range of services.

“Our collaboration with WHSmith helps secure the long-term viability of services for local customers. “We are making sure we take the right course of action to sustain services for years to come. We must adapt to the changing

needs of our customers, who want a convenient and flexible choice of when and how they do business with us – whether that is face to face, on the web or through new initiatives such as self-service kiosks.” Subject to consultation, the new Post Office branch will have four serving positions plus three self -service kiosks. During the public consultation, which ends on 7 December 2016, the Post Office welcomes feedback on factors such as the location, the proposed premises, accessibility or community issues that customers would like considered before a final decision is made on the proposal. It is proposed the branch would move in March 2017. Customers can provide views during the consultation on the website: postofficeviews.co.uk by email at comments@postoffice. co.uk or by phone: 03457 22 33 44, with Textphone 03457 22 33 55.

Snowflake appeal for last chance children Showing off their school Not all local children are lucky enough to have a happy start in life. There are children like Mia, who at nearly three years old had rarely met or played with other children. Now a special “Snowflake” appeal is being run by a charity serving Horsham, Crawley and Mid Sussex to help youngsters like Mia by raising a target figure of £5,000. In Mia’s case her mother’s mental health issues meant they hardly went out, home life was volatile, with no routine. And with another baby on the way, the family was sliding into debt. Last year 436 vulnerable children, including Mia, had support from local charity Home-Start

CHAMS, because their families were struggling with issues such as poverty, mental health problems, or domestic abuse. But there were more local children across Horsham Crawley and Mid-Sussex experiencing hardship or tragedy and in need of the charity’s help who they had to turn away because of lack of funds. Which is why Home-Start CHAMS has launched its Snowflake Appeal, asking people to ‘Help a Local Child’ and make sure it can support the vulnerable children in our area who need their help in the future. Jacquie Thomas, Fundraising Manager at the charity said: “Our support is often the last chance for vulnerable

children and their families who need help to get them through tough times or to cope with problems they’re experiencing.” “We want to be able to reach every young child who needs us, so we can help give them the best possible start in life, just as we did for Mia and her new baby sister”, To make an on-line donation now, or to find out more about how you can help make sure vulnerable children don’t have to be turned away in the future, go to the charity’s website at www.homestartchams.org.uk/snowflake. For this article the child’s real name was changed to Mia.

Lower school students acted as tour guides and answered any questions that future Year 7 students might have. First aiders warning for Bonfire Night Firework fans are being urged to know some first aid in case things go wrong. Leading first aid charity St John Ambulance says some basic first aid skills might help for the November 5 Bonfire Night celebrations. St John Ambulance volunteers will be attending firework events across the West and East Sussex so that anyone who needs first aid gets it quickly. However, it says injuries are much more likely to occur at private parties, where trained volunteers will not be on hand to help. Every year, about 1,000 people will visit hospital casualty departments for treatment of a firework-related injury in the four weeks around November 5 Marita Edwards, community training coordinator, said: “Our volunteers will be on hand to provide expert first aid assistance at public displays across the region but if you are organising a private event, you need to know what to do if there is a first aid emergency. “For example, if someone suffers a burn injury, it’s important

to take immediate action to prevent them from going into shock or suffering long-term damage. The most common injuries that our volunteers are required to treat at Bonfire Night gatherings are burns, e.g. from fireworks, fire or sparklers, debris in the eye from bonfires and fireworks and smoke inhalation. A burn or scald should be under cold water for at least 10 minutes. Completely cool the skin to prevent pain, scarring or further damage. If the burn is on a child, or if you think it’s a serious burn, for example if it is deep, larger than the size of their hand, or on the face, hands or feet, call 999/112 for an ambulance. Remove any jewellery or clothing near the burn, unless they are stuck to it. Do not pop any blisters or apply ice, cream or gel; this can make it worse. Once cooled, cover the burn with cling film or a plastic bag If necessary, treat them for shock, by laying them down with their legs raised and supported above the level of their heart. their eye pour clean water over their eye to wash it out or try to lift the debris out with a damp corner of a clean tissue. If this does not work just cover it with a clean dressing or nonfluffy material and take them to hospital. If someone inhales smoke fumes help them sit down in a comfortable position away from smoke and loosen any tight clothing around their neck to help them breathe normally. If they do not recover quickly, call 999/112 for an ambulance. For first aid information, visit www.sja.org.uk for more first aid tips. Teenage Study Stress being addressed at the new Horsham Study Centre It has been recently reported nationally that students are under more pressure than ever before and that levels of anxiety have increased. A number of factors have been found to contribute. Schools and teachers are increasingly under pres- sure to raise their performance and these concerns have been transferred onto their pupils. More and more children are returning home to empty homes as parents are working increasingly longer hours and there are more distractions than ever before at home in the form of social media and electronic games. It is therefore no wonder that more and more students are suffering from mental health issues and in particular anxiety, often triggered by falling behind with school work and the resulting sense of failure. The Horsham Study Centre,

in Blackhorse Way is working to address these anxieties by providing a calm and supportive environment to study in. Students can come straight from school and use the facilities and take advantage of the expert guidance involved. Whether it just be a calm environment in which to study to keep on top of the workload, receive support with subjects they find particularly hard or identifying the best revision techniques in the lead up to exams, the Horsham Study Centre can help. Open from 3.15pm – 5.45pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-4pm on Saturdays students have the opportunity to get all their work done before arriving home and freeing up their evenings for other activities. Fund raising has good foundation

