My team and I look forward to welcoming brides-to-be and their family and friends to our shop and sharing in the excitement of that all important dress shopping!” St Catherine’s bridal shop is located at 6 The Bishopric, Horsham, RH12 1QR and is open for browsing between 9.30am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Christ’s Hospital Leavers’ Ball

On the last night of the School year and to mark the end of the exam period at Christ’s Hospital, the leaving Grecians (Year 13 pupils) celebrated in style with the customary leavers’ ball which, this year, followed a Great Gatsby themed

evening. Following a drinks reception in the Head Master’s garden, the pupils moved to Big School, which had been beautifully decorated for the occasion, to dine and dance the night away.

Weald students celebrate leavers’ prom on the Thames Year 11 Weald students marked another successful year, by celebrating their annual leavers’ prom on Thursday 29 June by cruising down the River Thames on the Erasmus boat. Students looked fabulous in their attire as they arrived in a variety of vehicles, including limousines and sports cars. They travelled up to London, via coach, passing the many historical sites before being dropped off at Blackfriars Pier. On entrance to the boat, they were greeted with complimentary, non-alcoholic, drinks and a delicious buffet. Both students and staff danced the night away in the disco until the early hours of Friday morning. The highlight of the night was Mr Woodman’s solo dance performance to ‘When the going gets tough’ by Billy Ocean. On the open top deck of the boat, Big Ben, London Bridge and the London Eye were all clearly visibleand looked beautiful when lit up in the night sky. As always, students were a credit to the school and crew complimented staff on how well they behaved. The school issued a statement to wish all its leavers: “the best of luck in all they decide to pursue in the future, whether it be continuing onto Sixth Form or going to college.”

At Care UK, we are always looking at ways of showing our support for charities... A care home in Horsham raised over £120 when it took part in a nationwide event, Cupcake Day, to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. The residents and team members, at Skylark House care home on St Marks Lane, came prepared with stirring spoons and piping bags, as they got busy in the kitchen, baking a variety of tasty treats to raise money for a good

cause. Relatives and guests visiting the home were invited to enjoy a leisurely cuppa with residents, along with the homemade cakes – all of which were available for a small donation to Alzheimer’s Society. The team at Skylark House also took to the streets of Horsham, where they visited nearby businesses, including Budgens, Busy Bees Nursery,

Cantatrice Sell-Out Show Steyning Ladies Choir (a name which sounds rather formal and which is far from the case!) staged a totally mad, entertaining, uplifting show on Saturday 1 July at the Steyning Centre, which took the audience on a musical journey from the 1900 to the present day. Marching into the hall to the five piece band & Gary Prior on the piano, the performance went from Oldtime Music Hall, led by Linda Jordan, through folksong, to Charleston (dancers!) and a reading from Audrey Corke. The War era was represented in ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’ moving swiftly into ‘In the Mood’ and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Four hysterical ladies from the choir performed a short sketch and, finishing the first half, the audience were taught the accompanying parts and tune to ‘How much is that Doggie in the window’. Drinks and ‘Fish n’ Chips in the interval gave time for the ladies to re

charge there batteries (& voices) for the second half and they were off to the musicals, with a medley from West Side Story, a Dean Martin favourite ‘Sway’, the title and hit song from the musical ‘Fame’ and the beatles classic ‘Penny Lane’. A couple of Pam Ayers funnies from Barbie and Stella gave the chance for the dancers to change into their Saturday Night Fever gear to dance to a great arrangement by one of the band members, Paul Newton. Well on their way now, the choir moved on to film and sang ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire, the Eliza Doolittle pop song ‘Pack up your troubles’ (soloist Bryony Prior) with the audience and finally, the choir slipped back into the ‘60s for their final song ‘ You can’t stop the beat’, which just about summed up the energy and vitality of the whole evening: Wonderful, eclectic and (with the capacity audience cheering at the end and adding to it) a buzzing atmosphere.

charities and the local community, and we are delighted that we were able to raise awareness for a very worthwhile cause. “Overall it was a great success, and we were thrilled to visit so many of our neighbours to offer up the homemade cakes that the residents had spent time baking. We also want to give a special thank you to relative, Lesley Irvine, for her Malteser fridge cake, which was a big hit!”

Young women scoop top three craft awards at 50th South of England Show Ranganathan (who used to be a teacher at Hazelwick School in Crawley), special guest who presented the overall winners with their awards, commented: “It’s really nice to see the local students here today. What used to frustrate me, as a teacher, was when kids,

This year has been notable in the quality and diversity of the entries Three young Sussex women scooped gold, silver and bronze in this year’s Young Craftsman of the Year competition at the 50th South of England Show and were presented with their awards by celebrity comedian Romesh Ranganathan last month. 20-year-old Mahum Bahti, from Camelia Botnar Foundation in Cowfold, the first woman, in 30 years of the awards, to be crowned winner for her superb glass-fronted cabinet, was presented her prize by celebrity comedian Romesh Ranganathan. Having discovered her talent for

cabinetmaking very recently, Mahum wowed the judging panel this year with her beautiful workmanship and the passion she put into her piece. 17-year- old Allegra Cook, from Burgess Hill School for Girls, won silver for her imaginative and colourful African inspired dress, coming a very close second. 16-year- old Alisha Gent from Forest Row School of Ceramics took bronze for her Mad Hatters Tea Party themed ceramic display, with a tea set and ceramic Mad Hatter bust. Crawley lad, comedian Romesh

who were academic, overshadowed those who were practical or creative, so it’s nice to see some recognition for students who think outside the box!” Visitors to the South of England Show at Ardingly, which took place on 8, 9 & 10 June, were able to see Mahum’s winning piece along with all the other entries in the Young Craftsman of the Year marquee. Mahum Bahti said: “I can’t believe it! I am really grateful to the Camelia Botnar Foundation who have helped me so much. When I joined the Foundation, I hadn’t done anything like this before and they

have really mentored me.” Mahum plans to put her £1000 prize money towards new tools and perhaps to treat herself to some clothes as a reward. This competition is at the heart of the South of England Show and demonstrates skills, diversity and technical expertise across five categories: wood, metal including jewellery, textiles, ceramics and design and technology. The judging panel considered the concept, design, use of materials, artistic merit, function, proportion, technical skill and finish, and of course ultimately the winning pieces had to have that ‘wow’ factor. Said Sarah Peay, Committee Chairman: “We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Young Craftsman of the Year competition, as well as the 50th anniversary of the South of England Show, and we are delighted to have received so many entries from youngsters aged 14-21 years, who live or study in Berkshire, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent and Surrey. Since 1987, we have received over 3,600 entries. “This year has been notable in the quality and diversity of the entries; I never cease to be amazed by the inventiveness, dedication, detail, technical skill and potential, and of course the craftsmanship displayed.”