Customers and staff at a builders merchants have raised nearly £30,000 to help children with terminal illness. Covers Timber and Builders Merchants in Horsham and Rudgwick have helped to raise £29,700 for local hospices including St Catherine’s Hospice in Worthing and Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice in Arundel. After the success of last year’s campaign, when the company raised more than £27,000 for

hospice charities in the South East, Covers’ second Help for Hospices week saw the firm pledge £20,000 of its own money to kick start 2016’s activities as well as donating £1 for each registered customer who made a purchase, which helped contribute another £2,820 to the fundraising total. During the week-long event volunteers from St Catherine’s Hospice joined Covers’ staff at the Horsham and Rudgwick depots for a ‘builders bake off’

offering an array of delicious homemade cakes in exchange for donations. Sales of raffle tickets helped to further bolster funds with the winners announced at a grand draw, which was attended by representatives from the charities. The lucky winner of the top prize of a London Hotel Theatre Break for two was confirmed as Wade Ayling from Brighton. Rupert Green, Chairman of Covers, said: “Once again we have had an incredible response to our Help the Hospices week and would like to thank everyone who got involved, supported us and helped to raise money for some of the worthiest causes in our community.”Pictured left to right: Alisa Lakeman-Ford (St.Wilfrid’s Hospice Trusts and Corporates Senior Officer), Eliza Dunn (Rowans Hospice Corporate & Event Fundraiser), Alison Taylor (Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice Corporate Fundraiser), Rupert Green (Chairman of Covers), Chris Walton (St.Wilfrid’s Hospice Trustee and Chair of the Fundraising and Communications Committee), Andy Perry (St. Catherine’s Trust and Legacies Fundraiser), and Mary Bye (St Barnabas Community Fundraising Officer).

Their images are now on display in the new marketing suite for Care UK’s Skylark House on St Marks Lane in Horsham. Some of the designs include ‘My teddy called Bun Bun’ by Brooke Johnson age six and ‘My goldfish’ by James Coward, age six, who both visited the suite to see their artwork up on display. As well as enjoying the children’s creations, visitors to the marketing suite can now take a closer look around the purposebuilt care home in Horsham, which will boost the provision of residential, nursing and dementia care, and short-term respite care

in the area. Karen Davies, customer relations manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to invite the children from Holbrook Primary School to draw pictures of who they most care about, they look fantastic in the new marketing suite at Skylark House. “We have worked hard to ensure the environment at Skylark House feels like a ‘home from home’ for the future residents. Our doors are now open for those who want to meet the experienced team already on board, and find out more about the range of care we will be providing at Skylark House.” The new three-storey care home, which will feature 82 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives,

while also promoting independence. The care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café. The marketing suite at Skylark House is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Blitz on dodgy pavements promised Walkers in Horsham are among pedestrians who should benefit from a pavements blitz. The town is one of those in West Sussex County Council’s “Even Better Pavements” programme. The scheme, which will see £5m invested in the county’s pavements over two years, will help protect the most vulnerable from slips, trips and falls on uneven surfaces. Priority has been given to pathways used for approaches to schools, clinics and hospitals, and areas with high footfall. The County Council is spending £2m this year and £3m in 2017/18. Improvements are being made in 2016/17 to pavements in Horsham, Lancing, Sompting, Bognor Regis, Selsey, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. Pavements are being reconstructed or given a new asphalt surface. Work is carried out in one geographical area at a time to minimise disruption and cost. County Council Cabinet Mem-

ber for Highways and Transport, Bob Lanzer, said: “We look after nearly four thousand kilometres of pavements in West Sussex and walk and inspect every single one at least once a year. “The Even Better Pavements programme is taking this one stage further. “The extra investment will enhance the look of pavements in our towns and make it even safer for pedestrians, particularly residents with reduced mobility, to use confidently. “Work is progressing well and residents will start noticing the difference.” The work is above and beyond the County Council annual road improvements and maintenance programme. If you notice damaged pavements or kerbstones, or missing paving slabs or kerbstones, please report them to us online here. Hundreds turn out to plan future More than 600 people attended a session to help students choose their next path in life. The Weald School at Billingshurst opened its doors for its 23rd Future Choices Fair, the flagship event in its rolling careers programme. The fair was open to students across all year groups, and helped them make informed decisions about their future choices, whether they are considering apprenticeships, further or higher education or employment. Throughout the evening, students networked with business professionals gaining first hand insight into entry routes, experience required to break into particular industries along with employability skills and raising awareness of the number of career opportunities available in

the world of work. With more than 40 exhibitors,

With so many options and information now available, Future choice planning can be a complicated the fair showcased employers such as Western Sussex NHS Trust, Coco’s Billingshurst, Thomas Keating Ltd and PMW Communications as well as further

and higher education institutions such as Northbrook College, Chichester College, Universities of Sussex, Brighton, Plymouth College of Art, Kent and Weald Sixth Form. Interactive session were held about apprenticeships, the importance of STEM careers and UCAS and student finance. Sarah Wilson, Careers and Work Experience Manager at The Weald said: “With so many options and information now available, Future choice planning can be a complicated process. We want to make it easy and engaging for all students. Along with support from us and their families, its important students take the opportunity to think about their future and take ownership of these big decisions early on.”

Victims of domestic abuse in West and East Sussex have an opportunity to give feedback on how they are treated. The spotlight will be on police and specialist support agencies who offer advice and counselling. And the move has been welcomed by the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner. A nationally-required survey is being led locally by Sussex Police, who will make the short confidential and anonymous on-line survey available to all victims. Detective Chief Inspector Ali Eaton, Sussex Police policy lead on domestic abuse issues, said: “There was a helpful previous such survey in Sussex, conducted by independent domestic advisory advisers, but the new nationally compliant survey, required by the Home Office, is a complete re-design and has now been set up as an online survey. “This is a valuable opportunity to increase our understanding of victims’ feelings and experiences to help us improve the service by the police and our partners. “We know how vitally important it is that victims of domestic abuse are supported as soon as they make a report to the police and then throughout every aspect of an investigation, and that everyone involved adapts what we do in order to provide specialist support as required. “It is only by providing the opportunity for victims to tell us about their experience – for example whether they are feeling supported and we are listening to what they are telling us - that we

can really assure ourselves that we are providing the best possible service. “We need to provide this opportunity in a secure and safe environment where the victim can fully reflect on their experience and feel confident their anonymised feedback will really make a difference. “The survey should take no longer than 10-15 minutes and all results will be kept strictly confidential. “Victims can complete the survey at any stage of a report or investigation, from first contact to post prosecution.” Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said: “It is crucial that the voices of survivors of domestic abuse are heard and any concerns they raise are recorded and properly acted upon if we are to improve their experience of our criminal justice system. “Statistics are extremely helpful when trying to gauge the scale of domestic abuse but they often cannot provide the full picture particularly when it comes to coercive and controlling behaviour.” For advice and support over domestic abuse in Sussex visit www. sussex.police.uk or call 101 or 01273 470101. We have specially trained officers who can help. If you are not confident in talking to the police, there are other organisations who can give you the confidential advice and support that you need at http://bit. ly/1WMI2Rc To find other local support and help near to you visit www.safespacesussex.org.uk

Carers Support West Sussex is to open its Carer Response Line The West Sussex charity, which provides support to more than 16,000 family and friend carers, will open the line from 10am - 12pm on Saturday mornings, following feedback from carers around the county. The move means the Carer Response Line, which provides information and support, will now be open: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday 9am – 7pm on Wednesdays 10am – 12pm on Saturdays Carers Support West Sussex Chief Executive, Jennie Musgrove, said: “The move to extend our Carer Response Line

opening hours to include Saturday mornings has been driven by Carer views and needs. “We know that, for many family and friend carers, it can be hard to find the time to call during the week because of work, family and caring commitments. We hope that by opening the line on a Saturday morning, it can give those carers an opportunity to call us at a time more convenient to them. Our services are already reaching carers in hospitals at the weekends, so this is a natural extension to make life a little easier for people.”

Harvesting knowledge for youngsters Youngsters discovered how food is produced as part of a Harvest Festival celebration. At Farlington School in Horsham the whole Prep School gave a musical and thought-provoking Harvest Festival assembly to a packed hall of family, friends and staff. There were colourful images, harvest harmonies and poignant poems, while the girls delivered their lines and lyrics with aplomb. Linking with the assembly theme this term, ‘The World of Work’, readings and poems led pupils to discover all about those who make our food, from farmers

to manufacturers, with clear messages, too, about eating healthily and conserving water. The food collected this year by the pupils will go to Crawley Open House, a charity which provides support and services for those suffering the effects of homelessness, unemployment, loneliness, discrimination or other forms of social exclusion. In addition, the children brought home a loose change collecting pot and these funds will be donated to the charity Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice caring for children and young adults with progressive life-shortening conditions.

Pumpkins and harvest goods

Anne Hardy, who oversees the Carer Communication Service, commented: “The Carer Response Line is a key part of what we offer and I’m delighted that we’re now able to extend to a Saturday morning, for the first time. There are in excess of 84,000 carers in West Sussex and this number is growing every year. We want to remove all barriers to carers getting the information and advice, which can so often help avoid a crisis later on”. Goodbye Harfields – and thank you! Business Martin Read Harfields Car Centre in Park Street in Horsham, a very longstanding and well respected independent business, sadly closed its doors on October 17 leaving Managing Director Alan Wells and staff with many fond memories. After starting out as a precision engineer and then running garages across Sussex, Alan developed the Harfields business with his wife Anne, continuing the name from the previous company at the premises. Alan told the District Post: “We’ve been blessed with some lovely loyal customers, a

number of whom have kindly called in to join former staff telling us that they’re sorry to see us go and I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has traded and worked with us, including employees who have gone on to make significant progress elsewhere in the industry. It’s been hard work, but very satisfying, too.” Rightly, Harfields have always prided themselves on being a vibrant contributor to the Horsham business community and have raised many thousands of pounds for local charities, notably through the Beaujolais Challenge organised by the British Racing & Sports Car Club, with whom Alan had long enjoyed membership.