Highwood Mill Garden Party – Starring the Rockabellas! On Thursday 22 June, more than 120 people attended a Garden Party at Highwood Mill. Many residents, at the development for over 55s (set in the prestigious Highwood Estate), attended the event and brought their guests and families along for an afternoon of food, drinks and music provided by the Rockabellas. From ‘Candyman’ by Sammy Davis Jr. to ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ by Frank Sinatra, the Rockabellas covered everything at the vintagethemed event. It was a lovely social occasion; the band sang Happy Birthday to resident, Beryl, who turned 90, and there were smiles all around. Creepy Crawly Day at Warnham Nature Reserve Each year, The Friends of Warnham Local Nature Reserve host a Creepy Crawly Day - a highly popular event for children of all ages. This year’s event saw over ninety children take part in searches for mini-beasts, following either of two trails, trying pond dipping and even designing their own bugs, caterpillars and beetles! Local MP, Jeremy Quin, dropped by during the afternoon and is pictured with James and Isobel, their parents and two of the reserve’s volunteers.

after them. In addition to lots of young bear cubs who play all day on a specially designed playground, the Museum has a 100 year old Steiff – Toby - who is looking after the campers. One bear, whose owner passed away a few years ago, had lived with her since she was a child. To help this bear remember her, the Museum has blown up a photograph of her with her pet cat. Being so aged, he cannot cope with the raucous fun and frolics of the younger bears, so sits on his own but is furry happy indeed to see the public. Also on display are a Jewish bear, an Egyptian bear with a camel skin nose, and a couple of small bears who have been together since their owners married. There are giant bears, three feet tall, and tiny bears, only one inch high. The Horsham bear designer, Andy West, has allowed five of his more excitable bears to come to the camp, to get them out of his hair whilst he looks after others at his home.

It’s humid, sticky and if you are covered in fur, it is ‘too darn hot’! Horsham Museum, with bearly a paws for thought, felt rather sorry for the bears of Horsham, so have thrown open their doors for a teddy bear holiday camp. What they didn’t expect was that over 40 bears would take up the offer, along with the museum’s own collection of bears, who have moved from a store to join in. Now the museum has a room full of bears, who can bear-ly contain their excitement being on holiday together. However, knowing that bears might miss out on human company, the holiday camp is open to human visitors from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Whilst marmalade sandwiches are a favourite for a Peruvian bear, and honey is loved by a certain bear from Ashdown Forest, the Museum has asked humans not to feed them, as they have taken expert advice from one of this country’s leading authorities, Sue Pearson, on how to look

The bears are having so much fun at the camp that they are not bothering to read the brief history of the bears and their makers. Nor have they read the extracts of a brilliant report by two vets on diseases of Teddy Bears – or to give their scientific name Brunus edwardii. Fortunately, most of the bears at the camp do not seem to suffer with the range of illnesses written about in the learned paper. This detailed report has rarely been seen by the public, only appearing in the academic press, and gives the visitor an insight into the illnesses that inflict the poor Teddy, from soggy ears to lopsided eyes. As you will have gathered, Making Summer Bearable at Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum is a fun exhibition celebrating over 100 years of Teddy Bears. Free to humans and bears alike, it is a great way to make summer bearable. Horsham Museum & Art Gallery would like to thank all the bears for coming along and their owners/guardians for allowing their furry companions a holiday and making it such a great exhibition. The exhibition runs from 8 July until 2 September 2017. For further information, please contact Julie Poole, Assistant Curator. Horsham Museum and Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday 10-5pm. Home away from home

Between June 19 and 25, hundreds of boarding school pupils took part in the largest celebration of boarding ever held in the UK. As part of its golden jubilee, the Boarding Schools’ Association revived National Boarding Week after a gap of over 20 years. Independent girls’ day and boarding school, Farlington School, in Horsham, released one mother’s take on the boarding experience: A parent’s view of boarding We had always planned to send our daughters to State schools, boarding was never seriously considered although always a possibility. As our home posting date got closer, my husband came back from Bangalore to secure two places at a school close to our new home in Horsham, West Sussex. It was all going to plan until we found out one week before our return

than there was only place for one of our girls. We had to quickly find a school; finding places for two girls aged 10 and 8 in June, less than a month before schools closed was not an easy challenge. As the girls had only experienced small international schools, sometimes with as few as 5 other students in a class, we were keen to find a school where they could acclimatise gradually to their new life in the UK. So we quickly researched online schools near to our new home and found one that seemed to match all of our needs, Farlington. It ticked all of our boxes, an all-girls school from Nursery and Prep through to Upper Sixth with impressive academic, music, drama and sports facilities and a wide range of extracurricular activities. The school was incredibly accommodating, they replied immediate-

ly to our emails seeking a place and within 24 hours of arriving home, the girls were enjoying a taster day. They loved it, we signed up and they started their new school that September. It is hard to believe now that in less than a week we had found a school, secured places, tried it out and signed up! Farlington is primarily a day school but has excellent boarding facilities. Being close to home, the girls were able to spend their first four years as day students. The girls have built their own friendship groups, inside and outside of school, with the confidence of having their parents around to help them during those occasional tough days. They started boarding last September; like all parents we were dreading it. But knowing the school, the teachers and the other students meant this was a fairly painless experience for the girls. The boarding and medical staff have also been exceptional, assuring us through their attention to detail and their caring manner that our girls are in good hands. The girls have just finished their first full year of boarding. Of course we have had a few tears, but overall they have both really enjoyed it. They are constantly busy and with modern technology, we are only a WhatsApp message or a Facetime call away. They spent half-term and Christmas with us in Caracas and while they enjoyed the sunshine, they were keen at the end of the holidays to get back to their friends and their home away from home.