The wide range of vehicles sold by Harfields were all sourced by Alan, thoroughly checked and serviced by H&S Motor Services of Redkiln Close, and latterly Horsham Motor Services at Parsonage Way, both in Horsham, Alan saying: “They were outstanding - I could never have done without them!” The vehicles were sold in pristine condition with an insured warranty. Alan, clearly a highly experienced professional, revelled in his job and provided a much appreciated local service, so why has Harfields closed? Alan says: “I’ve had one or two serious health issues and have quite a few birthdays under my belt, so perhaps its time to

decelerate for a while! But, the main reason is that the margins are so tight now. We’ve insisted on providing the best possible cars – they’re not cheap to obtain – buying is more difficult than selling! Preparing the cars is costly, too and we all like to get a bargain, so of course people scan the internet and many prefer to buy that way, but the cheapest often isn’t the best. I’ve had 45 years of motor trade experience, including over 30 years at Harfields, and when someone bought a car from Harfields I made sure that they were given proper advice and that they left entirely happy with their purchase, doing that gave me great satisfaction. And, in the extremely rare event of any subsequent difficulty then we’d do everything possible to sort it out for them in conjunction with the servicers. We never cut corners, but it is not really viable these days to include extensive service and warranties for free, especially with VAT, taxes and other business costs. I’ll certainly miss Harfields, but it’s the right time to move on into something else now.” What might that be? Understandably, Alan quips: “I’m going to have a rest until Christmas – I think I’ve earned that! Then I’ll see what I can do, I’m very well connected in the motor trade and it’s good to think that I might be able to put my knowledge to useful effect in the industry that I know and love.” The well known Harfields site is to be taken over by a car rental company.

Pure Bio supports local girl to The Pink Gift Fair help the children of Tanzania The first Pink Gift Fair at Roffey Park, near Horsham, in aid of Cancer Research UK, Brighton Laboratories and Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity, Billingshurst, was well received by shoppers and raised just under £8,000. Local girl Odette Hornby recently took part in Operation Raleigh in Tanzania. The trip involved spending 2 months working in the community and helping with water, sanitation and hygiene projects. Horsham based company Pure Bio Ltd (a leading supplier of nutritional supplements) helped sponsored Odette’s adventure. Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity. They work in remote, rural areas to improve access to safe water and sanitation and they wholeheartedly encourage young adults to work alongside local communities to promote lasting change. Odette said of the trip, “I would

like to say a huge thank you to Pure Bio. The trip was an amazing experience and created long lasting change in the communities we worked in. For the first 4 weeks I was involved in a water, sanitation and hygiene project. This involved creating an all-girls toilet block. In Tanzania nearly 80% of girls drop out of school when they hit puberty due to lack of hygiene and sanitation. The girls’ toilets at the school had no doors and were open for everyone to see and had very little hygiene. We also taught the villagers the importance of hand hygiene and washing hands after using the toilet and before preparing food. The next 3 weeks

Hounds for Heroes: Fund Raising Success at Mens Golf Section Slinfold Golf & Country Club was delighted to welcome Vice Chairman and Founder of Hounds for Heroes, Allen Parton, with labradors EJ and Rookie, to give a very moving speech at their Annual Mens Dinner Cup, last Saturday, where funds were being raised for this special charity. Hounds for Heroes provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women, of both the UK Armed Forces and Emergency Services.

Over £500 was raised on the night, adding to an already impressive £2,000, for Hounds For Heroes this year. This is combined £1,650 raised for Rainbow Trust, so far this year, by the club’s Mens Golf Section. Friends of the Home, including Chairman of Cranleigh Parish Council, Cllr Mary Foryszewski, members of the Royal British Legion, Cranleigh and trainee soldiers from The Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut, led by Lt. Mark Davies,

joined residents and staff in singing songs to mark the occasion. Resident, Peg Chamberlain, was presented with a pin to honour the time she spent as a Wren. Fittingly for the occasion, Christian Oldfield, a year 13 student from Cranleigh School, performed “The Last Post” bugle call. A representative of the care home explained: “Remembering, those from the Armed Forces, that have defended our Country, is very important to the residents of Cedar

Court - many of whom lost loved ones during times of conflict.” Lt. Mark Davies said: “It is a real honour to be invited here today to mark such an important event. This experience is invaluable to the young service men and women here today.” Cedar Court Care Home is located in Essex Drive, off Elmbridge Road, Cranleigh, Surrey GU6 8TX. The Good News, Is That It Looks Like Rain Horsham based creative team RMV Productions transported singer songwriter Tom Prior back to the 80s, when they produced the inaugural video from his first full length studio album. Filmed at Gun Hill Studio in Sussex, the video for the new song, ‘Looks Like Rain’, sees Tom in character as an anchorman newsreader, joined by a beautiful blonde co-host and a cheeky weatherman with a hidden talent for disco dancing. Pete Reeve, Managing and Creative Director of RMV Productions elaborates; “Initially I had two ideas that I pitched to Tom. One involved a choreographed dance routine in water, with Tom surrounded by a waterfall as he sang the song and two very wet dancers dancing to it. The second was the newsroom concept, which Tom instantly loved. The idea itself stems from the song title - ‘Looks Like Rain’ - which sounds like a weather report. This in turn led to the news program idea, but I thought it would be fun to give it a

retro 1980’s/Anchorman twist. “I loved the idea of contrasting a comic video with such an honest and heartfelt song. The juxtaposition of what you’re seeing on screen compared to the sincerity of the lyrics is why it works so well.” The RMV Productions team worked quickly to deliver the project; the initial pitch through to editing and the final cut took just 6 weeks. Feedback from Tom Prior, his management team and record company has been extremely positive. Pete Reeve continues; “Tom was great to work with and we think he did a fantastic job, as he’d never done anything quite like this before. Playing his straightfaced news reader character perfectly, he said he had a great time filming and is looking forward to collaborating with us again in the near future.” ‘Looks like Rain’ is released on 4 November 2016 and is the first single from Tom Priors new album, The Sunday Scene, out on Island Records