2017 Nuffield Research Placements Scheme

Congratulations to three Christ’s Hospital Year 12 pupils for securing places on the 2017 Nuffield Research Placements Scheme. These placements provide a fantastic experience for wouldbe scientists to develop skills and knowledge prior to attending University. This is a very well regarded scheme and the application and selection process is very competitive. The three CH pupils will now spend part of their summer holidays as Nuffield research scholars, working alongside professional scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians (STEM subjects). TV and Radio’s Jenni Falconer and Horsham vets support Pet Parasite Action campaign

Throughout June and July hundreds of vet practices up and down the country, including Hawthorn vets, Horsham, are backing the Pet Parasite Action campaign to encourage people to help protect their pet (and their family) against harmful parasites inside and out. The campaign is supported by TV and Radio presenter Jenni Falconer: “As a dog owner and a mum I want to be sure I do the best thing for my pet and my family. During the Pet Parasite Action campaign, I’m encouraging all pet owners to visit their vet for a simple way to help protect their pet against parasites inside and out, including those that might be harmful to rest of the family. Let’s act now to protect all the members of our family, furry or otherwise.” After conducting a nationwide survey of over 1000 dog owners, Pet Parasite Action says the findings confirm that dogs are important members of the family and most owners say that losing their pet would be devastating. The most important reason for owning a pet is to keep active but other reasons, such as non-judgemental love and an ability to give comfort, become more important across the regions.* The survey also discovered that 85 per cent of us happily hug our dogs and the majority let their dog sleep on their bed, sit on their sofa or lap, lick their faces and give them kisses. But 28 per cent said they have found parasites on carpets, 26 per cent have spotted a parasite on themselves and a shocking four per cent have even

found one on their child. Despite this, over a third of people say they never think about the parasites their pet might be hosting when they hug them. When it comes to pet parasites, most dog owners don’t have an accurate view of which are the most risky to them or their family. It’s lungworm that worries owners most, with 74% saying it is the pet parasite they are most concerned about, with the only exceptions being the North East, where fleas were the most concerning parasite, and Scotland, where ticks were of equal concern. While 82% of dog owners are able to correctly identify that lungworm could be fatal to their pets, 43% say they think dog lungworm is the parasite that poses the greatest risk to human health, when actually it’s harmless to people. Furthermore, despite concern about its effects, 23% say that they don’t know when their pet was last treated for lungworm. This is worrying because cases of this deadly parasite are increasing, and spreading throughout the country into previously unaffected areas. Just 48% realise that ticks can cause fatalities in dogs, because they can transmit diseases, such as babesiosis. Only 28% recognise that ticks (as a transmitter of Lyme disease in people) are a risk to human health. Ticks should be a concern to pet owners, because the threat from this parasite to pets and people is growing: in recent years there has been an increase in tick numbers across the UK, due to changing weather patterns and an increasing popu-

lation of deer, which host ticks. A recent study showed 1 in 3 dogs is infested with ticks. The least worried about parasite is probably one of the most concerning. Just 15% say they are most worried about roundworms and a mere 7% correctly say they think it could threaten human health. Yet, if accidentally eaten, eggs from the roundworm Toxocara pose a significant threat to human health, potentially causing blindness or neurological disease – especially in children. One in four people don’t realise that their pet could have parasites, but they might not be visible, as is often the case with lungworms, hard to find ticks and microscopic roundworm eggs. Around 1 in 6 say that it’s been about a year since they last treated their pet for ticks, lungworm or roundworms. The benefits of pet ownership are considerable and pet owners do not need to be alarmed. They just need to be aware of the risks of parasites and the fact that simple, regular treatment will help to reduce these risks for all. During the Pet Parasite Action campaign throughout June and July, dog and cat owners, in and around Horsham, can contact Hawthorn vets, in Horsham, for advice on protecting their pet against parasites inside and out. *The top reasons for dog ownership across the regions were: South West, East Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland: to keep active. This was also the top reason nationally. South East, West Midlands, East of England, the North East, North West and Wales: the love dogs feel for their owners regardless of how much they earn, or how they look. London: a dog’s ability to understand human feelings and give comfort. More information about pet parasites is also available from the Pet Parasite Action website: www.petparasiteaction.co.uk. HOLA! Collyer’s students welcome Spanish Visitors

Collyer’s and Horsham were recently delighted to welcome a group of 12 Spanish students and 2 teachers, who were visiting the Ofsted Outstanding college of as part of a student exchange programme. The students attend top Spanish school, Instituto Cristobal Lozano, in Hellin, close to Alicante on the east coast of Spain. The group started its week in the UK with a visit to Hampton Court, where they visited the main historical monuments, including Henry VIII’s apartments, Christopher Wren’s amazing architecture and the lovely gardens by the river Thames. The group also journeyed to Brighton’s Royal Pavilion and Greenwich historical naval monuments, and took time out to visit to the Observatory in the park where they enjoyed great views of the O2, Canary Wharf and the river Thames. Irene Fernandez, accompanying teacher for the Spanish students, said: “Collyer’s is a famous sixth form college and the trip was a lovely chance to see the beautiful campus.” In addition to trips and visits, the students also spent valuable time attending lessons with her English hosts in a variety of subjects and took part

in some busy and entertaining classroom workshops, with a particular focus on language and culture. Irene added: “This fabulous experience provides a better understanding of customs, history and culture, so it is a good way to elaborate a modern European citizenship.” Margarita Mortimer, Head of Spanish at Collyer’s, was ecstatic: “We are always pleased to welcome our Spanish exchange students, because it’s such a good experience to encourage mutual understanding and respect to each other’s cultures” Collyer’s Deputy Principal, Steve Nicholls, said: “The exchange is an incredibly important part of learning about language and culture, for the Collyer’s and Instituto Cristobal Lozano students, and I’m very happy that everyone has thoroughly enjoyed the visit. It has been a pleasure to welcome our visitors. They are an absolute credit to their school, Hellin and Spain!” Collyer’s Assistant Principal, Melanie Russell said: “This is a great learning opportunity, Massive thanks to Margarita and all of the teachers for making this wonderful experience possible for all of these talented young linguists!”

Horsham Volvo owners help Volvo win two Auto Trader New Car Awards The all-new Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid

Supported by local Horshambased customers, Volvo Car UK triumphed twice at last week’s inaugural Auto Trader New Car Awards, being awarded ‘Green car of the year’ for the XC90 T8 Twin Engine and ‘Car brand with best features’ for the company as a whole. Also popular among Horsham residents, the firm’s V40 premium hatchback made the final three for the overall ‘New car of the year’ title. An awards ceremony with a difference, Auto Trader’s New Car Awards are mainly based not on editorial decision-making, but on a huge amount of data collected from real-life buyers of new cars, including those in Horsham. Richard Law, at Doves Horsham, commented: “Because these awards take into account owners’ experiences, including those from

our customers in the local area, it really shows that Volvo’s latest cars are striking a chord with buyers.” The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine couples a 320 hp petrol engine with an 87 hp electric motor to produce a combined 407 hp, while delivering CO2 emissions of just 49 g/km. Capable of travelling up to 27 miles on battery power alone in Pure mode, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine also has an incredibly competitive BIK rating of 9%, making it the ideal car for local commuters who regularly cover longer distances. The XC90 T8 Twin Engine’s title of ‘Green car of the year’ was awarded by virtue of the car having the highest rating in Auto Trader’s expert reviews of any car with CO2 emissions of 50 g/km or less. Meanwhile, the award for ‘Car brand with best features’, demon-

strates that Volvo’s commitment to making people’s lives safer and less complicated is winning over the public. New car owners were asked to rate the importance of certain features to them, such as navigation, smartphone integration and air conditioning. Overall, Volvo owners were the most satisfied with each of these features in their own cars – a particularly strong endorsement of the firm’s latest Sensus connectivity system, which is now compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Andy Pringle, Auto Trader’s Cars Editor, said: “The Auto Trader New Car Awards celebrate new cars on the market that are truly admired by those who matter most: their owners. Picking up awards for ‘Car brand with best features’ and ‘Green car of the year’, Volvo proves to be a car brand that strikes a chord with its owners, and both of these awards demonstrate how Volvo continues to future-proof this with innovative technology and desirable alternative-fuel models.” The V40’s shortlisting for the overall ‘New car of the year’ title – voted for by owners for the most satisfying new car to own in Horsham and across the UK – is a notable success for a car that has been on sale since 2012, yet still has a huge amount to offer as a new purchase. For more information on the Volvo range, please go to www. volvocars.com/uk or visit Doves Horsham at Guildford Road, Horsham.

What can lawyers do for you? Free Family Law Clinic in the Carfax It is widely recognised that one of the difficulties facing clients when encountering matrimonial problems is to know who to talk to. The ideal is to be able to take free legal advice without commitment which allows you the allimportant time to reflect on the big decisions that may lie ahead. RB Solicitors are therefore running a free Family Law Clinic at their offices in the Carfax. But just what is covered in a Family Law Clinic? Well here’s some of the potential issues:1.Divorce Let’s be clear - it is not the job for a lawyer to tell anyone whether or not they should divorce. Only an individual can make their mind up on whether their marriage has irretrievably broken down. NotwithstandingLeaving that aside, a lawyer can advise you on the process and on how to make it as straight forward as possible. Although the law is very old fashioned and still involves an element of blame, there are ways of adopting the right tone. This is essential when it comes to reaching a negotiated settlement without any of the rancour or hostility that a divorce can sometimes create. The old adage that ‘it is not what you do, it is the way

Business

got a story? email us at newsdesk@thedistrictpost.co.uk

that you do it’ certainly applies to divorce law. 2.What about the children? This is often the most important issue to most parents. Happily it is also the most important issue as far as the Courts and the lawyers are concerned. Indeed it is enshrined in the Children Act that the ‘welfare’ of the children will be the ‘first and paramount’ consideration. At some clinics the entire meeting will be given over to how to serve the children’s best interests in the eyes of the law. 3.Who gets what? This area of law has been in the headlines a lot over the last 18 months. Regrettably the media tend to seize on one single turn of phrase used by a Judge. This is then taken out of context to create a headline. Furthermore, there is an abundance of people with rather strong views on divorce law, which they are often willing to share. Such opinions are often misleading. The basic rule is that there is a ‘starting point of a yardstick of equality’. That does not mean that everything is split equally. What it means is that if you wish to persuade the Court to depart from the yardstick of equality, you may succeed if you can show good reason. Most common examples are the impact of children and the parties differing earning capacities.

However, substantive advice will be dependent upon what lawyers and Judges constantly refer to as ‘full and frank disclosure’ of the parties’ respective financial positions. Therefore, for practical purposes, the first meeting will address how needs can be met in the interim and for the duration of a divorce, as well as the likely final settlement. Be under no illusion, if financial support is necessary during a divorce, then the financially stronger party will be compelled to provide it. And how else can the Family Law Clinic help? Well, let’s be clear that not all Family Law is about the sad times. The Clinic also covers the happy occasion of marriage by providing advice on Pre-Nuptial Agreements. Similarly your queries concerning the legal implications of living together without being married can be covered. In short, if it is about Family Law, the Clinic is there to help you. The Family Law Clinic is run between 12.00 and 2.00p.m., on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. The Clinic is being run from the RB office in Horsham’s Carfax by our RB Team of Natalie Higham, Marwa Hadi, Nigel Winter and Robert Worthing. Please call 01403 252492 or drop in to make an appointment.

Artists are invited to submit audition pieces for Horsham town centre’s new street arts event to be held on Sunday 3 September 2017. Performers from a wide variety of art forms, not just music, are sought including drama, comedy, dance, mime, magic and anything else that would captivate an audience. The call is going out this week for performers and artists to submit links to their video or audio clips to be auditioned to become part of the town’s new event dedicated to street arts. The web address www.bigbuskhorsham. live will lead to a facebook page where a link to the entry form is hosted. Artists have until midnight on 24 July to submit their entries. Alternatively artists can also register directly here: https:// goo.gl/hNTV1L *

*Registrations will only be accepted if accompanied by a link to an online video or audio sample. This year, up to 16 artists will be selected to perform a number of short ‘sets’ moving between designated locations across the town with all performers getting to play the ‘main stage’ – Carfax’s Bandstand. Arrangements will be put in place for the public to vote for their favourites online through a YouTube playlist and at the event. Votes placed at the event will be weighted more highly, encouraging people to visit the town to view the performers live on the day. A Big Busk Horsham Trophy will be awarded to the winner. The Big Busk Horsham is looking to attract a variety of artists with half of the available slots being given over to non-music performers, subject to submissions. Performers for the Big Busk must be aged 16 and over. If there is sufficient interest from under 16 performers a separate Little Busk event is being considered which will take place on the Forum as part of the Little Nibble Children’s food festival on Saturday 2 September. Early discussions are underway that could mean a visual street arts component could also be added. The event is being organised by Horsham District Council along