Roy Wood Big Band Xmas Show Special

Roy Wood and his Rock ‘n’ Roll Band are bringing their unmissable Christmas Show Special to The Hawth Crawley on Monday 12 December. They will be performing all his classic hits, ‘I Can Hear The Grass Grow’, ‘Flowers In The Rain’, ‘Blackberry Way’, ‘California Man’, ‘See My Baby Jive’, ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ and many more. Roy Wood was born in Birmingham. Influenced by Hank Marvin’s sound, he started playing the guitar and formed a group called The Falcons at the age of fourteen. At seventeen,

Roy became founder of The Move who went on to enjoy multiple chart successes with songs all written by Roy himself, including top 5 hit singles ‘Flowers In The Rain’ (which reached No. 2 in the charts, and was the first record to be played on BBC Radio One), ‘Night Of Fear’, ‘Fire Brigade’ and ‘I Can Hear The Grass Grow ‘ and number one record in the British singles chart ‘Blackberry Way’. In 1970, Roy teamed up with fellow Birmingham songwriter, Jeff Lynne, who joined The Move for their final two albums. The final single recorded, by The Move, during this period was ‘California

Man’. For a number of years, it had been Roy’s ambition to form a classically based band featuring live strings, instead of the conventional guitar line up. Working with Jeff, The Electric Light Orchestra was born. Roy eventually formed the rock n roll style pop band ‘Wizzard’, together with long-time friend, Rick Price, bassist with The Move. The band went on to score seven major hit records, including two number one singles, ‘See My Baby Jive’ and ‘Angel Fingers’. These were followed by one of the biggest Christmas anthems of all time, ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’. The Xmas Show Special also features support act, The Vals, who are a well-travelled ‘60sinfluenced pop band from Belfast. The band were recently invited by Paul Weller to join him as special guests for his European tour, playing alongside the Modfather from Brussels to Berlin. During that period The Vals released the LP ‘Wildflower Way’ to much acclaim, winning best album at the Galaxy Awards, London, and showcasing their music on radio and television across Europe, the UK and Ireland. In recent years, the band have shared the stage with Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac), The Zombies, Jeff Beck, Ocean Colour Scene, Echo and the Bunnymen and more. Performance: Mon 12 December 2016, 7.30pm, The Hawth Theatre. Tickets: £30, available from The Hawth Box Office: 01293 553636 or online: hawth.co.uk

Christmas Gothic Dyad Productions are making a return visit to The Hawth Studio this December, with a new production, ‘Christmas Gothic’. With Christmas around the corner, it is a time to remember the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future; a time of feasts and festivities; of holly and mistletoe; a time of visits and visitations. It is also a time of ghosts. Come in from the cold and enter into the Christmas spirit, as a dark and spectral woman tells haunting tales of the festive season, lighting a candle to the frailties of human nature and illuminating the cold and chilling depths of the bleak, wintry dark... Following the international touring success that was Female Gothic, Dyad Productions resurrects a Victorian tradition, by presenting three seasonal tales of terror, to scintillate the gooseflesh for dark Christmas nights. This dark celebration of Christmas is adapted and performed by Rebecca Vaughan and directed by Elton Townend Jones. Performance: Saturday 3 December 2016, 7.45pm, The Hawth Studio. Tickets: £15 (discounts £13), available from The Hawth Box Office: 01293 553636 or online: hawth.co.uk

Hawks winning start continues Junior Basketball Hawks U16’s recorded back to back wins in their second league game of the season at home to Worthing D&D Dazzlers. Following a 3 week break Hawks showed no sign of rustiness opening with a spell of flowing passing basketball initiated by Josh Raby excellent shooting from Jamie Miller who contributed 8 of their first 14 points. Hawks tough defence stifled Dazzlers limiting them to a meagre 4 points in the first 5 minutes. The visitors tried to limit Hawks

but Morgan Hamilton converted under the boards at the beginning of Q2 to keep the scoreboard ticking over. James Maclean then hit a purple patch scoring 4 out of 5 buckets before Miller again converted to close the half with Hawks up 32 - 19. Q3 was Hawks highest scoring spell of the game amassing 21 points with Miller, Dishington and Maclean continuing their effective work while Kieran Lee found space to drive inside on a number of occasions. Ollie Hut showed his athleticism with an outstanding take and put back followed by

a nice mid-range shot to extend Hawks lead to 53 -32 going into the final period. Dazzlers put on a ‘spirited’ Halloween fight back in the final period as Hawks struggled to find their normal offensive fluency. However Miller continued with his scoring touch and Jamie Atkins put in another good display scoring midway through the period. Raby concluded the scoring as Hawks ran out comfortable winners 62 – 47. Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Lynda Robins and Denise Sackett for the 7th and 16th holes respectively.

Horsham defeated by late Oxford goals Will Palmer buzzing after taking Freddie Campbell equalised for Horsham

Photo by Nick Evans South League – Premier – Division 1 Horsham Men’s 1st XI 3 5 Oxford Hawks Hockey Martin Read - Sports Reporter

Horsham dropped four places to seventh in a tightly bunched table – just two points separating eight of the 12 clubs in the league – after the sides were two goals apiece at the break and Horsham’s opportunity to take the lead in the second half went begging. Earlier in the season Horsham lost 4-5 at Oxford in the Senior Cup after being well placed and the league match followed a similar path. Relaxed Horsham marking allowed the visitors to score in the third minute but John Burroughs restored parity after breaking through on the left to slot home. Horsham maintained pressure but Oxford retook the lead in a goal mouth melee. Again Horsham responded positively, Vice-Captain Freddie Campbell equalising from a short corner. But, nine minutes into the second half an Oxford strike eluded prone Horsham keeper Andy Isaacs, only for Hor-

sham to draw level again with another Campbell input. 25 minutes into the second session a Horsham goal was disallowed – the umpire was being assessed and admitted his mistake post-match - and then the penalty, awarded in lieu of the goal, was missed. An Isaacs dive kept Oxford at bay and Burroughs shot wide until the Hawks banged home a well-taken short corner and then repeated the dose two minutes later to win 3-5 when another set piece blast evaded Isaacs’ grasp just ahead of the final whistle. A hat trick by Oxford’s Jack Biggs cemented his position as leading scorer in the league. Horsham Team Manager Al Campbell told the District Post: “We had that game won but lost it after letting in soft goals. Very frustrating!” Tomorrow (Saturday) Horsham travel to current runners up London Edwardians, who beat Banbury last week.

a F1 McLaren around Silverstone Motor Sport Dave Snith - Sports Editor Will Palmer successfully completed his run in a McLaren Formula 1 car at Silverstone as part of his prize for winning last year’s McLaren Autosport BRDC Award (MABA), and declared it something that he will remember “for the rest of his life.” The 19-year-old 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion took to the circuit in Jenson Button’s 2011 Canadian Grand Prix-winning McLaren MP4-26 and completed a trio of five-lap runs on slick Pirelli tyres. The Southwater racer said: “The nerves were pretty high. It was absolutely incredible, like nothing I’ve ever done before.

The power, the brakes, the downforce - and just how together the car seemed. It’s unbelievable how much of a step up it was. Palmer impressed the title-winning F1 outfit, with McLaren simulator test engineer Alice Rowlands commenting that Will should be “very happy” with his maiden run in a Grand Prix car. Palmer, who recently scored his maiden win in European racing by claiming victory in the penultimate round of the 2016 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season at Estoril, saw off five other rivals to win the prestigious MABA last year, after being selected as a finalist following his BRDC F4 title success.

Junior Football Round Up Horsham Sparrows Women 2 – 2 Pagham Women An excellent refereeing performance contributed to a very entertaining 2-2 draw, played in terrific spirit by both teams. Pagham, took the lead with a well taken header midway through the first half, with Sparrows missing one on ones 4 times in the first period. A change of fortune in the second half saw Sparrows work

hard to take the lead with goals from Naomi and Molly, but in the last 5 minutes Pagham equalised from the spot after a foul in the area. The spot kick was almost saved by Daisy but just crept in the corner. Barnham U18 1 – 1 Roffey United U18 Despite going behind early on to Richard Mallock’s long range shot, Roffey had the bulk of the

her age group. Their equaliser came just after the break when Ben Gibbs’ corner was drilled home by Nick Cranston. Roffey created enough opportunities to win the match but were denied by solid Barnham defending and inaccurate shooting. Glossop, Barker and Longhurst were all guilty of firing wide of the target. The best chance, however, came in the dying minutes when Roffey were awarded a penalty. Luckily for the home side Cranston’s spot kick was saved.

Horsham errors concede defeat to Dartfordians Will Johnson’s try failed to secure a Horsham win

lapse from the visitors enabled Jordan Smith to cross the line, converted by Will Bell, following which the home lead was stretched to 10-3 by Bell’s place kick. Horsham then conceded penalties but it was a Darts try and conversion that levelled the score. Both defences worked well but two more successful penalty kicks gave Darts a six point

advantage at the break. But, Horsham responded vigorously with repeated forays, culminating in an unconverted Will Johnson try on the left, only for another penalty to give the Darts three more points. The Darts then immediately increased their lead, getting through the Horsham defence and subsequently kicking over. Horsham, though, kept pressing to earn a maximised Ollie Harker try, Will Bell obliging with the kick. Darts were then reduced to 14 men as a result of an illegal tackle but further penalties extended their advantage ahead of a late Andy Gray try for Horsham under the posts to reduce the deficit but leave Horsham rueing the persistent lapses in concentration that enabled Dartfordians to take the game 27-35 and move up to second in the table. Horsham Head Coach Nick Stocker told the District Post: “This was a frustrating defeat – we scored some great tries but gave the ball away too cheaply, missed some kicks and gifted them 18 points through penalties.” Old Alleynians host Horsham on Dulwich Common tomorrow (Saturday) – OA’s are 7th after beating bottom club Crowborough last week.