If you ever wondered what Contemporary Dance is all about, but were too afraid to ask, then Chantry Dance Company are here to help! They are hosting a fun, FREE, and informative talk and dance demonstration, suitable for all, this Summer at The Capitol. Join Chantry Dance Company for a special presentation, ‘Contemporary Dance Demystified’, which shows how contemporary dance can be entertaining and accessible to everyone. This original and exciting event is a combined talk and dance demonstration from two of the UK’s top dancers

and choreographers, and is free to the public. Contemporary dance is often seen as something that can only be enjoyed by those with a dance background, but this presentation will explode that myth. It is delivered by Chantry Dance Company’s Artistic Directors, Paul Chantry & Rae Piper, who are known as the choreographers of popular stage shows, including David Walliams’s award-winning West End production of ‘GANGSTA GRANNY’, and the ‘HORRIBLE HISTORIES’ shows. Paul and Rae are highly experienced professional dancers, having performed at London’s Royal

Opera House, Sadler’s Wells and in the West End, who bring together all their expertise to offer you a fun and informative experience. ‘Contemporary Dance Demystified’ gives you the chance to find out where contemporary dance came from, how it evolved into what it is today, and how it can be enjoyed by everyone. The talk includes dance demonstrations to illustrate the differences between contemporary dance, classical ballet and modern theatre dance, videos and a Q&A with Rae and Paul. ‘Contemporary Dance Demystified’ is suitable for ages 7+, and is particularly good for schools, dance groups, and students studying dance GCSE, A-Level or degree – but most of all it is for anyone and everyone who wants to know more about dance! This is a completely FREE event, but you must pre-book a ticket to reserve your seat. ‘Contemporary Dance Demystified’ is at The Capitol, Horsham, on Wednesday 19 July, 7pm. There are fun times ahead for young people at The Hawth, this summer, with workshops for all ages, enabling children to meet new friends, learn new skills and perform at their local theatre. Sarah Slator, from The Hawth’s Youth Theatre, will lead two weeklong workshops and there are also shorter sessions, run by Sway Perform tutor Charlie Joseph, to help children improve their performance skills. The wonderful world of Dr Seuss will be brought to life when children between the ages of 6 and 10 are invited to learn, rehearse and perform between Monday 31 July and Friday 4 August, 10.30am3.30pm. From Cat in the Hat to The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham to Horton Hears a Who, children will delight in performing the wacky show to family and friends at the end of the week. Older young people will also get the chance to put together a play in a week between Monday 14 and Friday 18 August, 10.30am-3.30pm. The workshop will be aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 15, who will work towards putting on a production of Roald Dahl’s much loved tale of The Twits. The horrible Mr and Mrs Twit, a hideous, vindictive, spiteful couple, who live together in a brick house without windows, continuously play practical jokes on each other out of hatred for one another. But will they get what they deserve in the end? Audiences will find out at the end of the five days when the play is performed on Friday 18 August. There will also be a week of acting workshops called Acting Up, run by Sway Perform instructor Charlie, designed to develop acting and performance skills. The workshops will take place each day from Mon 7 - Fri 11 August. The work-

Small & exclusive development, in the centre of the little village of Cowfold This small, exclusive development, sits in the centre of the little village of Cowfold but within a few steps of an impressive array of nearby facilities. Each exceptional property will appeal to a number of different types of buyer and naturally boasts well designed kitchens with quality integrated appliances, beautiful bathrooms and wood floors amongst a list of many other features. Families will love the space on offer in Viscount House; as you might expect it offers a variety of period characteristics. These, however, have been cleverly and sympathetically married to the more contemporary features one comes to expect in a house that is suited to a modern lifestyle. Each of the new properties has a striking half weatherboarded front as well as differing design styles and features. The Stables is built in an L shape that surrounds its courtyard garden. It will certainly suit a small family but could well be of interest to the down-sizer keen to retain good room size in a smaller property with the benefit of an integral garage. Huntscroft, on the other hand, is designed with a slightly more conventional layout in mind and comes with the benefit of a kitchen/dining area opening on

to a terrace as well as a garden to the rear. A superb opportunity then to

buy a beautifully designed house in the centre of this attractive and conveniently located West Sussex village.

Call Cubitt & West, Horsham on 01403 269268 for more information about this unique develop-

ment.

Atlantis crowned Sussex League champions Horsham joggers Round up

Atlantis swimming club have been crowned Sussex league Champions for the first time in their history concluding this years competition undefeated in the top division in Sussex. Both Atlantis A and B teams were victorious in the final round of this years competition. The B team consolidated their position in division 2 with a solid home victory against Lewis A and 1066 A. They were overall winners on the night scoring a superb 416 points placing them a commendable 4th place in division 2 in their first year of competition. The Atlantis A Team went in to the final undefeated, however it was going to be a tough proposition as Atlantis were swimming against the top seeded teams in Sussex, Mid Sussex Marlins and local rivals Crawley. The swimmers ranged in age from under 12 age category to open age group

swimmers. If Atlantis stood any chance of being crowned Sussex Champions it was going to have to be a mighty team effort, every point would count, focus and determination were needed. After the first ten event Atlantis were in an unfamiliar position, not at the top of the leaderboard. All of the swimmers knew exactly what was required from them,THEIR BEST!! The completion progressed with Atlantis showing some of their best swims this season and by the halfway point they nudged themselves into the lead. That was all that was needed, and united encouragement from coaching staff and supporters, win followed win and by the penultimate event Atlantis had an unasailable lead. Going into event 57, the 8 x 50m squadron relay, Atlantis had already secured enoughpoints to win the completion, but that

didn’t stop them achieving first place with a comfortable squadron win six seconds ahead of second place team. The Atlantis team were elated scoring 384 points, nearly 50 points ahead of the second place team, Crawley, undefeated throughout the season, accumulating a massive 1240 points and finally being crowed Sussex League Swimming Champions for the first time! Head coach Andy Lobley added, “I think it has to be said that last night was truly inspiring as a coach. Fielding two teams for the first time in Sussex League was a major step forward for the club. For BOTH teams to win their gala’s on the final round was awesome. The results from both gala’s represented a fantastic effort from everyone involved. It is easy at open meets for people to get fixated on times but it is brilliant fun to go to a gala where times mean nothing at all. It is about results and points and that is all that matters. Stood at the end of the lane and watching swimmers race to touch first or fifth is golden to me. The victories last night were a team effort and we should all, when you see them thank everyone who helped run the gala’s, worked poolside and cheered from the stands. Atlantis gala team are now famous in Sussex for organising brilliant events and the emails going around sorting out who run’s the electronics, who officiates, who does the drinks is really amazing and I thank from the bottom of my heart every volunteer who helps out.