Good Heath performance halts high flyers United Heath had a number of chances to add to the score

YM given a fright by Hassocks SCFL - Premier Division Horsham YMCA 3 - 2 Hassocks Football Dave Snith - Sports Editor Hassocks arrived with an awful history of results against Horsham YMCA at Gorings Mead having only won twice in the last 24 years on their visits. They also arrived with 8 first choice players missing so YM would have been looking for a comfortable victory. But it was far from comfortable for the home side – although they were clearly the better side throughout - as they found themselves 2 goals down within 15 minutes. With 10 minutes gone a static YM defence was made to pay when following a one two on the edge of the area Hassocks midfielder Mark Price fired in a shot that YM ‘keeper Lewis Blaney saved but couldn’t hold and as the home defence stood and watched Price followed up his own effort to tap home the loose ball for 1-0. Five minutes later and YM were 2 goals adrift when Lewis Westlake’s shot took a deflection to

wrong foot Blaney. Although playing the better football YM had it all to do but they responded well by pulling a goal back within 5 minutes. Ex Hassocks player Phil Johnson punished his old team when he was allowed time and space to beat James Broadbent in the visitor’s goal from close range. It was Johnson again who pounced on some slack play at the back to power through on goal and score with seconds of the first half remaining and to give his team parity at the break. The second half was all YM and they should have gone ahead early on when the excellent Broadbent superbly saved Johnson’s penalty, denying the striker his hattrick. As YM launched wave upon wave of attacks on the Hassocks defence a combination of goal line clearances and ‘keeper Broadbent’s skill looked to be securing an unlikely draw. The resilience was finally broken however with 10 minutes left on the clock. After a dangerous free kick was only half cleared, Max Howell fired the ball back through a packed penalty area to beat the unsighted Broadbent and secure YM the 3 points.

Keeper Michael Chester clears the danger

Full steam ahead with Boro’s seventh straight win London 3 South East Pulborough 41 - 21 Old Dunstonians Rugby Martin Read - Sports Reporter Photos by Gary Chester SCFL - Premier Division Broadbridge Heath 1 - 0 Eastbourne United Football Andy Crisp - BBHFC Heath manager Steve Painter was disappointed with his team’s performance in their last match against leaders Shoreham and was hoping for a much improved performance when joint leaders Eastbourne United visited the Leisure Centre on Saturday. Painter was able to welcome back Piers McDermott to the starting line-up but injuries to Joe Holvey and Tiago Andrade meant bringing in Rob Godfrey at fullback and striker Timmy Martin. Heath started well and almost scored in the 2nd minute of play when a Martin left wing cross was met at the far post by a powerful Dean Wright header and the

keeper did brilliantly to push the ball up onto the bar and out to safety; from the resulting corner the ball fell to Andy Howard but the defender slashed his effort wide of the post. The visitors, who had only lost one league match this season, had their first attempt at goal in the 8th minute when former Horsham striker Bailo Camara tried his luck from distance and then a well-executed bicycle kick from Liam Baitup looked good for the spectators; both efforts however failed to bother ‘keeper Michael Chester. With 15 minutes gone Martin again cut in from the left and hit a right foot shot that crashed against the cross bar and came out to Rob Godfrey who rifled a right foot shot from 18 yards that took a deflection on its way to goal, 1-0 to Heath. Heath continued to push forward and twice Ollie Moore came close

with shots from distance that went just wide of the target. In the second period again it was Heath who created the better openings. Jake Holmes broke away down the right cut inside and hit a right foot shot that Phil Hawkins saved brilliantly and minutes later the keeper was in action again to save from Tim Martin. Midway through the half Martin broke away down the right and pulled the ball back to Jake Holmes who hit a curling shot that once again rattled the woodwook. For the visitors Camara was looking a class player down the left and causing the Heath defence a few problems, Forcing Chester into another good save with 20 minutes remaining. In the closing minutes the visitors put the Heath defence under a lot of pressure in search of the equaliser but Painters side held on to the points.

Pulborough, the only unbeaten team in the league, delivered another strong win – their seventh from as many starts, putting them six points clear of Thanet Wanderers at the top of the table. Old Dunstonians are worthy opponents, scoring three good converted tries in the first half and remained very much in the game at half time, but, Boro’s superior fitness, ball retention and patience saw them through for another telling victory. Barney Reed, Harry Scrase, former Captain Richard Nicholls, Henry Lee and full back Frazer Oliphant-Hope all scored tries for Boro, Frazer converting four out of six in addition to kicking a penalty. Ebullient Boro Head Coach Clayton Saunders told

the District Post: “This was another tough game, Old Ds again demonstrating why their ‘points for’ record is so good. We played a waiting game and gradually wore them down to win comfortably enough in the end - our tactics enabling us to average six tries a game.” Tomorrow (Saturday) Boro

This was another tough game, Old Ds again demonstrating why their ‘points for’ record is so good travel to Ashford. The Kent side were beaten 44-17 by Gillingham Anchorians last week and are marooned at the bottom of the table, still without a point and suffering a horrendous points scoring difference.

The sides are in equivalent leagues with similar placings, suggesting a close encounter. But, Romford looked far better on the day, the pre match announcement

about replay arrangements proving unfounded. Early skirmishes culminated in a second Romford corner, Chinedu McKenzie scrambling the ball over to give the visitors the lead in the 13th minute. A long injury delay followed after which Horsham striker Terry Dodd was taken by ambulance to Worthing Hospital with a potentially serious knee problem. Tony Nwachukwu came on as substitute and embarked on a solo run but shot over the bar. Then, a failed Horsham clearance allowed McKenzie through to blaze Romford further ahead, swiftly fol-

lowed by a screamer hitting the top right corner of the post with busy Horsham keeper Josh Pelling at full stretch. Horsham finally woke up with a series of attacks suddenly creating pressure before Romford were reduced to ten men following a deliberate trip, but despite corners at either end, Horsham were two nil down at half time. Soon after the resumption Horsham substitute Scott Kirkwood’s free kick was pushed over the bar by Romford keeper Callum Chafer only for McKenzie to latch onto a miss-pass, run the length of the pitch and blast home, notch-

Jolyon makes up ground to finish well Jolyon Palmer battled from the back at the Mexican Grand Prix

Formula 1 Dave Snith - Sports Editor

Renault Sport Formula One Team’s Southwater based Jolyon Palmer put in a strong and strategic charge from the back of the grid to take fourteenth place in the Gran Premio de México. Palmer started P21 due to

missing the Saturday qualifying because of a crack being discovered in his car’s chassis, rendering Jolyon unable to participate in the session. Palmer made a pit stop under the safety car at the end of the first lap. This meant he used Pirelli’s medium compound tyres for a massive 70-lap stint. Palmer’s team mate Kevin Mag-

nussen started from P14 and his race strategy was modified from a one to a two-stop strategy, with a final stint on the super soft tyres. A smiling Jolyon Palmer commented after the race, “I think fourteenth is as good as we could have got from starting at the back, so I’m happy! I had some really good fights with the McLaren guys, which was good fun, and 70 laps on one set of tyres is probably some sort of record. It was a bit of a challenge but in the end we were still going okay; we were quick enough to keep our competitors behind. All in all, I’m pretty happy with today.” Renault Sport Team Principal Fred Vasseur praised Palmer, saying, “Jolyon had a strong race where we made the most of an aggressive strategy and pitted him very early under the safety car. He drove 70 laps on the same set of tyres and was very consistent to finish in front of some of our nearest rivals. It was a very strong race for him. Next up for Palmer and his Renault Team is the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo on the weekend of November 11-13.

ing up an impressive, well-taken hat trick. With the game lost Dan Sackman got a consolation goal for Horsham, crashing in a Lee Carney free kick. Although Horsham then fought hard and had chances, Romford’s defence held secure to run out worthy winners, unhappy Horsham Manager Dom di Paola telling the District Post: “We just didn’t turn up today. Their centre forward McKenzie scored three good goals but we gave him so much room, making him look better than he should have been. It was a disappointing Horsham display and I can’t really say anything positive about it.” Horsham return to league action with a home game against 11th placed Faversham tomorrow (Saturday), and then on Tuesday evening, November 8, they travel to Newhaven for a Sussex Senior Cup Round 2 tie.

The journey down to Eastbourne is a familiar one this season for Horsham YMCA, having already travelled down 3 times to play Town’s rivals United. It was an away victory over United in round 2 that set up this third round clash and like all their previous ‘Eastbourne’ cup visits this season YM came away as victors and progress into the next round. YM got off to a good start and their early good play was rewarded by the opening goal after 15 minutes; Sam Schaaf beating Town ‘keeper Louis Rogers to give his side the lead. The game then evened out with both sides having chances to add to the score but both defences remained firm and YM took the slender advantage into the break. Just after the hour the home side got themselves back into the match when Dan Rogers grabbed an equalising goal. YM have been involved in three matches involving extra time in their cup exploits so far this season and pushed for the winner to prevent the added half hour. The visitors got their just reward in the 79th minute when Max Howell put YM back in front and it was a lead that they held until the final whistle to take away another Tuesday night cup win from Eastbourne.

Heath into Semi-finals after victory at Loxwood SCFL Peter Bentley Cup Loxwood 0 - 2 Broadbridge Heath Football Andy Crisp - BBHFC Loxwood’s ten game unbeaten run came to an end on Tuesday night when local rivals Broadbridge Heath came away from Plaistow Road with a 2-0 win that sees them through to the semi-final of the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup. Heath started the match at a fast pace with Tim Martin and Jamal Sultan both causing problems down the flanks. On 15 minutes Heath took the lead when Sultan broke away down the right and interchanged passes with Rob Godfrey and it ended with Godfrey cutting in and curling a left foot shot into the far side of the goal. Things got even better for Heath just 4 minutes later when Ollie Moore was brought down just outside the penalty area and Tiago Andrade rifled the free kick over the wall into

the net giving Heath a deserved 2-0 half-time lead. Two early injuries failed to stop Heaths momentum – both Piers McDermott and Tim Martin limped off – as they continued to create the better chances with Marlon Maxwell heading just over the bar. Weller then hit the post and substitute Jake Holmes had his effort blocked by the Loxwood keeper. Loxwood pressed forward late in the game but were restricted to shots from distance which keeper Michael Chester dealt with quite comfortably and Heath could have wrapped it up in the closing minutes when Holmes shot just wide of the far post. The final whistle signalled an excellent win for Heath who started the game with 8 players who had come through the youth setup, 5 of whom started at the club aged 7. In the semi-final Heath will play the winners of the Haywards Heath/Eastbourne United match.