The Heavens Opened on Ladies Day at Pulborough BC!

Bowling Jane gray - Pulborough BC After the recent glorious weather, hopes were high for a dry day for the Annual Pulborough Ladies Open Triples event on Tues 27th June. 11 triples played, including 2 from the home team, Storrington, East Preston, Grafham, Fittleworth, Billingshurst, Arundel and Steyning - a fantastic turnout! Play started promptly at 2pm, after a short intro from Club President, Malcolm Gray and Official Umpire, Ian Phillips from Fittleworth. 5 sessions of 4 ends were planned, but after the 1st, the heavens opened and set the scene for the

day! Despite the clouds overhead, spirits remained high and the skill on the green, with slippery bowls and wet-weather gear, was something to behold! A planned break after the 3rd session called for a meeting of skips, resulting in an early finish, some warm cups of tea and an excuse to dry off before supper! The final result was based on the best games from each team, with Grafham coming second, with a shot difference of +7 and Billingshurst winning the top prize of £120, (kindly donated by Comyn and James Estate Agents) and the shield, with a score of +10 shots. A generous buffet and raffle followed, with the prize giving out on the green being hurried by the rain! Fantastic banter and positive feedback means that the event will take place at the same time next year, hopefully under sunny skies! An away game at Chichester on Friday evening proved quite a challenge for Pulborough, firstly competing against the traffic coming out of the festival of speed at Goodwood and secondly adjusting to a fast green and tough opposition. Chichester came away with the win, with top rink for Pulborough going to skip. Alan Jordan, with Jane Gray as lead and Mick Ayling as number 2. The final game of the week, due to a cancellation by Southwater,

was a home game on Saturday in the West Sussex Bowls League, against Worthing Pavilion, who took full points away from both games facing Pulborough the previous year! The Captain’s rink of Paul Day, Adey Stratton, Mick Ralph and Steve Adsett, had a tough start, only pulling level on end 7, but some heavy scoring ensured that they stayed ahead to finish 21/18 by end 21. Ivan Salmon and team had a tight game throughout, finishing just 2 shots ahead 18/16. Top rink and the overall win on points for the team can be attributed to the stonking game produced by skip Alan Jordan, supported by Melvin Green, Paul Smith and Malcolm Gray, who kept pulling further ahead, finally stretching their lead to 27/11 after winning 13 of the 21 ends! The final result was 8 points from a possible 10 for Pulborough and 76/67 on the scoreboards - an amazing result compared to last year! 4 games next week comprise of 2 friendlies against Norfolk and Billingshurst on Weds and Thurs evenings from 6pm, a WSBL away fixture against the Witterings on Sat from 2pm and The Stratton Cup at home on Sunday from 2pm, spectators always welcome, just walk in!

Horsham celebrates cycling for women Cycling A group of cyclists, in partnership with Cycling UK and the Horsham Festival organisers, is championing women’s cycling this July, as a new campaign, the Women’s Festival of Cycling, takes to the saddle. The Horsham group is organising the Shelley Bike Ride on the first day of the Horsham Festival, July 8, aimed at encouraging more women to take part in the healthy, fun and enjoyable activity of cycling and, at the same time, spreading the word about the poet Shelley’s happy childhood in and around Horsham. By inspiring more women to cycle, national cycling charity Cycling UK aims to improve not only their mental and physical wellbeing, but also provide more opportunities for them to experience the friendship, fun and sense of freedom that cycling can bring. There are several barriers that inhibit many women from trying out or continuing cycling, such as a fear of riding on roads due to perceived dangers, a lack of confidence in riding ability, psychological and physical health issues that affect a large proportion of women, including depression, anxiety, arthritis and osteoporosis, and female conditions such as pregnancy, menstruation and menopause. Thea Bredie-Turnbull from the Horsham group said: “We are pleased to be supporting Cy-

cling UK’s Women’s Festival of Cycling this year, as we recognise the importance of encouraging more women to take up cycling. We recognise that some women prefer women-specific opportunities and welcome new Cycling UK members, whether they have cycled before or are new to the saddle.” And if getting out on your bike in (hopefully!) glorious weather wasn’t enough of an incentive, there are some great goodie bags to be had for the first 10 participants who register for each ride or event!* Julie Rand, Women’s Festival of Cycling Coordinator, explained: “We have identified that, by putting on female-friendly activities, many more women will have the opportunity to enjoy cycling as a fun, healthy and useful activity.” Throughout July, the Women’s Festival of Cycling consists of a series of rides and events, taking place across the UK, for women of all ages and abilities. From an offroad ride in Aviemore, Scotland, to 100-mile road rides in England and Wales, to a 12-mile pootle for coffee and cake in Cornwall, plus female-friendly bike maintenance sessions in Southampton and Manchester, and much more - There will be something for everyone. Winning Lions breakfast with Slinfold Ladies Club Rob Andrew - and hope for Championship 2017 return of the Cricket Festival

Martin Read - Sports Reporter

Rugby fans from far and wide had a rare treat at Horsham Cricket Club last Saturday morning – a most interesting preview of the second Lions test v New Zealand in Wellington by former Lions legend Rob Andrew, when he assured everyone that the Lions could win, saying: “We lost the first test, so this is a massive game, but we have hope and belief and victory is possible if we make good micro decisions on the pitch. We scrambled through the first test, giving them too much respect. That was disappointing and we can’t do that and win – the All Blacks had too much possession. They are tough, they are outstanding, but we can beat

them if we’re accurate - not easy in the torrential rain. We need to put them under pressure.” The game was shown live on the big screen, during which excellent full English breakfasts - produced by Jenny Wise and volunteers, including the club office ladies – were eagerly consumed. Rob gave a half time assessment, when, undeterred by the All Blacks’ intimidating Haka, the Lions were holding them 9-9. Before answering questions from the floor, Rob said: “Make no mistake about it the second half will be the biggest 40 minutes of these players’ lives and they don’t play much together, so they need to be adaptable.” The Lions frustratingly conceded five penalties in quick succession, but

fortunately the All Black kicking was off target and then, just as a Horsham supporters’ flag appeared on screen, the Lions ran in the first of their two tries, the only two of the game, to win 21-24. At full time, Rob Andrew gave his assessment of the game, quipping: “The last time the Lions won there I was playing – at the old Wellington ground!” He then handed out raffle prizes and chatted to members of the audience, before, in his role of CEO of Sussex Cricket, telling the District Post, when asked about the possibility of the Sussex Cricket Festival returning to Horsham: “I’d love us to come back – I’m in communication with Horsham Cricket Club and we’d love to do it.” Horsham Cricket Captain, Michael Thornely, an ex Sussex player said how good it was to see Sussex at the ground for Chris Nash’s testimonial and emphasised the quality of the wicket. Rob Andrew agreed, saying that he is continuing to enjoy cricket himself, playing for Sussex at Over 50 level. Jon Filby, Chair of the Sussex Cricket Foundation told us: “This has been a great event and we’ve raised £1,500 for the foundation today.” While Horsham Cricket & Sports Club’s Shaka Shambrook added: “An excellent morning, providing another opportunity for the club to demonstrate the adaptability and friendliness right across a range of sports, showcasing our flexibility.”

SportsAid funding for Farlington student

Farlington Sports Scholar, Gabriella Eltham, has been awarded SportsAid support to help her in her quest to become a medal winner. Gabriella,16, who is part of the GB Modern Pentathlon Talent programme, was encouraged to write a CV and reasons why SportsAid would be valuable to her. Having completed this, GB Modern Pentathlon selected her for nomination as a worthy potential recipient for an award.

From the many submitted applications, Prudential plc, through their Outreach programme, elected to support her. This is prestigious and encouraging recognition for all of her hard work, achievements and also the support of those around her. SportsAid is a national charity dedicated to helping talented athletes achieve their ambitions. All the money distributed is through donations. It helps young, unfunded athletes to overcome

one of their greatest barriers to success - the financial challenge of trying to become Britain’s next generation of Olympians, Paralympians and world champions. Prior recipients have included Sir Chris Hoy, David Weir, Dame Sarah Storey, Ellie Simmonds, Sir Bradley Wiggins and two of Gaby’s favourites - Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis-Hill. Gabriella is training to compete in the modern pentathlon, which comprises five diverse sports: swimming, fencing, riding, running and laser target shooting. Each discipline is held separately, apart from the running and shooting, which are held together in a challenging combined event. Sara Whittaker, Director of PE and Games at Farlington School, said: “Gabriella is a fantastic athlete with a great attitude and lots of potential. To be selected to receive this funding is testament to all Gaby’s hard work and training. “We are very proud of her at Farlington. As a Sports and Academic Scholar, she is a great role model to the other students. I’m sure she will make the most of this opportunity.”

Roffey go top after sending Nomads a-wandering Saturday July 1 - Sussex Premier League Preston Nomads 144 all out (48 overs) Roffey 145-3 (28 overs) Roffey won by 7 wickets – Roffey 30 points – Preston Nomads 3 Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter

Preston Nomads have been the powerhouse of the Sussex Premier League, with, until Roffey’s dominance, six titles in eight years and Roffey were unable to overcome them last year. But, last Saturday it was soon obvious that there would only be one winner. Put in, Nomads were soon 14-2, Leigh Harrison dismissing both openers, his impressive marathon bowl from the top end earning a richly deserved 5-38, including 82 dot balls. Onlookers, though, might have thought that they were watching a T20 match, early sixes wrongly suggesting that aggression was the best strategy. Roffey are adept at containing batsmen and snared six catches as a succession of batsmen went for their shots with mid on and cover fielders always in the game. George Fleming delivered a characteristically

steady spell, taking 3-55, while Rohit Jagota took a miserly 2-9, despite struggling with a hip injury. Scores some way in excess of 200 are usually required for a win at Roffey and a target of 145 was never likely to be enough, Roffey cruising to victory thanks to 45 from Jagota and unbeaten 30s from Jibran Khan and Captain Matt Davies, two overs of whacking finishing off the game just after 5pm. Davies told the District Post: “An easy win for us. They were a bit arrogant trying to keep hitting us out of the ground – as was proved, things can go wrong with that approach.” After being praised by his Captain for his exceptional contribution, Leigh Harrison said: “I don’t normally bowl so many overs, but the ball was coming out nicely so I carried on and we kept taking wickets while they persisted in attacking. My back is in pieces now!” Roffey now head the table with 225 points – one more than East Grinstead. Tomorrow (Saturday) Roffey are at home again, against relegation candidates Bexhill. Roffey bowled them out for 146 at the Polegrove in May, winning by 4 wickets and in 2016 dismissed them for 148 at home and 143 away.

Horsham third after fourth consecutive win Saturday July 1 - Sussex Premier League Horsham 196-8 (58 overs) - Ansty 120 all out (33.5 overs) Horsham won by 76 runs – Horsham 30 points, Ansty 7 Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Prior to this game Ansty had endured eight straight defeats, whereas Horsham had just had a confidence boosting win against high flying East Grinstead. And, perhaps fearing the worst after some disappointing batting displays, Ansty put Horsham in. The wicket had been wet following heavy midweek rain and the ball was spitting off a length with prodigious movement, so this was never going to be a high scoring game. Horsham, though, provided a good platform, getting to 94-2 after a promising opening partnership, wicketkeeper Ryan Maskell making 51, the highest score of the game. However, Ansty’s bowling on their testing pitch has proved much better than their batting and they plugged away, reducing Horsham to 134-7, causing some concern. But, Sam Bell (28 not out) and David Croshaw (26) formed a cru-

cial 51 run partnership, allowing Horsham to set a 197 run target, which the hosts had only bettered once at home this season. Replying, Ansty’s batting frailty was soon apparent when Mika Ekstrom (3-15) and Jonny Whiting, who finished with 2-26, reduced them to 27-5. Jake Wilson subsequently struck 6 fours and 2 sixes in an unbeaten 48 but Michael Munday (3-36) and Nick Oxley (238) made short work of the tail for a comprehensive Horsham win, Munday saying: “When we saw how the wicket was playing – it was turning sideways with variable bounce - we targeted something over 150, so we were well satisfied to get almost 200.” Mika Ekstrom added: “Sam and David demonstrated some mature batting, playing low risk cricket and when a bad ball came along they put it away – then we bowled well. It was as simple as that really.” Tomorrow, Saturday Horsham are on the road again with an away fixture against Cuckfield, who dropped from top to fourth after their crushing defeat at East Grinstead last Saturday. Horsham beat Cuckfield by 60 runs in a 50 over game in the second week of the season and eliminated them from the Sussex Cup last Sunday.

Manenti launches Roffey into Sussex Cup semi final Sunday July 2 - Sussex GrayNicholls T20 Cup – Quarter Final East Grinstead 133-5 (20 overs) – Roffey 138-3 (18.2 overs) Roffey won by 7 wickets Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Roffey inserted East Grinstead, a Rohit Jagota run out quickly reducing them to 6-1. Former Sussex player Fynn HudsonPrentice made 24 and Ian Sturmer 20, but East Grinstead’s batting honours went to skipper Will Adkin with an unbeaten 53, the hosts recovering from 45-4 to post an intermediate 134 run target. Luke Barnard took 2-25, Alex Collins 1-15 and Aussie overseas player Ben Manenti 1-18. Manenti and Matt Davies then put on 78 for Roffey’s first wicket, before Davies’s departure for 33 introduced Jagota, whose 21 augmented Manenti’s outstanding unbeaten 73, securing Roffey’s victory with almost two overs to spare, East Grinstead’s seven bowlers being unable to dent the visitors’ aspiration. Roffey skipper Matt Davies told the District Post: “That was a good win – playing East Grinstead is never easy, especially at their ground, so we expected it to be tough, but we back ourselves. Collo (Alex Collins) bowled well at the start with Rohit and we kept them to 30 or 40 below par, then

our opening stand paved the way for us.” At the previous day’s league match Manenti expressed disappointment at not having scored more runs this season, but, putting that right with a vengeance, he commented: “It was nice to hit a few out of the middle of the bat. A big win for us and great to put one over East Grinstead – T20 is probably my best format.” Those witnessing his blistering 16 ball 41 against Billingshurst in Round 2 will not disagree. Although Roffey had naturally hoped for a home semi final draw, being pitched against Horsham at Cricketfield Road on Sunday July 23 sets up a classic duel. They seemed destined to meet in last year’s final – which Horsham won – until Roffey came a cropper against Middleton in the semi. Roffey are yet to appear in a Sussex Cup Final, Coach Simon Fearnley saying: “A final at Hove with Horsham would have been great for the town’s cricket, but it’ll be a lovely day in the semi. There’s a high desire level at Roffey – the players like challenges, individually and collectively and Horsham are a strong batting side in the T20, we respect them for that. The semi final will be a proper challenge for us!” In the other semi final Preston Nomads travel to Hastings.

Sunday July 2 - Sussex GrayNicholls T20 Cup – Quarter Final Cuckfield 129-5 (20 overs) Horsham 132-1 (18.3 overs) Horsham won by 9 wickets Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter

In the previous 35 seasons Horsham have won the Sussex Cup a record 13 times and after last year’s win in the final at Hove they are determined to hang onto the silverware – as demonstrated by a strong all-round win against Cuckfield last Sunday, setting up a mouth-watering home semi final

versus Roffey on Sunday July 23. Horsham inserted Cuckfield, who were without their New Zealand test opener Jeet Raval (injured knee) and former Horsham player Joe Ludlow (playing minor county cricket), but wicketkeeper Bradley Gayler’s 44 ball 65 suggested a demanding target. Yet, although there were some useful contributions no other batsman could inflict sufficient damage to enable the visitors to post more than a moderate 130 run target. Michael Munday was the most productive bowler with 2-14, the other wickets being shared by Mika Ekstrom, Tom Haines – recovering from Hurstpierpoint A levels – and PJ Williams. In reply, Craig Gallagher, batting with vintage freedom, and Ryan Maskell took 33 from the first three overs and soon posted a 48 run opening partnership, Maskell’s dismissal being Cuckfield’s sole success. Just when Gallagher looked unstoppable he stumbled and fell with a foot injury pursuing a run in the 18th over, forcing him to retire hurt on 54. Then, Captain Michael Thornely took command, going into overdrive, his unbeaten 44 sealing Horsham’s win with nine balls left and more than useful batting still in the tank. The weekend’s contrasting fortunes of the combatants could not have been more marked – two good wins for Horsham but a humiliating league defeat for league leaders Cuckfield – knocked off their perch after being bowled out for 59 by East Grinstead – and then unceremoniously dumped out of the cup at Cricketfield Road. Cuckfield Coach, former Sussex and Surrey spinner Chris Waller, said: “We have no excuses about missing players, we came here to win and don’t like losing, so we need to re-group quickly.”

Enthralling county cricket comes to Billingshurst

Cricket Martin Read - Sports Reporter Billingshurst Cricket Club were delighted to welcome Sussex Ladies to play their counterparts

from Kent and Surrey, either side of a game between the visiting counties, in the three match T20 day last Sunday. Billingshurst supremo Jim Burroughs told the District Post: “It was an excellent day: we had

a barbecue going throughout and had other refreshments and drinks available at the bar. It was good to see Sussex Cricket CEO Rob Andrews with the team and former Captain Chris Adams, too, enjoying watching his daughter Georgia batting so beautifully for Sussex in their winning match against Surrey. The ladies told us that they will insist on returning next year and we’re all looking forward to that already!” Defending champions Kent won their low-scoring game against Sussex, with just a ball to spare. Then Surrey beat Kent with overs in the tank after bowling them out cheaply ahead of the final game in which Georgia Adams starred against Surrey. Georgia Adams, recently appointed Sussex skipper, said: “It was a big day against two of our biggest rivals – a great day at Billingshurst Cricket Club. They are great hosts and there was some exciting cricket, a top effort from Sussex once again!” Billingshurst supporter Andy West summed up saying: “It certainly was a great day with each team winning one game apiece. And we were very pleased to see Rob Andrew at the ground.”
